Houston Nurses Protest After Losing Their Jobs For Refusing COVID-19 Shots

More than a hundred hospital employees and supporters gathered in protest of the firing of employees who reject COVID-19 shots.

Houston – On Monday afternoon, employees of the Houston Methodist hospital system were joined by supporters from around the Houston area as they were suspended without pay for saying no to COVID-19 injections. The employees are now suing Houston Methodist in an effort to fight against COVID19 mandates.

The Houston Methodist hospital operates eight hospitals with more than 26,000 employees. On March 31, Methodist CEO Dr. Marc Boom announced that the shots – which have not received approval by the US Food and Drug Administration – would be mandatory for all employees. Houston Methodist hospital employees were told to take the shots by June 7th or lose their jobs. Methodist also required hospital managers to have at least one COVID shot by April 15th. Those who chose not to receive the treatments by Monday now have 2 final weeks before they will officially be fired.

“Mandating the vaccine was not a decision we made lightly. … Because science has proven that the Covid-19 vaccines are not only safe, but extremely effective, it became an easier decision to make,” Boom wrote in a letter to staff in April.

Despite reassurances from Boom, 117 employees filed suit against Houston Methodist for “forcing its employees to be human ‘guinea pigs’ as a condition for continued employment” by requiring an experimental treatment which has only been authorized for emergency use.

Jennifer Bridges is one of the nurses leading the charge. In recent months she has become the public face of the hospital employees’ fight against mandates they see as unconstitutional. On Monday evening, Bridges walked out of the Baytown Methodist hospital to a crowd of cheering supporters. “I am sad, I am happy, I am proud,” Jennifer said as she exited the parking lot for the final time.

Bridges stated that the hospital attempted to “bribe” employees with cash and required those receiving the injection to sign a waiver stating they would not hold Methodist hospital liable if they were to experience an adverse reaction. She says that nurses who treated COVID-19 patients in 2020 are now treating patients who have had reactions to the shots.

“We’ve already had nurses who took the vaccine – whether they wanted to or were forced – and so many have come down with adverse reactions. I’ve already heard from nurses who have had miscarriages,” Bridges stated during an interview with Free Thinker Radio.

The NIH claims joint ownership of Moderna's coronavirus vaccine

The National Institutes of Health may own intellectual property that undergirds a leading coronavirus vaccine being developed by Moderna, according to documents obtained by Axios and an analysis from Public Citizen.

Why it matters:

Because the federal government has an actual stake in this vaccine, it could try to make the vaccine a free or low-cost public good with wide distribution, if the product turns out to be safe and effective.

OR it could try to say it's safe when it's not

The big picture:

The NIH mostly funds outside research, but it also often invents basic scientific technologies that are later licensed out and incorporated into drugs that are sold at massive profits. The agency rarely claims ownership stakes or pursues patent rights, but that appears to be different with this coronavirus vaccine.

"We do have some particular stake in the intellectual property" behind Moderna's coronavirus vaccine, NIH Director Francis Collins said during an Economic Club interview in May.

Driving the news: New evidence shines light on the extent of NIH's involvement.

NIH and Moderna have researched coronaviruses, like MERS, for several years, and signed a contract this past December that stated "mRNA coronavirus vaccine candidates [are] developed and jointly owned" by the two parties. The contract was not specific to the novel coronavirus, and it was signed before the new virus had been sequenced.

Separately, four NIH scientists have filed for a provisional patent application entitled "2019-nCoV vaccine," according to disclosures in a pending scientific paper. Moderna scientists co-authored that paper, but none are listed as vaccine co-inventors.

That makes it clear "the government and the public have a stake" in the coronavirus vaccine, said Zain Rizvi, a health law and policy researcher at Public Citizen. "The vaccine would not exist without the intellectual contributions of federal scientists."

What they're saying: NIH said in a statement that its scientists created the "stabilized coronavirus spike proteins for the development of vaccines against coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2," andthe government consequently has "sought patents to preserve the government's rights to these inventions."

Antrim County Attorney DePerno Releases BOMBSHELL Report – Claims County Voting Machines Were Remotely Logged into – Decertifies Entire Antrim Election

Michigan Attorney Matthew DePerno released new information from his investigation into the Antrim County 2020 election.

