Biden DOJ upset that Missouri made itself a sanctuary from federal gun rules; says state lacks authority to shield against enforcement of federal laws
With the stroke of his pen, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson (R) made the Show Me State a sanctuary from federal gun laws. No longer will Missouri law enforcement officials be allowed to enforce — or help the feds enforce — federal firearms rules.
But the move is not sitting well with President Joe Biden's Department of Justice, which made its displeasure known in a letter to Parson this week, telling the governor that a state does not have the authority to prevent the enforcement of federal law, the Associated Press reported.
What does the law do?
Much like cities and states that have declared they will not enforce federal immigration laws, Missouri has declared it will protect its citizens from what is sees as federal "overreach" when it comes to gun rights.
The Second Amendment Preservation Act prohibits police from enforcing or assisting federal authorities in enforcing federal gun rules. It also allows for anyone who believes his Second Amendment rights were violated by an officer enforcing federal laws to sue the relevant police department for $50,000, the Kansas City Star said.
When Parson, a former sheriff, signed the bill into law, he said he was sending a message to the feds in response to increased federal gun control regulations that are being pushed by the Biden administration.
"We're going to do things to make sure you don't overreach your authority from the federal government," he said, according to KCUR-FM.
How did the DOJ respond?
In a letter sent Wednesday night, the AP said, Justice Department officials told Missouri's elected leadership that the U.S. Constitution's Supremacy Clause supersedes Missouri's law.
Acting Assistant Attorney General Brian Boynton said in the letter that the new law "threatens to disrupt the working relationship between fedral and local authorities," the AP reported.
"The public safety of the people of the United States and citizens of Missouri is paramount," Boynton wrote.
According to the DOJ, Missouri lacks any authority to shield Missourians from federal law or to prevent law enforcement from carrying out federal laws.
Neither the DOJ letter nor the AP report on the letter bothered to mention that multiple state and local jurisdictions have declared themselves immigration sanctuary cities and are currently barring law enforcement from enforcing federal laws.
HotAir's Ed Morrissey pointed out that both the AP and DOJ were apparently incapable of understanding the point Parson was clearly making:
That's the context which the AP misses, but it as plain as the nose on one's face. If Parson had signed a bill declaring Missouri an immigration sanctuary state, Garland and the DoJ wouldn't have batted an eye about it. And yet, the same principle is true — states that ignore and refuse to cooperate with federal immigration law violate the Supremacy Clause, put public safety at risk, and should risk federal grants and technical assistance on that basis as well.
Amusingly, however, the AP never even mentions immigration or sanctuary status in its report. That is not just the clear context of Parson's move, it's also the precedent on which it's based. The Obama-Biden administration did nothing to discourage cities and states from refusing to cooperate with federal law on immigration; neither Eric Holder nor Loretta Lynch sent scolding reminders about the Supremacy Clause to the leaders of sanctuary cities and states.
The DOJ, Morrissey noted, is "awfully arbitrary about when they choose to get their panties in a twist" over the Supremacy Clause.

Adding to a growing list of evidence revealing otherwise, The National Pulse can reveal that Baric spoke at a Chinese Academy of Sciences event in 2015 discussing gain-of-function research – which can increases the transmissibility or lethality of a virus – alongside researchers working for China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
In addition to featuring high-level Wuhan Institute of Virology researchers, two individuals from the Academy of Military Medical Sciences were also in attendance.
The fifth session of the event was titled “Gain of Function Research” and featured a Chinese scientist lecturing on “Phosphorylation regulates the replication of influenza A virus” and American scientist David Franz delivering a lecture on the “NAS Gain-of-Function Meeting Report (The scientists’ view).”

It will be the first visit by Kohavi and he is expected to try to persuade the Americans not to reenter the Iranian deal
IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kohavi will fly to Washington on Sunday and discuss a range of regional challenges with his American counterparts, more than a month after he was set to go to discuss the Iranian threat and other regional challenges.
It will be the first trip by an Israeli official with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett leading the government. Kohavi will meet with Bennett ahead of his trip. They worked closely together during Bennett’s time as defense minister, and both are considered to be hawks on the Iran.
Kohavi is expected to attempt to persuade the Americans not to reenter the Iranian nuclear deal.
During the four-day visit Kohavi will hold working meetings with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, head of the US Central Command Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, and head of the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) Gen. Richard Clark.
During his trip, which will be his first as Israel’s top military officer, he will meet with his American counterparts to discuss common security challenges in the region, including issues related to the threat posed by the Iranian nuclear project, Tehran’s attempt to entrench itself in the Middle East, Hezbollah’s force-buildup efforts, and the implications of the Lebanese terror group’s precision missile project.
Kohavi will discuss joint force building with the United States and meet with leading think tanks and decision makers “as part of an ongoing international media and public diplomacy effort” that the IDF has been carrying out since the end of Operation Guardian of the Walls.
The visit to Washington that was scheduled to take place in April was postponed due to the conflict with Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip.
Kohavi will also present the main points of the IDF’s operational activities during the 11 days of fighting, with an “emphasis on the adjustments” that took place during the operation “in the context of fire capabilities, accurate intelligence, joint digital interoperability” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said.
The visit takes place after the decision to transfer Israel to CENTCOM’s area of responsibility and McKenzie’s visit to Israel last January.

