Axelrod on reported Trump outburst at Netanyahu: ‘His analysis is not wrong’

Democratic strategist David Axelrod said Monday night that President Trump’s reported outburst at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a phone call earlier in the day was justified.

Trump reportedly slammedNetanyahu over the prime minister’s plan to attack Hezbollah targets in southern Beirut, an escalation of the war in Lebanon that prompted Iran to suspend peace talks with the United States.

Two U.S. officials and a third source briefed on the call told Axios that Trump referred to Netanyahu as “crazy” and yelled, “What the f— are you doing?” during the call.

When asked about the reported conversation by CNN’s Erin Burnett on “OutFront,” Axelrod said, “It doesn’t sound like a very friendly call.”

“Look, I think that the president — his analysis is not wrong. I think — you know — Bibi Netanyahu has done tremendous damage, in my view, to Israel and to Israel’s standing in the world. And, this war — I think what Trump’s really mad about, if you believe the reporting in The New York Times on this … Bibi had a lot to do with talking the president into thinking this was a good idea, and that’s what he’s really mad about.”

“What he’s mad about is Bibi has created a huge political problem for him, because the economy is the thing that is on the minds of Americans, and he has made it worse,” Axelrod added.

The Timesreported in early Aprilthat Netanyahu, in February, gave a presentation in the White House Situation Room that factored heavily into Trump’s decision to launch the war with Iran, which has stretched on for three months and increasingly stressed the global economy.

Before Monday’s call, Netanyahu ordered the Israel Defense Forces to attack Hezbollah targets in the Dahieh district of Beirut. Israel and Hezbollah have been fighting since October 2023, despite agreeing to a ceasefire in November 2024.

After the call, Trump announced on Truth Social that Israeli troops would retreat from Beirut and that any troops on their way to the capital “have already been turned back.”

“Likewise, through highly placed Representatives, I had a very good call with Hezbollah, and they agreed that all shooting will stop — That Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel,” he added.

Iranian officials have said that Israeli strikes on Lebanon are a violation of a ceasefire that the U.S. and Iran agreed to on April 7.

The Tasnim News Agency, which is affiliated with Iran’s military, said Tehran was suspending talks with the U.S. in protest of the Israeli aggression. However, Trump said later in the day that talks were moving forward.

Russia blacklists five UK nationals for peddling disinfo

A group of journalists, experts, and leaders of pro-Ukrainian NGOs has been placed on Moscow’s entry-ban list

Moscow has added five British nationals to its blacklist over London’s hostile actions, spread of disinformation, and the concentrated effort “to pump up the Kiev regime with weaponry,” the Russian Foreign Ministry has said.

The ministry announced the move on Tuesday, urging London “to renounce aggressive anti-Russian steps, as well as its support for the [Vladimir] Zelensky regime.” The UK’s effort to prolong the Ukraine conflict no matter what leads only to “further civilian casualties” and ultimately the “destruction of Ukrainian statehood,” it said.

The latest addition to Russia’s no-entry list includes journalists and experts involved in “disseminating slanderous fabrications and false information.” It also features two heads of “British security companies” that recruit personnel to prop up the Kiev regime under the guise of “implementing pseudo-humanitarian projects in Ukraine,” the ministry stated.

The sanctioned individuals are Catherine Belton and Richard Holmes, journalists with The Washington Post and The i Paper, respectively. The list also includes Alexander Browder, a self-styled corruption and money-laundering expert, described by the ministry as the author of a misleading report for the Henry Jackson Society think tank.

The restrictions have also been slapped on Alice Laugher, CEO of the Committed to Good (CTG), an NGO, supposedly involved in “humanitarian and development projects in fragile and conflict-affected areas.” Nicholas Westbury, one of the founders of CTG’s parent company, the Chelsea Group, has also made the list.

Russian diplomats said work on the blacklist, as well as other retaliatory measures, is bound to continue unless London abandons its hostile stance.

“We warn that any efforts by British political elites to further fuel Russophobia, deliberately damage our country’s international reputation, and accelerate the anti-Russian sanctions will inevitably be met with a decisive response,” the ministry stated.

London has emerged as a key backer of Kiev in the Ukraine conflict, actively seeking to derail attempts to resolve it through diplomacy and focusing on inflicting a defeat on Russia instead. The UK has been leading various initiatives to supply Ukrainian forces with increasingly sophisticated weaponry, and to rally additional foreign monetary and military support.

