She was charged with domestic terrorism and aggravated assault of an officer, and was previously arrested during an anti-ICE demonstration at the Bergen County Jail in 2021.

Her father, James Shen, 58, is the president of publisher WiCON – which owns Pharma Chinaand brags about its links to the 'most multinational pharma companies' across China.

He claims to come from a 'family with generations of ties with the pharmaceutical industry in China' and described himself as a 'strategist, advisor and publisher' specializing in China Healthcare.

Shen herself appears to have followed in her father's footsteps initially, interning at both Reuters and CNN – with the latter refusing to report n the clashes after the 'conflict of interest' was revealed.

She grew up in the three-bedroom $810k family home in Princetown, New Jersey, before moving to a one bed $500k Brooklyn apartment.

Her mother Xiao-Hua Shen was one of the first group of university scholarship students sent by the Chinese Government to study in the UK at Exeter University.

The 63-year-old is available to speak at events, and calls herself a 'Global Diversity Expert' who has an 'in-depth knowledge' of how to do 'successful business in China.'

She also worked as a trainer and consultant in London, for Lloyds of London and the British Foreign Office.

Her website claims while at the foreign government she taught diplomats about the Chinese language and culture – to prepare for negotiation with China.

Xiao-Hua holds both an MA from Exeter University, UK and a Master of Education from Columbia University.

Mr and Mrs Shen did not respond to a request for comment by DailyMail.com.

Studies show negative impacts due to the release of these aerosols and that they cause meteorological imbalances.

There is an international moratorium that remains in force against the deployment of geoengineering.

To prohibit and, where appropriate, stop experimentation practices with solar geoengineering in the country, the Government of Mexico, through inter-institutional coordination between the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) and the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt), will carry out actions attached to the precautionary principle to protect communities and environmental environments.

The United Nations (UN) Convention on Biological Diversity, to which Mexico is a party, established in 2010 a moratorium that is still in force against the deployment of geoengineering.

The opposition to these climatic manipulations is based on the fact that there are currently no international agreements that address or supervise solar geoengineering activities, which represent an economically advantageous way out for a minority and risky for the supposed remediation of climate change.

For this reason, Semarnat will implement a strategy that prohibits these practices within the national territory, which will serve to strengthen the first references worldwide. Under the precautionary principle and the bases established in the Montreal Protocol, which promotes the protection of the ozone layer and the fight against climate change, any large-scale practice with solar geoengineering in its territory will be stopped, which presumes to be technologies of large scale, but are still under development.

Recently in the state of Baja California Sur, the Startup Make Sunsets carried out technical experiments of this type, launching meteorological balloons with sulfur dioxide, without prior notice and without the consent of the Government of Mexico and the surrounding communities. In the blog of the Make Sunsets website, the company reports that it does not know the results of the experiment, since the balloons were not monitored or recovered.

Dmitry Medvedev revealed his view of what caused the Ukraine conflict and his country’s international priorities

US plans threatened WWIII – ex-Russian president

The US and its allies almost ignited a third world war by preparing to attack Russia, which had no choice but to do something about it, former president Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday. He was addressing the leadership of the ruling United Russia party in Moscow.

“Our party should help the people around the world understand that theongoing special operation was a forced and last-resortresponse to preparations for aggression by the US and its satellites,” Medvedev said.

“It is obvious that the world came close to the threat of WWIII because of what was happening,” he added.

Medvedev also described a “serious crisis” at the UN and other international institutions, which were created to resolve international disputes but have been turned into a battlefield by the West instead.

“Our opponents are trying to enlist as many votes as possible in support of their anti-Russian initiatives, using underhanded means such as economic pressure, extortion and political bribery,” Medvedev said, adding that the main mission of Russian diplomacy remained countering this “cynical line” by the West.

Medvedev was president of Russia between 2008 and 2012, after which he became the chairman of the ruling party and prime minister. He stepped down as PM in 2020 to run the national security council.

Though the West considered him a “liberal” during his presidency, Medvedev has been blunt and outspoken about the special military operation in Ukraine since it was launched in February 2022. Just last week, he ridiculed the World Economic Forum in Davos and warned the West that the current conflict is existential in nature for Russia, which should be kept in mind when it comes to nuclear weapons and their possible use.

Russia sent troops into Ukraine in February 2022, citing Kiev’s failure to implement the Minsk agreements, designed to give the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk special status within the Ukrainian state. The protocols, brokered by Germany and France, were first signed in 2014. Former Ukrainian president Pyotr Poroshenko has since admitted that Kiev’s main goal was to use the ceasefire to buy time and “create powerful armed forces.”

The Kremlin recognized the Donbass republics as independent states and demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join any Western military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked.

The rise in “deaths of despair” among middle-aged white Americans may be linked to the decline in religious practice, according to new research.

Such an increase in deaths has also been highlighted by the opioid crisis, but new research argues skyrocketing suicide and deaths from alcohol abuse might be rooted in the loss of religion.

The paper, circulated by the National Bureau of Economic Research, found that the increase of “deaths of despair” among middle-aged white Americans starting in the early 1990s was the aftermath of a declining religiosity in the United States by the same group.

Authors Tyler Giles, Daniel Hungerman, and Tamar Oostrom “confirm that religious practice has significant effects on these mortality rates.”

“Our findings show that social factors such as organized religion can play an important role in understanding deaths of despair,” they write.

The group of economists looked at the impact of “blue laws” across the country, and how the increased repeal of such laws are quickly followed by a loss in church attendance and an increased secularization.

Although some have argued that blue laws — which restrict various kinds of commerce on Sabbath days (mostly Sundays in America) — get repealed following a secularization of a community, Giles, Hungerman, and Oostrom found that the trend is the reverse: secularization of a community actually follows the repeal of blue laws.

One of the more prominent blue laws is the sale of alcohol on Sabbath days, but the economists looked at blue laws not related to alcohol sales in order to get a full picture of their effects.

Since the blue law repeals and the aftermath starting in the 1990s, Giles and his colleagues found “the most religious states experienced the lowest mortality due to deaths of despair.”

By contrast, “states that had larger drops in religious attendance had larger increases in deaths of despair.”

When persons stop attending religious service, they are not only losing a connection to moral grounding or a relationship to God; they are also losing a sense of community.

In America, the church has always been the center of a community and civil society: friendships form; men and women meet, date, marry, and start families; and a sense of care and duty to your neighbor is cultivated.

