North Korea fires artillery shots – media

The “trajectories” were detected by Seoul as fears grow of an imminent “provocation” from the DPRK

The South Korean military detected “trajectories” which are believed to be artillery shots fired by North Korea on Sunday evening.

There was no information on the exact number of shots or the origin of projectiles in a text message sent by the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) to reporters, which was cited by Yonhap.

“While bolstering our military’s surveillance and vigilance, South Korea and the United States are working closely and maintaining a thorough readiness posture,” the JCS said, as quoted by the news agency.

According to the Yonhap’s source, a total of two trajectories were detected, with the shots presumably fired from multiple rocket launchers.

North Korea has apparently tested a range of missiles already this year, all of which are banned under the United Nations Security Council’s resolutions.

On June 12, the South Korean military said Pyongyang had fired projectiles from multiple rocket launchers. A week prior to that, the DPRK allegedly fired eight short-range ballistic missiles eastward from four different areas.

The suspected launches have occurred amid intensifying fears in Seoul that North Korea could soon conduct its seventh nuclear test. In June, Sung Kim, the US special representative to North Korea, claimed that Pyongyang could conduct such a test “at any time.”

Several days ago, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol warned the neighboring country that any “provocation” would be met with a swift response. He put his country’s military on higher alert amid growing tensions with the DPRK on Wednesday.

He discussed the issue with the US and Japanese leaders prior to taking this decision. All three agreed to extend “deterrence” against Pyongyang. On Monday, six American F-35 fighter jets arrived in South Korea for their first announced visit since 2017.

According to the Japan Times, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to increase the number of temporary emergency shelters to protect residents from blasts in the event of a ballistic missile attack. The decision, according to the newspaper, was prompted by growing security threats, including those involving North Korea.

Pyongyang’s last known nuclear test was carried out in 2017, ahead of a self-imposed moratorium agreed during the Donald Trump administration. The country had placed ballistic missile tests on hold as well in a ‘freeze-for-freeze’ deal which saw a brief pause in US-South Korean military drills. However, this ended when joint exercises resumed.

Pyongyang has repeatedly condemned the US military presence in the region as provocative, specifically its drills held with South Korea, seeing the exercises as rehearsals for an invasion.

The untouchable ally: US government lets Israel off the hook in the case of Palestinian-American journalist’s death

The State Department press release on the probe into the Al-Jazeera journalist’s killing contradicts multiple previous findings

The US State Department’s press release on Washington’s investigation into the killing of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh has sparked outrage and triggered accusations of a whitewash.

Almost two months after the murder of the veteran Al-Jazeera reporter, Washington announced that an investigation by the US Security Coordinator (USSC) had concluded that Israeli gunfire was “likely responsible.” However, the statement asserted that the evidence was inconclusive and it could not say that Israeli forces were to blame, contradicting various other reports which had concluded the opposite. The US government also claimed that there is “no reason to believe” that the killing was intentional and instead was likely “the result of tragic circumstances,” to which Israel’s top human rights group B’Tselem responded by calling the investigation a “whitewash.”

“We are incredulous,” the family of Abu Akleh said in a statement of their own, in which they decried the State Department’s press release. What is perhaps most concerning about the State Department’s statement is its contradictory nature; it calls for accountability on the one hand, whilst simultaneously disagreeing with other reports that indicate Israeli guilt and making a poorly-substantiated assessment of intent. If the US government’s investigation cannot conclude Tel Aviv's guilt or prove an Israeli soldier fired the shot, then how can it conclude that the “likely” culprit did not intend to kill Abu Akleh?

According to a CNN investigative report, Abu Akleh was killed in a “targeted attack by Israeli forces,” implying that the evidence suggested the killing was indeed intentional. The claim made by the Israeli government, that a firefight had occurred in the minutes leading up to the murder, was seemingly debunked by the Washington Post’s own investigation into the incident. This is important because the Israeli military’s argument as to why they say the shooting was unintentional is based upon their claim that Israeli soldiers were likely trying to fire at Palestinian militants. Furthermore, according to the Washington Post, “Abu Akleh and other journalists identified as press would likely have been visible from the IDF convoy’s position.”

The New York Times also conducted its own investigation, in which it “showed that there were no armed Palestinians near her when she was shot” and debunked the Israeli government’s claims as to how many bullets were fired in the journalist’s direction. The New York Times also stated that “the bullet that killed Ms. Abu Akleh was fired from the approximate location of the Israeli military convoy, most likely by a soldier from an elite unit.” The United Nations’ probe likewise came to conclusions “consistent with many findings out there that the shots that killed her came from Israeli Security Forces.”

The other troubling element surrounding the US investigation has been the White House’s flip-flopping on its approach to achieving justice. When news first broke of Abu Akleh’s death on May 11, State Department spokesperson Ned Price stated that “the Israelis have the wherewithal and the capabilities to conduct a thorough, comprehensive investigation,” and seemed to indicate that a US inquiry would not be necessary. Later, however, it was reported that Israel would not conduct an investigation into the killing, and then a statement from an IDF military lawyer suggested that if an Israeli soldier were to be found responsible for firing the fatal shot, they would not be guilty of any criminal misconduct “absent further evidence.”....