US Law Enforcement Warns of ‘Anti-Tech Extremism’ as AI Hatred Grows

As Americans stew over the looming risk of job-stealing AI and data centers in their backyards, the feds are raising the alarm about a new category of threat, documents obtained by WIRED show.

More than 1,000 pages of unpublished reports from the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, and fusion centers obtained by WIRED show a national shift taking place to surveil this new and worryingly broad category of people and activities deemed an emerging threat.

This new effort follows President Donald Trump's National Security Presidential Memo 7, which instructs the Department of Justice to target anyone holding “anti-American,” “anti-Christian,” and "anti-capitalism” beliefs. Earlier this month, Trump's counterterrorism czar, Sebastian Gorka, released a public counterterrorism strategy claiming that left-wing extremists are one of the three top counterterrorism priorities facing the United States.

Taken together, these Trump administration directives have commandeered the domestic surveillance apparatus to surveil and criminalize speech and assembly that challenges the ideology of the White House. A new focus on anti-technology extremism adds an unreported category to already public designations under a presidency that has heavily invested political and material capital in AI and data center proliferation.

Among the documents in the tranche obtained by WIRED is a New York Intelligence and Counterterrorism Bureau report that warns of widespread upheaval in response to AI adoption. Of particular note is a novel term for what the bureau purports to be an emerging extremism threat.

"The chaotic atmosphere that may result from emergent AI technology in the next five years may fuel large-scale protests that devolve into civil unrest and anti-tech violent extremist activity, especially in large urban areas such as New York City," the report reads. The term "anti-tech violent extremism" does not appear in any publicly available DHS or FBI domestic extremism reports or guides and represents a novel grouping of a wide range of ideologies under a single extremist category.

In the same Intelligence Bureau assessment, analysts also describe a novel threat emerging in the wake of the arrest and trial of Ziz Laota, an extreme rationalist who allegedly led a small cultlike group, three members of which have been charged with murder, tied to an obsessive ideology focused on the existential risk posed by AI.

While the Zizian ideology is extremist in nature, a less extreme version of the same fears surrounding the cataclysmic potential of AI are a common concern among AI alignment experts, machine learning engineers, and even frontier AI companies. Nonetheless, the Intelligence Bureau warns that "paranoid views regarding AI" may proliferate in the aftermath of the Zizians' trial, thanks to their "attempt to reason the belief that a godlike incarnation of AI is imminent," and belief that "humans must best use their time in the present to devote themselves to ensuring its compliance with human morality, or face existential consequences for failing to do so."

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – Two multi-state drug trafficking organizations were taken down today with 13 federal arrests made in Maryland and West Virginia, announced U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey.

“Thanks to the tireless, coordinated work of law enforcement across multiple states, our communities are now safer,” said U.S. Attorney Matthew Harvey. “Our focus now turns to ensuring these individuals are held fully accountable for the harm they caused.”

One operation, led by Rohan Broadie, aka Glama G, Aneteneh Zewde Terfe, and Marvin A. Taaff of the Baltimore and Greenbelt, Maryland areas, involved 15 defendants and used multiple residences to store and distribute drugs. Members of the group allegedly possessed firearms to support their trafficking activities and handled large amounts of cash in drug proceeds. Omari Obeng Stewart, aka O, routinely traveled between Maryland and West Virginia to supply, coordinate, and sell cocaine and cocaine base throughout the region. Several defendants are charged in a drug conspiracy involving over five kilograms of cocaine and 28 grams of cocaine base. The second organization, led by brothers Jorfory and Joroy Twyman, of Ranson, West Virginia, worked together to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine and quantities of cocaine base in and around Jefferson County, West Virginia. During the investigation, law enforcement searched multiple homes and storage units, seizing tens of thousands of dollars, cocaine, and luxury items believed to have been purchased with drug proceeds.

“Today’s arrests demonstrate the power of partnership in action. Building public safety is a complex challenge that no single agency can accomplish alone. Each agency contributes unique authorities and expertise, and today, that collaboration has resulted in 14 alleged drug dealers being removed from our streets,” said Special Agent in Charge Eric Weindorf of Homeland Security Investigations Washington D.C. “The landscape is ever-evolving, but Homeland Security Task Force partnerships enable us to confront complex, multifaceted drug trafficking cases with a united front—leveraging our collective strengths to deliver real results.”

Canada’s mass-graves scam reveals the high price of media bias

A hoax costs taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars and incites arson attacks against dozens of churches. This time, however, it’s not the latest headline out of Minnesota — look a little further north.

