Foreign Reporters to Be Tracked, ‘Managed’ by GPS at Tokyo Olympics

Foreign reporters covering the Tokyo Olympics will be tracked by GPS and their behavior “managed” by organizers, the event president said Tuesday, before adding passes could be “revoked” for any rule infractions.

Organizers say the unprecedented controls on what journalists can cover and where they can go are part of measures to reassure a sceptical Japanese public the mega-event can be held safely while coronavirus continues to ravage the country.

Some 6,000 reporters are expected to visit and cover the Tokyo Olympics, according to AFP, and they must account for their planned movement over their two weeks in Japan, from sports venues to local accommodation.

Tokyo 2020 chief Seiko Hashimoto said tracking technology would be used to make sure they only go where they are supposed to.

“To make sure that people don’t go to places other than the places where they are registered to go, we will use GPS to strictly manage their behaviour,” Hashimoto said before a Tokyo 2020 executive board meeting.

Reporters will be urged to stay in designated hotels rather than private lodgings, she added, while athletes will also face tight restrictions on their movements as well as being tested daily for the virus.

Overseas fans have already been banned from attending the event, and organisers will decide later this month how many domestic spectators — if any — can attend in person.

The tight restrictions come as the event struggles to capture the imagination of the host country, with many polls showing the Japanese people want it canceled altogether.

As Breitbart News reported, roughly 10,000 volunteers have also withdrawn their help over concerns surrounding the spread of the coronavirus.

Organizers said they “need 80,000” volunteers to properly run the games, but are “now short 10,000,” Japan’s public broadcaster, NHK, reported on June 2.

“The withdrawal of volunteers began in February after then organizing committee chairman Mori Yoshiro came under criticism for his remarks taken as derogatory to women,” NHK noted last Wednesday.

“Even after Mori resigned from the post to take responsibility for his remarks, more volunteers continued to withdraw, citing other factors such as fears of infection [from the Chinese coronavirus] or changes in their own working environment.”

FBI encrypted phone app leads to hundreds of global underworld arrests

Hundreds of criminal gang members around the world were tricked into using a phone encryption app operated by the FBI to plan their heinous crimes, leading to their arrests, according to authorities.

Law enforcement officers in Australia and New Zealand began to unveil the scope of what is known as Operation Trojan Shield late Monday.

Authorities in Europe were scheduled to make their own announcement early Tuesday, with the FBI’s San Diego field office doing the same at noon.

Antipodean authorities credited the scheme with the arrest of more than 250 individuals and the seizure of more than 100 illegal firearms and other weapons, as well as millions of dollars in cash, drugs and other assets.

In addition, Australian Federal Police (AFP) Commissioner Reece Kershaw told reporters that the app helped thwart 21 murder plots, including one that would have targeted a family of five.

Kershaw added that arrests were made in 18 countries, including the US. Other countries where police raids were executed included the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden.

Top Banker Quits Italy State Bank as Mario Draghi Revamps Leadership

Bank of America Corp. is hiring top investment banker Vito Lo Piccolo, who’ll leave Italy’s Cassa Depositi e Prestiti SpA just as the state-backed lender revamps its strategy under new leadership chosen by Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

Lo Piccolo, 46, will join BofA to strengthen its investment banking division, people with knowledge of the matter said. He will be named senior managing director with responsibility for Italian capital markets, the people said, asking to not be named because the process is private. The decision to leave the Italian lender was taken in April, according to some of the people.

The banker will be based in Milan and report to country head Antonino Mattarella. Representatives for BofA and Cassa Depositi declined to comment.

Over the last two years, Cassa Depositi has increased its influence over strategic sectors including telecommunications, transportation and exchange management. It expanded its stake in Telecom Italia SpA, engineered the sale of stock-exchange manager Borsa Italiana, and became the largest shareholder in digital payments giant Nexi SpA.