Developing world to face wave of defaults – Bloomberg

National bankruptcies to precede political instability in emerging economies

Emerging nations, includingEl Salvador, Ghana, Egypt, Tunisia and Pakistan, will be challenged with a historic cascade of defaults as a quarter-trillion-dollar pile of distressed debts exerts downward pressure on economies, Bloomberg is reporting.

“With the low-income countries, debt risks and debt crises are not hypothetical,” the World Bank’s Chief Economist Carmen Reinhart told the agency on Saturday. “We’re pretty much already there.”

Over the past six months, there’s reportedly been a doubling in the number of emerging markets with sovereign debt that trades at highly distressed levels, meaning yields that indicate investors believe default is a real possibility.

Another cause for major concern reportedly arises from a potential “domino effect” that commonly occurs when scared investors begin yanking money out of countries with economic problems.

In June, traders reportedly pulled $4 billion out of emerging-market bonds and stocks, marking a fourth straight month of outflows.

Probable defaults may be followed by political instability. Earlier this year, Sri Lanka was the first nation to stop paying its foreign bondholders, burdened by unwieldy food and fuel costs that fueled protests and political chaos.

“Populations suffering from high food prices and shortages of supplies can be a tinderbox for political instability,” Barclays has said, as quoted by Bloomberg.

Boris Johnson considers leaving politics – media

The outgoing prime minister could return to writing and delivering speeches, the Daily Telegraph claims

After being forced from office by a party revolt, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson may now leave the political stage altogether, the Daily Telegraph reported on Saturday, citing sources.

According to the outlet, Johnson is now thinking about whether to remain in the House of Commons, like his predecessor Theresa May did, or to ditch his possible bid at the next election.

After stepping down, the prime minister may decide to return to writing and delivering speeches at various events, an activity that had proved profitable for him.

“He’s taking this weekend to think about it. I don’t think he’s decided yet,” said one of the Telegraph’s sources.

Johnson, an author of several books, including a historical survey on the Roman Empire, has reportedly yet to submit a manuscript on the life of William Shakespeare to Hodder and Stoughton, a UK publishing house.

The book was apparently supposed to be published as early as 2016 to coincide with the 400-year anniversary of the poet’s death, but the publisher agreed to put off the release date since Boris Johnson was appointed as foreign secretary at the time.

The money issue is said to be especially delicatefor the outgoing prime minister, even if he remains a Tory backbencher, given that he would lose his ministerial salary. Moreover, according to various reports, Johnson has been plagued by financial woes, with the prime minister reportedly forced to seek donations to pay for his child’s nanny.

At the same time, speeches may become a financial boon for the scandal-ridden prime minister. “Like most of his predecessors, from Churchill to Blair, he’ll be in great demand outside his own country,” Jeremy Lee, the PM’s former agent, told the Telegraph. “In commercial terms, Johnson’s a global brand with a reputation for colorful speeches – I can see audiences from the US to Asia in the palm of his hand.”

‘Date-rape drug’ scandal rocks German chancellor’s party

Multiple women felt dizzy after a summer party hosted by Germany's Social Democrats

Berlin police have launched an investigation after at least nine women reported feeling unwell following an invite-only event hosted by the parliamentary group of Chancellor Olaf Scholz's party on Wednesday.

The official probe was first initiated after a 21-year-old woman had no memory of the event the next day, even though she says she didn’t drink any alcohol. She went to a hospital and filed a complaint, with police still awaiting the results of her blood test for possible toxic substances.

By Saturday, authorities received at least nine similar complaints, after the incident was first reported by the Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegel, citing internal communications. Shocked by the allegations, SPD officials apparently sent out an email to all those invited to the event, condemning the “monstrous act” and urging other possible victims to come forward.

“I advise all those concerned to file a complaint,” the SPD's Katja Mast reiterated on Twitter, while a spokesman for the party's parliamentary group told AFP on Saturday there was “still a lot of uncertainty, the police are investigating.”

Local media reports alleged that the women had likely fallen victim to so-called “date-rape drugs” or “knockout drops.” Such substances are sometimes used by sexual predators at nightclubs and bars to spike drinks or food, to leave victims confused and unable to defend themselves.

The investigation so far is being conducted only on “suspicion” of serious bodily harm perpetrated by unknown person or persons. Authorities have yet to officially confirm if any illicit drugs were involved, and there were no reports or allegations of sexual abuse.

The traditional celebration was organized by the SPD ahead of the parliamentary recess on Wednesday in central Berlin. The event was attended by around 1,000 people, including Chancellor Olaf Scholz, several federal ministers, party lawmakers and their employees. “It was an internal event. You could only get in with an invitation,” the SPD's spokesman confirmed.

