ESA and EDF strengthen their partnership for energy efficiency at Europe’s Spaceport

The European Space Agency (ESA) and French energy provider EDF (Électricité de France) have signed a partnership agreement to continue and expand energy efficiency at Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana.

Continuing the cooperation initiated in 2019 under the French Guiana Territorial Compensation Framework, this partnership aims to identify new opportunities to improve the energy performance of ESA infrastructure and support their implementation, while ensuring compliance with the French regulatory framework supporting the energy transition.

Since the partnership started in 2019, approximately €2 million in energy saving incentives have been generated and reinvested into operational assets to fund proof-of-concept projects.

The proof-of-concept projects test innovative technologies to enhance operational performance at Europe’s Spaceport and optimise energy consumption without relying on direct ESA funding.

Notable achievements of this approach include the ice storage system deployed at Europropulsion in 2024 whereby ice is made when electricity is readily available from solar sources to cool buildings when solar power is not available, as well as the introduction of a heat pump at the Regulus Premix 344 building.

These initiatives would not have been possible without the 2019 partnership.

Several proof-of-concepts have been validated and are being considered by ESA for wider deployment.

As part of the new phase of collaboration signed on 10 February 2026, ESA aims to generate an additional €1.2 million in energy savings.

Initial applications are already close to submission, with early indications suggesting that this target will be achieved.

3 astronauts from China return to Earth after nearly 7 months in space, a record for a Chinese crew

HONG KONG (AP) — Three Chinese astronauts returned to Earth on Friday after spending nearly seven months in space, setting a record for the longest on-orbit stay by a Chinese crew.

The craft carrying Zhang Lu, Wu Fei and Zhang Hongzhang of the Shenzhou 21 crew touched down at the Dongfeng landing site in north China’s Inner Mongolia region in the evening.

Their return came as China prepares for its first lunar landing by 2030.

The crew had completed various tasks, from processing and transmitting experimental data to transferring remaining supplies, the official Xinhua News Agency quoted the China Manned Space Agency as saying.

They also shared their experience with the Shenzhou 23 crew who arrived at the space station on Monday, Xinhua said.

Xinhua reported earlier that the crew had completed three spacewalk activities.

Zhang Jingbo, the space agency's spokesperson, said that Zhang Lu, who was also on an earlier Shenzhou 15 mission to the space station, had completed seven such operations in total — becoming the Chinese astronaut with the most spacewalks, the report said.

Zhang Lu said he felt extremely emotional when he returned to China.

He said at the astronauts' mission wouldn't have been possible without the care and support from their families and comrades, as well as the the backing of leaders and those involved in the project.

Zhang Hongzhang recalled his time away from the planet.

“Looking at Earth from space, I really felt that humanity is an indivisible community with a shared future," he said.

One of the three astronauts who arrived at the Tiangong space station with the Shenzhou 23 craft is set to stay for a year. Tiangong means “Heavenly Palace" in Chinese.

The astronauts are Zhu Yangzhu, the commander, Zhang Zhiyuan and Lai Ka-ying, also identified by Chinese authorities as Li Jiaying, using the Mandarin transliteration of her name.

Lai, who was born and raised in Hong Kong, is the first astronaut from the city on a space mission.

As China steps up its space program, its astronauts have carried out multiple missions to the Tiangong space station, developed after China was effectively excluded from the International Space Station on U.S. concerns over national security.

The U.S. is seen as China’s top space rival, with NASA aiming to land astronauts on the lunar surface in 2028.

Romania’s Defense Ministry claimed that the UAV which injured two people in the city of Galati came from Russia

A drone crashed into an apartment block in eastern Romania near the Ukrainian border on Friday, injuring two people, emergency services said.

According to the regional emergency services department, a drone carrying explosives struck the 10th floor of the building, sparking a fire. Around 70 residents were evacuated.

Catalin Sion, a spokesman for the Galati emergency services, said two people were hospitalized with minor injuries, while two others were treated for panic attacks.

Firefighters, police officers, and a bomb squad are working at the scene.

A video posted on social media purports to show the moment of the strike.

The Romanian Defense Ministry later released a statement claiming that the drone originated from Russia and was involved in strikes in Ukraine. Moscow has not yet commented on the matter.