With 512 billion euros ($623 billion) in assets, Rome-based Cassa Depositi is bigger than most of Italy’s banks and has significant stakes in many of the country’s largest companies. Last month Draghi named Dario Scannapieco to run the state-backed lender, putting a long-time ally into one of Italy’s highest-profile corporate posts and paving the way for a significant policy shift at the firm.

Lo Piccolo started his career at Merrill Lynch in 1998 in London, where he worked with UniCredit CEO Andrea Orcel. He joined Cassa Depositi in 2019, having previously worked at Deutsche Bank AG and Citigroup Inc. The banker graduated from Bocconi University with a degree in Economics and Business Legislation.

He’ll replace Gianluca Iuliano, who left Bank of America in August to join Fininvest SpA, the family investment company of ex-Premier Silvio Berlusconi.

Guatemalan President Blames Biden for Border Crisis

Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei blamed President Joe Biden for the border crisis, saying that the change from Trump’s administration emboldened the human traffickers on the border, known as “coyotes.” He also called on Vice President Kamala Harris to introduce legislation to make being a coyote a federal crime.

Giammattei said the change in government led to a change in message. “The message changed to ‘We are going to reunite families and we are going to reunite children,” the foreign leader told CBS News. “The very next day the coyotes here were organizing groups of children to take them to the United States.”

“We asked the United States government to send more of a clear message to prevent more people from leaving,” Giammattei added.

Giammattei said that he and Harris, who traveled to Guatemala on Monday, “are not on the same side of the coin. It is obvious.”

“We are in agreement on the ‘what'” of the border crisis, “which is something. We are not in agreement on the ‘how.'”

In a Zoom meeting before Harris’s trip to Guatemala, Giammattei said he pressed the vice president to change U.S. law to criminalize human trafficking across the border.

“We asked her to introduce a bill in the U.S. Senate that would make human smuggling and acting as a coyote a federal crime,” he said. “Here the penalty for being a coyote is 5 or 6 years in prison. [There, in the United States,] it’s a joke.”

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents have arrested 95 convicted sex offenders since October 1, 2020, a whopping 3,166 percent increase over the same timeframe last fiscal year. Biden canceled Operation Talon, a Trump administration initiative that deported illegal immigrants who had been convicted of sex crimes.

Border crossings hit record levels in April, when immigration officials detained almost 179,000 people, the highest level since the 2000s. In addition to those detained border crossers, officials have recorded at least 40,000 unlawful border crossers who got away.

Biden rushed to reverse the Trump policies that had gotten the border crisis under control. Not only did the president order an end to border wall construction, but he also ended the “Remain in Mexico” policy that required asylum seekers to remain in Mexico until their cases had been adjudicated. Biden also unilaterally dropped Trump’s “safe third country” deals with Latin American countries like Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador that enabled the U.S. to direct asylum seekers to settle in countries that were safe for them, rather than allowing them into the U.S.

"Many of them are currently seeking safety in host communities and forests across Kayah and southern parts of neighboring Shan state," the statement adds. "This crisis could push people across international borders seeking safety, as already seen in other parts of the country." The U.N. urges security forces "to allow safe passage of humanitarian supplies and personnel" and allow direct relief assistance.

9:00 p.m. China's friendly policy toward Myanmar is not affected by changes in circumstances internal or external to the latter, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi tells counterpart Wunna Maung Lwin. Wang says China supports all parties in Myanmar to resolve their differences through political dialogue, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Wunna Maung Lwin says Myanmar is committed to maintaining national stability and social tranquility, the statement says. Their talks in Chongqing come the day after Wang's meeting with foreign ministers from Association of Southeast Asian Nations members, during which the Myanmar crisis was discussed. At that meeting, Wang said China is willing to continue to work with ASEAN to jointly urge all parties in Myanmar to put the interests of the people first, and keep calm to eliminate all kinds of violence, according to a separate Foreign Ministry statement.