In 2021, at a time when media throughout the western world were still in a state of high agitation after the killing of George Floyd, Canadian outlets picked up on a story too sensational not to be true:

Hundreds of indigenous First Nations children had been buried in unmarked graves at residential schools run by the Catholic Church in British Columbia.The Kamloops Indian Band sent around a press release that “confirmed” it. The statement claimed the remains of 215 children had been found with the help of an expert using ground-penetrating radar.

“We had a knowing in our community that we were able to verify,” said the band’s chief, Rosanne Casimir. “Some were as young as three years old,” she continued, asserting that “the final resting place of these children” was in the Kamloops Indian Residential School.

Only it wasn’t — no human remains have been found at Kamloops. And the media that fanned the flames of the story is finally admitting it.

Even now Canada’s biggest daily paper, The Globe and Mail, phrases its retraction in cagey terms: “There has been no public confirmation of the discovery of any human remains,” the paper conceded on Saturday. Yet that funny phrasing leaves one wondering, is there private confirmation of human remains — another “knowing,” perhaps?

The Globe and Mail editorial, titled “There is no reconciliation without truth,” is a masterpiece of embarrassed equivocation, lamenting conditions at Canada’s residential schools of First Nations children and even insisting that the absence of bodies “does not mean children did not die there” before finally, eight paragraphs into the story, taking a smidgen of responsibility.

“The media, including the The Globe and Mail, did not initially scrutinize, much less challenge” the story. “The initial headlines and stories in the media simply stated as fact that the remains of 215 children had been found. Many of those early stories, including in this newspaper, made references to ‘mass graves’,” a phrase that went beyond even Chief Casimir’s claims.

Yet right after the admission of its failures, the paper’s editorialists wistfully speculate, “Perhaps it will be proven, some day, that there are hundreds of unmarked graves at Kamloops” — as if the error here was just in being a little too hasty to declare what will sooner or later turn out to be true. After all, that truth is what would fit the narrative The Globe and Mail laid out in the first seven paragraphs of its story, a tale of wicked residential schools and countless First Nations children doomed to a miserable death.

The narrative comes first; the facts must follow. This time they didn’t, but next time. . .

The narrative isn’t going away just because its showcase story has been debunked.

The consequences of the media hype aren’t going away, either:

Canadian taxpayers footed the bill to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars — real money in US dollars, too — for First Nations groups to investigate “soil anomalies.” The government simply doesn’t know where that money went.

As enormous as the fraud here appears to be, however, worse is the destruction unleashed by arsonists and vandals against Catholic churches in the wake of the story. Canada’s state broadcaster, the CBC, cataloged 33 churches “burned to the ground” between 2021 and 2024, with 24 of those incidents confirmed arsons. “A researcher and some community leaders suggest Canada’s colonial history and recent discoveries of potential burial sites at former residential schools may have lit the fuse” for the incendiary attacks, the CBC reported.

Yet it was the media that lit the fuse, not only by hyping an outrageous story that was never backed up by evidence but also by laying down a grand narrative that served to inflame anger at churches — and in typical fashion, although the residential schools were Catholic-run, other churches also suffered from indiscriminate attacks.

We see this kind of thing all too often in America, too. Unlike the unmarked graves at Kamloops, George Floyd’s death was a reality. But the grand narrative spun by the media for years leading up to the riots perpetrated in Floyd’s memory was every bit as irresponsible as the narrative that made the Kamloops hoax believable. Black Americans were not being casually killed by white police officers, and high-profile cases like Floyd’s almost always involved individuals who were violently resisting arrest.

American media outlets, like Canada’s, have let progressive politics shape the stories they tell — and how they tell stories. And that often leads to violence.

The Globe and Mail has a long way to go before it makes amends, and the same can be said about all too many of America’s largest papers, too.

UN Faces Bankruptcy Risk as US, China Withhold Dues: "Cash to Run Out by August"

The United Nations could face a severe liquidity crisis in August as unpaid and delayed contributions from the United States and China — which together account for 42% of the UN's core funding — pile up, according to a warning from the organization.

According to the latest financial report from the UN General Assembly's Fifth Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Affairs on Thursday (local time), the UN's cash position is rapidly deteriorating due to funding holds and delays from the US and China. The UN Secretariat estimates that the current cash balance will only sustain operations until mid-August.

The largest contributor to the UN's financial crisis is the United States, the biggest debtor. Washington currently owes more than $4.28 billion (approximately 6.4 trillion won) in arrears. The Donald Trump administration has labeled the UN a bloated and inefficient organization, pressuring the body by stating that overdue payments will be made only after high-intensity restructuring is implemented. China, which has become the second-largest contributor after the US, recently paid $844 million toward peacekeeping costs but still owes $455 million (approximately 690 billion won) in arrears.