“It makes me angry such a thing could happen at an event organized by the SPD,” the party’s co-leader Lars Klingbeil told Die Welt daily, expressing hope that the perpetrator or perpetrators would be identified and brought to justice.

Operation Mockingbird

Propaganda is as old as humanity itself, but the modern version of it can be traced back to 1948, when the CIA’s Office of Special Projects2 launched Operation Mockingbird,3,4 a clandestine CIA media infiltration campaign that involved bribing hundreds of journalists to publish fake stories at the CIA’s request. The CIA reportedly spent $1 billion a year (about one-third of its entire budget5) on this enterprise. CIA-recruited journalists worked in most major news organizations, including CBS News, Time, Life, Newsweek and The New York Times, just to name a few.6 Later on, the campaign expanded to include foreign media as well.7 As reported by the Free Press:8

“In 1976, Senator Frank Church’s investigation into the CIA exposed their corruption of the media ... The tactic was straightforward. False news reports or propaganda would be provided by CIA writers to knowing and unknowing reporters who would simply repeat the falsehoods over and over again.”

During the Cold War, CIA propaganda disparaged communist ideologies. Today, it promotes radical ideas that bring us closer to The Great Reset — which is based on a technocratic economic system — instead.

Media Is More Controlled Than Ever

While Operation Mockingbird is said to have been officially dismantled, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest it’s still in operation. If anything, the system has only gotten more efficient and effective, as the number of major media outlets has shrunk over these past decades, and a vast majority of journalists and news anchors simply parrot what’s reported by the three global news agencies. What’s more, the CIA isn’t the only intelligence agency using the media for its own propaganda purposes. The intelligence agencies in other countries do it too. For example, leaked documents9 reveal Reuters and BBC News received multimillion-dollar contracts to advance a covert propaganda program by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) aimed at weakening Russia’s influence over its neighbors.10 You can learn more about this in “Reuters and BBC Caught Taking Money for Propaganda Campaign.” One of the biggest changes we’re seeing right now is that most of the world’s intelligence agencies are controlling media in the same direction — toward The Great Reset and the technocratic control of the global population. That’s why we’re seeing the same narratives playing all over the world. In 1977 Carl Bernstein wrote a 75-page article for Rolling Stone that exposed the CIA’s involvement with the media in even greater detail.11 Those were the days when Rolling Stone actually did decent investigative journalism. Today they are one of the largest spreaders of government disinformation.

Abbott announces additional $30 million to boost local border security efforts

Gov. Greg Abbott announced on Thursday that his Public Safety Office is providing an additional $30 million in Operation Lone Star grant funding for Texas cities and counties to enhance border security operations, including funding to help deter and interdict criminal activity related to the border crisis.

“While the Biden Administration has abandoned border communities, the State of Texas will support them and help them respond to the disaster that President Biden has caused on the border,” Abbott stated in the press release. “Operation Lone Star grant funding has played an integral role in our mission to keep Texans safe and support local communities. I encourage local governments to apply for these funds as we work together to prevent illegal immigration and the smuggling of people, illegal weapons, and deadly drugs like fentanyl from Mexico into Texas.”

Additional grant funding being made available includes:

>> $14 million for border-adjacent counties — available starting Sept. 1.

>> $16 million for any county or city — available now, grant applications open on July 11.

Governor Abbott launched the OLS Grant Program in September 2021 with an initial $100 million made available to strengthen Texas’ response to the border crisis. All eligible requests for this initial funding have been fulfilled, totaling $58 million in awards so far with $42 million still available.

The Governor’s PSO is responsible for administering the OLS Grant Program. Local units of government that are interested in learning more about this program can view the funding announcement here. Applicants can also contact PSO via [email protected] or at 512-463-1919.

Governor Abbott has taken significant action to secure the border in the wake of the federal government’s inaction. Those actions include:

NIH division spends $413,000 to study effect of climate change on mental health of the young

"If elected officials and bureaucrats are concerned about producing anxiety, perhaps they should also consider letting up on their unrelenting alarmism," advised federal spending watchdog Adam Andrzejewski.

The Golden Horseshoe is a weekly designation from Just The News intended to highlight egregious examples of wasteful taxpayer spending by the government. The award is named for the horseshoe-shaped toilet seats for military airplanes that cost the Pentagon a whopping $640 each back in the 1980s.

This week's Golden Horseshoe is awarded to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences for spending approximately $413,000 to study the adverse impact climate change is purportedly having on the mental health of young people.

The NIEHS, a division of the National Institutes of Health, awarded $413,598 to researchers at Appalachian State University in North Carolina this year to conduct the study.

"Despite the frequency of climate-related natural disasters, like hurricanes, wildfires, and heatwaves, little is known about their effects on mental health in this group," according to the project description's "public health relevance statement."

"New research recognizes the role that environmental factors sensitive to climate change and variability (e.g., increasing temperatures, heat waves) may play in the complex pathway linking environmental exposures and negative mental health and well-being outcomes" among the young, stipulates the proposed Causal Analysis of the Complex Mental Health Impacts of the Climate Crisis in Young People.