Romania has repeatedly accused Russia of violating its airspace with drones. During the most recent incident in April, Romanian officials said a UAV damaged a house and an electrical pole near Galati.

Moscow denied the allegations, arguing that there is no definitive proof that the drones were Russian.

Several suspected Ukrainian drones have veered into the airspace of the Baltic states in recent months. On May 7, a UAV damaged four empty oil storage tanks in eastern Latvia near the Russian border.

Moscow has accused the Baltic states of allowing Ukraine to use their airspace to conduct strikes deep inside Russia, which the NATO members have denied.

Side effects were predominantly mild and manageable, reported in 25.4% of patients (primarily gastrointestinal), with 93.6% of those experiencing side effects continuing treatment after minor dosing adjustments.

This groundbreaking peer-reviewed publication was made possible through a unique collaboration between The Wellness Company, the McCullough Foundation, and the Chairman of the President’s Cancer Panel—uniting real-world clinical data, frontline medical experience, and epidemiologic expertise to evaluate inexpensive, repurposed therapies with major translational potential.

With these extraordinarily promising results, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials are now required.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military to occupy 70% of Gaza, in violation of the US-brokered ceasefire deal between West Jerusalem and Hamas, which allows Israel to control no more than 53% of the enclave.

The 2025 agreement, backed by a UN Security Council resolution, envisioned a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in exchange for Hamas disarming and relinquishing control of the territory. Instead, sporadic fighting has continued, with Israeli forces steadily pushing deeper into the enclave.

”We now control 60% of the territory in the Strip. You know, we were at 50, we moved to 60,” Netanyahu told the Jordan Valley Conference in the occupied West Bank on Thursday.

“My directive is to move to… first of all 70%. Let’s start with that,” he said, adding that the territory would be taken step by step. He did not say whether Israel ultimately intends to occupy all of Gaza.

Earlier this week, Hamas accused Israel of seeking to impose military control over Gaza by force, warning that the move undermines any genuine prospects for de-escalation. Israeli military officials allegedly attempted to halt a Catholic Marian festival in honor of the Virgin Mary in a Christian village located in the West Bank on Friday, sources say.

Jason Jones, founder and president of the Vulnerable People Project (VPP), told the Daily Caller that VPP had witnessed an Israeli military vehicle enter the village of Taybeh in the early morning and order organizers preparing for the festival to leave the area.

“A permitted Catholic festival honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary was nearly shut down by armed military intervention before it even began,” Jones said.

VPP told the Caller that it had been stationed in Taybeh to document the festival as part of its Save West Bank Christians Campaign, following concerns that the annual celebration may have been the target of Israeli settlers encroaching on the Christian village.

Approximately 30 minutes later, another military vehicle appeared and delivered the same orders, VPP told the Caller.

The parish priest overseeing the festival, Fr. F, contacted church authorities immediately, until the matter reached Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.

According to VPP, Cardinal Pizzaballa was able to speak with Israeli authorities, eventually securing permission for the festival to proceed.

“Our fear this morning was that radical settlers would disrupt preparations for the Marian Festival. Instead, it was far more disturbing to watch the Israeli military intervene,” Lex Pouliot, manager of Middle East projects for the Vulnerable People Project and a witness to the military incursion, told the Caller through a VPP statement. “Hearing a stun grenade explode as Christians prepared for a permitted religious celebration brought into sharp focus the countless stories I have heard throughout my time in the West Bank. What I witnessed today should concern Christians around the world.”

Jones said the incident should alarm Christians around the world, adding that “the Christian community of Taybeh has endured escalating pressure for months, and today’s events demonstrate how fragile religious freedom has become in the very land where Christianity was born.”