11:00 a.m. The lower house of Japan's parliament passes a resolution condemning the Myanmar military's takeover. "The coup by the Myanmar Armed Forces on Feb. 1 is a trampling of democratization efforts and expectations," it says, stating that the current regime's legitimacy "cannot be recognized at all."

9:00 a.m. Myanmar's junta, the State Administration Council, will discuss changing the country's financial year, the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar reports. This would follow a 2018 switch by the National League for Democracy government, to an October-September year rather than April-March. The junta's leader, Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, said during a council speech on Monday that the change had inconvenienced the government, businesses and farmers.

This marks the first meeting of the foreign ministers in over a year, and the junta's foreign minister, Wunna Maung Lwin, also attended, according to Global New Light of Myanmar, a state-owned newspaper.

4:30 p.m. A Myanmar court will hear prosecutor's witnesses from June 14, the lawyer of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi told media in Naypyitaw after a special court hearing on Monday. The hearing will continue until June 28, after which the defendant's witnesses will be called and heard until July 26, the lawyer said, adding that the court was likely to pass a sentence by mid-August. The lawyer also said that Suu Kyi was now where she was moved before the previous court hearing on May 24, although neither she nor the lawyer were told of the location.

2:50 p.m. A special court hearing against ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi was held in Naypyitaw. The court has arranged all cases against Suu Kyi to be judged within 180 days starting from the date of the filing of each case at the court, ending by August. The trial will be held every week on Monday and Tuesday starting from next week. Suu Kyi was allowed to meet with her lawyers in person for the second time since the military arrested her in the Feb. 1 coup.

Stabilizing Braces: The New Bump Stock

The Department of Justice (DOJ) issued two new gun proposals today, one regarding stabilizing braces and the other about red flag laws, keeping Biden’s promise of shredding your 2nd Amendment rights.

Lefties got their undies in a bundle about stabilizing braces when they learned the Muslim mass shooter in Boulder, Colo. used one to murder 10 white people last March. Another mass shooter used one in a 2019 mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio. I’m willing to bet most lefties hadn’t even heard of the brace until Biden made a big stink about them, much as they hadn’t heard of a bump stock until the Vegas shooting.

“The use of a purported ‘stabilizing brace’ cannot be a tool to circumvent the NFA (or the GCA) and the prohibition on the unregistered possession of ‘short-barreled rifles,’” the proposed rule says. GCA stands for Gun Control Act of 1968. Stabilizing braces are used to bolster the stability and accuracy of guns. Short-barreled weapons can require more of a background check, that’s why the left wants to pretend a brace is a buttstock so that it’s harder for you to get one. Some people on the left believe a stabilizing brace converts an AR pistol into a short-barreled rifle, and is “more likely to be used to commit crimes.”

Some professionals disagree.

“These braces are not anything new. The design is new, and you get more stability out of the brace, but it does not modify the actual functioning of the firearm,” said Ken Padgett, a former Denver Police SWAT officer. “It doesn’t add capacity, it doesn’t add velocity, it doesn’t add anything to the firearm at all except for the fact that it makes it a little more stable.”

As of this writing, 1547 people have been shot in Chicago this year and I’m willing to bet stabilizing braces haven’t been involved in any of those shootings. I also believe banning them won’t prevent further carnage. It’s a silly move being used to make Democrat voters chuckle. Merrick Garland thinks this is a step in reducing gun violence.

“The Justice Department is determined to take concrete steps to reduce the tragic toll of gun violence in our communities,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. “Today we continue to deliver on our promise to help save lives while protecting the rights of law-abiding Americans. We welcome the opportunity to work with communities in the weeks and months ahead in our shared commitment to end gun violence.”

How about not letting criminals out of jail? How about re-instating bail laws? Nah, let’s go after those rarely used gun accessories. What’s next, laser sights?