Despite "a recent survey showing 7 out of 10 young people are worried about their future in the context of these planetary changes," the project abstract claims, "Few studies have fully examined climate- mental health on a national level to determine which types or combinations of climate events (extreme heat, hurricanes, extreme heat in the context of a hurricane) are connected to mental health consequences in young people."

The "overarching goal of the research is to comprehensively examine the sensitivity of mental health impacts to climate disasters in youth, as well as the compounding and cascading effect of concurrent extreme events across the U.S.," according to the project description.

The researchers plan to leverage their relationship with the global nonprofit organization Crisis Text Line to assess these psychological effects on the target demographic.

Le Pen blasts reverse effect of anti-Russia sanctions

The EU’s punitive measures ‘sanctioned the French more than they sanctioned Russia,’ she told French media

Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s right-wing National Rally party, has dismissed EU sanctions against Russia as “completely inefficient.”

Speaking to French broadcaster BMF TV on Sunday, Le Pen said the “sanctions had enriched Russia; they have sanctioned the French more than they had sanctioned Russia.”. The right-wing opposition leader also added that, due to Western sanctions, France had been forced to buy oil from India, a country that itself depends on oil exports from Russia.

Her comments come as the EU plans to phase out Russian gas by 2030 in response to Moscow’s military offensive in Ukraine. In early June, the bloc adopted a new package of sanctions that included a partial embargo on Russian oil imports.

At the same time, according to a recent Bloomberg report, although the Russian economy was hit hard by sweeping Western sanctions, it proved to be more resilient than anticipated, with surging oil shipments responsible for blunting the impact of punitive measures.

The EU imposed a raft of new sanctions after Russia attacked Ukraine in late February, following the nation’s failure to implement the terms of the Minsk agreements, first signed in 2014, and Moscow’s eventual recognition of the Donbass republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. The German- and French-brokered protocols were designed to give the breakaway regions special status within the Ukrainian state.

The Kremlin has since demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join the US-led NATO military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked and has denied claims it was planning to retake the two republics by force.

China's Foreign Minister blames Morrison government for poor relations, tells Penny Wong to 'treat us as a partner, not a threat'

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi has told Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong that the Albanese government must form a "correct understanding" of China as a partner, not a threat, according to a Chinese government summary of their first meeting in Bali.

He hopes the Albanese government will now seize this opportunity to "reduce negative assets and create positive energy"

The meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' summit on Friday night ended more than three years of cold shoulder treatment from China's Foreign Ministry towards Australian ministers, and is a prominent step in the resumption of high level contact between the two countries.

China's government waited more than 24 hours after the meeting to present its account of the exchange, which Ms Wong described earlier as "an important first step" to "stabilise" the relationship.

She told reporters that she raised the prolonged detention of two Australian citizens in Beijing on national security charges and China's trade restrictions on multiple Australian exports, but declined to specify what Mr Wang asked of Australia.

Morrison government to blame

In a statement, China's Foreign Ministry said Mr Wang laid the blame for the extraordinary deterioration of diplomatic ties in recent years on the previous Australian government, telling Ms Wong the Morrison government was "determined to view China as an adversary and even a threat".

"[The previous government] undertook a series of irresponsible words and actions," Mr Wang said at the meeting, according to the Chinese government statement.

His statement is in line with Beijing's stance over the past few years that the Australian side is to blame rather than China, despite Xi Jinping's government jailing two Australians in secretive cases, sentencing a third to death and imposing billions of dollars of trade strikes in a thinly veiled effort to economically coerce Australia.

With such measures failing to shift either the Morrison government's positions or Australian public opinion, Beijing has used the election of the Albanese government as a reason to resume diplomatic contact.

But it looks like the dysfunction goes even deeper than we may have realized.

Newly unearthed text messages from Hunter’s “Laptop From Hell,” reveal that he and Jill intensely dislike one another… and it appears to go far beyond Hunter being an angry “crackhead.”

It seems there is no love lost between Hunter and his stepmother, Jill.

The Sun reported that in one text to his late brother Beau’s widow, Hallie, – with whom he was romantically involved at the time – Hunter referred to Jill as a “selfish silly entitled c**t.”

He also admitted he had told the now-First Lady to “go f**k yourself” and ridiculed her teaching skills during an argument just after Christmas in 2018.

The bitter showdown came as Hunter’s penchant for crack cocaine and wild sex sessions with call girls was reportedly spiraling out of control.

Text messages appear to show that Jill, 71, supported Hallie, 47, in pushing for him to seek inpatient rehab treatment.

Most of the texts were found on a bombshell Apple iPhone backup found on Hunter’s infamous “laptop from hell.”

They were handed to The Sun by Marco Polo, an organization led by a former White House staffer, which is investigating the laptop.

Exchanging texts with his Uncle Jimmy Biden on December 29, Hunter told how Jill, Hallie, and Hunter’s half-sister, Ashley, 41, had tried to convince Joe, 79, that his son was “in real danger zone” and “a threat to myself and others.”