Within the UN, concerns are mounting that if the cash shortage materializes, staff salary payments could halt and food and security programs could be paralyzed. In response to the financial difficulties, the UN has already begun cutting jobs, including reducing administrative staff by 3,000, and has moved up the withdrawal timeline for peacekeeping forces from African conflict zones such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Knicks' Finals run prompts NYC mayor to repeal kids' bedtimes

Buzz for the Knicks' first NBA Finals run since 1999 is taking over New York City, and Mayor Zohran Mamdani is making sure the youth can enjoy it unimpeded.

The 112th mayor of New York City signed an executive order Monday with the title "repealing kids' bedtimes for Knicks Finals run." New York faces the San Antonio Spurs in a quest for its first NBA championship since 1973.

Mamdani signed the document with a group of young students around his desk, some of whom wore Knicks jerseys. Handprints of kids appeared on the opposite side of the order.

Details of the order include the importance for New Yorkers of all ages to support the team in its run for the title. A key hindrance for younger fans could be their bedtimes as each NBA Finals game tips off at 8:30 p.m. ET. However, Mamdani has that one covered.

He writes: "WHEREAS, bedtimes should not impede the ability of New York's Cutest to cheer for the Knicks and watch every second of this historic Championship series."

Section 1 puts it more definitively: "I hereby direct that bedtimes in the City of New York are repealed during the NBA Finals so that kids of all ages can root for their New York Knicks." Mamdani also added a section for "Go New York Go New York Go," lyrics from a popular team anthem released in 1993.

"As Mayor, you're forced to make many difficult decisions," Mamdani wrote on X. "This was not one of them."

The 34-year-old has been vocal during New York's road to the NBA Finals.

He jokingly blamed former Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young and noted Knicks villain for the high ticket prices of New York's first-round matchup with Atlanta. When the Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals, Mamdani tagged New York City sanitation on social media and wrote: "I'd like to report a sweep." He also took in Game 2 of the series at Madison Square Garden.

San Antonio hosts Game 1 and 2 of the NBA Finals, which begin Wednesday (8:30 p.m. ET, ABC), before the series shifts to New York. Kids around the city will likely be tuned in late - courtesy of Mamdani.

Serena Williams announces comeback to professional tennis

Serena Williams, after nearly four years since her last match, is officially making her comeback to professional tennis.

Williams, 44, announced Monday that she has accepted a wild-card invitation to play doubles in next week's HSBC Championships, a 500-level event held at Queen's Club in London.

"Queen's Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter," Williams said in an announcement from the tournament. "Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I'm excited to be back competing on one of the sport's most iconic stages."

In addition to 23 major titles, the most by any woman in the Open era, Williams has won 73 career singles titles, four Olympic gold medals and has spent 319 weeks at No. 1 in the WTA rankings. She has won 14 major doubles titles alongside sister Venus and is the only player to record a career Golden Slam in both singles and doubles.

The WTA confirmed Williams' return with a post, writing Williams was "officially returning to the stage."

"Serena is one of the greatest athletes of all-time, with a legacy that extends far beyond the court," WTA chair Valerie Camillo said in a statement. "Her return is an expression of her passion for competition, and I cannot wait to see her face a new generation of top players.

Williams has earned over $94 million in prize money throughout her career and is believed to be the highest-paid female athlete of all time.

She first teased her return on Monday morning with a social media video from longtime sponsor Nike. In the 17-second clip, Williams can be seen on the tennis court walking over to her buzzing phone while text reading "Guess everybody heard the news" is then shown.

Minutes later, the HSBC Championships announced Williams' return on social media with a post saying, "The Queen returns."

Though a return on grass will raise speculation about Wimbledon, which starts June 28, Williams has yet to announce what other tournaments she will be playing. Jill Smoller, Williams' agent, has yet to respond to ESPN's request for comment.

In August 2022, Williams, citing her desire to grow her family, announced in an essay for Vogue that she would be playing her last tournament at the US Open the following month. In the essay, she opted to use the world "evolve" instead of "retire," and expressed her mixed feelings on the topic.

"One thing I'm not going to do is sugarcoat this," Williams wrote then. "I know that a lot of people are excited about and look forward to retiring, and I really wish I felt that way."

Williams had fueled speculation of a comeback in the fall after reentering the International Tennis Integrity Agency's (ITIA) drug-testing pool, which is required to be allowed to compete again. She denied the rumors in December, writing "Omg yall I'm NOT coming back" on X.

shares skyrocketed 30% on Monday after the tech company posted blockbuster second-quarter results that blew away estimates.

