Abe's body returns to his home as Japan grieves for slain ex-PM

A motorcade carrying the body of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived at his home in the Japanese capital on Saturday, a day after he was assassinated by a lone gunman in a rare act of political violence that has shocked the country. Mourners gathered at his residence and at the scene of Friday's attack in the western city of Nara, where Japan's longest-serving modern leader was gunned down while making a campaign speech, a murder decried by the political establishment as an attack on democracy itself. Authorities are reviewing security arrangements at the event where Abe was shot from close range by a 41-year-old unemployed man armed with a homemade gun. Police say the man held a grudge against Abe.

Elections for seats in Japan's upper house of parliament are going ahead as scheduled on Sunday. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was back on the campaign trail visiting regional constituencies after making an emergency return to Tokyo on Friday after the shooting. A metal detector, not normally seen at election events in largely crime-free Japan, was installed at a site in Fujiyoshida city where Kishida was due to give a campaign speech. There was also a heavy police presence. In Nara, some 450 km (280 miles) southwest of Tokyo, a stream of people queued up to lay flowers on a table, that also held a photograph of Abe. "I'm just shocked that this kind of thing happened in Nara," Natsumi Niwa, a 50-year-old housewife, said after offering her flowers, with her 10-year-old son, near the scene of the killing outside a downtown train station. Niwa explained how Abe, a conservative and architect of the "Abenomics" policies aimed at reflating the economy, had inspired the name of her son, Masakuni. Abe used to hail Japan as a "beautiful nation". "Kuni" means nation in Japanese.

A night vigil will be held on Monday. Abe's funeral will take place on Tuesday, attended by close friends, media said. There was no immediate word on any public memorial service. Police are scrambling to establish details of the motive and method of Abe's killer. The suspect, Tetsuya Yamagami, arrested immediately after the attack, told police he believed Abe was linked to a religious group he blamed for ruining his mother financially and breaking up the family, media reported, citing police sources. Police have not identified the group.

Costco raises prices on food court soft drinks, chicken bake

Costco has reportedly raised the prices on two of its food court items. According to Business Insider, the national price hikes on its chicken bake and 20-ounce soda were confirmed by a location in Rochester, New York, as well as food courts in other locations. The chicken bake now sells for $1 more than in June, at $3.99. The price of the soda has increased by 10 cents, up to $0.69. According to research compiled by Wells Fargo ahead of the Fourth of July holiday – using data from Urner Barry, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Nielsen and Bureau of Labor Statistics – chicken prices have soared this year. The bank said that soda prices are also up 13% from last year, as well as competing beverage favorites. Last week, Costco Wholesale Corporation reported net sales of $22.78 billion for the retail month of June. That marks an increase of 20.4% from $18.92 billion last year. For the 44 weeks ended July 3, 2022, the company reported net sales of $188.34 billion, or an increase of 16.9% from $161.09 billion during the same period in 2021.

it's not so much "news" that they raised prices on that stuff (the Food court items)-the retail big boxers have all seen increased consumption-all this pent up demand that is also being brought forward by by the system predicting and then exacerbating it (we already had one) with the constant comments and the games played by the revisions to the GDP estimates. The other thang here is that all of these big box retailers also have to carry all this inventory of the shit you don't need (like high end electronics-comps, TV's etc) and that is going through some serious deflation right now but all the stuff you need-food especially vegetables, fresh meat, grains (rice, corn, wheat and all the products made from that etc) are all and have been going higher.

A lot of that stuff is imported too which already has a higher cost-base (the prices higher to start with) and then add in the fuel prices too.

(((They))) are trying to get that down, gas prices but that is not going to be very fast since this entire gas thing is a refinery problem and the coming CPI #s won't be affected by that at all (the Oil price drop) since that is not used in the CPI data BUT gasoline IS.

"Bad cop" who is now "good cop" (Atlanta Fed Prez Bostic) in the systems view/way-raised his GDP projections yesterday (and it is a weekly thing so he may leave it there for a coupla of weeks (2 weeks!)