My guess is 3 Lab workers did get sick in November… not from a Lab accident… but because they lived in Wuhan and Virus was reaching full steam about then, city-wide. Maybe even some tested positive in Oct and/or even Sep, not from Lab accident but from city. The 2018 report on Lab protocol/safety violations is likely as phony as all the other CCP/FAUCI lies. Remember that time when the mainstream media lied about former President Donald J. Trump, only to have Trump proven correct afterwards? “Can you be more specific,” you ask? Good point. There are so many to mention, we need to be more precise, so let’s narrow the list down to five, and let’s consider the true impact of their dishonesty. While the media may have been successful in sustaining political damage against Trump, the Republican Party, and the conservative movement – which was their ultimate goal, no doubt – they also caused significant collateral damage, either unwittingly or uncaringly.
1. The Russia Hoax –
For those of us on the political right, it’s easy to forget the magnitude of this farce. We were bombarded with nonsense every day, we agonized over the ridiculousness of it all, and many of us have tried to put this circus behind us. The loser of the 2016 presidential election Hillary Clinton, along with her Democrat apologists, pushed on this narrative from the beginning. Trump was an illegitimate president due to his collusion with Russia leading up to the election, they said, an infraction so malicious he may have actually been guilty of treason and deserving of the death penalty. There have been instances of political malice between parties in our nation’s past, but never one quite like this.
What made this charade so absurd was the media’s complicity in it. This wasn’t just a situation of the media tilting a storyline and inserting opinions into supposed news articles, they actively hyped the story ad nauseum and actively participated in the misinformation. “The walls are closing in on Trump,” they told us. “We have another bombshell regarding President Trump and Russia,” they promised. It was all a lie, as the Mueller Report clearly proved.
For almost three years, our government was virtually gridlocked with its attention focused squarely on a fairytale. So, what if the media had told us the truth from the beginning with Russia?
As the media was hyping the hoax, the divisiveness it brought along still lingers. We must conclude that the country would be far less divided had they been honest, and the value of that possibility cannot be overstated. Our current national discord is awful, and the media is largely to blame.
Considering the actual direction the country was headed in back in 2018, there would’ve been a good chance that Republicans would have kept control of Congress, but even if they hadn’t, our Federal Government would have likely been much more productive without this sideshow, and items like President Biden’s recently unveiled Infrastructure Plan could have been moot.
It’s amazing how productive Trump’s Administration was with efforts such as his foreign policy initiatives despite the distractions of the Russia Hoax, and we can only speculate how much more effective they could have been if they hadn’t had to focus resources on defending Trump with Russia. Instead of only four Israeli treaties, we could have seen double digits, and the situations in North Korea and Iran could have been much better as well.

Massive 700-pound George Floyd statue erected at Newark City Hall
A massive bronze statue of George Floyd was unveiled in New Jersey on Wednesday afternoon. The 700-pound statue will remain on display at Newark's City Hall for at least a year.
"The artwork was donated to the city and will be on display for at least a year in collaboration with the Division of Arts and Cultural Affairs," WPIX-TV reported.
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka (D) unveiled the statue along with artist Stanley Watts, who sculpted the statue, and filmmaker Leon Pickney, who commissioned the statue.
"George Floyd represents a lot more than himself at this juncture in history," Baraka said during the unveiling ceremony. "Hopefully when people walk by it and they see it…hopefully it inspires them to become active in the struggles that are happening right here in Newark and right here in New Jersey."
Floyd died on May 25, 2020, after a white Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for nearly 10 minutes. His death sparked nationwide protests calling for societal and criminal justice reforms.
Baraka hoped that the George Floyd statue would become a permanent fixture in Newark.
"He probably could have taken this anywhere, but we are grateful that he chose to display it in Newark for as long as we possibly can have it," the mayor said. "Maybe it will find a permanent home somewhere or maybe it will be here, who knows, but we are happy to have it for the time we have it here."
"Mr. Floyd's death elevated the Black Lives Matter movement, which has resulted in an international response, including protests, police reform measures and the removal of Confederate statues from public parks and racist names from organizations," city officials said in a statement.
Pickney said, "The statue was to cause them to remember why they marched during such a horrific pandemic and I didn't want them to go back to a status quo."
Watts explained why he selected this posture of George Floyd, "The world needed a peaceful George."
"The world needed him relaxed and chilling on a bench and that's what we produced and we produced him larger than life, because after death, George will be remembered," he continued. "That's what memorials are. To remember and never forget why we changed today and tomorrow and for the rest of our existence on this planet."
Last year, Newark removed a statue of Christopher Columbus from Washington Park that was donated to the city as a gift from the Italian-American community in 1927.
"In keeping with the movement to remove symbols of oppression and white supremacy, we have decided to remove the statue," Mayor Baraka said in June 2020. "We took it down with city work crews in a safe and orderly manner, to avoid the potential danger of people taking it upon themselves to topple it."
"The removal of this statue should not be perceived as an insult to the Italian American community," Baraka continued. "It is a statement against the barbarism, enslavement and oppression that this explorer represents."
The Columbus statue will be replaced with a new monument honoring famed abolitionist Harriet Tubman.