Here’s how the company did compared to LSEG estimates:

Earnings per share: 79 cents adj. vs. 53 cents expected

Revenue: $10.68 billion vs. $9.79 billion expected

It was the company’s biggest EPS beat since February 2018.

Revenue was up 40% over a year ago.

Overall Cloud & AI revenue came in at $7.71 billion, topping the StreetAccount estimate of $6.87 billion, but it was the company’s server unit that really impressed. Server revenue, which is a sub-division of the cloud and artificial intelligence unit, came in at $5.45 billion, blowing away the $4.66 billion expected by analysts.

The server maker bumped its full-year EPS guidance by a full dollar, projecting fiscal year 2026 EPS of $3.35 to $3.45, up from $2.30 to $2.50. The company said it is now tracking two years ahead of its own long-term financial plan.

CEO Antonio Neri told CNBC’s Kristina Partsinevelos that traditional server bookings are up triple digits, and it is the biggest backlog the company has ever seen.

“Customers continue to invest in modernizing their infrastructure and scaling AI, and our performance shows the strength of our combined networking portfolio,” Neri said in a release announcing the quarterly results.

Neri also told CNBC that industries focused on security are seeing especially rapid acceleration for AI on-premises, instead of in the cloud. HPE is largely focused on providing that service to national labs and enterprises.

Those are “higher margin opportunities” than the neoclouds that competitors like Dell

are focused on, according to chip analyst Patrick Moorhead of Moor Insights and Strategy.

“Their bump up has everything to do with increasing profitability for AI, and the fact that they’re hitting their targets a year and a half in advance,” Moorhead said.

The global memory shortage remains a risk, and Neri said he sees costs remaining elevated into 2027.

Net income came in at $624 million, or 44 cents per share, compared to a net loss a year ago. HPE posted a net loss of $1.05 billion, a loss of 82 cents per share, a year ago.

The stock surge comes following the company’s announcement of a new server rack on Monday at the Computex conference in Taiwan. The new server will be powered by Nvidia

’s new Vera central processing units, which are now in full production.

“This is going to be our new major growth driver,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said during his keynote at Computex on Monday. He said millions of the new CPUs are currently being made, and will be available starting in the fall.

The New York Stock Exchange is one customer that plans to use the new Nvidia chips on HPE’s new server, to help it process more than a trillion messages per day.

Neri said it’s a task well suited to his company’s newest ProLiant server because it’s optimized for agentic AI workloads.

“These workloads require high-performance servers with exceptional CPU performance to enable real-time reasoning across agentic AI and financial services applications,” he said in a press release Monday. “We are delivering a new class of infrastructure to help customers accelerate insights and operate with confidence in the most demanding environments.”

With the new HPE server, “enterprises can put Vera to work, and NYSE shows what purpose-built AI infrastructure can do in the world’s most demanding environments,” Nvidia’s Huang said in a release.

The new 12th generation ProLiant server will be available in the fall.

White House Correspondents' Dinner rescheduled for July 24 after shooting disrupted initial event

The White House Correspondents' Association announced Tuesday that it will reschedule its annual press dinner for July 24 after the initial event was disrupted when a gunman attacked the gathering attended by President Trump, senior administration officials and scores of journalists.

Weijia Jiang, who is the president of the association and a CBS News senior White House correspondent, said in an email to members of the White House Correspondents' Association that the rescheduled event would be a "more intimate gathering" and feature "significantly enhanced safety measures and new access procedures."

Mr. Trump said he has accepted an invitation to speak at the dinner next month, calling it a "'HOT' ticket!"

"In a sign of Strength and Fortitude, it was just announced that The White House Correspondents' Dinner, which violently ended rather abruptly on April 25th, will be rescheduled to July 24th," he wrote on Truth Social. "This announcement is a very good thing in that we cannot allow Lunatics to change our way of life, or even its scheduling."

The president said the event will take place at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C, which used to be the Trump International Hotel. Jiang said earlier Tuesday that information about a venue would be forthcoming.

"This dinner will not only be an opportunity to carry out our program. It will be a statement that violence has no place in American life and a free press will not be intimidated into silence," she wrote. "As you have all demonstrated, courage and community can and should rise above."

She said the decision to hold a second dinner was made by the association's board after receiving input from members.

"We will not allow an act of violence to have the last word, especially during a year when we are reflecting on the 250th anniversary of America and everything we stand for," Jiang wrote.