After proposing that he would stay near his uncle in Pennsylvania and teach, Hunter claimed that Jill rolled her eyes and told him: “Well you’re not going to be doing anything at all for yourself or your family if you just refuse to get sober.”

Raging against her reaction in a further text message to his uncle, Hunter – a graduate of Yale Law School – said he told English teacher Jill he was smarter than her.

He said: “I said Yang ow [you know] what mom you’re a f**king moron. A vindictive moron.

“I suooorted [supported] my GM family including some of the costs you should have used your salary to lay [pay] for – for the last 24 years.

“And you do know the drunkest I’ve ever been is still smarter than you could ever even comprehend and you’re a shut (sic) grammar teacher that wouldn’t survive one class in a ivy graduate program.

“So go f**k yourself Jill let’s all agree I don’t like you anymore than you like me.”

That last line says it all, doesn’t it?

The things Hunter said about Jill are harsh, but they could be written off as the ramblings of a crack addict… but that last line gives us a peek into what’s really happening here… they don’t like one another, and everything else appears to result from that root issue.

Clearly, these two have had a torrid and unhealthy relationship.

What a mess this family is… and if they can’t manage themselves, what makes anyone think they can manage the US?

Black smoke is visible from large parts of the eastern edge of the city, and can also be observed from the city center, writes the Italian news agency ANSA.

– It is a dramatic situation, says Mauro Caliste, leader of Rome’s fifth district.

According to the news agency, he further says that the fire crews have so far not been able to delimit the fire, and due to the wind, it is spreading further.

Barrons has an interesting article on an increase in bank auto repossession rates connected to defaults [see here]. Essentially, used car prices have surged significantly and the timeline seems to indicate the temporary covid-19 stimulus spending had a lot to do with the increase in demand.

According to data assembled by CoPilot, used cars are currently priced approximately 10,000 higher than they would be without any pandemic related influence, supply side or demand side. Banks and financial institutions loaned money into the climbing market price. However, the artificially inflated car prices now create a bubble where the liability on the books is significantly higher than the repossessed asset is worth.

A higher rate of auto loans are now defaulting for both sub-prime and prime borrowers (double for both), indicating the former buyers are under financial pressure and can no longer make their car payments. The loan to value ratio was as high as 140% when the banks made the loans, a more traditional or normal ratio is 80%.

The banks have a vested financial interest in limiting the number of repossessed vehicles they allow into the used car auction market in order to keep the book value of the cars as high as possible. Those banks and financial institutions have recently rented more storage space for the vehicles being repossessed.

Illness caused by Marburg virus begins abruptly, with high fever, severe headache and severe malaise. Muscle aches and pains are a common feature. Severe watery diarrhoea, abdominal pain and cramping, nausea and vomiting can begin on the third day. Diarrhoea can persist for a week. The appearance of patients at this phase has been described as showing “ghost-like” drawn features, deep-set eyes, expressionless faces, and extreme lethargy.

All of that sounds terrible, but the next stage of the disease is truly nightmarish…

Bill De Blasio walks alone after giving up NYPD bodyguards

Now that he’s running for Congress, ex-Mayor Bill de Blasio has given up his NYPD bodyguards — after years of abusing the taxpayer-funded security, The Post has learned.

The seven cops who continued to safeguard de Blasio after he left office Dec. 31 were reassigned July 1, law-enforcement sources said.

De Blasio could have asked the Police Department to extend his protection, sources said. But he likely decided against it given the optics of a former mayor getting taxpayer-funded bodyguards while the rest of the residents in the violence-wracked city are left to fend for themselves, a source said.

“It doesn’t look good for him to have bodyguards while the city is getting shot up,” the source said.

The source noted that there were no threats against the former mayor “besides the millions of New Yorkers who hate him and would like to punch him in the face.”

De Blasio, who is $2.5 million in debt, also may have had to reimburse the city at some point for the security coverage, given his new political bid.

A Brooklyn neighbor who spotted de Blasio walking alone to the gym recently said, “He looks like a lost soul.

“No one even said anything to him, a far cry from six months ago,” the neighbor added.

De Blasio’s predecessor, billionaire former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, kept his security detail in place after he left office by having the cops on the publicly paid assignment retire from the force and then hiring them on his own, said sources familiar with the situation.

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s bodyguards continued protecting him at taxpayer expense after he left office in the wake of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, but it’s unclear for how long. The cops later retired and were hired by Giuliani to continue guarding him, sources said.

De Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, lost her security detail Dec. 31, sources said.

During his eight years as mayor, de Blasio regularly had his bodyguards drive him from Gracie Mansion on Manhattan’s Upper East Side to the Prospect Park YMCA in Brooklyn on weekday mornings for light workouts of stretching and riding a stationary bicycle while watching TV.

Official schedules obtained by The Post in 2020 revealed that the entire routine took around 2 and 1/2 hours, with de Blasio finally arriving at City Hall around 10:30 a.m.

mayor squandered nearly $320,000 worth of city resources by using his security detail for “political purposes” during his quixotic 2020 presidential campaign.