After spending this week reviewing the Iranian war I am now convinced President Trump is on the edge of an historic victory. The real breakthrough for me came as I reviewed President Trump’s decisions and maneuvers not from the standpoint of American unilateralism but from the standpoint of the leader of a remarkable historic coalition, the largest coalition ever put together in the modern Middle East. Everyone understands that Israel is an important ally. What is little discussed is the depth of support from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region. It has to be sobering for the Iranian dictatorship to realize that it does not have a single ally willing to challenge the American naval blockade. Slowly, gradually, timidly, our European allies are lining up to help with the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. A great deal of President Trump’s maneuvers against Iran make sense once he is seen as a coalition leader and not just as a unilateral American President. I spent a lot of the last couple weeks reviewing kinetic options including wining the battle of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz and if necessary using the shocking and shattering level of force President Nixon and Secretary Kissinger used against Hanoi and Haiphong in Christmas 1972 (which both leaders believed convinced the North Vietnamese to agree to a truce and the freeing of American POWs). If this were a unilateral American campaign I could enthusiastically support a more aggressive kinetic campaign. However it is also clear it would shatter the coalition because our Arab allies are convinced Iran could still do enormous damage to their oil fields and infrastructure. Coalitions are inherently slower than unilateral campaigns. However coalitions ultimately bring vastly more power to the fight. I am as frustrated as everyone else by the pace of talking with the dictatorship but having reviewed the correlation of forces and the options available to the coalition on one side and the Iranian religiously motivated dictatorship on the other I am prepared to assert that President Trump’s coalition leadership (something almost none of his critics want to acknowledge) is within reach of an enormous historic victory. And if the Iranian dictatorship ultimately proves it is hopelessly committed to a suicidal position there will be plenty of time for a kinetic campaign of enormous power and effectiveness. I know what it costs to be on the receiving end of a partisan federal prosecution.I know what it costs in dollars: millions. It’s a recognition of something I and thousands of others have lived through. It’s also a measure ofreform for government agencies infested with corruption and weaponized ideology.

President Trump understands this better than anyone. The FBI raided his home.He faced down 88 baseless criminal charges. His tax records were leaked to the press. And he watched the weaponization of the DOJ against American citizens.

President Trump is owed restitution for the unlawful leak of his tax records.But instead of taking a settlement for himself, he wants those funds to be used to make whole other victims of injustice.

For victims of political prosecution, the process is the punishment, and the DOJ knows this. No one can stand up to the near-limitless resources of the U.S. government. Imagine the immense harm done to a small business owner,a parent framed as a domestic terrorist, or a jailed pro-life grandmother. This legal fund will begin to give them some justice and enable Americans to fight DOJ weaponization.

PresidentTrump called my case a baseless “witch hunt.”The government manufactured a case against me and let the real criminals walk free. The prosecutor in my case donated to a group called “Stop Republicans” and buried that donation from scrutiny within the ActBlue front site. He was aided by FBI and IRS agents who targeted me and lied to me. They wanted a trophy, so they picked a conservative Republican congressman from Nebraska who supported President Trump.This is not law enforcement. It’s weaponization. This is the kind of wrong that the legal fund is designed to right.

Establishmentcritics are smearing this as a payoff to political allies of the president. Butremember, the United States Senate recently voteditself access to $500,000 for members secretly surveilled by the government. American citizens deserve at least the same consideration as the senators who represent them. More consideration, in fact.

The fund could reimburse Americanswhose prosecutions were brought in bad faith, dropped, reversed, or pursued in ways that violated the equal application of the law. If a Democrat official was railroaded by a Republican prosecutor on flimsy grounds, the fund should make that person whole, too. I am pleased that Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said as much during his recent testimonybefore Congress.

I lost years I can’t get back. I can’t un-resign from Congress. I can’t un-spend the legal fees. I can’t make the trauma inflicted on my family a fiction. The same goes for anyone similarly targeted. No fund repairs that.

But a fund of this scale, backed by President Trump, says something the American system has needed to say for a long time:Neither the people who run the machinery of federal prosecution nor federal judges are above the citizens they prosecute; and when they cross the line,the country owes a debt to the people they injure.

I hope every American who has watched a neighbor, a colleague, or a stranger ground up by a wrongful prosecution understands what is actually being offered here —not a partisan favor, but the first serious attempt in a generation to put a price tag on what the weaponization of justice has cost real people.

The bill came due a long time ago. It is time to pay it.

The spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry, Esmail Baghaei, said in a telephone interview with Iranian state media on Fridaythat current negotiations were limited in scope and did not include “the nuclear issue.” In recent days, the sides have exchanged fire,and Mr. Trump has repeatedly threatened a return to full-scale war.

In his post, Mr. Trump signaled that a deal would lead the United States to lift its naval blockade, which had targeted Iranian ships and ports, to allow the crucial waterway for oil and gas shipping to reopen. “Ships caught in the Strait due to our amazing and unprecedented Naval Blockade, which will now be lifted,may startthe process of ‘heading home!’” he wrote.