As Breitbart News reported, religious practice is heavily linked to finding meaning in life, the happiest, most stable marriages, and personal and familial well-being.

In fact, studies show that individuals and families who practice religion both at home and in church achieve the highest levels of happiness and life satisfaction.

Belgrade is under pressure because the West wants to focus on Russia, says Aleksandar Vucic

Belgrade is facing pressure from the US, EU and NATO over Kosovo because of the conflict in Ukraine, which is likely to escalate soon, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told the nation on Monday evening. He said theWest was rewarding the ethnic Albanian authorities in the breakaway province for their campaignof violence against the Serbs.

Vucic spoke after meeting with the leadership of his ruling party, addressing the “proposal” by the West that demanded of Serbia to accept the breakaway province’s membership in international organizations – such as the UN, EU and NATO – or else. He said the document “hardly contains anything we would be happy about.”

The Serbian president explained that theEU is de facto at war in Ukraine, so it wants its “back yard” – including Serbia – to be brought to heel. His feeling, however, was that the conflict “won’t calm down, but will only spread.”

“You see it now, it’s not just Russia versus Ukraine. Soon it will spread to other territories. It is up to us that our country isn’t among them,” he said.

He lamented the unwillingness of the West to listen to reason, even after it was clear that all the recent incidents inKosovo were caused by the ethnic Albanian authoritiesin Pristina. Even when the EU acknowledged this, they kept rewarding Kosovo, accepting its membership application and granting it visa-free entry.

While Belgrade intends to defend its interests, Vucic said it will be difficult to stop Kosovo’s admission to the Council of Europe or NATO. The document does not require Belgrade to explicitly recognize Kosovo as independent, but implicitly demands Serbia not to oppose its UN membership, he explained.

If Serbia refuses, the EU will halt all integration processes, reimpose a visa regime, stop all new investments, and withdraw all the current ones, Vucic said. That would be worse than any sanctions, and he would prefer a compromise to “accepting everything right away,” he said.

“You know what it would mean for Serbia to be isolated in any way,” Vucic said, referring to the sanctions imposed in the 1990s during the Yugoslav Wars. He also noted that this is his last term as president, and he would not be loath to resign if that would mean protecting the country or buying time.

NATO troops took control of Kosovo in 1999, after nearly three months of bombing Serbia on behalf of ethnic Albanian insurgents. The province’s provisional government declared independence in 2008, but Belgrade has so far resisted US and EU pressure to recognize it, relying on support from Russia and China.

First up as the trial began in Madrid on Monday was the gang’s former leader, Frank Hanebuth, who according to Spanish prosecutors, was in charge of directing the other gang members to carry out crimes in popular tourist spots, especially the resort island of Mallorca from 2009 to 2013.

The Spanish daily 20 Minutos reported that the indictment listed prostitution and trafficking women as one of the gang’s primary sources of income.

During the police investigations, three Czech women declared they were taken to Spain from Italy with the promise of working as restaurant hostesses. Once they arrived, they were picked up at the airport and taken to a private club where they were forced to have sex with clients. Some of the women testified that they were locked up in dog cages "as punishment" if they protested.

Prosecutors also said the women were subjected to cosmetic surgery to "make them more productive and obtain greater profits from the activities they carry out."

The Hells Angels are also accused of creating a complex network of money laundering "through companies located in tax havens, where they send large amounts of cash through human couriers."

The trial is expected to last several weeks.

Spanish prosecutors are seeking a 13-year prison sentence for Hanebuth, a German citizen, on charges of membership in a criminal organization, money laundering and illegal possession of firearms, according to a 150-page indictment. They're also seeking a $4.5 million fine for the money laundering charge, reports Mallorcadiario.com.

Other leading members of the gang, noted the outlet, are facing charges of running a prostitution ring and drug trafficking and could face up to 38 years in prison.

Sgt. Paul Parizek, a spokesman for Des Moines police, said an adult employee at the nonprofit was wounded and was in serious condition.

The two casualties were found alive, but later died in hospital.

Officers said the victims were targeted and that 'there was nothing random' about the attack.

The deputy infrastructure minister has been fired, and the defense ministry is facing the heat over a military catering contract.

Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov — one of the most prominent faces of the war against Russia — is now under fire on the home front as investigations into government corruption rocked the country over the weekend.

Kyiv’s officials have been at pains over the course of the war to attempt to show that the nation is pulling together and cleaning up its act on corruption in a bid to chart a course toward the EU, so the revelations of two probes into top-level graft have come as a severe blow.

Three astronauts are apparently going to be away from their home planet for twice as long as originally planned.

NASA's Frank Rubio and cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitry Petelin launched toward the International Space Station (ISS) aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft on Sept. 21, 2022.

The trio was supposed to come home in March on that same Soyuz. But the vehicle, known as MS-22, lost all of its coolant after an apparent micrometeoroid strike last month, rendering it unfit to carry astronauts except in the event of an emergency. So Russia's federal space agency Roscosmos has decided to launch an uncrewed Soyuz to the orbiting lab on Feb. 20 to bring Rubio, Prokopyev and Petelin back to Earth.

However, that next Soyuz will stay docked at the ISS until its successor — a vehicle that will carry crew — is ready to go. That will likely be a while, so Rubio, Prokopyev and Petelin are getting a hefty mission extension.

"The plan is for Frank and Dimitri and Sergey to stay on board for several more months until they come home, probably [in] late September," Dina Contella, NASA's ISS operations integration manager, said during a press conference on Tuesday (Jan. 17).

"We're looking at the exact timing of that, but at this point, that would be when the vehicle would be planned to come home," she said.

If "late September" means sometime after Sept. 21, then the MS-22 crew will end up staying aloft for a full year — something no NASA astronaut has ever done, as Ars Technica's Eric Berger noted recently(opens in new tab).

A few have come close. For example, Mark Vande Hei lived aboard the station for 355 days between April 2021 and April 2022. Scott Kelly and cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko logged 340 days in space between March 2015 and March 2016, and Christina Koch was away from Earth for almost 329 days, from April 2019 to February 2020.

Of these missions, only that of Kelly and Kornienko was supposed to last so long. Their highly publicized "year in space" was designed to gather data about the effects of long-duration spaceflight on the human body, to aid planning for future crewed missions to Mars.

Vande Hei and Koch lived aboard the ISS longer than planned due to scheduling issues. Vande Hei's extension, for example, was necessitated by Russia's decision to launch filmmakers on the next Soyuz in line rather than a replacement astronaut crew.