The dinner initially took place April 25 but was upended when an armed man charged a security checkpoint outside the event. Mr. Trump, Vice President JD Vance and several Cabinet officials in attendance were evacuated, while journalists and media executives took cover under tables.

During a press conference soon after the shooting, the president said the dinner would be rescheduled.

Police identified the suspect in the attack as Cole Allen, a 31-year-old who they said traveled from California to Washington, D.C., by train and was staying at the hotel where the press dinner was to take place. He was charged with attempting to assassinate the president, assaulting a federal law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and two firearms offenses.

Allen pleaded not guilty to all charges. He will remain detained in the lead-up to a trial.

Prosecutors said he was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and knives when he attempted to run through the security checkpoint one story above the ballroom at the Washington Hilton. Law enforcement officials said Allen shot a Secret Service officer, who was hit in his bulletproof vest but was not seriously injured.

U.S., Partner Forces Defend Against Aggressive Iranian Behavior

TAMPA, Fla. — U.S. forces successfully defeated multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones, and conducted self-defense strikes on Qeshm Island in response to attempted attacks by Iran across the Middle East, June 2.

Iran launched several ballistic missiles toward regional neighbors; however, all failed to hit their intended targets. Two Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait fell short or broke apart enroute, and three missiles launched at Bahrain were immediately intercepted by U.S. and Bahrain air defense forces.

After decades of rising support, same-sex marriage acceptance may be stalling, Gallup poll shows

Acceptance of same-sex marriage and relationships in the U.S. has flattened after more than two decades of steadily increasing support, with an ongoing decline among Republicans, according to a new Gallup poll.

About 65% of U.S. adults believe same-sex marriage should be legal, down slightly from 71% in 2022 and 2023.

Most of the change is due to dropping acceptance among Republicans. In the new survey, which was conducted in May, only 37% of Republicans say same-sex marriage should be legally valid, while 35% say gay and lesbian relations are “morally acceptable.”

The views of Democrats and independents are largely stable in the findings released Wednesday, with most in both groups saying same-sex marriage should be legal and that gay or lesbian relations are moral.

The widening partisan divide is also reflected in policy around LGBTQ+ issues across the U.S., particularly regarding transgender people, and a rising push in some states to ban same-sex marriage.

Recent shifts have been subtle and partisan

The downtick in support for same-sex marriage, while slight, is still striking because of how dramatically American views on the issue have shifted over the past few decades.

According to Gallup’s trend data, only 27% of U.S. adults supported legal same-sex marriage in 1996. Since then, support for same-sex marriage rose steadily until a few years ago, when it peaked with around 7 in 10 U.S. adults saying same-sex marriage should be legal.

Opinion about the morality of same-sex relationships followed the same pattern. About 4 in 10 U.S. adults said same-sex relations were morally acceptable in 2001. That increased nearly 30 percentage points over the next two decades.

Over the past few years, Gallup’s data has shown signs of a shift in the other direction. In addition to the slight decline on same-sex marriage, the new poll also found that 62% of U.S. adults view gay and lesbian relations as morally acceptable, down from 71% in 2022.

Same-sex marriage remains recognized nationwide

Same-sex marriage has been recognized nationally since a 2015 Supreme Court ruling. That case capped a 12-year run in which court rulings and state laws recognized it in most states.

By last year, there were more than 800,000 married same-sex couples, according to data compiled by the Williams Institute at the University of California Los Angeles School of Law.

The pushback has never stopped, though. A call to overturn the 2015 reached the Supreme Court last year, invoking the words of Justice Clarence Thomas, who has called for undoing it. The court turned away the appeal without comment.

Last year, the Southern Baptist Convention overwhelmingly called for reversing the ruling that led to nationwide marriage recognition and imposing a ban.

Lawmakers in at least 11 states introduced legislation for their current or most recent sessions calling on a ban on same-sex marriage, according to an Associated Press analysis of bills compiled by the legislation tracking service Plural. Most didn’t pick up momentum. But the Tennessee House passed a measure to allow private citizens and organizations not to recognize the unions; Idaho’s House passed a resolution calling on the Supreme Court to undo the 2015 decision.

A similar number of states have had measures aimed at protecting same-sex marriage introduced recently.

Acceptance of transgender people is also down

In a sign that views of LGBTQ+ issues may be shifting more broadly, the new Gallup poll found that about 4 in 10 Americans view changing one’s gender as morally acceptable, down from nearly half in 2021.

The rights of transgender people have been a hot-button political issue this decade.