U.S. officials said on Thursday that a proposed dealwould extend the cease-fire to pave the way to more talks on Iran’s nuclear program. The officials,who were not authorized to speakpublicly, were granted anonymity to discuss the U.S. view of the current negotiations.

Several alarming videos have been released by voters in Jefferson County, taken on May 19 during and after the primary election.

One video appears to show a poll worker carrying a ballot out the front door of the polling place and handing it to an individual waiting in the passenger side of a vehicle.

While the voter was casting his ballot, two separate individuals, including one wearing a T-shirt for State Rep. Patrick Sellers (D-Birmingham), approached the voter seated inside the vehicle and handed him voter guides.

At another point, a poll worker is heard talking to the voter as the voter fills out his ballot. Part of the ballot can be seen in the video as the poll worker walks away from the vehicle with it.

The video does not show her checking his identification, nor does it show what happens to the ballot following the interaction. "I have always advocated against curbside voting, a practice that has caused some of the rampant chaos we see during election times in blue states.

For this reason, during my time as a Legislator, I carried HB 285- a bill prohibiting unauthorized curbside voting practices and strengthening election integrity protections.

Because of that legislation, Alabama law now specifically prohibits the use of voting machines outside enclosed polling places and restricting the removal of ballots or voting equipment except as otherwise authorized by law," Secretary of State Wes Allen said in a written statement to 1819 News.

"The allegations and videos circulating out of Jefferson County are very concerning.

Any credible allegations involving improper ballot handling or violations of Alabama election law are taken seriously," he continued.A second video shows a confrontation between an unknown party and poll workers behind the front doors of the polling place, as they allege that voting machines were improperly moved before being secured and ask for an explanation.

A city worker then comes and claims that no votes were cast in the machine. Mara Ruffin Blackmon a candidate a candidate for the State House district 57filed suit against Jefferson County Probate Judge Yashiba Blanchard and Sellers. Blackmon is asking thecourt to "ensure the integrity and reliability of election accountingthrough independent review and verification."

According to the Secretary of State's office, their office lacks investigative or prosecutorial authority under the law. The office said it would refer any allegations of potential criminal misconduct to an appropriate law enforcement agency.

The office also said,"It is the policy of the Secretary of State's Office to not publicly comment on specific complaints filed with the Office, including confirming or denying the existence of a complaint."

New bipartisan legislation aimed at limiting Chinese involvement in the U.S. auto market may sweep in Mercedes-Benz unless the bill is changed or the German automaker’s largest shareholder sells its stake.

The bill, the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act of 2026,would prohibit automakers that have “any direct or indirect equity interest by a foreign-adversary government,” such as China, from importing, selling or manufacturing vehicles for sale in the U.S.

Mercedes-Benz’s largest individual shareholder is the state-owned Chinese automaker BAIC, formerly the Beijing Automotive Industrial Corp., with a 9.98% share. The potential implications of the legislation on the automaker are previously unreported.

Several people familiar with the legislation who spoke to CNBC cited gray areas in the bill that, depending on how they’re interpreted, could ban Mercedes-Benz from operating in the U.S.

Two sources who agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity for fear of repercussions or because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly said they believe the bill, as it’s currently written, would ban the company.

“The language is unambiguous,” said a former automotive policy advisor and lobbyist who was consulted about the bill.

Daniel Kelly, press secretary for the Energy and Commerce Committee, confirmed the details of the legislation. He declined to comment directly on potential impacts for individual companies, including Mercedes-Benz.

As soon as we flagged an unnamed federal judge having sex in chambers as part of an extramarital affair with a “high ranking law enforcement officer,” everyone asked the immediate follow-up, “how is a federal judge unable to afford a hotel room?” Followed soon after by, “who is the anonymous judge?” Because despite the severity of the allegations — an affair that raised serious blackmail risks, attending openly partisan events, and lying to investigators when caught — the Eleventh Circuit and the Judicial Conference both concealed the judge’s identity. They even adjusted the very minor sanction to allow the judge “to word the letters of apology vaguely so as to ensure that a letter could not be ‘used against [the Subject Judge] in some way.’”

Within 45 minutes of publishing our article, we worked out with a very high degree of confidence that it was Judge Eleanor Ross of the Northern District of Georgia. That said, we didn’t have a source with first-hand knowledge to confirm the story. While we made coy allusions, we were not prepared to publish this without more.