The report also faulted de Blasio for having cops chauffeur his kids around, including helping daughter Chiara de Blasio move from a Brooklyn apartment to Gracie Mansion in 2018 and shuttling son Dante de Blasio to and from Yale University.

The city Conflicts of Interest Board ordered de Blasio to reimburse the city $319,794 — an amount that could have increased if the former mayor continued being protected by the NYPD as he campaigns in the Democratic primary for the newly redrawn 10th Congressional District seat.

The district’s crowded field of candidates includes US Rep. Mondaire Jones, who now represents parts of Westchester and Rockland counties, Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou (D-Lower Manhattan) and Daniel Goldman, former lead counsel for House Democrats during the first impeachment of former President Donald Trump.

De Blasio hasn’t paid for the cost of his presidential-campaign security pending an appeal of the COIB’s ruling.

A COIB rep said Friday that confidentiality rules prohibit the board from “disclosing its communications with public servants or even acknowledging whether such communications have occurred.”

The former mayor has racked up around $2.5 million in debt that also includes $1.2 million in mortgages on his family’s Park Slope home, which recently underwent extensive renovations, and $434,000 in legal bills tied to corruption probes by federal and state authorities.

No charges were filed against de Blasio regarding the probes, with then-acting Manhattan US Attorney Joon Kim citing “the particular difficulty in proving criminal intent in corruption schemes where there is no evidence of personal profit.”

After leaving Gracie Mansion, de Blasio and McCray moved into a hotel suite at the swanky New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, where they stayed until returning to their remodeled home last month.

It’s unclear how much they spent on the lodging, and the management of the hotel, which is owned by supporters of the former mayor, has declined to say if the couple received any discount on its rates, which start at around $600 a night for a suite.

On Friday, de Blasio was spotted by The Post walking alone on a Brooklyn sidewalk, holding a cellphone attached to earbuds he was wearing.

The former mayor seemed largely oblivious to his surroundings, at one point walking in semicircles while looking at his feet and apparently engrossed in a conversation.

Later, when asked by The Post to discuss the loss of his security detail, de Blasio declined to comment, citing the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe earlier in the day.

A source in the former mayor’s camp said the NYPD makes the decision on whether he needs a publicly funded security detail, not de Blasio.

Protesters demanding frozen millions from Chinese banks face rough-handling in tussle with security

Several people protesting in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou over the freezing of deposits by some rural-based banks said they were injured on Sunday when heavy-handed security personnel dispersed the crowd.

The banks froze millions of dollars worth of deposits in April, telling customers they were upgrading their internal systems. The banks have not issued any communication on the matter since, depositors said.

None of the banks has responded to emails and telephone calls seeking comment.

Chinese media has reported that the frozen deposits could be worth up to $US1.5 billion ($2.2 billion) and authorities are investigating the three banks.

About 1,000 people gathered outside the Zhengzhou branch of China's central bank on Sunday to demand action.

Videos and photographs on social media showed depositors waving banners and throwing plastic bottles at approaching security guards who then roughly dragged some of the protesters away.

"I feel so aggrieved I can't even explain it to you," one protester, surnamed Zhang, 40, told Reuters.

Mr Zhang said he had been hoping to retrieve about 170,000 yuan ($37,000) deposited with one of the banks, the Zhecheng Huanghuai Community Bank.

He said he had suffered injuries to his foot and thumb, and was taken away by four unidentified security personnel around midday.

Security personnel outnumbered protesters by around three to one, he said.

"They did not say they would beat us if we refused to leave. They just used the loudspeaker to say that we were breaking the law by petitioning," he said.

"That's ridiculous. It's the banks that are breaking the law."

Reuters was not immediately able to reach police for comment.

The banks — which include the Yuzhou Xinminsheng Village Bank and the Shangcai Huimin County Bank — are under investigation by the authorities for illegal fundraising, the state-run Global Times reported.

UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has announced that she is joining the race to succeed Boris Johnson as British prime minister.

Both Hunt, 55, and Javid, 52, said they would cut corporation tax from the current 25% to 15% if they were to become prime minister. Javid told The Telegraph that he would scrap the controversial National Insurance rise, introduced during his time as health secretary.

Also on Saturday, newly appointed UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Nadhim Zahawi announced his candidacy for the post of prime minister, as well as UK Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps. Even if Western nations would help Ukraine to win its ongoing conflict with Moscow, they would still fail to make the world a safer place, Walesa argued, adding the international community would potentially see another conflict involving Russia “in five years.” “In ten years, we will see another Putin arise,” he added, referring to Russian president Vladimir Putin, who is increasingly portrayed as an autocratic strongman by Western officials and the media.

To avoid such a development, the West “must force [a] change of political system” in Russia, the former Polish president believes. If it proves to be impossible, “organizing an uprising” would be another option, he said.

