Mexican President AMLO Lectures Americans: Reject ‘Conservatism,’ Accept ‘Transformation’

Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) lectured American citizens on Tuesday, urging them to reject “conservative” and embrace “transformation.”

During a press conference with President Joe Biden, AMLO attacked “the conservatives” in the United States for their opposition to the administration’s globalist agenda on energy, trade, and immigration.

“I know that your adversaries — the conservatives — are going to be screaming all over the place, even to heaven,” AMLO said. “They’re going to be yelling at heaven.”

“In the face of this crisis, the way out is not through conservatism,” he continued. “The way out is through transformation. We have to be bold in our actions. Transform not maintain the status quo.”

Instead of defending Americans, Biden seemingly agreed with AMLO.

“We have liberals, moderates, conservatives, and extreme conservatives,” Biden said. “I’m waiting for the Republican Party to come back to traditional conservative positions. We have to start to talk with them, to one another, in this country, with respect.”

AMLO also suggested that “it is indispensable” for Biden and Congress to pass amnesty for illegal aliens living in the U.S.

“It is indispensable for us to regularize and give certainty to migrants that have for years lived and worked in a very honest manner, and who are also contributing to the development of this great nation,” AMLO said.

In May, more than 222,000 border crossers and illegal aliens were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border — the largest level of monthly illegal immigration since the Clinton administration. Since Biden took office, his administration has released over a million border crossers and illegal aliens into American communities.

Tuesday on FNC’s “Your World,” White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci said the COVID-19 vaccines did not perform “over well” against infection of the virus.

Instead, he argued the vaccine helped protect from the symptoms of the virus.

“Let me ask you about this because when people heard, oh, my gosh, this happened to Dr. Anthony Fauci, everyone knows someone who’s gotten this again, and sometimes again after that,” host Neil Cavuto said. “And they’re beginning to wonder about the regimen for treating it, whether you get two vaccination shots, whether you get a booster, another booster. They just don’t know. What do you tell them?”

“Well, that’s a great question. And thank you for giving me the opportunity to clarify it, Neil,” Fauci replied. “There’s no doubt that the vaccines themselves, particularly vaccine plus a booster at the appropriate time when you become eligible for a booster, for more than one booster — if you’re over 50 years old, you get eligibility for two boosters.

“One of the things that’s clear from the data is that, even though vaccines, because of the high degree of transmissibility of this virus, don’t protect overly well, as it were, against infection, they protect quite well against severe disease leading to hospitalization and death,” he added. “And I believe that’s the reason, Neil, why, at my age, being vaccinated and boosted, even though it didn’t protect me against infection, I feel confident that it made a major role in protecting me from progressing to severe disease,” he added. “And that’s very likely why I had a relatively mild course.”

TikTok admits Australian data can be accessed in China, prompting warnings app may be compromised

The federal Treasurer says he is concerned that social media platform TikTok's China-based employees are able to access Australian user data.

Responding to a letter from Shadow Cyber Security Minister James Paterson, TikTok admitted its staff in China were able to access Australian data.

"Our security teams minimise the number of people who have access to data and limit it only to people who need that access in order to do their jobs," the company's Australian director of public policy, Brent Thomas, wrote.

"We have policies and procedures that limit internal access to Australian user data by our employees, wherever they're based, based on need.

"We have never provided Australian user data to the Chinese government, we have never been asked for Australian user data by the Chinese government, and we would not provide it if we were asked."

The letter comes after reports in US media that American TikTok data was able to be accessed and had been accessed in mainland China.

Senator Paterson said TikTok's claim that Australian data cannot be compromised was not credible.

"TikTok denies they would ever hand over data to the Chinese Communist Party but this is very hard to believe given their national security laws," he wrote.

"It's time the Albanese government woke up and took action to protect the privacy of 7 million Australian users."

Treasurer Jim Chalmers told TikTok users to be careful about what they did on the platform.

"Those concerns have been there for some time, and we take advice from our various national security agencies," Mr Chalmers said.

"Australians need to be careful online and we need to recognise the risks of participating in some of those platforms."

Chinese law requires TikTok to share user data

Chinese cyber security laws require Chinese companies to store certain data and allow Chinese authorities to conduct spot checks of their operations.

The laws also compel social media companies to hand over information if requested by Beijing.

Biden Backs Canada Helping Restart Russian Pipeline After Killing US Pipeline Projects

President Joe Biden’s administration is supporting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision to ship natural gas pipeline equipment to Germany, which will lead to the European economic hub importing more Russian natural gas.

State Department spokesman Ned Price expressed Washington’s support for the move in a statement Monday.

Trudeau’s government plans to ship the equipment for the Nord Stream 1 pipeline back to Germany after it had been kept in Montreal due to sanctions on Russian gas, according to Bloomberg. The decision is aimed at preventing serious economic turmoil in Germany due to high energy prices.

“We support the Canadian government’s decision to return a natural-gas turbine to Germany for use in the Nord Stream 1 pipeline,” Price said, adding that the move “will allow Germany and other European countries to replenish their gas reserves, increasing their energy security and resiliency and countering Russia’s efforts to weaponize energy.”

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck told Bloomberg that Russia would use the sanctioned turbines to shut down the Nord Stream pipeline entirely, crushing Germany’s capacity to store fuel before the winter.