Bloomberg Law News has just confirmed with a source directly familiar with the investigation that it is Judge Ross.

The Eleventh Circuit thought it had been so clever in anonymizing its report. The reports don’t include a name or a district, and refer only to “Subject Judge” throughout. The reports even assiduously avoid identifying the judge by gender, proving that even conservative judges can figure out how pronouns work with minimal effort. And yet the reports failed to obscure a number of details that made working out the judge’s identity possible. This is where the story is going to pivot and we’re going to talk about AI and how the federal courts are not ready for it.

As soon as I read the reports, I zeroed in on a footnote revealing that the district judge involved hired clerks for two-year staggered terms. That’s not the norm and narrowed down the possible judges out of the gate. But as I tried to scour OSCAR, former Above the Law columnist Stephanie Wilkins reached out to remind me that we live in 2026 and AI exists. Handing the reports into two different AI models and turning on all the “deep research” modes, the bots churned for several minutes comparing the reports to publicly available information. Both models delivered lengthy reports reaching the same conclusion. So how did these models do it?

In addition to the two-year clerk fact, the models instantly filtered out the entire state of Florida. The official reports are littered with references, in varying contexts, to the office of “District Attorney.” Florida uses “State Attorneys” for its local prosecutors. After that, the bots noted that the sanction barred the judge from ever serving as chief judge of their district — meaning the judge was not senior status and not currently the chief judge. The report indicates that investigators spoke with clerks dating back to 2020, disqualifying anyone elevated after that. Discussing the judge attending a DA’s primary victory party, the bot pointed out that the judge had claimed to know the candidate based on their time at the office, narrowing the scope to judges with state prosecutorial experience who overlapped with a sitting DA who won a primary. And had martinis at the victory party. The AI models decided that matched with Atlanta’s Fani Willis.

Once it narrowed the list down, the bot also searched the dockets of possible judges to match the claim in the reports that the high-ranking law enforcement officer did not materialize into a conflict because no cases involving that police department showed up on the judge’s docket.

For good measure, the bot went ahead and took a guess at the officer’s identity too.

In about 10 minutes of work, the AI unraveled all the work these judges put in to keep this confidential. With nothing but a couple of published court documents and the open web. In the time someone might brew a cup of coffee, the most basic possible workflow defeated the Eleventh Circuit’s entire anonymization strategy.

Global betting revenue for the upcoming World Cup is likely to be "in excess of $50 billion", betting expert Darren Small told AFP, for an event he labelled "the biggest circus in town."

The revenue will be significantly higher than the 2022 edition, partly because the quadrennial football fiesta has been enlarged to 48 teams from the 32 in Qatar.

Another factor according to Small, Managing Director of Managed Trading Services at Sportradar, is punters have become more "interested in the celebrity of a player" than in the old days of betting simply on a team.

Sportradar Group AG is a global sports technology company that says it creates immersive experiences for sports fans and bettors.

"We expect a lot of interest around the player props and what we call bet builders or custom bet options," Small told AFP in an interview.

"So we're anticipating that that's going to be a big drive for us. We're going to see a lot more interest on that.

"So players scoring left foot, right foot, number of passes, tackles, whatever the numbers are.

"Then subsequently the customers taking that and building out narratives like stories of 'I think this game will be X team to win with both teams to score, player X scoring with his head and there being 15 corners'."

"The sheer size and scale of this tournament will ensure it is the biggest betting event ever," David Stevens, head of Public Relations at English bookmaker Coral, told AFP.

Stevens said Bet Builder was "one of the fastest growing areas of our business" which sates the appetite of a "new, younger customer base" who are looking "for more dynamic betting opportunities."

Small said most money in bets already placed with Sportradar's 250 sports books clients across the globe has gone on Argentina and France.

However, Stevens said there remains a considerable number of people hoping England end a 60-year wait for a second World Cup.

"They are in fact third favourites, behind only France and Spain, and should Thomas Tuchel end 60 years of hurt, we bookmakers will be facing a significant payout," he said.

"However, the increasingly global nature of our business means an England victory would not be as costly as it would have been a decade ago, for example."

