‘Jews’ series of Historical Archives of Secretariat of State published online

At the request of Pope Francis, the virtual reproduction of a collection preserving the requests for help addressed to Pope Pius XII by Jews from all over Europe after the beginning of Nazi-Fascist persecution is now accessible to all. It consists of a total of170 volumes, or nearly 40,000 files. Only 70% of the total material will be initially available, but will later be supplemented with the final volumes currently being prepared.

The documents

A special documentary heritage that distinguishes itself from other archival series, already from the name assigned to it: “Ebrei” (Jews). A heritage that is precious because it gathers the requests for help sent to Pope Pius XII by Jewish people, both the baptized and the non-baptized, after the beginning of Nazi and fascist persecution. A heritage which, at the request of Pope Francis, is now easily accessible to the entire world thanks to a project aimed at publishing the complete digitalized version of the archival series.

It is the “Ebrei” series of the Historical Archive of the Secretariat of State – Section for Relations with States and International Organizations (ASRS). The series of 170 volumes in total are part of the Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs Collection (AA.EE.SS.) related to the Pontificate of Pius XII — Part 1 (1939-1948), and already available for consultation since 2 March 2020, in the Reading Room of the Historical Archive, by worldwide scholars.

The then Sacred Congregation for the Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs (from which the archival Collection gets its name), equivalent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, charged a diplomatic minutante (Msgr Angelo Dell’Acqua) to manage the requests for help that were addressed to the Pope from all over Europe, with the aim of providing all the help possible.

Requests could be made to obtain visas or passports to expatriate, find asylum, reunify families, obtain liberation from detention and transfers from one concentration camp to another, receive news regarding deported people, supplies of food or clothing, financial support, spiritual support and much more.

Carbon Monoxide Deaths?

Carbon monoxide is a byproduct of incomplete combustion (low oxygen levels) and CO poisoning/death can happen with poorly maintained furnaces, enclosed spaces, etc. But at a Sandals Resort in the Bahama's? It may have been possible for the incident in SA because its winter (see photos). But how cold could it have been inside a club full of dancing teenagers? And wouldn't they have wanted to keep it relatively cool in there, ie., not having a furnace blasting? East London, South Africa forecast nighttime low temperatures June 29 - July 2 are 45 - 55 degrees F....

Vietnam arrests minister, mayor over Covid scandal

Vietnam's police have arrested the health minister and Hanoi mayor following accusations they were involved in a US$170 million coronavirus test-kit scandal, the public security ministry said Tuesday.

The arrests come as the Communist nation ramps up an anti-corruption drive in the wake of the Viet A scandal, in which officials were bribed to supply hospitals with vastly overpriced Covid-19 test kits.

The Public Security Ministry issued an arrest warrant late Tuesday for health minister Ngoc Anh over accusations of "violating regulations on management and use of State assets, causing loss and waste" during his term as minister of science and technology, according to a statement on the public security ministry website.

A warrant has also been issued for Hanoi mayor Nguyen Thanh Long for "abusing positions and powers while performing official duties".

"After being approved by the Supreme People's Procuracy, the Ministry of Public Security has implemented the decisions and orders in accordance with law," the statement on the website added.

The pair were stripped of their Communist Party membership on Monday, with authorities removing both from their positions earlier today before arresting them.

Several other provincial Centres for Disease Control (CDC) officials have been arrested in recent months over their involvement and approval of making, producing and using Viet A's coronavirus test-kits.

Viet A's director-general, Phan Quoc Viet, faces charges of bribing health officials to sell the company's kits to hospitals and provincial CDCs at prices significantly higher than the production cost, netting $172 million – $34 million of which was ploughed back into bribery.

What will happen with Warren Buffett’s billions when he dies? Some of it might go to every kid on the planet.

So reports the Wall Street Journal in a recent investigation of the future of Buffett’s fortune, which is worth $96.8 billion at the time of this article's publication. In 2006, the Berkshire Hathaway CEO pledged to give away 85% of his stock in the company to charity, designating the majority of it to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Four years later, he vowed to redistribute 99% of his wealth to philanthropy during or after his lifetime.

