New York needs the truth about the Cuomo administration coverup of nursing home deaths — and that means an independent federal investigation.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s top aide confessed privately this week that the administration suppressed the true COVID toll in the homes. She also she offered an apology — not to the thousands of New York families who needlessly lost loved ones thanks to her boss’s mismanagement but to Democratic lawmakers put in a difficult “political position with the Republicans” by the coverup.

A federal investigation may be the only way to get the full truth of Team Cuomo’s order to nursing homes, populated by those most vulnerable to the virus, to take in COVID-positive patients. Not just the “what” of how many lives it cost, but the “why” behind this madness, and the months and months of coverup.

Melissa DeRosa, secretary to the governor, made the stunning statement on a video call with Democratic state lawmakers as she “explained” why the administration ignored since August their demands for nursing-home death data. It began when then-President Donald Trump “directs the Department of Justice to do an investigation into us,” she said. “And basically we froze.”

“Because then we were in a position where we weren’t sure if what we were going to give to the Department of Justice, or what we give to you guys, what we start saying, was going to be used against us while we weren’t sure if there was going to be an investigation,” she said.

Suppressing evidence for fear of federal prosecution — what did the administration have to hide?

Another problem: The state started hiding the info months earlier, long before Trump tweeted a thing.

Later in the call, she said the Biden Justice Department isn’t as interested in Team Cuomo’s malfeasance. “All signs point to they are not looking at this, they’ve dropped it,” she said.

Not when she’s admitted a coverup, they can’t. The feds must reopen a probe and subpoena Cuomo, DeRosa, and Health Commissioner Howard Zucker.

Perhaps a special counsel is needed. Cuomo has long and strong ties to Biden, who reportedly considered him for attorney general. Cuomo was even at the White House Friday, managing to avoid reporters as he met with the president and other governors to discuss stimulus legislation.

What truth we now have only came despite Team Cuomo’s best efforts. It took a damning report from Attorney General Tish James and a court order in a months-old Freedom of Information suit to get the Health Department to cough up anything.

And the lies keep getting exposed. It turns out the number of recovering patients sent to nursing homes early in the pandemic — 9,056 — is 40 percent higher than what the DOH claimed in its whitewashing July report. The state just released the new number in response to an Associated Press Freedom of Information request made back in May.

Upon hearing DeRosa’s admission, state Sen. Andrew Gounardes (D-Bay Ridge) called it a “betrayal of the public trust.” Absolutely.

New York needs to get to the bottom of Cuomo & Co.’s pack of lies. The public needs the full truth — and accountability.

A massive fire erupted Friday at Connecticut’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp founded by late actor Paul Newman, a report said.

T.J. Ducklo isn't the only middling political flack working in the Biden administration these days. He's not even the only one to be called out for berating a female reporter.

Ian Sams, whose résumé includes the failed presidential campaigns of Hillary Clinton (2016) and Kamala Harris (2020), is no longer self-employed after landing a plum gig as the COVID-19 spokesman for the Department of Health and Human Services.

Sams, who is best known for modeling Clinton campaign merchandise such as the "Grillary Clinton" apron, embarrassed himself on several occasions while serving as national press secretary for the Harris campaign, which flamed out months before the Iowa caucuses.

Sams lashed out at BuzzFeed editor Katherine Miller in October 2019 after Miller tweeted critical remarks about Harris's performance during a Democratic primary debate. He didn't confront Miller directly, but rather reached out to her boss, Ben Smith, to complain.

Sams was offended that Miller had praised another failed candidate, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), for suggesting Harris's crusade to get Donald Trump banned from Twitter was a dumb idea. Was this a racist thing to suggest? Sams thought so.

"This kind of stuff is just a really horrible look for you guys," Sams told Smith via text. "Frankly, it's whiteness manifest. If Kamala shrugged off a Warren critique of how she wasn't with her on [breaking up] Facebook, we'd get raked over the coals and [Warren] would be lauded as taking on corporate power."

Smith's response to the aggrieved flack was rather savage. "Do you seriously not have real problems?" he asked. "This text makes me think you are totally, totally unready for an actual presidential campaign."

Smith was right. Days later, Sams humiliated himself again by tweeting out a bizarre photoshopped image of Harris being yelled at by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.). The original image was taken during a contentious meeting between Pelosi and President Donald Trump, whose image had been sloppily replaced with one of Harris with her arms crossed.