But NASA biomedical personnel and mission planners are doubtless using the extra data generated during those unexpectedly long past flights — and they'll probably study Rubio, Prokopyev and Petelin with the same outlook and intensity.

Cosmonauts have lived off Earth for a full year continuously, by the way. Valery Polyakov holds the duration record for a single spaceflight, racking up 437 consecutive days(opens in new tab) aboard Russia's old Mir space station in 1994 and 1995.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is renewing his calls for stricter gun control measures following the mass shooting at a dance hall in Monterey Park on Saturday that killed at least 11 people and injured nine others.

"Nothing about this is surprising. Everything about this is infuriating," he told "CBS Evening News" anchor and managing editor Norah O'Donnell on Monday. "The Second Amendment is becoming a suicide pact."

Newsom clarified that he has "no ideological opposition" against people who "responsibly" own guns and get background checks and training on how to use them.

But he told O'Donnell that current regulations are falling short.

Authorities say the suspected attacker, who later died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound as investigators closed in, used a modified pistol with a high-capacity magazine illegal in California, the state with the strictest gun laws in the U.S.

When asked how the gunman was able to get the weapon, Newsom responded "we will figure it out," adding, "That's going to happen. You got to enforce laws. Things fall through the cracks, but it doesn't mean you give up."

Newsom mentioned the role of mental health in mass shootings, but he singled out gun access as a factor exacerbating the problem.

"I'm really proud of the work we've done in this space, but we've had decades of neglect," he said. "But respectfully, I will submit that regardless of the challenges it relates to behavioral health, there's not a country in the world that doesn't experience behavioral health issues."

Soros called for Eastern Europeans to essentially be used as cannon fodder armed with NATO weapons, a prescient prediction given how the war in Ukraine has developed

As the war in Ukraine rages on, there is little doubt that the human cost has been enormous for Ukraine, including what is likely more than 100,000 soldiers who have died in combat operations. However, there was one man who predicted much of what has come to pass in the battle in the east of Europe: George Soros.

The billionaire oligarch financier, often portrayed as a humanist, promoted a hard-nosed geopolitical strategy in his 1993 piece entitled “Toward a New World Order: The Future of NATO.” In the piece, he outlines how Eastern Europeans could be used as the “manpower” in coming conflicts in an effort to reduce the number of deaths in Western countries, which Soros argues the West would not politically tolerate, unlike the east of Europe.

“The United States would not be called upon to act as the policeman of the world. When it acts, it would act in conjunction with others. Incidentally, the combination of manpower from Eastern Europe with the technical capabilities of NATO would greatly enhance the military potential of the Partnership because it would reduce the risk of body bags for NATO countries, which is the main constraint on their willingness to act. This is a viable alternative to the looming world disorder,” wrote Soros in the article.

Soros acknowledges that the NATO countries have no appetite for “body bags,” but his statement implicitly indicates that Eastern Europeans can fill this role.

What Soros described appears to be unfolding exactly as he predicted regarding the war in Ukraine. Armed with high-end NATO weapons, Ukrainian soldiers are actively countering Russia, which Soros had already feared would become a nationalist nation opposed to the global order he was promoting in 1993. The powerful Western countries have the necessary weapons, and Ukraine has the manpower. Given that Soros already saw the potential of what this symbiotic match could produce on the battlefield decades in advance will likely bolster his reputation as a calculating — and perhaps ruthless — strategic thinker.

As Soros predicted, Ukrainian society appears to be tolerating the high death toll in its current conflict with Russia. During the Vietnam War, the U.S. lost 58,220 over the course of approximately 10 years, and yet, the war saw strong opposition from the American public. Despite a far higher death toll in a far shorter period of time, Ukrainian society has seen little in terms of protests.

The lack of protest in Ukraine may also be helped by the fact that Ukraine has suspended most of civil society, banned opposition parties and media, and even outlawed the Russian Orthodox Church. Another key factor in society’s perspective on the conflict is that the war is taking place on Ukrainian soil, which is a highly motivating factor for Ukrainian soldiers.

All those Ukrainian bodies, of course, have come with a major price tag for Russia, with the country’s cemeteries also filling up as quickly or even more so. Exact figures on casualties for either side remain unofficial and are likely inexact, but the war is costing both nations dearly in terms of life.

In the same article, Soros called for a “new world order.” The term is often derided in establishment media as a conspiracy theory, but Soros openly uses it. In addition, in the piece, the new world order he calls for is remarkably globalist and centralized. In other words, exactly the type of new world order critics of his, such as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, have been warning about for over a decade.

“Therefore, the only basis for action is collective security. And that is where the problem lies. The collapse of the Soviet empire has created a collective security problem of the utmost gravity. Without a new world order, there will be disorder; that much is clear. But who will act as the world’s policeman? That is the question that needs to be answered,” Soros wrote.

Pentagon Planning GOP House Speaker McCarthy Visit To Taiwan This Spring

New House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is planning his own Taiwan trip later this year, following former speaker Nancy Pelosi's early August visit which had set off weeks of PLA military drills which encircled the self-ruled island, including repeat breaches of the Taiwan Strait median line.

Fox News reported that the Pentagon is aware and busy making preparations. "The US military is drafting plans to ensure safety on a trip to Taiwan later this year," Fox reported.

Punchbowl News was the first to report the trip earlier in the day Monday, and said the US military is in the "early stages" of laying the logistical groundwork.

"McCarthy expressed support for Pelosi’s trip at the time and said he’d also travel to Taiwan if elected speaker," Punchbowl wrote. "And just recently, McCarthy touted the House’s vote to establish a select committee on China, which received significant Democratic support."

An official involved in the preparations indicated it's expected to take place at some point in the spring. Pelosi's visit had been teased for months as a possibility but was only made public when she was already en route and about to touch down in Taipei on August 2nd, accompanied by a delegation of five Democratic Party members. They flew out the next day after meeting with top officials including President Tsai Ing-wen.

China is already signaling severe opposition to another such ultra-provocative visit by a sitting US house speaker, an office third in line from the presidency after the vice president.

For example, state-run Global Times addressed earlier stirrings last week when rumors of McCarthy's trip began to surface:

"If McCarthy does visit Taiwan in 2023," a GT article began, "China-U.S. relations will witness another shock comparable to or even worse than that in August 2022 when Pelosi visited Taiwan."