Of Buffett's $90 billion Berkshire stake, $56 billion will go to the Gates Foundation and $17.4 billion to four family charities, leaving an uncommitted $18.7 billion—all numbers the Journal says could climb if Berkshire shares continue to perform the way they have been. He reportedly wants his billions spent within 10 years of his death.

Gates Foundation staffers have been banking on receiving the full amount of both Buffett’s pledged shares and remaining unpledged shares, the Journal reported, having spent years figuring out where to put the money since some Gates Foundation grant recipients were already maxed out.

One proposed solution was to create a world children's savings bank. The exact amount allocated to each child wasn’t disclosed, but a former Gates Foundation employee told the Journal that each child would receive thousands of dollars that “sit on a shelf, like a battle plan” for baby beneficiaries.

But Buffett, who turns 92 this year, hasn’t yet disclosed the nitty-gritty of how his wealth will be split after his death; estate planning experts told the Journal his pledge letter was a bit ambiguous. The investigation found that Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, a family charity that supports abortion rights, has been hiring staff and planning for a “massive influx of money” as high as $100 billion—meaning it may inherit some of the windfall the Gates Foundation has been anticipating.

Officials from the Gates Foundation and the Buffett Foundation didn’t respond to Fortune’s requests for comment, and Buffett told the Journal there were inaccuracies in its reporting. But, if the Gates Foundation does receive enough money to distribute a cut to every child, it would help even the world’s socioeconomic playing field and possibly provide parents with the financial safety net they need to have kids in today's economy.

As the cost of living soars, paying for one’s own expenses is becoming more and more unaffordable, let alone those for another human being. Finances are partly why the percentage of U.S. non-parents ages 18 to 49 who say it’s not likely or not at all likely that they will have kids has increased by 7% since 2018 to 44% in 2022, per the Pew Research Center. The cost of raising a child in the U.S. sets parents back more than $280,000 on average.

It’s contributing to the birth rate decline in the US that has been ongoing for over a decade, as more debt-saddled and recession-afflicted millennials delay having kids until they get their finances in order. The drop in births is a worldwide trend among more developed nations; in China, for example, the birth rate fell for the fifth year in a row in 2021.

As wealth inequality and the pay gap widened during the pandemic, a growing number of billionaires have been thinking of more inventive ways to allocate their assets. That includes the idea of a more equitable distribution of money, beginning with kids. It's even reaching the Senate—the Democrat-backed American Opportunity Accounts Act, a proposal that addresses the racial wealth divide by introducing $1,000 baby bonds for all newborns in the U.S.

If Gates staffers carry through with such plans for a worldwide children’s bank, Buffett’s billions could have the same effect across the globe.

The featured fisheye all-sky image, taken a few mornings ago near the town of San Pedro de Atacama in Chile, caught not only the entire planet parade, but the Moon between Mars and Venus. In order, left to right along the ecliptic plane, members of this Solar System family portrait are Earth, Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter, Mars, Uranus, Venus, Mercury, and Earth. To emphasize their locations, Neptune and Uranus have been artificially enhanced. The volcano just below Mercury is Licancabur. In July, Mercury will move into the Sun's glare but reappear a few days later on the evening side. Then, in August, Saturn will drift past the direction opposite the Sun and so become visible at dusk instead of dawn. The next time that all eight planets will be simultaneously visible in the evening sky will be in 2122.

The White House responded to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade by promoting a website advising children how to hide their abortions from their parents.

“If you need information on your state’s laws or legal help, you may consider this website: AbortionFinder.org,” the Department of Health and Human Services advised in a published release to the press that was also promoted by the White House.

The website informs children 15 years old or younger that parental requirement laws demand that parents and guardians must be involved with the decision to have an abortion.

“If you need to avoid involving a parent or guardian, contact the If/When/How Judicial Bypass Helpline for information about getting a judicial bypass,” the website advises.

The website was recently assembled by abortion supporters to simplify the process for people to get abortions.