The DOJ also issued a ruling on the controversial red flag laws. This is a slippery slope. Yes, if my neighbor threatens to shoot me I will report him, but that likely won’t get his gun taken away. If the libs in my family get together and decide to report me to the authorities for being a “hot head” should I lose my gun rights? This is just a scenario, I don’t talk to the libs in my family. The following “petitioners” can, with a phone call, have your guns taken away,

(1) “Petitioner” means:

(A) A law enforcement officer or agency, including an attorney for the state;

(B) A member of the family of the respondent, which shall be understood to mean a parent, spouse, child, or sibling of the respondent;

(C) A member of the household of the respondent;

(D) A dating or intimate partner of the respondent;

(E) A health care provider [as defined by state law] who has provided health services to the respondent;

(F) An official of a school or school system in which the respondent is enrolled or has been enrolled within the preceding [six months/one year/two years/other appropriate time period specified by state law]; or

(G) [Any other appropriate persons specified by state law.]

(2) “Respondent” means the person against whom an order under Section 2 or 3 has been sought or granted.

(b) TYPES OF ORDERS. – The petitioner may apply for an emergency ex parte order as provided in Section 2 or an order following a hearing as provided in Section 3.

As I read it, a roommate or cranky girlfriend can have me relieved of my guns. If you don’t think the DOJ has thought this through you are wrong. They are leaving a ton of people in your life with the ability to have your guns, and your rights, taken away.

The Department of Justice announced on Monday that they’ve recovered some $4.4 million dollars worth of Bitcoin paid in ransom to hackers who prompted the shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline, according to CNN, which notes that “The ransom recovery is a rare outcome for a company that has fallen victim to a debilitating cyberattack in the booming criminal business of ransomware.”

Colonial Pipeline Co. CEO Joseph Blount told The Wall Street Journal In an interview published last month that the company complied with the $4.4 million ransom demand because officials didn’t know the extent of the intrusion by hackers and how long it would take to restore operations.

But behind the scenes, the company had taken early steps to notify the FBI and followed instructions that helped investigators track the payment to a cryptocurrency wallet used by the hackers, believed to be based in Russia. US officials have linked the Colonial attack to a criminal hacking group known as Darkside that is said to share its malware tools with other criminal hackers. -CNN

The Monday announcement is part of a new initiative by Justice Department to crack down on all types of federal cyber crimes – including botnets, money laundering and ‘bulletproof hosting,’ according to Ars Technica. The move will elevate ransomware investigations to the same level as that of terrorism.

“To ensure we can make necessary connections across national and global cases and investigations… we must enhance and centralize our internal tracking of investigations and prosecutions of ransomware groups and the infrastructure and networks that allow the threats to persist,” said Deputy Attorney General Lisa Moreno in a Thursday memo first reported by Reuters.

According to the Ars: The new directive applies not just to cases or investigations involving ransomware but a host of related scourges, including:

Counter anti-virus services

Illicit online forums or marketplaces

Cryptocurrency exchanges

Bulletproof hosting services

Botnets

Online money laundering services

Of course, this directly contradicts Treasury Secretary’s Janet Yellen’s fear mongering over Bitcoin enabling ‘anonymous’ ransomware to sweep the globe, thus requiring big brother’s watchful oversight.

We expect crypto regulation to be a central focus, despite the fact that the role of digital currencies in illicit activity has basically bottomed out, while Yellen’s (et al.) narrative has been thoroughly BTFO (by a former CIA director no less).

The Biden DOJ’s push to target cybercriminals comes not only after the Colonial pipeline hack, but a May attack three weeks later at meat producer JBS, along with several other hacks across various industries – including Scripps Health, which continues to recover after taking their electronic health records offline for weeks.

Meanwhile, US prosecutors charged a 55-year-old Latvian woman in a ‘Trickbot Gang’ case – the first test of the DOJ’s Ransomware and Digital Extortion Task Force according to a press release cited by cybersecurity professional Shah Sheikh.