McCarthy, long an advocate of getting 'tougher' on China, hopes to lead the House-led GOP toward putting greater scrutiny on Beijing and making the US economic and military rival a top foreign policy priority.

Abstract

Scaffold-based approaches for bone regeneration have been studied using a wide range of biomaterials as reinforcing agents to improve the mechanical strength and bioactivity of the 3D constructs. Eggshells are sustainable and inexpensive materials with unique biological and chemical properties to support bone differentiation. The incorporation of eggshell particles within hydrogels yields highly osteoinductive and osteoconductive scaffolds. This study reveals the effects of microparticles of whole eggshells, eggshells without a membrane, and a pristine eggshell membrane on osteogenic differentiation in protein-derived hydrogels. The in vitro studies showed that gels reinforced with eggshells with and without a membrane demonstrated comparable cellular proliferation, osteogenic gene expression, and osteogenic differentiation. Subsequently, in vivo studies were performed to implant eggshell microparticle-reinforced composite hydrogel scaffolds into critical-sized cranial defects in Sprague Dawley (SD) rats for up to 12 weeks to study bone regeneration. The in vivo results showed that the eggshell microparticle-based scaffolds supported an average bone volume of 60 mm3 and a bone density of 2000 HU 12 weeks post implantation. Furthermore, histological analyses of the explanted scaffolds showed that the eggshell microparticle-reinforced scaffolds permitted tissue infiltration and induced bone tissue formation over 12 weeks. The histology staining also indicated that these scaffolds induced significantly higher bone regeneration at 6 and 12 weeks as compared to the blank (no scaffold) and pristine gel scaffolds. The eggshell microparticle-reinforced scaffolds also supported significantly higher bone formation, remodeling, and vascularization over 6 and 12 weeks as confirmed by immunohistochemistry analysis. Collectively, our results indicated that eggshell microparticle-reinforced scaffolds facilitated significant bone regeneration in critical-sized cranial defects.

The US military is probing nine blood cancer cases among officers who worked decades ago atMalmstrom Air Force Base, a major nuclear missile site in the state of Montana. The investigation was first reported by AP on Monday and confirmed by Pentagon officials.

All of the afflicted officers had been serving at the silos of the base, home to some 150 Minuteman III nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles, as many as 25 years ago. The diagnosis in each case wasnon-Hodgkin lymphoma, while one of the officers has succumbed to the illness.

“There are indications of a possible association between [this] cancer and missile combat crew service at Malmstrom AFB,”Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Sebeck said in the slides presented at a military briefing earlier in January and cited by the news agency.

“Missileers have always been concerned about known hazards, such as exposure to chemicals, asbestos, polychlorinated biphenyls, lead and other hazardous material in the work environment,” he stated.

The “disproportionate number of missileers presenting with cancer, specifically lymphoma”was particularly concerning, Sebeck added. The issue is important to the Space Force because as many as 455 former missileers are now serving with the Space Force, including four individuals diagnosed with lymphoma.

Wagner founder outlines his view on US hostility

The Russian firm is a "vice squad" pitted against American gangsters, Yevgeny Prigozhin told RT

The Wagner Group scares the US because it is willing to stand up to American bullying around the world, the private military company’s founder Yevgeny Prigozhin claimed on Monday, answering a question from RT.

Washington said last week that it would designate the Russian PMC as an international criminal organization, accusing it of “widespread atrocities and human rights abuses.”

“Unlike America’s paramilitary forces,”Prigozhin said in a written response to RT, “the Wagner PMC eliminates only enemies of peace and commits no crimes. Of course, if you employ double standards, you can dig up dirt on anyone."

The US is the only country to use nuclear weapons in history, and “organized wars and revolutions” in “Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Mozambique, Central Africa and so on,” Prigozhin noted, adding that in some of those countries Wagner came in and “put an end to these wars with an iron fist”

Calling the US “powerful crime syndicate, which lives on the money of the whole world,”Prigozhin said Wagner was “more like the vice police” by comparison.

Washington trained “outlaws and terrorists all over the world so that there would be trouble everywhere –” while the “dreamy blue island called the USA” lives in peace, he added. Used to people not fighting back or getting intimidated by name-calling, the Americans don’t know what to do with Wagner, which “looks into the eyes of the personification of global evil without fear.”

Prigozhin said the US objective is to break up Russia just as it did to the USSR, then take on China, in order to maintain its global hegemony.

The Wagner Group was originally established in 2014. Over the past year, its fighters have taken part in battles against the Ukrainian military in the Donbass. Earlier this month, the Russian Defense Ministry acknowledgedWagner’s role in capturing the key town of Soledar.

US authorities have accused the PMC of unspecified “human rights violations” in Syria and the Central African Republic, where Wagner helped the government against jihadist insurgents. Last month, the State Department declared Wagner an “entity of particular concern” for religious freedom in Africa, in the same category as Al-Qaeda and Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS).

Israel and US aim to send message with record military drill

Iran will take notice of the joint exercise, which is the largest ever held by the two countries, the Pentagon has claimed

The US and Israeli militaries began their largest-ever joint exercise on Monday, seeking to hone seamless coordination of their forces and prove a point to Iran about their readiness to fight a conflict in the Middle East even as Washington juggles rising tensions with Russia and China.

“I do think that this scale of the exercise is relevant to a whole range of scenarios, and Iran may draw certain inferences from that,” a senior US defense official told reporters. “It would not surprise me if Iran, you know, sees the scale and the nature of these activities and understands what the two of us are capable of doing.”

Dubbed Juniper Oak, the exercise will involve over 140 aircraft, including nuclear-capable bombers and F-35 fighter jets, as well as 12 warships and about 7,500 troops, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM). It’s designed to improve the “interoperability” of both forces.

“What we think this exercise demonstrates is, we can walk and chew gum at the same time,”the unidentified defense official told NBC News. Despite the Pentagon’s growing focus on China and its efforts to help Ukraine defeat Russian forces, he added, “We still have the excess capacity to be able to flex to another high-priority area of responsibility and conduct an exercise on this scale.”

Juniper Oak is an all-domain exercise, meaning it will include naval, land, air, space and electronic-warfare drills. It will run from Monday through Friday in Israel and the eastern Mediterranean Sea. The US will reportedly employ four HIMARS rocket launchers, laser-guided bombs and stealth cruise missiles. The event will culminate with the firing of 180,000 pounds of live munitions while simulating an electronic attack and suppressing enemy air defenses.