In May DePerno broke the news that the Antrim County tabulator machines can be reopened after the election. The machines can then run more ballots through the tabulator, print off a new tabulator tape with new ballots, and then backdate that tape to November 3rd.

On Tuesday Matt DePerno dropped another bomb that he says should disqualify the 2020 Antrim County election.

According to DePerno the Dominion Voting Machines were accessed from the outside and remotely logged into after the election.

DePerno contends this should decertify the county’s election results.

And Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson should resign or be removed from office after alleging remote access was not possible with the Michigan machines.

Cicadas overrun White House press plane, delay flight for 7 hours

A plane full of journalists traveling to cover President Joe Biden’s first overseas trip was delayed for several hours overnight after Brood X cicadas invaded the exterior of the plane. According to CNN and the Associated Press, the plane was scheduled to leave late Tuesday, but officials at Dulles International Airport had to find another plane after the cicadas swarmed the original.

The AP reports it is unclear exactly what issues were caused by the bugs and issues with the weather and crew rest helped lead to the lengthy delay. The flight was scheduled to leave around 9 p.m. Tuesday, but didn’t actually depart until approximately 4 a.m. Wednesday.

After shutting down the press plane, the cicadas also took a run at Biden as he arrived at Joint Base Andrews Wednesday for his own flight. As he was speaking with his Air Force greeter one of the bugs jumped on his neck, before he batted it away.

“Watch out for the cicadas,” Biden joked with reporters. “I just got one. It just got me.”

The chartered press plane is arranged in coordination with the White House but the journalists pay for their own flights. The journalists are headed to the United Kingdom to cover Biden’s trip, but the flight delay is not expected to impact coverage of those events.

Nearly 8 years have passed since Michael Lewis published "Flash Boys" (highly rec'd but dry read), raising awareness of the relatively new practice of high-frequency trading and its transformative impact on markets, allowing the most technologically-advanced traders to effectively see a picture of the market that's nanoseconds ahead of what their non-NFT peers see, giving them a massive advantage.

Now, the SEC is finally considering changing the rules of how stocks are priced and traded to stop exchanges from incentivizing brokers (nowadays, particularly retail trading brokerages that have seen an explosion of activity in the past couple of years).

The news has slammed shares of HFT market-makers including those of Virtu, the biggest electronic market-maker. Virtu Financial, Inc. (VIRT)29.17-2.29 (-7.28%)

A few months ago, after Robinhood and its rivals cut off trading in Gamestop, prompting the stock to crater (as thousands of furious GME bulls claimed), we explained how Robinhood receives payment from Citadel and a handful of other major HFT market makers allowing them to front-run retail order flow and guarantee profits. In fact, one could argue that this relationship makes Robinhood a de facto subsidiary of Citadel. The surge in meme stocks has benefited Robinhood by helping it pocket millions more from selling orderflow to Citadel, Virtu, Two Sigma, Wolverine and other HFT frontrunning "market-making" venues, as well as Citadel which made billions by having an advance look at the biggest surge in retail stock and option orders flow in history, and being able to trade ahead of and around it.

In 2014, SEC Commission Chairman Mary Jo White unveiled a sweeping set of initiatives Thursday to address mounting concerns about the impact of computer-driven trading on the stock market, including proposals that would extend oversight of high-frequency traders and dark pools. Little came of this, and the efforts were shelved during the Trump Administration, until today, when Biden's SEC chairman Gary Gensler revealed that the agency is planning to propose new rules during an industry conference on Wednesday. During his talk, Gensler offered a broader explanation of market structure than he had previously described. Soros-Backed Group Plans ‘Third Reconstruction’ Push

Group sets sights on Manchin in effort to abolish ICE, advance reparations and single-payer health care

A left-wing advocacy group funded by George Soros and backed by 30 House Democrats is planning a yearlong campaign for a "Third Reconstruction" that includes abolishing ICE, expanding welfare for illegal immigrants, and removing criminal penalties for violent protesters.