Evidently sick and tired of being told to stand down while antifa terrorists throw bricks at them and destroy the city on a regular basis, the Portland police bureau’s Rapid Response Team has quit. All of them. There is no specialty unit left to respond to riots now. These positions were voluntary and the officers who had served on the riot squad will continue in their regular beat patrol duties. As many Gateway Pundit readers know, Multnomah county District Attorney Mike Schmidt often drops charges on the few who are actually arrested at these protests.
The official Portland Police Bureau press release reads:
On June 16, 2021, Portland Police Bureau employees serving as members of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) left their voluntary positions and no longer comprise a team. Its members were sworn employees of the Portland Police who served on RRT in addition to their daily assignment in the Bureau. Despite no longer serving on RRT, they will continue in their regular assignments. There were approximately 50 employees serving as RRT members.
The Rapid Response Team is an all-hazard incident response team that has received advanced specialized training to respond to incidents requiring higher levels of technical expertise including public order policing, natural or man-made disasters. The primary role has been to provide public safety at crowd events when there was a threat of harm to the community. All Rapid Response Team members are trained in advanced skills related to crowd management and crowd control including crowd psychology and behavior, team formations and movements, the use of enhanced personal protective equipment, use of force, de-escalation and arrests.

FM News 101 learned late Wednesday night that in response to the criminal indictment of Officer Corey Budworth, the bureaus entire Rapid Response Team resigned. Sources with the Police Bureau say the team voted unanimously to disband.
The Rapid Response Team is a group of volunteer officers who respond to civil disobedience, demonstrations, and riots.
Tuesday, a member of the team was charged with assault for actions during an August 18, 2020 riot in Southeast Portland.
Wednesday, Portland Police Association Executive Director, Daryl Turner told the Lars Larson Show that he feared officers would quit in response to what he called a “Witch Hunt” of a prosecution. In its own investigation the Portland Police Bureau determined no wrongdoing by the officer. He did not violate training or department rules. He did his job within the scope of the law.
Oregon Public Broadcasting adds:
The resignations came after news this week that one member of the team, Officer Corey Budworth, would face criminal charges for excessive force used during a racial justice protest last year, and that a second Rapid Response Team member, Det. Erik Kammerer, is being investigated by the Oregon Department of Justice on similar allegations.

The Arizona Republican Party Tweeted another fantastic Arizona Audit update by AZGOP Chairwoman Dr. Kelli Ward.
The hand-count portion has concluded, excluding a very small number of Braille ballots that are still being counted. The forensic imaging of ballots is continuing and OVER 100,000 ballots per day are being inspected.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that this process will complete by June 26.
GOP Arizona Chair Dr. Kelli Ward also provided an update on the lawsuit by Attorney General Mark Brnovich vs. the Democratic National Committee. The DNC has been working since 2016 to make it easier to cheat in Arizona elections, through ballot harvesting. The Arizona case is now in the U.S. Supreme Court and Dr. Ward expects a decision this month.

Now, I want you to know we are going to continue to monitor the progress of the full forensic audit of the 2020 Maricopa County election. As we told you yesterday the hand count is done, except for the Braille ballots and those Braille ballots do require a Braille expert to count. Obviously, we are also monitoring, though, an election integrity case at the United States Supreme Court that will have a big impact, big here in Arizona we passed a law that bans the practice known as ballot harvesting.
In the past, Democrats in Arizona, and Democrats in other states have sent people out to collect mail in ballots from large numbers of people, and then turn them in, either at the post office, or to the county election center or to drop boxes that are just randomly out in the public. I know that you know that this is a horrible idea. First, it creates a chain of custody problem. Who knows what happens to those ballots when they leave the hands of the voters, if they were in the hands of the voters to start with? Also, how do we know that those ballots were actually filled out before they were handed over? Ballot harvesting is part of why it is so important to clean up the registered voter lists in our counties, ballot harvesters and voting lists filled with people who have passed away, or who have moved out of state is a recipe that is ripe for fraud.
As you would expect the ballot harvesting law was challenged by liberal groups in court lawfare, the Republican Party of Arizona has been monitoring this case from the start knowing how important it is for election integrity. It’s made its way all the way to the United States Supreme Court, which held hearings in March, the case, Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee is expected to have a ruling sometime this month, we are hoping for a good outcome. So while the Arizona audit is vital, we are not taking our eyes off of other important election integrity matters, and other important political matters. Let’s hope in the next few days we are going to be celebrating a victory, a victory for election integrity at the U.S. Supreme Court.