“This is a sign that we continue to have Israel’s back at a time when there’s lots of turbulence and instability across the region,” the defense official said. The source added, “If there’s a sense that Americans are distracted, or the Americans are going away from the Middle East, and therefore they have free rein for their malign activities, I think this will disabuse them.

“I suspect Iran will take note of that, but not only Iran. China will take note of that, Russia will take note of that, other folks will take note of that.”

Joe Biden stored top-secret files with the “sensitive compartmented information” (SCIF) designation at Penn Biden Center in DC (found on Nov. 2).

Lawyers discovered more classified documents at Joe Biden’s Delaware home – in the garage next to his Corvette (found on Dec. 20).

Additional documents stored in Biden’s library were discovered on January 12 and again on January 20.

Hunter Biden had access to the garage where Biden stored some of the classified documents.

The documents discovered at Biden’s private office and home are related to Ukraine, Iran, China and the United Kingdom.

According to emails uncovered from the “Laptop from Hell,” Hunter Biden sent his business partner Devon Archer a very detailed email on Ukraine on April 13, 2014 – just one week before Joe Biden visited Ukraine to meet with then-Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

It appears Hunter Biden was emailing Devon Archer information he received from a briefing from his father Joe Biden or directly from top-secret documents.

“A curiously well-informed email about Ukraine, Russia and the UK on Hunter Biden’s laptop is a thread that links the President’s classified documents scandal to the Delaware federal investigation into his son’s foreign business dealings.” – the New York Post’s Miranda Devine wrote.

One striking email during this period stands out. It was from Hunter to Archer on April 13, 2014, a week before Joe Biden visited Ukraine to meet then-Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and refers to “my guys upcoming travels.”

For Hunter, it was an uncharacteristically lengthy email, listing 22 points about Ukraine’s political situation, with detailed information about the upcoming election and predicting an escalation of Russia’s “destabilization campaign, which could lead to a full-scale takeover of the eastern region, most critically Donetsk.

“The strategic value is to create a land bridge for RU to Crimea. That won’t directly affect Burisma holdings but it will limit future UK exploration and utilization of offshore opportunities in particular,” Hunter wrote.

“It will also result in further destabilization of UK nationally and for whatever govt is in power. And the US will respond with even stronger sanctions. Those sanctions will threaten the tenuous support of the EU which does not have the political will to incur steep energy price increases.”

In point 22, Hunter instructed Archer to buy a “burner phone,” presumably to keep their conversations private. “Buy a cell phone from a 7/11 or CVS tmrw and ill do the same.”

It’s a prescient and very well-informed email, unlike anything else Hunter wrote in the nine years covered in the laptop, and it has the distinct flavor of an official briefing, perhaps even a classified one.

Last Wednesday, Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) announced a new plan to immediately eliminate the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms (ATF) — a bill Gaetz calls the ‘Abolish the ATF Act.’

“U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz (FL-01) introduced the ‘Abolish the ATF Act’ of 2023, which eliminates the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms (ATF) immediately after the bill’s enactment,” a press release for Gaetz reads.

This move comes after the ATF took steps to restrict “stabilizing braces” that convert pistols into short-barreled rifles. The ATF will now require a specific license to own these accessories. Fox News adds that while Attorney General Merrick Garland thinks the move will enhance public safety, Gaetz believes it will unfairly disenfranchise “disabled gun owners and veterans,” who rely on stabilizing grips for fire with one hand.

“I have a lot of disabled veterans in my district who enjoy pistol shooting and rely on stabilizing braces to be able to engage in the activity. The recent actions from the ATF essentially allow them to make case-by-case determinations on whether a pistol with a stabilizing brace is legal or an unlawful, sawed-off shotgun,” Gaetz told Fox News Digital.

According to Gaetz, this act has been a long time coming — since 2020 in fact.

Whistleblower sues Konnech, claims data was 'accessible to foreign nationals from China'

The whistleblower "witnessed customer’s data (specifically poll watcher information) being made accessible to foreign nationals from China."

Last month, Grant Bradley, a former employee of the Michigan-based election data firm Konnech Inc, filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the company and its founder, disgraced CEO Eugene Yu, supporting the claims made by True the Vote leaders Catherine Engelbrecht and Gregg Phillips that Konnech transferred and stored the data of American poll workers on Chinese servers.

The Federalist reports that "According to the verified complaint, Konnech provides 'election logistic software' to 32 clients in North America, using 'developers, designers and coders' who 'are all Chinese nationals based out of Wuhan, China.'

Bradley filed the complaint in a Michigan state court last month and said he "witnessed customer’s data (specifically poll watcher information) being made accessible to foreign nationals from China."

When he brought the problem up to management, they told him "everyone was doing it," like big software companies Microsoft and Apple.

Konnech sued True the Vote in September of 2022 and said they made "baseless and racist" accusations against CEO Eugene Yu. Phillips and Engelbrecht had claimed that Yu was an agent of the Chinese Communist Party, and that the country had been using poll worker data to influence the 2020 election.

In his complaint, Bradley said he "began to investigate the extent of the information provided to the Chinese programmers by Defendants Yu and Konnech" after True the Vote started making their claims.

Bradley started looking for other work but was still at Konnech when Yu was arrested and charged by the Los Angeles district attorney for allegedly storing government data about American poll workers in China. LA officials reportedly received their initial tip regarding Yu from Phillips via an informant that Engelbrecht and Phillips knew of. The pair later testified that identifying the confidential informant would put his life at risk and were held in contempt for their protection of the informant.

Bradley alleged in his suit that he "was told by his supervisors not to speak with the police or cooperate in their investigation of Defendants Yu and Konnech’s activities," after Yu’s arrest.

Bradley "ignored the directive of his supervisors" and "asked to meet with the police on the day of the raid so that he could provide them with handwritten notes and other electronic evidence he believes further substantiates Defendants’ illegal activities."

Within days he was fired from Konnech by Yu, forming the foundation of his claim under the Michigan Whistleblowers’ Protection Act. He's also suing for wrongful termination.

In November of last year, Los Angeles County prosecutor George Gascon dropped the criminal charges against Yu.

Phillips and Engelbrecht were also released from jail in November 2022.

Speaking to Steve Bannon after their release Engelbrecht said, "We were put in prison because, one week before the midterms, we needed to be silenced."

Bradley's suit also brought into question the circumstances around Gascon's decision to drop the charges on Yu and the FBI's investigation of Konnech.