According to Walesa, Russia still has “60 peoples, who have been annexed like Ukrainians [are being annexed] today.” It would be “necessary to stir those peoples … to action” to bring Russia’s population “back to less than 50 million,” the former president said, pointing to a potential forceful disintegration of the modern-day Russia. Walesa, who was a co-founder of the Solidarity movement that brought down the socialist government in Poland, also argued that the West should have “brought Russia down” but it eventually fell for the last Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev’s positive image and wasted its chance.

“We should have brought Russia down. But Gorbachev was too smart. We said to ourselves at the time: ‘There was Stalin, Brezhnev, but Gorbachev is nice’,” Walesa said, adding that “it was our mistake then.” According to the former Polish leader, Russia was allowed to “wait out” the hard times and to “carry on like they have done for centuries and keep annexing people into their empire.”

Lebanon's internal security forces said a 42-year-old Saudi citizen had been stabbed to death by his two brothers in a family dispute on Saturday, without publishing the victim's name.

A Lebanese security source confirmed to Reuters that the victim of the stabbing was Manea al-Yami.

The Saudi ambassador to Lebanon, Waleed al-Bukhari, praised the Lebanese authorities' efforts "to uncover the facts and bring the perpetrators to justice" in a post on Twitter.

Yami, a member of the Saudi Shi'ite Ismaili Muslim minority, had been living in Lebanon since 2015, said senior NAAS member Yahya Assiri. He had been trying to secure safe passage to a third country.

Yami helped establish NAAS in 2020. The group has advocated for an elected parliament in Saudi Arabia, as well as constitutional safeguards to ensure separation of the legislative, judicial and executive branches.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Former President Donald Trump told Breitbart News exclusively that he knew Elon Musk would not actually acquire Twitter, despite the hype.

“I knew that Twitter had a lot of the fake accounts because I read, like everyone else does,” Trump told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview Friday night. “I knew they had a lot of the fake accounts like the bots and everything else that they had. I thought that the price was exorbitant; the price he was paying for it was exorbitant.”

Trump pointed out correctly, too, that he “called it early” that Musk would not end up buying Twitter. Trump’s interview came just hours after Musk, through a formal filing, moved to void his bid to buy Twitter, citing concerns with the volume of fake bot accounts on the platform. Twitter’s chairman, however, fired back, saying the company intends to attempt to enforce the agreement with Musk to buy the company, something Trump said he expects “a lot of litigation” over.

“I called it early and said, ‘That deal is never going to happen,’” Trump said. “We’re going to have to see what happens because they’re going to be saying, ‘You owe us $44 billion’ because I hear they have a very tight contract. It’s supposed to be ‘iron-clad,’ but I don’t know how you define ‘iron-clad.’ But it’s an ‘iron-clad’ contract, and he put up a billion-dollar deposit, so I see that ending up in a lot of litigation.”

4chan users claim to have hacked Hunter Biden’s iCloud account

The contents of Hunter Biden's iCloud account have allegedly been hacked by users of the 4chan community, who posted screenshots purported to be from his phone and computer on the website's main political forum late Saturday night.

Administrators on the image board moved quickly in the hours after the content was posted to pull down threads that included materials from the alleged leak, leaving many on the site, which is known for featuring some of the most salacious subject matter on the internet, furious.

The content from the leak could not immediately be verified by the Washington Examiner, and a White House representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

It was also not immediately clear if the contents of the 4chan leak included any materials from the younger Biden's infamous laptop, of which the Washington Examiner verified the authenticity earlier this year. The infamous laptop, which emerged into the public view in the final weeks of the 2020 election, contains details about the first son's financial dealings and personal matters.

Hunter Biden's financial affairs, including millions of dollars worth of dealings and money transfers tied to countries such as Ukraine, China, and Russia, have been under federal scrutiny since 2018. Hunter Biden, who revealed the existence of an inquiry into his tax affairs just after the 2020 election, previously claimed to be "100% certain" he will be cleared of wrongdoing.

The Washington Examiner was able to confirm the legitimacy of the laptop after obtaining a copy of the hard drive and having it examined by a former Secret Service agent who has testified as a cyber forensics expert in over 100 classified, criminal, and civil matters at the state, federal, and international levels.

Konstantinos "Gus" Dimitrelos conducted a full forensic examination to determine the drive's authenticity and whether there were any signs of tampering. Using a technique he developed called "digital sandwiching," Dimitrelos cross-referenced thousands of emails, documents, business records, text messages, Apple Notes, photos, geolocation data, travel records, and other information on the drive to conclude that Biden is the only person capable of producing the data.

"My analysis revealed there is a 100% certainty that Robert Hunter Biden was the only person responsible for the activity on this hard drive and all of its stored data," Dimitrelos told the Washington Examiner in May. "Hunter Biden's MacBook Pro was not hacked, and the data contained on the hard drive is authentic. Based on the data I examined, there was no manipulation of any photographs, emails, documents, or other user activities."