They say our GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is 70% based on consumption of goods and service-I think it's closer to 80% but that is muh opinion-and when you have deflation in all the stuff you don't need and inflation in the stuff you need that doesn't bode very well for this entire system staying together for very much longer (that is ultimately what we need) but it's gonna suck the closer we get to the election.

The disconnect is also going to be very hard for (((them))) to hide it too. I think they are in the clear with the CPI #s until Septembers reading-which comes out in Oct and they will probably be well into the next cycle of skying the markets to make the first half of the YTD (-20% or so overall) look much better in all those IRAs and 401ks.

Putting people back to sleep but that is gonna be tough to do so good luck as I think they are going to fail as most peeps (outside of the pensions and IRAs/401k) own very little of the stock market (and already have) miserably

IF45does attend Abe's funeral but does not leave from Anchorage after rally to do so-he will return to Morristown-or mebby back to LV but that would only save about 4.5 hours back to LV-this AC is certainly capable and far superior to he Citation 750 he has used for the last few tripsmebby this was his plan the entire time? and why he chose not to use the Citation in the first place this AC-the current one-left on Friday morning-from LV to go get him and the Citation is still at Morristown from Memphis rally?

Trump seeking to attend Abe’s funeral in Japan

Former President Donald Trump is in talks with the late former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s family about potentially attending his funeral in the wake of his assassination. Mr. Trump, who shared a close relationship with Mr. Abe, said he is looking into the logistics of attending and recalled him being the first world leader he met with while he was president.

“We’re going to see how it goes,” Mr. Trump told Breitbart News. “We’re talking to their family. We love the family. His wife is a phenomenal woman. He is so loved in Japan, I can imagine that is going to be an incredible celebration of life. He was just very special. Every aspect of that man was just very special.” Mr. Trump added that Mr. Abe came to the United States right after the 2016 election, and said they had “a special relationship.” Mr. Trump called Mr. Abe’s death “bad news for the world” after it was reported that he died of gunshot wounds on Friday, after five hours of emergency medical procedures.

that is IF he goes from there and becasue she was so important to that relationship (FLOTUS and Akie Abe) it's hard to picture her not being there

They (Shinzo and Akie) were a strange pair-she used to be a DJ and very progressive (LBQT, pretty "woke" in fact) but they never let that get in the way of their relationship-not the typical submissive stereotypical japanese wife from what I've seen.

Actually it worked pretty well from a political stand-point as everything he wasn't too keen on she was and wasn't shy about it and clashing with his views in public.

The CPI-(inflation numbers) come out on....July 13th and watch both of these rise.

ThE CPI should be pretty flat this time and until Sept reading as they were last year and those #'s are Year over Year (YOY) and not a measure of month-to-month...so they are not comparing Junes with Mays of this year it's June of last year with June of this.

The US Misery Index is released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This metric is calculated by adding the US inflation rate and the US unemployment rate. The misery index can be used as a gauge at how the economy is doing. Because of the components, this indicator tends to be at its highest when inflation or unemployment has increased. For example, one of the most notable time periods in regards to high inflation was the 1980s. The US misery index went as high as 21.98 in 1980. US Misery Index is at a current level of 12.18, up from 11.86 last month and up from 10.79 one year ago. This is a change of 2.72% from last month and 12.87% from one year ago.

and the Fear Index (VIX)

The VIX (also know as The Volatility Index) measures the implied expected volatility of the US stock market. This index is calculated using futures contracts on the S&P 500. VIX is used as a barometer for how fearful and uncertain the markets are. The VIX tends to increase when the market decreases and vice versa. During the financial crisis in 2008-2009, the VIX reached as high as 80.86. VIX is at a current level of 26.08, down from 26.73 the previous market day and up from 16.20 one year ago. This is a change of -2.43% from the previous market day and 60.99% from one year ago.