- 'Peculiar not sinister' -

With regard to the individual stars, great interest surrounds the Golden Boot for top scorer with French star Kylian Mbappe and Norway's hitman Erling Haaland attracting a lot of money.

"In excess of 20 percent of our volume and our tickets... have been struck on Haaland so far," said Small.

However, Small is more intrigued by another name that features for the moment in the top 10 of potential top scorers thanks to bets placed.

It is fair to say that Port Vale who have just been relegated to the fourth tier of the English league have not had many players represent them at a World Cup finals.

However, the club's New Zealand striker Ben Waine is the one where the money is being placed.

"We've seen a bit of a run on New Zealand's centre forward into the top 10 of the betting for the World Cup," said Small.

"It's really strange, as in peculiar not sinister."

Both Small and Stevens agree the geographical spread of the matches at a tournament being co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico does present problems.

"The only challenge that we have is obviously times, from the European audience perspective," said Small.

"The West Coast games will put a bit of pressure on that because they're going to be difficult to follow for the people that are trying to follow from Europe.

"But we've also got a very active South American region now with Brazil and others."

There has been little interest in a US win but should they cause a huge upset then their captain might face competition from President Donald Trump as to who holds the trophy aloft.

"Should the USA defy odds of 40-1 and lift the trophy, expect very short odds about the President being at the centre of the celebrations!" said Stevens.

Several alarming videos have been released by voters in Jefferson County, taken on May 19 during and after the primary election.

One video appears to show a poll worker carrying a ballot out the front door of the polling place and handing it to an individual waiting in the passenger side of a vehicle.

While the voter was casting his ballot, two separate individuals, including one wearing a T-shirt for State Rep. Patrick Sellers (D-Birmingham), approached the voter seated inside the vehicle and handed him voter guides.

At another point, a poll worker is heard talking to the voter as the voter fills out his ballot. Part of the ballot can be seen in the video as the poll worker walks away from the vehicle with it.

The video does not show her checking his identification, nor does it show what happens to the ballot following the interaction.

"I have always advocated against curbside voting, a practice that has caused some of the rampant chaos we see during election times in blue states. For this reason, during my time as a Legislator, I carried HB 285- a bill prohibiting unauthorized curbside voting practices and strengthening election integrity protections. Because of that legislation, Alabama law now specifically prohibits the use of voting machines outside enclosed polling places and restricting the removal of ballots or voting equipment except as otherwise authorized by law," Secretary of State Wes Allen said in a written statement to 1819 News.

"The allegations and videos circulating out of Jefferson County are very concerning. Any credible allegations involving improper ballot handling or violations of Alabama election law are taken seriously," he continued.

A second video shows a confrontation between an unknown party and poll workers behind the front doors of the polling place, as they allege that voting machines were improperly moved before being secured and ask for an explanation. A city worker then comes and claims that no votes were cast in the machine.

Mara Ruffin Blackmon a candidate a candidate for the State House district 57 filed suit against Jefferson County Probate Judge Yashiba Blanchard and Sellers.

Blackmon is asking the court to "ensure the integrity and reliability of election accounting through independent review and verification."

According to the Secretary of State's office, their office lacks investigative or prosecutorial authority under the law.

The office said it would refer any allegations of potential criminal misconduct to an appropriate law enforcement agency.

The office also said, "It is the policy of the Secretary of State's Office to not publicly comment on specific complaints filed with the Office, including confirming or denying the existence of a complaint."

In August 2025, Burkina Faso suspended and terminated the Target Malaria project, a research initiative funded by the Gates Foundation and Open Philanthropy, which began in the country in 2012 as part of a broader international effort to use gene-based technology in disease control.

The military-led government, headed by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, ordered the immediate halt of all activities involving genetically modified mosquitoes aimed at eradicating malaria, citing biosafety risks, low impact and scientific sovereignty.

The government cited the need to prioritise public health and environmental safety over the controversial biotechnology, stating that all remaining mosquito samples would be destroyed.

Buried in the House's version of the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) released on Tuesday, is section 224, entitled “United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative.”

The provision would arguably do more to intertwine the U.S. military with the Israeli military than the more than $200 billion (inflation adjusted) in military assistance Israel has received from the U.S. since its founding in 1948.

Section 224 lays the groundwork for bilateral research and development, co-production of weapons, joint ventures, licensing agreements, and seemingly every manner of U.S.-Israeli military-industrial complex cooperation.