"It's time for an upgrade," Sams wrote on Twitter, to the confusion of everyone. Why was Pelosi yelling at Harris? Why was Harris surrounded by Republican aides and lawmakers? Why? No one had a good answer to any of these questions, least of all Sams, who ultimately deleted the tweet. "Rightwing twitter is a really sad place," he lamented.

China bans BBC for ‘fake news’ on Xinjiang, coronavirus

UK foreign secretary calls move ‘an unacceptable curtailing of media freedom.’

Chinese authorities banned BBC World News on Thursday, accusing the British broadcaster of not being “factual and fair,” according to a government statement.

The decision was a result of a “slew of falsified reporting” on issues including the Xinjiang region and China’s handling of the coronavirus, state media Global Times said, adding that “fake news” is not tolerated in China.

The BBC's series of reporting about Xinjiang internment camps, forced labor and, most recently, systematic rape of Muslim women have infuriated Beijing authorities.

While the BBC was not available in most Chinese households, the ban suggests it will no longer be streamed in any venues such as hotels.

“We are disappointed that the Chinese authorities have decided to take this course of action. The BBC is the world’s most trusted international news broadcaster and reports on stories from around the world fairly, impartially and without fear or favor,” the BBC said in a statement.

The U.K.’s Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab called it “an unacceptable curtailing of media freedom.”

“China has some of the most severe restrictions on media & internet freedoms across the globe, & this latest step will only damage China’s reputation in the eyes of the world,” Raab wrote on Twitter.

Labour Party MP Yasmin Qureshi, the shadow minister for international development, said the decision showed the Chinese government’s intolerance of “recent reports revealing the horrific systematic rape and sexual abuse of Uyghurs and other detainees in the Xinjiang prison camps.”

“If the Chinese government has got nothing to hide in Xinjiang, what has it got to fear from the free press?” Qureshi said in a statement issued by the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China.

What Collapsed the Middle Class?

The middle class has already collapsed, but thanks to debt and bubbles, this reality has been temporarily cloaked.

What collapsed the middle class? In many ways the answer echoes an Agatha Christie mystery: rather than there being one guilty party, a number of suspects participated in the collapse of the middle class.

Can we consolidate these dynamics into a few core causal factors? I’ve made the case in the past few posts that yes, we can: many of these causes are part of a single dynamic, the decapitalization of the middle class and the decay of the ladder of social mobility which enabled tens of millions of workers to transform their wages into productive capital via saving and investment in their own human capital, their own enterprises, and assets that earn income.

The Top 10% Is Doing Just Fine, The Middle Class Is Dying on the Vine (2/4/21)

The second primary dynamic is the substitution of debt and speculation for earned income and productive capital. As the purchasing power of the bottom 90%’s wages declines, the status quo has substituted debt for income and speculation for investing in productive capital.

Debt and the Demise of the Middle Class (2/9/21)

This dynamic incentivizes debt, speculation, and consumption rather than producing, savings and investments in human and productive capital. The source of this incentive structure is the maximization of corporate profits earned by banks loaning money to the middle class and by selling the middle class on superfluous consumption being the signifier of “success” rather than production being the signifier of “success”.

In reality, what counts is agency (control of one’s life, having a voice in governance) and ownership of productive capital. Becoming a debt-serf to buy more stuff and grab a few chips in the speculative casino sacrifices both agency and the acquisition of productive capital. But this sacrifice is oh-so profitable to the financier purveyors of debt and speculative gambles in the casino.

The third dynamic is globalization, and specifically the tyranny of global markets. Global banks and corporations are ideally placed to profit from the arbitrage of labor, environmental regulations, currencies, corruption (dear in some places, cheap in others), and the price of debt and risk.

Wage-earners have no such leverage. In effect, all the risks of competition are eliminated for corporate monopolies and cartels while the risks are transferred to workers who face a global race to the bottom in wages, opportunity and income security.

The fourth dynamic is speculative bubbles put many assets out of reach of the bottom 90% who have only their wages and savings. The winners in speculative bubbles are those fortunate enough to have bought homes, bonds, rental properties, land, etc. decades ago when a house could be had for three times median income and bonds paid solid, above-inflation returns.