Apple is set to shift its production away from China following Covid-related disruptions at its main assembly plant

Apple is looking to scale up its manufacturing in India as the iPhone maker continues to move its production away from China, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday.

The tech giant wants India to account for up to 25% of its production, up from the current 5% to 7%, according to Goyal, who called Apple “another success story” as he talked up the advantages of doing business with the world’s fifth-largest economy.

He didn’t specify when Apple wants to meet the target but noted that “they launched the most recent models from India, manufactured in India.”

Last year, Apple began production of its flagship iPhone 14 in India. It was the first time the tech giant had produced its latest model in India so close to its launch. Apple has been manufacturing iPhones in the Asian country since 2017, first with Wistron and later with Foxconn, the main assembler of iPhones, in line with the Indian government's push for local manufacturing.

India’s Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted on Monday that Apple's exports from India hit $1 billion in December.

The California-based tech giant has been looking to diversify production away from China, where it currently assembles the bulk of its iPhones, following major disruptions at the iPhone factory in Zhengzhou, where hundreds of workers joined protests related to strict Covid-19 regulations.

JP Morgan analysts estimated last September that a quarter of all Apple products would be made outside China by 2025. Last year, Reuters reported citing sources familiar with the matter that Foxconn plans to quadruple the workforce

American aid to Ukraine has eclipsed the annual expenditure of “endless” wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

As the protracted war between Ukraine and Russia continues unabated, congressional lawmakers and President Joe Biden have appropriated $110 billion in military and economic aid to Ukraine.

Some pro-Ukraine advocates have contended that the costs of aiding Ukraine’s fight with Russia amounts to “peanuts” in “grand strategy terms.”

Trita Parsi, the executive vice president of the noninterventionist Quincy Institute, disputed the narrative from these pro-aid analysts.

Anthony Cordesman, emeritus chair of strategy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, wrote last year that the “costs of such aid are low in grand strategic terms.”

Timothy Ash, a fellow at the Chatham House, wrote, “It’s Costing Peanuts for the U.S. to Defeat Russia.”

The cost of the war thus far is not, contrary to Ash, “peanuts.” The U.S. support for Ukraine in 2022 amounted to $68 billion, and the White House requested another $34 billion. In comparison, the war in Afghanistan cost $23 billion per year in its first two years. In 2011, at the height of the surge, the war cost $107 billion. The Iraq War cost $54.4 billion and $91.5 billion in its first two years, respectively. According to the Cost of War project at Brown University, the failed global “war on terror” cost $8 trillion and caused more than 900,000 deaths over the course of 20 years.

John Zingsheim walked into a Wisconsin hospital in the Aurora Health Care system. He was not life-flighted or on a stretcher, but walked in, and tested positive for Covid. Within 10 minutes, the doctor told him, “Mr. Zingsheim, you’re going to die,” and placed him into the CMS (Medicare/Medicaid) hospital Covid protocol. Without John’s knowledge or permission, they gave him remdesivir for two days before he called his family, “I think I’m in trouble, can you help me?”

This protocol for John included unproven Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) drugs baricitinib (causes blood clots and Sepsis, and says not to give it for upper respiratory infections) and remdesivir (which is toxic to the liver and kidneys).

John’s Power of Attorney (POA), his nephew Allen Gahl, demanded he be taken off the injurious drugs. Nevertheless, another effort at giving remdesivir to him was attempted, but according to my interview with the Gahls, they caught it on his charts and were able to stop it in time. John and his POA requested life-saving treatments ivermectin and high dose IV Vitamin C, but the hospital refused. The Gahls informed me, “On the Statutory HCPOA [Healthcare Power of Attorney] Form used by hospitals, which comes from Statute 155, it also requires the hospital to give ‘necessary treatments’ requested by the POA, but these were denied John.”

Under the the hospital’s protocol treatment, John’s kidneys failed, he was on dialysis, he had had Sepsis multiple times, and he was dying on the ventilator.

The hospital sent a hospice team to each family member trying to convince them to “pull the plug” on John, stating there was nothing more they could do at that point since they were claiming he had Multiple Organ System Failure, including his kidneys, and his lungs were scarred. They told them he would never be able to return to a livable quality of life. The family sought help from the legal system, and refused to end John’s life. And the hospital refused to give him ivermectin, even though he was dying.

The discovery of more Biden documents highlights the ridiculous plot to destroy Trump that culminated in the raid of his Mar-a-Lago home.

he FBI recovered an additional cache of classified documents from President Joe Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, following a 12-hour search conducted by federal agents on Friday. While this development adds to the scandal surrounding the current president, it does much more: It highlights the ridiculous plot launched to destroy Donald Trump that culminated in the raid of his Mar-a-Lago home.

“Six items” were recovered on Friday from Biden’s Delaware home, which consisted of “documents with classification markings and surrounding materials,” the president’s lawyer said in a statement released after the search. While the “crafty legalese” deployed by the attorney left unclear how many classified documents were contained within the “six items” recovered, Biden’s lawyer confirmed that the documents dated back to the Delaware Democrat’s time as both vice president and senator, so spanning from 2017 to as far back as 1973.

The president’s lawyers had previously searched the Bidens’ Wilmington home (and garage), and while they discovered a handful of other documents marked classified, they apparently overlooked the “six items” the FBI found last week.

The search of Biden’s home followed the discovery in November 2022 of at least 10 classified documents, including ones reportedly marked “top secret.” Those documents also dated back to his days as vice president under Barack Obama and were stored in a closet at a private office building in D.C. But the so-called “think tank” where they were stored, the Penn Biden Center, did not open until February 2018, meaning Biden had kept the classified documents found there at another location for the year following his time as vice president.

That the classified documents Biden removed from the White House and earlier the Senate were not missed at the time and are only now being discovered — at least a decade later for some — and then only after multiple searches of different locations, contrasts sharply with what happened following Trump’s time in office.

According to then-archivist of the United States, David S. Ferriero, he watched “the Trumps leave the White House and getting off in the helicopter” at the end of Trump’s term. Ferriero recalled someone was “carrying a white banker box,” prompting Ferriero to ask himself, “What the hell’s in that box?”

Defense Department leaders today announced the creation of a 15th university-affiliated research center associated with Howard University in Washington, D.C.

The research center is sponsored by the U.S. Air Force and focused on tactical autonomy.

The announcement represents two firsts for the U.S. military: It's the first university-affiliated research center associated with one of America's historically Black colleges and universities and the first sponsored by the Air Force.