“We made Abortion Finder because we saw firsthand that for too many people, the process of figuring out where and how to get an abortion is confusing, complicated, and overwhelming,” the organizers wrote on their website. “We want it to be easier.”

The website partners with the National Abortion Federation (NAF), Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), and Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH).

The website also offers advice about how to prepare for an abortion, what to bring, what to expect, and how to physically recover from the procedure.

“Avoid any substances that will alter your mental state, like alcohol, cannabis, or other drugs, on the day of your abortion,” the website advises.

The last surviving Medal of Honor recipient from World War II has passed on from this life at 98 years old. Marine veteran Hershel “Woody” Williams died Wednesday at 3:15 a.m. at the Huntington, West Virginia, Veterans Affairs hospital named after him, according to a statement from his foundation. “Woody peacefully joined his beloved wife Ruby while surrounded by his family at the VA Medical Center which bears his name,” according to the statement on the foundation’s Facebook page. “Woody’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude for all the love and support.”

SCRANTON (DOJ) – The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that James Charles Meininger, Jr., age 37, of Kingston, Pennsylvania, was indicted today by a federal grand jury for mailing threatening communications.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the indictment alleges that, in October of 2021, Meininger mailed letters to General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen H. Hicks, threatening to kidnap and injure both of those officials along with Senator Nancy Pelosi. The indictment also alleges Meininger sent a threatening letter to a news journalist in Wilkes-Barre.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean A. Camoni is prosecuting the case.

The total maximum penalty under federal law for these offenses is 25 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.

Chief Presidential Medical Adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci said Tuesday that he experienced a so-called “Paxlovid rebound” after he took the antiviral to help his recovery from COVID.

The symptoms he developed after he took the pill were more severe than those he had initially, he said.

“After I finished the five days of Paxlovid, I reverted to negative on an antigen test for three days in a row,” Fauci, 81, said during an event at Foreign Policy’s Global Health Forum, Bloomberg reported. “And then on the fourth day, just to be absolutely certain, I tested myself again.”

“I reverted back to positive,” he said.

California DOJ Breaks Silence After Massive Leak Of Gun Owners’ Private Info

The California Department of Justice broke its silence Wednesday after the names, drivers license numbers, addresses and other private information of thousands of gun owners in the state was leaked from a gun database.

The state Department of Justice is providing credit monitoring services for gun owners whose private information was exposed by the leak.

“DOJ will directly contact individuals who have been impacted by this incident and will provide instructions to sign up for this service,” the DOJ said in the statement.

The leak exposed the private information of all gun owners who applied for a concealed carry permit between the years 2011 and 2021. The information exposed included the names, date of birth, gender, race, driver’s license number, addresses and criminal history of the gun owners.

Thousands of civilians, including 244 judges and 420 reserve officers were exposed in the leak.

Information was compromised from the contents of five other gun registries, including the Assault Weapon Registry, Handguns Certified for Sale, Dealer Record of Sale, Firearm Certificate Safety and Gun Violence Restraining Order.

“DOJ is investigating the extent to which any personally identifiable information could have been exposed from those dashboards and will report additional information as soon as confirmed,” the statement said.

The social security numbers of those on the list were not leaked, according to the DOJ.

“This unauthorized release of personal information is unacceptable and falls far short of my expectations for this department,” Attorney General Rob Bonta said. “I immediately launched an investigation into how this occurred at the California Department of Justice and will take strong corrective measures where necessary.

“I am deeply disturbed and angered,” Bonta said.

Those in possession of or using the private information leaked from the registry are guilty of a crime, the DOJ said, referring to California penal code 530.5. The code stipulates that “Every person who willfully obtains personal identifying information … shall be punished by a fine, by imprisonment in a county jail not to exceed one year, or by both a fine and imprisonment.”

Aidan Johnson, director of Federal Affairs at Gun Owners of America, told the Daily Caller the leak represented a serious lack of regard for the privacy of California gun owners.