The U.S. and Israel already work together heavily on missile defense, but this provision would greatly expand coordination to seemingly EVERY AREA of defense tech, including AI, quantum, autonomous systems, directed energy, cyber, biotech, and many more.

US War Secretary Pete Hegseth said thenaval blockade on Iran remains in place and warned Tehran that Washington is ready to use military force again if diplomacy failsto produce a deal preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

“The blockade is very much still in place,” Hegseth said in Singapore, adding that the Strait of Hormuz had come up repeatedly in talks with US partners.

He said any eventual outcome, whether through agreement or continued pressure,must leave the Strait of Hormuz open and free of tolls.

“Once a deal is had or not, depending on the choice they make, it will be an open strait, a toll-free strait that the entire world can use, which is the way that it should be,” Hegseth said.

Hegseth said Iran claims to control the waterway, but argued that US military pressure had shaped the negotiating dynamics.

“They want to say that they control the Strait, but we do,” he said. “Everything behind the scenes shows that we are in control when it comes to that, including how the dynamics of the negotiation are coming together.”

On the nuclear talks, Hegseth said President Donald Trump’s position had not changed and that any deal must ensure Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon.

“The goalposts haven’t shifted at all,” he said, adding that Iran knew “very, very clearly” what Washington expected from the negotiations.

“We think we’re in a good place to make that deal,” Hegseth said. “Or they can deal with the War Department. And we are prepared. We’re postured even stronger today than we were on day one to address it that way if we have to.”

Hegseth also said the United States remained focused on strengthening its defense industrial base, including production of air defense missiles, Tomahawks and other munitions, while investing in drone capabilities.

In fact, tonight's micromoon will be the farthest, smallest, and dimmest Moon this year. But tonight's micromoon is notable for yet another reason: it is also a blue moon, meaning that it is the second full moon in the same month (moon-th). A family-run financial network accused of laundering money for Iran’s Revolutionary Guards =•has been operating from London and moving funds through shell companies in China and the UAE, according to sanctions records== and leaked documents reviewed by Iran International.

On May 11, the British government sanctioned four members of the Zaringhalam family forlinks to individuals whose activities contribute to instability in the United Kingdom. At least three of them are believed to reside in London.

One of the sanctioned individuals is Farhad Zaringhalam, 44, a specialist in wireless communications and financial technology who earned both his bachelor’s degree and PhD in electronics from King’s College London.

A former Nokia employee who holds British citizenship,he serves on the board of Pergas Petro Trade Group in Iran and manages a company in Singapore. An address registered under his name belongs to a company in Dubai’s Sama Tower, both of which have been sanctioned by the United States for laundering money for the IRGC.

Farhad did not respond to Iran International’s requests for comment buttold the Daily Mail he would challenge the British government’s decision.

The widerZaringhalam family has long been linked to sanctions evasion and financial networksserving the Islamic Republic.

Nasser Zaringhalam, 66, owns Berelian Exchange. Three years ago, Iran International published exclusive footage of conversations inside his exchange office in which he explicitly referred to circumventing sanctions.

In June 2025, theUS Treasury Department sanctioned both Nasserand hisexchange house for involvement in terrorism financing.

Documents published by WikiIran show thatNasser and his exchange office registered at least 37 shell companies in the UAE and Chinaand maintained more than 140 bank accounts there to evade sanctions.

One document shows him asking Zagros Petrochemical Company to transfer €3 millionto Fanzhian International, a shell company in China. The transaction was processed through Zhishank Bank.

The principal shareholder ofZagros Petrochemical Company is Parsian Oil and Gas Group, which belongs to Ghadir Investment Company, the holding company of the Armed Forces Social Security Organization.

Another leaked document reviewed by Iran International indicates that Nasser Zaringhalam laundered money for Shiraz Petrochemical Company through Moderate General Trading, his UAE-basedexchange house, which is also under US sanctions. The principal shareholder of Shiraz Petrochemical is likewise the Armed Forces Social Security Organization.

A separate document showsmore than €890,000 transferred through a shell companyinto a bank accountin China before the funds were moved onward to Germany.

According to available records, Nasser Zaringhalamholds citizenship from Saint Kitts and owns a house in Finchley, a district in North London with a large Iranian population.