"Today as we work to build enduring advantages for our brave men and women in uniform, we must seek the latest innovations in science and engineering," Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III told students and faculty at Howard University. "That means building more bridges to America's outstanding STEM [science, technology, engineering and math] community. You see, we need your ideas; we need your creativity and we need to draw on the skills of all of our people."

Some 30% of African American STEM professionals graduate from one of America's historically Black colleges and universities, Austin said, yet only a small fraction of the Defense Department's research funding is directed towards HBCUs. That's something Austin said he's determined to change.

"To sharpen America's technological edge and to strengthen America's outstanding military, the department is committed to investing even more in HBCUs and minority-serving institutions," he said. "Today, we're taking that commitment to a new level."

The new research center will be led by Howard University and will focus on tactical autonomy, which is an area of research which is central to U.S. security, Austin said.

"Responsibly used autonomous systems make our military faster, smarter and stronger," Austin said. "They can identify threats to our troops in real-time and they can help our technical crews conduct maintenance more safely. And they can equip our commanders with the best available information to make life and death decisions."

The research expected to take place under the leadership of Howard University, Austin said, will focus on those important areas, and will help to protect the men and women who serve the nation's armed forces.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the United States of America has the strongest fighting force in human history," Austin said, "And thanks to new partnerships like this one, we're going to keep it that way. That's the American way, and it's the Howard way."

A UARC is a DOD-supported non-profit research organization affiliated with a university that has a specific area of domain expertise or specialization, and which supports the long-term needs of the Defense Department. With the addition of the newest UARC, to be led by Howard University, the Department will have 15 such research organizations.

Howard University was chosen to lead a consortium of universities that will participate in the newest UARC. Those universities include Jackson State University, Mississippi; Tuskegee University, Alabama; Hampton University, Virginia; Bowie State University, Maryland; Norfolk State University, Virginia; Delaware State University, Delaware; Florida Memorial University, Florida; and Tougaloo College, Mississippi.

Howard University will receive $12 million per year for five years to fund research, faculty and students.

A teenager who was shot on an MTA bus in the Bronx over the weekend was wounded during a gang-related fight with other youngsters — and is the son of a high-ranking Westchester County police official, law enforcement sources told The Post.

The 17-year-old victim in the Saturday evening shooting is the son of Mount Vernon Police Deputy Commissioner Jeniffer Lackard, according to the sources.

The teen, whose name is being withheld by The Post, had boarded the BX5 bus in Soundview around 6 p.m.with three other boys, two of them 12 and one 10-year-old, the sources said.

A pair of teenagers got on at Hunts Point Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard — and the victim allegedly flashed gang signs at them as he started to get off the bus, according to sources.

He allegedly asked them for their gang affiliation — and then grabbed one of them, a 14-year-old, and tried to drag him off the bus, the sources said.

During the scuffle, two shots were fired, with one hitting the victim in the chest.

Police sources said the victim has three prior arrests and is affiliated with the Slutty Gang street crew.

He was rushed to Jacobi Hospital and was expected to recover. (what a shame…)

Three people were arrested at the scene, but all were later released when police determined they were not involved in the shooting, the sources said.

Cops recovered two .22-caliber shell casings nearby.

The victim’s neighbors in Soundview said the teen lived there with his police bigwig mom, his father and his disabled brother — and were surprised to hear that he was identified by sources as having gang ties.

Caldwell was discussing politics with friends and said the incident was a clear case of discrimination and were promoting a sort of political segregation

The bookstore has since closed its doors and stated how they were starting their winter break early due to the incident

A political commentator for Fox News was asked to leave a North Miami bookstore and restaurant as he discussed politics with friends.

Gianno Caldwell had been eating a meal with a group of people at Paradis Books and Bread then he was asked to vacate the premises.

'I can't believe what just happened. I met up with friends for breakfast at Paradis Books and Bread in North Miami & while we were having discussions about politics we were told by the owner that we were not welcomed there because we aren't politically aligned. Outrageous,' he explained in an initial tweet.

'No matter your politics you should not be discriminated against. I was discriminated against for being a conservative and told to leave a restaurant in North Miami because my politics didn't 'align' with the owner. This is NOT okay,' he stated in a followup posting.

Caldwell has said the incident was a clear case of discrimination and the bookstore's actions were promoting a sort of political segregation reminiscent of the Jim Crow South.

'In 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King said: 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.' My experience at Paradis Books and Bread in North Miami is a clear case of discrimination that should not be tolerated in Florida or anywhere in America,' Caldwell said to NBC6.

'Whether liberal or conservative, no one should ever be asked to leave a place of business for engaging in political conversation in a respectful dialogue. Paradis is promoting a sort of political segregation that hearkens back to the days of the Jim Crow South and runs counter to the restaurant's harm reduction policy.'

Tech billionaire Bill Gates is jet-setting across Australia on his $70million private jet as he preaches about the dangers of climate change.

The Microsoft founder and fourth richest person in the world is in Australia with representatives from his company Breakthrough Energy, as he drums up business for the firm which claims to drive innovation in sustainable energy and in technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Mr Gates relaxed on Lizard Islandon Queensland's Great Barrier Reef before flying the Gulfstream jet, one of two he owns, to Sydney on Saturday for a meeting with Anthony Albanese.

His $70m Gulfstream, which was spotted on the tarmac at Sydney's Kingsford Smith airport as he headed to the Australian prime minister's official residence Kirribilli House, burns around 1,700 litres of fuel per hour.

Mr Gates also addressed the big business-funded Lowy Institute think-tank in Sydney on Monday to share his views on the Covid-19 pandemic and environment.

WASHINGTON —Visitor logs detailing who had access to President Biden’s Delaware home where classified documents from his time as a senator and vice president were improperly stashed awayare now in the hands of the Justice Department and National Archives, the White House said Monday.

After the Secret Service initially denied last week that such records existed, the counsel’s office told House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) that the agencies now had custody of the logs.

“In it, the White House Counsel … explained that the White House does not have possession of the documents, that the Archives and DOJ have taken [them] into their possession and stressed the importance of protecting the integrity and independence of law enforcement investigations,” White House spokesman Ian Sams told reporters.

Comer had formally requested details of visitors to the Wilmington, Del. home in a letter earlier Monday to Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.

“The US Secret Service protected President Biden during the time he stored these classified materials at his Wilmington residence,” Comer wrote.