“This ‘mistake’ by anti-gun Californian bureaucrats demonstrates either serious negligence or blatant disregard for the privacy of citizens who wish to defend themselves with a firearm in public,” Johnson said. “Gun owner registries, especially of those licensed to carry firearms in public, are a dangerous infringement on the Second Amendment.”

The Treasury Department on Wednesday announced the delivery of $1.3 billion in economic aid to Ukraine, as the United States seeks to help the beleaguered nation respond to the enormous financial impact of Russia’s invasion.

Ukraine faces a monthly budget deficit of $5 billion and has sustained more than $100 billion in direct damage to its civilian infrastructure alone, according to analysts at the Kyiv School of Economics. The World Bank previously estimated that Ukraine’s economy could contract by as much as 45 percent this year.

The $1.3 billion represents more than double what the United States had previously approved through any prior grant of economic assistance to Ukraine, although the Biden administration has already devoted billions in military assistance to the country as well. A Dutch Pro-Pedophilia Activist Has Been Charged With Sexually Abusing ‘Dozens’ of Minors

Marthijn Uittenbogaard and his husband were arrested in Ecuador

Marthijn Uittenbogaard, a Dutch national who has called for pedophilia to be “de-stigmatized,” has been arrested in Ecuador on charges of sexually abusing “dozens” of children within the country. According to Reduxx, the 50-year-old was arrested outside of the town of Canoa after a brief manhunt.

The Transnational Crime Investigation Unitof the National Police of Ecuador arrested Uittenbogaard after receiving multiple reports.

Uittenbogaard allegedly lured several minors to his residence, many of whom would stay for extended periods of time. They were allegedly lured into the home under promises of playing video games, where they were then coerced into sex acts with promises of money and sweets.

The Dutch national is also accused of luring several minors to parties at his pool, where they were then groped and sexually assaulted.

Authorities recovered numerous devices that contained evidence of the abuse upon his arrest, authorities said.

“The pedophile’s capture is said to have been a direct result of the arrest of one of his colleagues in Mexico earlier this month,” Reduxx reported.

Nelson Maatman, a friend of Uittenbogaard who also wants to “de-stigmatize” pedophilia, was arrested in Mexico City earlier this month. An anonymous tip was handed to the Mexican prosecutor’s office indicating that he intended to purchase an adolescent and sell child sexual exploitation material, which led to his arrest on June 5.

Maatman was in possession of four terabytes of child sexual abuse material across a number of external storage devices, Reduxx reported. Maatman was also in possession of photos of children, a weapon, and drugs when he was apprehended.

Uittenbogaard was arrested along with his husband, Lesley, who previously had been imprisoned in their home country for creating child sexual abuse material. The pair were among a number of pro-pedophilia Dutch nationals who fled the Netherlands earlier this year.

Comedian Nick Nemeroff died suddenly Monday at age 32, his family announced.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother Nick Nemeroff,” the statement on Instagram read.

“Nick’s dedication to standup comedy was formidable, and produced amazing results.”

No cause of death has been revealed.

However, Canada’s CBC News reported that his manager, Morgan Flood of Grand Wave Entertainment, said that Nemeroff “died in his sleep.”

The Canadian-born comedian made appearances on “Conan,” performed at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal and was part of CBC Gem’s “The New Wave of Standup.” Nemeroff was recently seen on Season 2 of CTV Comedy’s “Roast Battle Canada.”

His first comedy album, “The Pursuit of Comedy Has Ruined My Life,” was released in 2020 and led him to be a Juno Award nominee in 2021 for comedy album of the year.

Nemeroff attended the Royal West Academy and graduated from the radio and television program at Toronto Metropolitan University, formerly known as Ryerson, according to Deadline.

“He drew acclaim in Canada and the US, becoming both a ‘comic’s comic’ and a hit with crowds who were enamored by his unique cadence, labyrinthine deadpan, and fresh take on misdirection-driven comedy,” his family wrote on Instagram.

“If Nick was on a comedy show, he was guaranteed to leave with new fans. And he deserved to, because comedy was, in many ways, his life,” the statement continued. “Endlessly sweet, supportive of others, humble about his many skills and achievements, Nick lived his life doing what he loved, and that is how he will be remembered. RIP Nick. We love you.”