Records on the drive reviewed by Dimitrelos show Hunter Biden's iCloud account was syncing his personal data with his MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad when the computer was last used in March 2019. Sri Lanka’s Opposition Parties Reportedly Agree to Form Unity Government

Opposition parties in Sri Lanka have agreed to form an interim government of unity after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigns, the Deccan Herald newspaper reports.

Sri Lanka’s commercial capital, Colombo, was rocked by major protests on Saturday. President Rajapaksa was evacuated and is expected to resign on July 13. Opposition parties held talks on Sunday to discuss ways of getting Sri Lanka out of the grave political crisis.

"We agreed in principle to form a government of unity with all parties participation for an interim period," Wimal Weerawansa of the ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna party's breakaway group said on Sunday, as quoted by Deccan Herald. "This will be a government where all parties are represented."

In his turn, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, another leader of the breakaway group, said that opposition parties need not wait for Rajapaksa's resignation on July 13.

According to Deccan Herald, party leaders will meet on Monday, July 11, to discuss the convening of the House for the transition of power for a new government, aiming for an interim government of all parties that will function until parliamentary elections.

Parliamentary Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana has already informed Rajapaksa of the decisions made at the Saturday emergency meeting of the party leaders, which was convened in response to the mass protests in Colombo. The letter called for the immediate resignation of President Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and provided for convening the parliament within 7 days to appoint an acting president.

Speaker Abeywardana is expected to become the acting president, since both the president and prime minister are resigning.

President Zelensky gave the order to retake the areas, Ukraine’s defense minister told The Times

As ordered by the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, a million-strong fighting force has been amassed in the country to recapture its southern areas, which have previously been taken by Russian forces, defense minister Alexey Reznikov has told The Times.

“We understand that, politically, it’s very necessary for our country. The president has given the order to the supreme military chief to draw up plans,” he said in an interview published on Sunday.

“We’re people of the free world and with a real sense of justice and liberty. We have approximately 700,000 in the armed forces and when you add the national guard, police, border guard, we are around a million strong,” the minister added.

Democrat-Aligned Operative Behind Twitter Account ‘PatriotTakes’ Gets EXPOSED – Connected to Soros, Other Major Dark Money Donors

An investigation by independent journalists Kyle Clifton and Greyson Arnold has exposed the anonymous social media account ‘PatriotTakes‘ connections to dark money, Soros funding, and Clinton PACs, as well as, shady hiring practices, family secrets, and much more.

PatriotTakes, which has more than 400,000 followers on Twitter, claims to “combat right-wing threats” to democracy by “research[ing], monitor[ing], and expose[ing] the extremism and radicalization of the far-right across the darkest parts of the internet.”

In other words, the account solely exists to dig up dirt by way of selectively editing clips and taking things out of context to whip up the hysterical cancel mob – aka. the woke ‘hitman.’ What we really see is that PatriotTakes is being used as a propaganda tool to circulate disinformation and create violent division against America First Republicans.

Throughout its existence, PatriotTakes has been propped up and aided by the powers that be, which has allowed it to amass a massive following online. The anonymous account is regularly cited by mainstream media outlets in an effort to promote its content and it recently began accessing massive amounts of capital after starting fundraising through its own Political Action Committee (PAC). Since April 2021, PatriotTakes has been soliciting donations via the radical Left’s ‘ActBlue’ platform, which “enables left-leaning nonprofits, Democratic candidates, and progressive groups to raise money from individual donors on the Internet by providing them with online fundraising software.”

The move to establish itself with fundraising capabilities allowed Kyle Clifton to search through FEC records for the PatriotTakes PAC and uncover the face behind the anonymous Twitter account – PAC treasurer Amy Wills Gray of Michigan.

Amy Gray is no stranger to running these types of organizations as she is listed as a treasurer for over half a dozen different Democrat Super PACs, all of which are registered to the same small town PO Box in her hometown.

As part of her work, Gray transacts millions of dollars in dark money deals through these PACs. For example, she received over a quarter-million dollars in donations from two of the most notorious dark money donors, George Soros and Amy Goldman Fowler.

Additionally, Gray’s ‘OpenSecrets’ employment history reveals deep ties to the Clintons. She worked alongside Hillary for over a decade through her PAC work and even under direct employment.

In addition to running PatriotTakes, Gray is currently in charge of the Super PAC ‘Ready For Hillary‘ where, interestingly, they made zero expenditures for or against any candidate.

Instead, expenses went solely towards salaries and consulting. This raises the question of money laundering and misappropriation of PAC funds.

Illinois State Police (ISP) are investigating mob violence against a trooper that happened early Sunday in Chicago. Multiple news outlets fact-checked a viral image of a fake tweet by former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe about Hillary Clinton.

The viral image appeared on social media after Abe was shot and killed on Friday while delivering a campaign speech on the street in Nara in western Japan. The purported tweet was made to look as though it came from an account with the Twitter handle “@ShinzoAbe,” was sent hours before the assassination, and featured Japanese characters with a supposed Google translation to English reading,"I have information that will lead to the arrest of Hillary Clinton."