“Given the White House’s lack of transparency regarding President Biden’s residential visitor logs, the committee seeks information from the Secret Service regarding who had access to his home since serving as vice president,” the chairman added.

Beginning Dec. 20, the president’s attorneys and law enforcement officials have found multiple batches of sensitive papers at Biden’s home during several searches.

On Saturday, the White House announced that six documents marked classified had been removed from the residence the day before by investigators, along with some of Biden’s notes and “surrounding materials.”

The Delaware home became a target of searches after Biden’s attorneys reportedly found 10 pieces of classified material in an abandoned office at the Penn Biden Center in DC on Nov. 2, six days before the midterm elections.

The White House has refused to divulge who may have had access to the documents while visiting the president since he took office in January 2021, insisting that the home is his “personal” residence — despite the fact that Biden has spent all or part of 164 days there across 52 trips since becoming the oldest-ever president.

In the letter, Comer said the committee previously requested a Wilmington visitor log from White House chief of staff Ron Klain on Jan. 15, but were told that administration officials “do not maintain” such information.

On Jan. 16, Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi initially stated the agency had no information to provide to journalists or members of Congress because “we don’t independently maintain our own visitor logs because it’s a private residence.”

He later walked back that statement, saying Thursday that “the Secret Service does generate law enforcement and criminal justice information records for various individuals who may come into contact with Secret Service protected sites,” prompting Comer to send the Monday letter.

California Democrats consider wealth tax — including for people who moved out of state

California lawmakers are pushing legislation that would impose a new tax on the state’s wealthiest residents — even if they’ve already moved to another part of the country.

Assemblyman Alex Lee, a progressive Democrat, last week introduced a bill in the California State Legislature that would impose an extra annual 1.5% tax on those with a “worldwide net worth” above $1 billion, starting as early as January 2024.

As early as 2026, the threshold for being taxed would drop: those with a worldwide net worth exceeding $50 million would be hit with a 1% annual tax on wealth, while billionaires would still be taxed 1.5%.

Worldwide wealth extends beyond annual income to include diverse holdings such as farm assets, arts and other collectibles, and stocks and hedge fund interest.

The legislation is a modified version of a wealth tax approved in the California Assembly in 2020, which the Democrat-led state Senate declined to pass.

The current version just introduced includes measures to allow California to impose wealth taxes on residents even years after they left the state and moved elsewhere.

Exit taxes aren’t new in California. But this bill also includes provisions to create contractual claims tied to the assets of a wealthy taxpayer who doesn’t have the cash to pay their annual wealth tax bill because most of their assets aren’t easily turned into cash. This claim would require the taxpayer to make annual filings with California’s Franchise Tax Board and eventually pay the wealth taxes owed, even if they’ve moved to another state.

California lawmakers pushing the wealth tax think they can “get around” the problem of residents leaving “by trying to tax people even after they leave the state,” said Patrick Gleason, vice president of state affairs at Americans for Tax Reform. However, he, Gray and Walczak all questioned the legality of such an approach or labeled it outright unconstitutional.

MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee man who landed on the FBI’s top 10 most wanted list after he allegedly killed two people and wounded three others at a 2006 Memorial Day picnic has been found dead in his jail cell.

Octaviano Juarez-Corro was found unresponsive in his cell in the Milwaukee County Jail around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. Authorities said he was in a single-occupant cell and there were no obvious signs of trauma or injury.

Prosecutors have alleged Juarez-Corro was in divorce proceedings with his wife when he showed up uninvited at the picnic in a Milwaukee park along the Lake Michigan shoreline to confront her. After being told he couldn’t see his 3-year-old daughter, he opened fire. His wife was hit twice but survived.

He was placed on the FBI’s top 10 most wanted list in 2021. He was finally captured in Zapopan, Guadalajara, Mexico, in February 2022 thanks to a tip and extradited to Milwaukee this past September.

He faced two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and three counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide. He had been held on $1.5 million bail since October.

LHS 475 b: Earth-Sized Exoplanet

If you could stand on exoplanet LHS 475 b, what might you see? No one knows for sure but pictured here is an interesting guess made by an Earth-based artificial intelligence (AI) engine. The existence of the exoplanet was indicated in data taken by the Earth-orbiting TESS satellite but confirmed and further investigated only this year by the near-Earth Sun-orbiting James Webb Space Telescope. What is known for sure is that LHS 475 b has a mass very similar to our Earth and closely orbits a small red star about 40 light years away. The featured AI-illustrated guess depicts a plausibly rugged Earth-like landscape replete with molten lava and with the central red star rising in the distance. Webb data does not as yet reveal, however, whether LHS 475 b has an atmosphere. One of Webb’s science objectives is to follow up previous discoveries of distant exoplanets to better discern their potential for developing life.

Children punched and locked out naked in care homes rated 'good

Children in care were punched, locked out naked and had vinegar poured on cuts, according to reports that were filed over three years before the homes were finally shut.

A BBC investigation has learned more than 100 concerns were logged at the Doncaster children's homes, which retained a "good" Ofsted rating.

Leaked documents also show Ofsted was alerted 40 times about incidents.

The regulator has now apologised, as has Hesley Group, which ran the homes.

More than 100 of the UK's most vulnerable children in care are feared to have been harmed, involving many who are non-verbal.

The homes, which included two residential special schools, charged local authorities £250,000 a year to care for each young person.

The homes continued to be rated as "good" by Ofsted, but in March 2021 the regulator finally stepped in and they were closed shortly afterwards.

NYSE Gets Wave of Sell Orders, Unleashing Stock-Market Chaos

A wave of sell orders targeting financial services stocks swept across American equity exchanges at the open of trading Tuesday, sending companies including Wells Fargo & Co. and Morgan Stanley (They announced a dividend on Jan 17th) to brief but sharp plunges from which they mostly quickly recovered.

After closing Monday at $45.03, Wells Fargo fell as low as $38.10 before bouncing back, while Morgan Stanley plunged to $84.93 after ending at $97.13 on Monday. Exchange officials didn’t immediately respond to phone calls and emails. The price action bears hallmarks of past episodes in which mistaken trades led to sudden price distortions. Tuesday’s transactions occurred in New York Stock Exchange-listed securities and took place on virtually every trading platform, including ones overseen by CBOE Global Markets and private venues reporting to the Finra trade reporting facility. Other impacted stocks included the likes of Walmart Inc. and McDonald’s Corp. These stocks saw drops of at least 12% before they were halted. Their moves have now rebounded to less than 1% in either direction.