Most Republican-controlled states have adopted laws in the last five years to bar gender-affirming medical treatments for transgender minors, restrict which school bathrooms transgender people may use and bar transgender girls and women from some sports competitions.

Trump has signed executive orders seeking some of the same policies on a federal level.

This week, one of those policies suffered a blow when a court ruled that the military illegally banned transgender troops.

Thune defers to Senate Select Committee on IntelligenceChairman Tom Cotton, who, obviously, wants maximum control returned to the Central Intelligence Agency, and it is a little funny; visibly funny. Because in the background -much to the angst of the SSCI- people are starting to realize how this dysfunctional Intelligence Community apparatus actually works.

With Marco Rubio as National Security Advisor and Secretary of State, and John Ratcliffe as Director of the Central Intelligence agency, and Tulsi Gabbard as the Director of National Intelligence,the SSCI has started to lose control over their analyst-centric institutional control mechanisms.

What most Americans don’t yet fully grasp is how ridiculously stupid most of the Intelligence Community actually is.. For two decades, particularly when Team Obama was in charge, the IC qualification that mattered was political ideology. The IC became a massive network of analysts, who had no functional ability to interpret reality on the ground – regardless of where the intelligence was coming from.

As a consequence, the IC got almost everything wrong as they chased outcomes borne from the brain trust of leadership within the Senate, within the CIA, and within U.S. Dept of State. Instead of looking at things as they are, the IC always looked at things from the prism of how they wanted it to be. The analysis of the issue flowed from that perspective – regardless of the capability of the Govt institution to create that outcome.

Rubio, Ratcliffe and Gabbard started taking apart that nest of bureaucratic analytical thinking – and focusing on policy that doesn’t come from the Senate. Those targets include Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook and New York Attorney General Letitia James, who both faced allegations of mortgage-related wrongdoing by Pulte.

Trump said that Pulte will serve as acting DNI while continuing to work as FHFA director and chairman of the mortgage groups Fannie Mae

and Freddie Mac. Pulte is replacing outgoing DNI Tulsi Gabbard, who said last month that she would resign June 30.

Tillis told CNBC that Pulte “got removed from his family board the moment the family no longer owned 51%,” and later made such critical statements “that his father and aunt disavowed him having any association with their family trust.”

Tillis was referring to reports that Pulte, a scion of the founder of homebuilding giant PulteGroup, was pushed off the company’s board in 2020 amid disagreements with other directors. The senator also appeared to reference a statement from the Pulte Family Charitable Foundation, clarifying that Bill Pulte, who maintains a highly active social media presence, does not speak for his family “in any capacity.”

“Why do I bring that up? I bring it up because it suggests a temperament that’s probably not right for the DNI role,” Tillis said.

“I don’t believe he’s ever had a security clearance. He clearly has no experience in intelligence, he has no geopolitical experience, no international connections — the sorts of things you would look for” in a DNI, said Tillis.

“He’s got a structural problem. He simply doesn’t have 51 votes on the Senate floor, and he may not even have the votes in [the Senate intelligence] committee, and we just need to tell the president that clearly,” the senator said.

Tillis isn’t the only Republican to voice concerns about Pulte.

Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., who lost his primary election last month after Trump backed a rival Republican, said during an interview Tuesday at CNBC’s CEO Council Summit that Pulte does not appear “competent” to serve as acting DNI.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., told reporters on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, “We don’t need a weaponized DNI, we need professionals there.”

The White House and the FHFA did not immediately respond to CNBC’s requests for comment.

Tillis also on CNBC suggested that Pulte’s promotion could further imperil efforts to get Congress to pass key legislation — some of which has already been jeopardized by other controversies, such as the now-scrapped $1.8 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund.”

“They need to understand timing,” he said of the Trump administration. “My God, you put forth this restitution fund when we’re trying to get Homeland Security funded for three years, and you think that’s going to go well in the same week.”

“Then you want to get [Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Section] 702 authorized, and you put an incendiary attack dog like Pulte out on the agenda,” he said.

“Whoever these people are in the White House need to get the hell out of the White House,” Tillis said. “I am tired of amateur hour.”

On the night of June 1, 2026, journalist @NickSortor drove to Delaney Hall expecting what he'd seen for ten straight days: hundreds of protesters surrounding Newark's 1,000-bed ICE detention facility, human chains blocking federal vehicles, pepper balls and tear gas, helmets and gas masks distributed from organized supply stations, catered meals arriving on schedule. He found silence. The crowd — 200-plus the night before — was gone, with tens of thousands of dollars in pre-staged gear abandoned in place.