On Thursday, at least two new ransomware infections surfaced. The first struck Cox Media Group and, according to The Record, left the media company unable to provide livestreaming for TV stations and internal networks. The second hit UF Health Central Florida, which operates two hospitals. A spokesman for UF Health said that access to email and most other system platforms had been suspended. Staff in all hospitals and physician clinics are now using pen and paper to document and order care.

Stellar 3Y Auction Sees Surge In Foreign Demand

We start another week of Treasury auctions with today's 1pm sale of $58BN in 3Y bonds and it was nothing short of a whopper.

With a high yield of 0.325%, this was the 2nd consecutive 3Y auction where the yield has declined (down from 0.329% in May and 0.376% in April). The reason for this: investors increasingly have to shift further out on the curve to park "safe" securities now that short-term funding markets are at or near zero. The auction also stopped through the When Issued 0.326% by 0.1bps, a rebound to last month's 0.2bps tail.

The Bid to Cover jumped from 2.422 in May to 2.467, the highest since March and above the 6-auction average of 2.436.

But it was the internals where the demand for today's paper truly shone as Indirects rushed to get as much as they could, and were allotted 54.2%, a big jump from last month's 49.6% and the highest since October 2020. And with Directs of 18.3% practically unchanged from 18.1% last month, this left Dealers holding on to just 27.6% of the final takedown, the lowest since December 2019 when Dealers were awarded just 27.1%.

Overall, a blockbuster of an auction...and the last thing record bond shorts needed as they debate whether to keep holding on to underwater positions ahead of Thursday's CPI print or to book losses and dump it. And with that attention now shifts to tomorrow's 10Y benchmark offering, and certainly to Thursday's 30Y sale which will come just hours after what is expected to be another blowout inflation print.

The Secret IRS Files: Trove of Never-Before-Seen Records Reveal How the Wealthiest Avoid Income Tax

ProPublica has obtained a vast cache of IRS information showing how billionaires like Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Warren Buffett pay little in income tax compared to their massive wealth — sometimes, even nothing.

In 2007, Jeff Bezos, then a multibillionaire and now the world’s richest man, did not pay a penny in federal income taxes. He achieved the feat again in 2011. In 2018, Tesla founder Elon Musk, the second-richest person in the world, also paid no federal income taxes.

Michael Bloomberg managed to do the same in recent years. Billionaire investor Carl Icahn did it twice. George Soros paid no federal income tax three years in a row.

ProPublica has obtained a vast trove of Internal Revenue Service data on the tax returns of thousands of the nation’s wealthiest people, covering more than 15 years. The data provides an unprecedented look inside the financial lives of America’s titans, including Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Rupert Murdoch and Mark Zuckerberg. It shows not just their income and taxes, but also their investments, stock trades, gambling winnings and even the results of audits.

Taken together, it demolishes the cornerstone myth of the American tax system: that everyone pays their fair share and the richest Americans pay the most. The IRS records show that the wealthiest can — perfectly legally — pay income taxes that are only a tiny fraction of the hundreds of millions, if not billions, their fortunes grow each year.

Many Americans live paycheck to paycheck, amassing little wealth and paying the federal government a percentage of their income that rises if they earn more. In recent years, the median American household earned about $70,000 annually and paid 14% in federal taxes. The highest income tax rate, 37%, kicked in this year, for couples, on earnings above $628,300.

The confidential tax records obtained by ProPublica show that the ultrarich effectively sidestep this system.

UPDATE: Accurate List of 2020 Election Fraud Cases Shows 87 Total Cases – Trump and/or GOP Won 71% of Cases Where Merits Were Heard

The 2020 election will go down as arguably the greatest fraud in world history. The tremendously popular incumbent candidate, President Trump, was easily winning the race on election night in a landslide and then suddenly multiple states took a break, quit counting, and by the end of the week the election was flipped to Joe Biden.

