Raimondo says Inflation is 'a global problem' and declared so much is 'out of our control' Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said Sunday that U.S. inflation has "probably" peaked, but that could change due to factors "out of our control." During an appearance on CBS News’ "Face the Nation," Raimondo argued that inflation is a "global" problem largely impacted by global events.

Asked by CBS anchor Margaret Brennan whether inflation had peaked, Raimondo responded, "I think probably." "But look, if I had said that a year ago, you know, assuming another war doesn't break out, assuming we don't have another COVID, you know, there's so much out of our control," she said. "Inflation is a global problem." Raimondo's comments come seven months after Biden said inflation had peaked. "It’s the peak of the crisis," the president told reporters in December when inflation was still at 6.8%. Boeing Defense Workers Reject Contract, Plan to Strike Aug. 1

Nearly 2,500 members of a union that represents three Boeing Co. defense locations in the St. Louis area voted to reject the company’s contract offer and plan to strike starting Aug. 1. “We cannot accept a contract that is not fair and equitable, as this company continues to make billions of dollars each year off the backs of our hardworking members,” the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 837 said in a statement on its website Sunday. The union said the company “previously took away a pension from our members” and isn’t compensating their 401(k) plans adequately.

The strike will affect workers in St. Louis and St. Charles in Missouri and Mascoutah, Illinois, who build military aircraft including the F-15, F-18, T-7A trainer and the MQ-25 unmanned refueler-(a carrier based drone refueling system-picrel). The failed negotiations may portend an equally tough time for Boeing in the next round of contract talks for IAM’s much larger contingent at the company’s Seattle commercial-aircraft operations, which has about 30,000 Machinists members in a separate bargaining unit.

“Boeing is disappointed with Sunday’s vote to reject a strong, highly competitive offer,” a company spokesman said via email. “We are activating our contingency plan to support continuity of operations in the event of a strike.”

In a statement on July 21, the union said Boeing offered “subpar” general wage increases, “no change in wage progression, and takeaways” in the 401(k).

Boeing said in May that it’s moving its headquarters from Chicago to Arlington, Virginia, to be nearer decision-makers at the Pentagon and elsewhere in the US government. Its shares have dropped 21% so far this year through Friday’s close. The company reported adjusted losses in 2020 and 2021.

The Silver Whale Story: What is it attempting to address IF it is true

This order, if true, is attempting to expose the U.S. Mint and it's requirement to produce silver eagles "in sufficient quantity to match demand"-otherwise there wouldn't be these ridiculous premiums attacked to spot. The US Mint is Janet Yellen at the US Treasury's control-the buck stops it stops with her-laws and requirements point to the Secretary of the Treasury being responsible.

The author makes some important points which I won't go over in much detail but most important is you don't tell everyone before you do this-you certainly do NOT say it before your order is complete with this "She claims this is the first of several, up to a Billion dollars of orders she wants to place”...not a smart thing to do in any buy and hold scenario..and as they also bring up..Musk did the same thing with Bitcoin and then sold it and lost $150m in the process..you'll recall the "Diamond Hands" quote he made.

The laws that this buyer (if this story is true) is trying expose with this purchase and what the US Mint has to do when demand exceeds supply are broken down below-as demand is very obviously exceeding supply as you've got YUGE premiums on them so there is a lack of supply at some point

Now this is the issue that is at work with this "mystery buyer" which will deal with 31 U.S. Code § 5112 - Denominations, specifications, and design of coins and specifically section E which states

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Secretary shall mint and issue, in qualities and quantities that the Secretary determines are sufficient to meet public demand, coins which and section F which statesThe Secretary shall sell the coins minted under subsection (e) to the public at a price equal to the market value of the bullion at the time of sale, plus the cost of minting, marketing, and distributing such coins (including labor, materials, dies, use of machinery, and promotional and overhead expenses).

and then we get to 31 U.S. Code § 5111 - Minting and issuing coins, medals, and numismatic items

Which basically says they are not allowed to make a profit and if they do it has to be plowed back into the cost of procurement and production to lower costs.'''

(b) The Department of the Treasury has a coinage metal fund and a coinage profit fund. The Secretary may use the coinage metal fund to buy metal to mint coins. The Secretary shall credit the coinage profit fund with the amount by which the nominal value of the coins minted from the metal exceeds the cost of the metal.

And where it gets good is here in section (c) that speaks to the need to go outside of it's normal suppliers to secure the blanks for the production of the coins

(c) Procurements Relating to Coin Production.

(1) In general.—The Secretary may make contracts, on conditions the Secretary decides are appropriate and are in the public interest, to acquire articles, materials, supplies, and services (including equipment, manufacturing facilities, patents, patent rights, technical knowledge, and assistance) necessary to produce the coins referred to in this title.

So the US Treasury Secretary has implicit authority to go out into the open market(s) and procure the silver needs to satisfy demand however they must file a report and document the reasons for doing so.......the best part is below in section (3)

(3) Determination.—(A) In general.—

Any determination of the Secretary referred to in paragraph (2) shall not be reviewable in any administrative proceeding or court of the United States.

They can do whatever they want or in this case NOT and NONE of it is reviewable by anyone and specifically stated as such....simply put the answer from the US Treasury is SUCK IT
