This what we do in the country, drunk Mexican trenched neighbors yard, had one wheel off in ditch stuck on concrete culvert. Managed to get off culvert but car stopped dead inches from hitting neighbors. Another neighbor (retired sheriff) opened door to grab keys, Mexican started coming out cussing. She says oh he'll no and slams door on Mexicans leg, Mexican screaming iiii-eeee lays over on seat wailing, so we zipped tied him... he passed out. Law wouldn't come on in without backup, guess a bunch of armed country folks be lookin scary and sheit. Women folks still in jammies but packin, one neighbor only had on boxers. Neighbors in mid eighties, called 5 of us and 9 showed up. Was good to know we can count on each other here.

Trudeau resumes summer political tour after Costa Rica holiday

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is resuming his summer politicking tour Thursday with a trip to Quebec’s Gaspe Peninsula. Trudeau is there to continue the summer meet and greets he started in July in other parts of Canada. His planned events include visits to a farm, wind farm and a train retrofitting plant in New Richmond. Trudeau’s last stop in the region came when he was in full pre-campaign mode just one month before he called a federal election. This visit comes as the provincial government is set to go into an election where the future of French is sure to play a big role. RAF personnel chief 'unashamed' of 'pausing job offers for white men' to employ more women and ethnic minorities

The RAF's top personnel officer has confirmed she did ask her recruitment team to "stop filling up the training courses" with new recruits temporarily after diversity targets were not being hit.

The admission by Air Vice-Marshal Maria Byford came after Sky News reported on Tuesday that the head of RAF recruitment had resigned in protest at what defence sources described as an "effective pause" on making job offers to white men in favour of women and ethnic minorities.

An RAF spokesperson at the time denied that there had been any pause in recruitment. Speaking to The Times, Air Vice-Marshal Byford - one of the most senior female officers in the air force - said she was "unashamed" of a policy that could mean women and ethnic minorities are in effect being prioritised for roles over white men.

The Chief of Staff Personnel - who is the boss of the female Group Captain who quit in apparent protest at what the recruitment team was being asked to do - said in the interview she had "slowed" down the recruitment process for all candidates ahead of a meeting of the RAF board next month.

The board would consider ways to use "positive action" legally so recruits could potentially be selected on merit, their gender or ethnicity if they passed the basic requirements to join the service, Air Vice-Marshal Byford said.

Candidates are at present put forward for training as soon as they meet the requirements in a "first past the post" system, rather than based on how well they did at certain stages of the selection process. "And if I can include more women and more people from different backgrounds in that, I think I have a better service in the long run. We are unashamed about doing that because I think that's a good thing," the senior officer was quoted as saying.

NAR: Existing-Home Sales Decreased to 4.81 million SAAR in July

Existing-home sales sagged for the sixth straight month in July, according to the National Association of REALTORS®. All four major U.S. regions recorded month-over-month and year-over-year sales declines.

Total existing-home sales, completed transactions that include single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, slipped 5.9% from June to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.81 million in July. Year-over-year, sales fell 20.2% (6.03 million in July 2021).

Total housing inventory registered at the end of July was 1,310,000 units, an increase of 4.8% from June and unchanged from the previous year. Unsold inventory sits at a 3.3-month supply at the current sales pace, up from 2.9 months in June and 2.6 months in July 2021. Sales in July (4.81 million SAAR) were down 5.9% from the previous month and were 20.2% below the July 2021 sales rate.

Cap #2 shows nationwide inventory for existing homes. According to the NAR, inventory increased to 1.31 million in July from 1.25 million in June.

Headline inventory is not seasonally adjusted, and inventory usually decreases to the seasonal lows in December and January, and peaks in mid-to-late summer. Cap#3 shows the year-over-year (YoY) change in reported existing home inventory and months-of-supply. Since inventory is not seasonally adjusted, it really helps to look at the YoY change. Note: Months-of-supply is based on the seasonally adjusted sales and not seasonally adjusted inventory. Inventory was unchanged year-over-year (blue) in July compared to July 2021.

Months of supply (red) increased to 3.3 months in July from 2.9 months in June. This was below the consensus forecast.

Mortgage rates tick down as volatility persists

The average rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage dipped to 5.13%. The average rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage dipped slightly this week as volatility continues in the cooling U.S. housing market.

Freddie Mac's latest Primary Mortgage Market Survey released Thursday shows the average rate for the popular 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is now at 5.13%, down from 5.22% from last week but well above the 2.86% average a year ago. The average for a 15-year fixed-rate note also fell, dropping to 4.55% from 4.59%. A year ago, the 15-year rate averaged 2.16%.

Home sale cancellations soared to a 2-year high last month.

Dollar hits 1-month high as Fed officials talk up rate hikes

The U.S. dollar climbed to a fresh one-month high against a basket of major peers on Friday as Federal Reserve policymakers continued to talk up the need for further interest rate hikes ahead of their key Jackson Hole symposium next week. The dollar index rose 0.121% to 107.620, after earlier touching 107.68, its highest since July 18. The gauge is on track for a 1.89% rally this week, which would be its best weekly performance since June 12.

Japan's inflation holds above BOJ target, price pressures broaden

While inflation exceeded its 2% target for four straight months, the Bank of Japan (BOJ) is likely to remain an outlier in keeping monetary conditions ultra-loose with price rises still modest compared with other major economies. The core consumer price index (CPI), which excludes fresh food prices, rose 2.4% in July from a year earlier, matching a median market forecast, government data showed on Friday.

That followed a 2.2% gain in June and marked the fastest pace since December 2014, excluding sales tax hike effects. Policymakers are clinging to hope that big manufacturers, which benefited from solid global demand and the profit-boost from a weak yen, will lead the way in boosting wages to help cushion the blow to households from rising living costs.