Nemeroff’s agency, Grand Wave Entertainment, released a statement on Twitter, writing, “We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Nick Nemeroff.”

The date and time of the funeral have yet to be announced. His family asked that, in lieu of flowers, “donations in his memory may be made to the Planned Parenthood chapter of your choice,” explaining that “one of the last things Nick did was to donate money to Planned Parenthood.”

Several of Nemeroff’s friends and comedy colleagues took to social media to mourn his loss.

“It’s a devastating day for those who knew him,” comic Jon Dore wrote. “Nick Nemeroff was a beautiful man. My condolences to his family and everyone in the comedy world. I admired him greatly.”

“SNL” cast member Sarah Sherman tweeted that he “was the sweetest and funniest guy ever,” and encouraged her followers to listen to his album.

“One of the absolute funniest guys and just a totally gentle and genuine human being too. This one hurts,” comedian John Cullen said.

“This is incredibly sad news @nicknemeroff was so original, kind, and so funny,” comedian Matt O’Brien wrote. “I can’t believe this.”

NASA Shares Image Of Crashed UFO On Moon

NASA has shared images of an unidentified spacecraft that has crashed into the moon.

The spacecraft has left two large craters on the planet, which NASA has said is ‘unlike anything it's seen before’.

While no one has come forward to claim the rocket yet, one astronomer is convinced it hails from China.

NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spotted the spacecraft and started tracking it through space back in 2015. The rocket crashed onto the moon on 4 March and was travelling at over five kilometres per second.

The space agency published a post about the unidentified spacecraft on 24 June alongside photos of the crash site.

NASA wrote in part: “Surprisingly the crater is actually two craters, an eastern crater (18-metre diameter, about 19.5 yards) superimposed on a western crater (16-metre diameter, about 17.5 yards).

“The double crater was unexpected and may indicate that the body had large masses at each end.

“Typically a spent rocket has mass concentrated at the motor end; the rest of the rocket stage mainly consists of an empty fuel tank.”

The post added: “Since the origin of the rocket body remains uncertain, the double nature of the crater may indicate its identity.”

Astronomer Bill Gray is convinced he knows where the spacecraft came from, telling the BBC: “I'm 99.9 percent sure it's the China 5-T1,” although China has denied this.

As previously reported in an exclusive June 20 report, evidence proves that “plainclothes” members of a special Electronic Surveillance Unit (ESU) were embedded among Jan. 6, 2021, protesters for the purposes of conducting video surveillance. According to experts, one believes the activity itself may have been against the law. The other contends it was done for the purpose of entrapment.

Against the Law?

Speaking as a former prosecutor and three-term District Judge, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) told The Epoch Times, “if you’re going to have electronic surveillance of people there has to be warrants.”

As Gohmert explained, “FISA courts have granted warrants,” with “no particular clarity” and “no probable cause that a crime’s been committed or that this person engaged in a crime.”

Gohmert surmised: “When you see confirmed judges are just willing to completely abrogate the U.S. Constitution because they’re the star chamber of the secret court, and they figure nobody will ever find out what they’re doing, then you know when you see there’s an Electronic Surveillance Unit, well, something’s not right.”

Gohmert’s concerns with the ESU surveillance are two-fold:

1. Were the legally required warrants obtained?

2. If so, how could a judge approve a warrant for surveillance before a crime has been committed and with no probable cause?

“We can’t have secret units doing secret surveillance of people that have committed no crime, no probable cause of a crime. Just getting blanket surveillance,” Gohmert asserted. “We don’t know what kind of warrant they had or even if they had warrants. But to deploy Electronic Surveillance Units tells us there’s a lot more here that we need to find out about and obviously it’s not going to be uncovered at least for another six months.”

But Gohmert added that “there is also more information we haven’t gotten and information that continues to leak outdrip by drip.”

Dr. Madej had just texted me on Thursday to state that she would not be doing public speaking events for several months as the medical board is coming after her full force.