Britain has also sanctioned Nasser’s son, Pouria Zaringhalam, 29, who holds both British and Saint Kitts citizenship. According to municipal registration records, he has lived in properties in Finchley and Canary Wharf in recent years. In Iran, he serves on the board of Mehr Shabestan Mazandaran Company.

Another sanctioned family member, Mansour Zaringhalam, 63, owns Mansour Zaringhalam & Partners Company, also known as GCM Exchange. The United States sanctioned him and his exchange office last year for financing the IRGC.

One leaked document shows Mansour delivering funds belonging to Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company in cash after laundering the money and transferring it back to Iran.

Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company, Iran’s second-largest company by revenue, has been sanctioned for financing the IRGC Quds Force and is a major economic arm linked to the IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters.

In a contract reviewed by Iran International, Mansour committed himself to creating “a suitable financial structure” for transferring money and receiving foreign currency payments. Another clause stated that he would reduce transfer risks by establishing such a network “while observing security principles.”

Britain also sanctioned Fazlollah Zaringhalam, 74, brother of Nasser and Mansour. Fazlollah, who also holds British citizenship,owns Zaringhalam & Partners Exchange and resides in London, according to the British Treasury.

Eight years ago, one of Fazlollah’s sons, Farshad, who owned an exchange office in Tehran, was sentenced to ten years in prison for disrupting Iran’s foreign exchange system. Another son, Behzad, owns an exchange office in Tehran’s Saadat Abad district.

In Tehran, however, the network’s operations appear to be coordinated in part by Mitra Zaringhalam, sister of the Zaringhalam brothers. The 53-year-old owns Zarin Tehran Investment Company. Both she and her company have been sanctioned by the United States for financing terrorism.

The sanctions come amid heightened scrutiny of Iranian-linked activity in Britain following a string of incidents in North London targeting Jewish sites and media organizations opposed to the Islamic Republic.

The group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya, which is close to the Iranian government, has claimed responsibility on social media for some of the attacks.

NASA Hosts SpaceX Crew-11 Astronauts for Public Event at Headquarters

NASA will host a public event featuring three crew members from the agency’s SpaceX Crew-11 mission at 11 a.m. EDT Monday, June 1.

The event, which takes place during the crew’s standard postflight visit, will be held in the Webb Auditorium at NASA Headquarters in the Mary W. Jackson building, 300 E. Street SW in Washington.

The crew members, including NASA astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Kimiya Yui, will discuss their recent 167-day mission aboard the International Space Station, where they conducted a wide range of science experiments to benefit life on Earth and advance human space exploration as part of International Space Station Expedition 73/74.

The Crew-11 mission lifted off on Aug.1, 2025, from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The crew’s SpaceX Dragon spacecraft docked to the orbital outpost on Aug. 2.

During their mission, the three astronauts, along with crewmate Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Platonov, traveled nearly 71 million miles and completed more than 2,670 orbits around Earth.

The Crew-11 mission was Fincke’s fourth spaceflight, Yui’s second, and the first for Cardman and Platonov. Fincke has logged 549 days in space, ranking him fourth among all NASA astronauts for cumulative days in space.

The crew members returned to Earth on Jan. 15, splashing down off the coast of San Diego.

Along the way, Crew-11 logged hundreds of hours of research, maintenance, and technology demonstrations.

The crew members also celebrated the 25th anniversary of continuous human presence aboard the orbiting laboratory on Nov. 2, 2025.

Research conducted aboard the space station advances scientific knowledge and demonstrates new technologies that enable us to prepare for human exploration of the Moon and Mars.

Another failure-to-slow/stop when approaching slowed traffic by non-English-speaking driver resulting in 5 American deaths and 44 hospitalized injuries.

You don't have to speak English to see traffic bunching up, red brake tail lights, and other traffic congestion and slowing.

Why do so many of these "large vehicles" slamming into stopped or slowed traffic involve non-English speakers?

Do they just go into "No speak English" as a defense because it gets them by when they don't want to engage in other settiings?

Do only the crashes involving non-English-speakers make headlines?

No doubt, drivers on U.S. roads need to prove English proficiency to be properly licensed for safety.

But not speaking English does not excuse not having driver awareness of the status of the roadway ahead of you - especially here, as a commercial bus driver with souls onboard under his/her responsibility - as well as the safety of others on the road.