The Poor People’s Campaign, which received a grant from the Soros-backed Open Society Foundations following the death of George Floyd as part of the organization’s $220 million "anti-racist" initiative, held a Day of Action on Monday to kick off its crusade. The group counts Democratic Reps. Cori Bush (D., Mo.), Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.), and Jamie Raskin (D., Md.) as top supporters, with the "Third Reconstruction" described to the Washington Free Beacon by a senior GOP Senate aide as the "next Green New Deal."

Neither the Poor People's Campaign nor the Open Society Foundations returned requests for comment.

In a release announcing the grant, which reached the Poor People's Campaign through one of its "anchor organizations," the Open Society Foundations touted groups "fighting for an end to policing as we know it." Alex Soros, deputy chair of the Open Society Foundations, added, "This is the time for urgent and bold action to address racial injustice in America."

The "Third Reconstruction" includes a laundry list of far-left demands such as automatic voter registration, a single-payer health care system, a reparations commission, and "relief from student debt, housing debt, utilities debt, medical debt, and other household and personal debt that cannot be paid." Despite proposing that the dozen-plus programs, estimated to cost well into the trillions of dollars, be financed "using deficit spending," the "Third Reconstruction" calls for a 10 percent cut to the military budget.

"With this resolution, we (1) acknowledge the deep harms we have suffered from systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation and the denial of health care, militarism and the false narrative of white supremacist nationalist extremism and (2) commit to heal and transform the nation by addressing these interlocking injustices, beginning with those most impacted, with moral and just laws and policies," the Poor People’s Campaign wrote on Facebook.

As part of their strategy to pressure Democrats into supporting the initiative, the Poor People’s Campaign will hold a march on Washington, D.C., in June 2022. In 2018, the group organized "40 Days of Action," which resulted in thousands of arrests. Protesters in dozens of states held sit-ins at government offices and blocked roads while demanding local legislators pass hikes to the minimum wage and expand welfare benefits.

On Monday, the group announced a protest against Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) over his decision not to support H.R. 1, a bill that radically overhauls how the nation conducts elections.

"They said it's time to march on his office," Poor People’s Campaign co-chair Rev. William Barber said. "It’s time for people of all differences to stand together against him—we call it ‘from the hollers in the mountains to the hood.'"

Manchin previously met with the group to discuss a federal $15 minimum wage, although he later opposed the proposal. Democrats, including Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D., Wash.) and Barbara Lee (D., Calif.), claim the "Third Reconstruction" will "end poverty" and address the country’s income disparities allegedly caused by systemic racism. The language used by supporters of the "Third Reconstruction" follows much of the post-Civil War-era rhetoric from Democrats that has defined the early days of the Biden administration. The president’s recent failure to pass H.R. 1 came after his impassioned appeal to racial violence 100 years ago as evidence the country needs new voting rights today.

"For much too long, the history of what took place here was told in silence, cloaked in darkness. But just because history is silent, it doesn’t mean that it did not take place," President Joe Biden said on June 1, which marked the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa race massacre. "And while darkness can hide much, it can never erase what happened. That’s why we’re here: to shine a light, to make sure America knows the story in full."

Other Democrats, including Rep. Mondaire Jones of New York, who supports the "Third Reconstruction," called Manchin’s opposition to the bill an effort to "preserve Jim Crow." Biden himself has referred to GOP-led efforts to stop voter fraud as "Jim Crow in the 21st century."

Manchin did not respond to a request for comment.

Mexico's president taps finance minister to head central bank

Mexico's President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Wednesday that he will propose finance minister Arturo Herrera to replace Bank of Mexico chief Alejandro Diaz de Leon when his term at the central bank expires at the end of 2021.

Economist Rogelio Ramirez de la O will be named to replace Herrera, Lopez Obrador said on Twitter, in what will make him the third finance minister the president has had since he took office at the end of 2018. Ramirez is a longstanding adviser to Lopez Obrador and was his pick for finance minister when he first ran for the presidency in 2006, an election he narrowly lost.

Herrera, a former World Bank executive, took on the job of finance minister in July 2019 after his predecessor abruptly quit, offering strong criticism over the direction of policy.