According to Alive 11:

WARM SPRINGS, Ga. — The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a plane crash in Meriwether County on Sunday.

A pilot and passenger crashed at Roosevelt Memorial Airport in Warm Springs after reporting engine trouble. The two landed in the field north of the airport, according to the FAA.

It happened around 2:15 p.m. The FAA said they were flying a single-engine Piper PA-24.

According to Michael Watson, the chairman for the Meriwether County Airport Authority, the flight was on the way from St. Petersburg, Florida, near Tampa, to Newnan-Coweta County Airport when it experienced an engine issue as the plane started its descent. The flight was diverted south to Warm Springs, but crashed. Flight tracking website Flight Aware shows the path of the flight before the crash.

The FAA is working with the National Transportation Safety Board to determine a cause for the crash. Neither agency would provide specifics of the investigation.

There was no information about the condition of the two on board.

I have confirmed that Dr. Madej is in ICU and that she is expected to be released possibly on Tuesday.

Savannah Daisley, 45, faced Waverley Local Court on Tuesday charged with four counts of having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old child, allegedly in the 24 hours before 5pm on May 20 last year.

The Instagram influencer, who is the daughter of celebrated horse breeder Ross Daisley, strongly denies the accusations and intends to plead not guilty to all charges.

Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge denied Daisley bail, saying the allegations were 'quite disturbing', The Daily Telegraph reports.

Pierre de Dassel, Daisley's defence lawyer, said the report against his client was made 'in spite', and it was an 'oath vs oath' case.

'There is motivation around the timing of it that really affects the credibility and strength of the case,' he said.

The court heard Daisley's father, who bred internationally renowned thoroughbred racehorse Choisir, would put up $10,000 bail for his daughter, who was willing to report to police daily.

Prosecutor Daniel Richardson argued bail should be opposed, telling the court an officer in charge of the case told him about a phone call between Daisley and the alleged victim.

The company went under as it couldn’t raise the $200 million it needed to continue operating and has urged customers to pull out their money

An Australian bank that collapsed has urged its 6000 customers to withdraw $100 million worth of deposits before it starts closing accounts from next Tuesday.

Volt, a digital bank called a neobank which was launched in 2017, announced it was handing back its banking licence to the regulator on Wednesday.

It was the first start up to gain the banking licence in January 2019 after the government sought to increase competition in the sector.

The bank’s demise means 140 staff have lost their jobs after the board made the decision to close the business. It said it failed to raise enough funds to support its plans to write mortgages.

On Monday March 9, in an effort to address soaring patient demand in Boston, Partners HealthCare went live with a hotline for patients, clinicians, and anyone else with questions and concerns about Covid-19. The goals are to identify and reassure the people who do not need additional care (the vast majority of callers), to direct people with less serious symptoms to relevant information and virtual care options, and to direct the smaller number of high-risk and higher-acuity patients to the most appropriate resources, including testing sites, newly created respiratory illness clinics, or in certain cases, emergency departments. As the hotline became overwhelmed, the average wait time peaked at 30 minutes. Many callers gave up before they could speak with the expert team of nurses staffing the hotline. We were missing opportunities to facilitate pre-hospital triage to get the patient to the right care setting at the right time.

The Partners team, led by Lee Schwamm, Haipeng (Mark) Zhang, and Adam Landman, began considering technology options to address the growing need for patient self-triage, including interactive voice response systems and chatbots. We connected with Providence St. Joseph Health system in Seattle, which served some of the country’s first Covid-19 patients in early March. In collaboration with Microsoft, Providence built an online screening and triage tool that could rapidly differentiate between those who might really be sick with Covid-19 and those who appear to be suffering from less threatening ailments. In its first week, Providence’s tool served more than 40,000 patients, delivering care at an unprecedented scale.