What happened between Sunday morning and Sunday night was a single message in an encrypted Signal group, as discovered by @bitchuneedsoap. A Cosecha NJ communicator posted a six-line announcement: "Cosecha is NOT mobilizing to Delaney Hall tonight. We are talking to strikers and their families to regroup." No negotiation, no vote, no gradual loss of enthusiasm. Some switch had been flipped off.

The natural question is how a protest of that size can be turned off with one message. The answer is that it was never a protest in the way most people understand the word. It was an operation — assembled, maintained, and disbanded through an organizational structure that looks, once you map it, like a military deployment with a nonprofit org chart.

The number of job openings increased to 7.6 million in April, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

reported today. Over the month, hires and total separations decreased to 5.1 million and 5.0 million,

From December 2024 to December 2025, employment increased in 169 of the 372 largest U.S. counties, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. In December 2025, national employment increased to 156.7 million, a 0.2-percent increase over the year, as measured by the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program. Buncombe, NC, had the largest over-the-year increase in employment, with a gain of 3.7 percent. Employment data in this release are presented for December 2025, and average weekly wage data are presented for fourth quarter 2025.

Among the 372 largest counties, 346 had over-the-year increases in average weekly wages. In the fourth quarter of 2025, average weekly wages for the nation increased to $1,569, a 4.2-percent increase over the year. San Mateo, CA, had the largest fourth quarter over-the-year wage gain at 11.1 percent. (See table 1.)

California’s race for governor and other key primaries remain unsettled as vote count continues

Republican Steve Hilton and Democrats Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer have separated from the pack in the governor’s race. Important House races are still too early to call as well.

California’s crowded, protracted gubernatorial primary isgoing to take a little more time to settle.

The race remained too early to call Wednesday morning with less than 60% of the expected vote counted, according to NBC News’ Decision Desk. Three main candidates — former Fox News host Steve Hilton, a Republican, and two Democrats, former Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra and billionaire activist Tom Steyer — are competing for two spots in the general election, with the candidate in fourth place, Republican Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, running well behind.

Hilton had 28% support in the all-party primary, while Becerra had 25% and Steyer had 20%. Bianco was the only other candidate in double digits, at 11%.

In California, all candidates run on the same primary ballot in the primary and the top two vote-getters, regardless of party, move on to the general election.

It’s difficult to say when it will be clear which two candidates advance to the November general election, however, due to the state’s protracted vote counting.

And with millions of ballots left to count, other key races in California remain uncalled as well, including the second runoff spot to face Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass one on one in November, several House races that could help determine the majority next year and more.

In the governor’s race, all three candidates rallied supporters around the state as the evening drew on.

“We’re not there yet, but it’s looking good,” Hilton told allies. “It looks very much as if Californians really will have the chance to vote for change in November and take our state in a new direction, a fresh start for our state, which is long overdue.”

But while Hilton was narrowly in first place when he spoke, Democratic candidates were capturing the majority of the votes.

Becerra looked back at his own “underdog story,” from his immigrant family to his bid for governor, which took some time to catch fire.

“Almost immediately, he’s counted out, an afterthought, overlooked by many, outspent by a ton, even called along the way to drop out and save us the trouble,” Becerra recounted to his supporters. “Well, guess what? The underdog stayed in the fight. Like my parents, I never gave up.”

Steyer struck ahopeful note in his election night speech despite a deficit in the vote count.

“It might take some time to figure out where this is going, we’re going to wait till every ballot is counted, we’re going to give democracy a time to work, and we know we finished really strong,” Steyer said. (Steyer and Dems know they are losing but CA cheats. If Steyer etc win, another example of why even have elections there.)

Major battleground districts

GOP Rep. David Valadao’s district has been one of Democrats’ top targets for years, but two Democrats are locked in a close race for the second spot in the November general election against the incumbent.

School board member Randy Villegas, who won support from national progressives, has a slight lead over state legislator Jasmeet Bains, 30% to 26%, with less than half of the expected vote tallied in the 22nd District. Valadao is comfortably in first place.

Munster and Kwe were inspected and interviewed by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials upon their arrival. CBP officers observed Kwe and Munster traveling with a large black plastic case. Munster and Kwe falsely told CBP officers that the black case contained diagnostics and testing equipment. But subsequent investigation by CBP and FBI agents revealed that the case actually contained 113 vials in Styrofoam coolers. As of the date of the complaint, the FBI has tested 20 of the 113 vials. Seventeen of them contained deactivated monkeypox virus, one contained the Chickenpox virus, and two contained only human DNA.