Then, as the President and his team attempted to address the fraud and alleged abnormalities, the courts refused to hear many of the important cases that impacted the nation and the world.

We’ve heard over and over from Big Media that President Trump and his team lost numerous court cases linked to the 2020 election. But this is not accurate.

Here’s what we identified as provided in an accurate and updated list of court cases:

There are 87 court cases to date based on the 2020 election

In 26 cases President Trump was the plaintiff

In 56 cases President Trump was not the plaintiff

In 5 cases President Trump is the defendant

In 24 cases the case was decided on the merits

In 17 of the 24 cases (71%) decided on the merits President Trump and/or the GOP prevailed

12 cases remain active

In the 2020 election:

Thousands of instances of fraud were observed and/or alleged

Multiple states changed laws to provide for absentee ballots and the manner changes were made is alleged to be illegitimate

The FBI to date has done nothing to review the alleged fraud

The DOJ denied any alleged material instances of fraud

The Democrats are accused of the alleged election fraud

The state legislatures certified their results with millions of ballots in question

The US Congress accepted these certified results which ignored the thousands of instances of election fraud

VP Mike Pence accepted the results despite state legislatures asking him to examine the results

And now we know President Trump and/or the GOP won 71% of the cases where merits were heard.

Americans are livid with the actions that took place in the 2020 election and believe the election was stolen. There are numerous reasons for this.

NYT, MSNBC’s Mara Gay: ‘Disturbing’ to see ‘dozens of American flags’ on trucks on Long Island

MSNBC contributor Mara Gay said Tuesday that she was “disturbed” to see “dozens of American flags” flown by Donald Trump supporters during a weekend trip to Long Island, New York.

The left-wing editorial board member for the New York Times was also distressed by what she called expletives on the trucks against President Biden, describing the flag-flying Trump supporters as sending a clear message: “This is my country … not your country. I own this.”

“The reality is here that we have a large percentage of the American population — I don’t know how big it is, but we have tens of millions of Trump voters who continue to believe that their rights as citizens are under threat by simple virtue of having to share the democracy with others,” Gay said in response to MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski calling for an investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

“I think that as long as they see Americanness as the same as one with whiteness, this is going to continue,” Gay said, turning to race and adding that “Americanness” and “whiteness” needed to be separated.

“I was on Long Island this weekend visiting a really dear friend, and I was really disturbed. I saw, you know, dozens and dozens of pickup trucks with explicatives [sic] against Joe Biden on the back of them, Trump flags, and in some cases just dozens of American flags, which is also just disturbing … Essentially the message was clear: This is my country. This is not your country. I own this,” Gay said.

She claimed Americans would continue to see things like that until the country was ready to have the conversation about “whiteness,” adding her concern that “a large percentage of Americans” don’t understand the threat that it is.

EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak – who collaborated with the Wuhan Institute of Virology on research funded by Dr. Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease – appears to boast about the manipulation of “killer” SARS-like coronaviruses carried out by his “colleagues in China” in a clip unearthed by The National Pulse.

Daszak made the admission at a 2016 forum discussing “emerging infectious diseases and the next pandemic,” which appears to be at odds with Fauci’s repeated denial of funding gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

While describing how his organization sequences deadly viruses, Daszak describes the process of “insert[ing] spike proteins” into viruses to see if they can “bind to human cells” as being carried out by his “colleagues in China”:

“Then when you get a sequence of a virus, and it looks like a relative of a known nasty pathogen, just like we did with SARS. We found other coronaviruses in bats, a whole host of them, some of them looked very similar to SARS. So we sequenced the spike protein: the protein that attaches to cells. Then we… Well I didn’t do this work, but my colleagues in China did the work. You create pseudo particles, you insert the spike proteins from those viruses, see if they bind to human cells. At each step of this you move closer and closer to this virus could really become pathogenic in people.

“You end up with a small number of viruses that really do look like killers,” he adds.