Our team saw potential for this type of AI-based solution and worked to make a similar tool available to our patient population. The Partners Covid-19 Screener provides a simple, straightforward chat interface, presenting patients with a series of questions based on content from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Partners HealthCare experts. In this way, it too can screen enormous numbers of people and rapidly differentiate between those who might really be sick with Covid-19 and those who are likely to be suffering from less threatening ailments. We anticipate this AI bot will alleviate high volumes of patient traffic to the hotline, and extend and stratify the system’s care in ways that would have been unimaginable until recently. Development is now under way to facilitate triage of patients with symptoms to most appropriate care setting, including virtual urgent care, primary care providers, respiratory illness clinics, or the emergency department. Most importantly, the chatbot can also serve as a near instantaneous dissemination method for supporting our widely distributed providers, as we have seen the need for frequent clinical triage algorithm updates based on a rapidly changing landscape.

Similarly, at both Brigham and Women’s Hospital and at Massachusetts General Hospital, physician researchers are exploring the potential use of intelligent robots developed at Boston Dynamics and MIT to deploy in Covid surge clinics and inpatient wards to perform tasks (obtaining vital signs or delivering medication) that would otherwise require human contact in an effort to mitigate disease transmission.

AI Initiatives are Already Emerging

Several governments and hospital systems around the world have leveraged AI-powered sensors to support triage in sophisticated ways. Chinese technology company Baidu developed a no-contact infrared sensor system to quickly single out individuals with a fever, even in crowds. Beijing’s Qinghe railway station is equipped with this system to identify potentially contagious individuals, replacing a cumbersome manual screening process. Similarly, Florida’s Tampa General Hospital deployed an AI system in collaboration with Care.ai at its entrances to intercept individuals with potential Covid-19 symptoms from visiting patients. Through cameras positioned at entrances, the technology conducts a facial thermal scan and picks up on other symptoms, including sweat and discoloration, to ward off visitors with fever.

Beyond screening, AI is being used to monitor Covid-19 symptoms, provide decision support for CT scans, and automate hospital operations. Meanwhile, Zhongnan Hospital in China uses an AI-driven CT scan interpreter that identifies Covid-19 when radiologists aren’t available. China’s Wuhan Wuchang Hospital established a smart field hospital staffed largely by robots. Patient vital signs were monitored using connected thermometers and bracelet-like devices. Intelligent robots delivered medicine and food to patients, alleviating physician exposure to the virus and easing the workload of health care workers experiencing exhaustion. And in South Korea, the government released an app allowing users to self-report symptoms, alerting them if they leave a “quarantine zone” in order to curb the impact of “super-spreaders” who would otherwise go on to infect large populations.

Digital Transformation Now

The spread of Covid-19 is stretching operational systems in health care and beyond. We have seen shortages of everything, from masks and gloves to ventilators, and from emergency room capacity to ICU beds to the speed and reliability of internet connectivity. The reason is both simple and terrifying: Our economy and health care systems are geared to handle linear, incremental demand, while the virus grows at an exponential rate. Our national health system cannot keep up with this kind of explosive demand without the rapid and large-scale adoption of digital operating models.

While we race to dampen the virus’s spread, we can optimize our response mechanisms, digitizing as many steps as possible. This is because traditional processes — those that rely on people to function in the critical path of signal processing — are constrained by the rate at which we can train, organize, and deploy human labor. Moreover, traditional processes deliver decreasing returns as they scale. On the other hand, digital systems can be scaled up without such constraints, at virtually infinite rates. The only theoretical bottlenecks are computing power and storage capacity — and we have plenty of both. Digital systems can keep pace with exponential growth.

From the AI bots deployed by Providence and Partners HealthCare to the Smart Field Hospital in Wuhan, rapid digital transformation is being employed to tackle the exponentially growing Covid threat. Big update on Dr. Zelenko:

Zev's numbers have miraculously improved and now the doctors believe he is 50/50 to live or die. Just a couple of hours ago they had everyone preparing to say their final goodbyes to him but then as everyone around him and all of you were praying his numbers began to drastically change!

The doctors still don't know how this is even happening but I think they have started to become believers at this point.

Here’s a woman, deciding to launch military action. Where are the Falkland Islands and where is Britain? And this was dictated by nothing but imperial ambitions.”