European gas prices fell after the announcement, Bloomberg reported. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said the decision was “dangerous” in a statement released July 10.

Despite supporting the continued use of Russia’s Nord Stream 1 pipeline, Biden has opposed constructing new pipelines in the U.S., and he put a stop to the completion of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Second Democrat Louisiana Judge Blocks State Trigger Law, Allows Abortions to Resume

Democrat Louisiana District Judge Donald Johnson has ruled that abortions may resume in Louisiana, despite a trigger law that went into effect restricting most abortions.

The law was written so that if Roe v. Wade was overturned, virtually all abortions in the state would be immediately banned — unless the mother is at risk of death or permanent injury.

On July 12, Judge Johnson issued a temporary restraining order that blocked the state law.

On July 18, a hearing will take place at the 19th Judicial District Courthouse in East Baton Rouge Parish, during which he will decide if he will grant a preliminary injunction.

Judge Johnson is the second in the state to block the law.

Days after the Supreme Court ruling, another Democrat judge, Judge Robin Giarrusso of the Orleans Parish Civil District Court issued an order temporarily halting the law after abortion providers in the state filed a lawsuit. However, as WFAB reports, State District Judge Ethel Julien lifted that order arguing that the lawsuit should have been filed in the state capital, Baton Rouge, instead of New Orleans.

Abortion providers represented by Center for Reproductive Rights argued that “the abortion restrictions violate providers’ due process rights and ‘lack constitutionally required safeguards to prevent arbitrary enforcement,'” according to a report from Fox News. They also claimed the laws were vague and did not set a specific start time for the law to be applied.

“A public health emergency is about to engulf the nation. As expected, Louisiana and many other states wasted no time enacting bans and eliminating abortion entirely,” Nancy Northup, president and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights, said in a statement obtained by Axios.

“People who need an abortion right now are in a state of panic. We will be fighting to restore access in Louisiana and other states for as long as we can. Every day that a clinic is open and providing abortion services can make a difference in a person’s life,” Northup continued.

Benjamin Clapper of Louisiana Right to Life issued a statement saying that “it is disappointing that another judge is preventing laws supported by our citizens and their legislators from being enforced to protect babies from abortion. These delays mean that innocent babies targeted for abortion are back in the crosshairs at for-profit abortion businesses. The lawsuit is frivolous and wastes taxpayer dollars. We look forward to our law being vindicated and lives being protected.”

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry has vowed to fight the lawsuit and defend the trigger law.

For now, abortions are legal in the state.

Some California truckers who move containers in and out of the marine terminals at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach say they plan to participate in a work stoppage Wednesday to protest a controversial state law, AB5, that seeks to limit the use of independent contractors and largely classify them as employee drivers.

On June 28, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the California Trucking Association’s challenge to AB5, returning the case to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

“During the pandemic, we were too busy being essential to realize we were about to be screwed by AB5,” the California trucker, who didn’t want to be named for fear of retaliation, told FreightWaves.

Oakland truckers plan Monday protest

To the north, multiple trucking companies hauling containers in and out of the Port of Oakland have been notified by owner-operators that they are planning a work stoppage on Monday.

Bill Aboudi, president of AB Trucking, says he switched to an employee business model a few years ago, but with the fallout from AB5 looming, many trucking companies that serve the port are choosing to close, sell or move their operations out of California.

“Some of the older owner-operators, who just love to drive and want to remain independent, don’t want to jump through all of these extra government hoops to set up their own corporations and pay themselves a set salary and everything else to comply with AB5, so they are leaving the industry,” Aboudi told FreightWaves.

Some of the younger independents are choosing to do something else, either find a job in another industry or leave California entirely to truck elsewhere, Aboudi said.

“I had one guy tell me he was going back to his old job as a cook and is leaving port trucking,” Aboudi said. “We think inflation is high right now; just wait until the cost of operating a trucking business skyrockets if we don’t get AB5 off the books.”

Transformer explosion next to State House injures two Eversource workersA transformer explosion occurred Tuesday evening near the Massachusetts State House. Two Eversource workers were injured, according to The Boston Fire Department, and they were brought to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The incident happened across from 37 Bowdoin St., where the Italian restaurant Grotto is located.

One of the workers had serious injuries, WCVB reported.

The explosion happened while the two workers performed regular maintenance on a transformer, WHDH reported.

“It was a transformer that they were doing routine work on, it was not a manhole explosion,” Boston Fire Commissioner Paul Burke told the station.

In a video posted to Twitter by State House News Service, a large plume of smoke can be seen billowing from an underground area. Loud noises reportedly preceded the smoke.

Biden tries to scare Americans over court's abortion ruling. Truth is more complicated.

"Consider the challenge accepted, Court." Those defiant words by President Joe Biden last week were meant to rally a possibly anemic political base to, in the words of the president, "vote, vote, vote, vote."

Ironically, it was the only part of the president's remarks that is consistent with what the Supreme Court actually said in its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. In overturning Roe v. Wade, the court ruled that millions of citizens, not nine justices, must now decide the question of abortion.

In its decision, the court said that in 1973 "Roe abruptly ended (a) political process" of states dealing with the issue of abortion. It now has returned the matter to the states and said basically "have at it." The court did not outlaw abortion or favor any particular outcome beyond telling people to vote, vote, vote, vote.