The bottom 90% attempting to find productive assets at affordable prices now are out of luck. Consider a 900 square foot home built in 1916 in the desirable San Francisco Bay Area community of Albany, CA. The house sold for $135,000 in 1996, 3.8 times the national median household income.

Then Housing Bubble #1 boosted the value to $542,000 in 2004, 12.2 times the national median household income. Housing Bubble #2 has pushed the value to slightly over $1 million, 14.5 times the national median household income. Only those inheriting wealth (or who chose wealthy parents), those earning over $250,000 annually or speculators who just scored big gains in bitcoin or GameStop could afford this very small, modest house.

If progressivism can’t work there, why should the country believe it can work anywhere else?

You may have heard that San Francisco’s Board of Education voted 6 to 1 to rename 44 schools, stripping ancient racists of their laurels, but also Abraham Lincoln and Senator Dianne Feinstein. The history upon which these decisions were made was dodgy, and the results occasionally bizarre. Paul Revere, for instance, was canceled for participating in a raid on Indigenous Americans that was actually a raid on a British fort.

In normal times, bemusement would be the right response to a story like this. Cities should have idiosyncratic, out-there politics. You need to earn your “Keep X weird” bumper stickers. And for all the Fox News hosts who’ve collapsed onto their fainting couches, America isn’t suffering from a national shortage of schools named for Abraham Lincoln.

But San Francisco’s public schools remain closed, no matter the name on the front. “What I cannot understand is why the School Board is advancing a plan to have all these schools renamed by April, when there isn’t a plan to have our kids back in the classroom by then,” Mayor London Breed said in a statement. I do not want to dismiss the fears of teachers (or parents), many living in crowded homes, who fear returning to classrooms during a pandemic. But the strongest evidence we have suggests school openings do not pose major risks when proper precautions are followed, and their continued closure does terrible harm to students, with the worst consequences falling on the neediest children. And that’s where this goes from wacky local news story to a reflection of a deeper problem.

San Francisco is about 48 percent white, but that falls to 15 percent for children enrolled in its public schools. For all the city’s vaunted progressivism, it has some of the highest private school enrollment numbers in the country — and many of those private schools have remained open. It looks, finally, like a deal with the teachers’ union is near that could bring kids back to the classroom, contingent on coronavirus cases continuing to fall citywide, but much damage has been done. This is why the school renamings were so galling to so many in San Francisco, including the mayor. It felt like an attack on symbols was being prioritized over the policies needed to narrow racial inequality.

California has the highest poverty rate in the nation, when you factor in housing costs, and vies for the top spot in income inequality, too.

The median price for a home in California is more than $700,000. As Bloomberg reported in 2019, the state has four of the nation’s five most expensive housing markets and a quarter of the nation’s homeless residents.

Former US Olympian Klete Keller Indicted on Additional Charges Over Capitol Riot

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Klete Keller was earlier hit with three criminal charges over his participation in the deadly January 6 Capitol riot, after the champion swimmer was identified on video, wearing his US Olympic Team jacket.

A grand jury has returned a new indictment against Keller on Wednesday, hitting the athlete with several additional charges over his involvement in the violent storming of the US Capitol by Trump supporters which saw five killed.

The latest court filing indicates the new indictment charges Keller with seven criminal offenses, including civil disorder, obstruction of an official proceeding, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds and disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, among other violations.

Keller was previously charged by federal authorities in January with obstructing law enforcement, violent entry and disorderly conduct, as well as entering a restricted building.

According to the Washington Post, prosecutors involved in the case later asked a grand jury to consider whether or not Keller’s actions were deserving of more serious charges, a request that has been made in “many” cases related to the Capitol riot.

Keller was taken into custody by federal authorities last month after he was identified on video footage captured by Townhall reporter Julio Rosas. Keller was first reported to have been involved with the Capitol attack by SwimSwam, a news outlet that covers competitive swimming.

The former Olympian, who participated in the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Games, has been released from custody on a personal recognizance bond. He has since returned to his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after being ordered to stay away from Washington DC, unless for court appearances.

Trade Unions Refuse To Answer Why They Supported Biden Despite His Years Of Promising To Take Down Keystone

Multiple trade unions involved in Keystone XL Pipeline construction refused to explain why they endorsed President Joe Biden who promised to nix the union job-creating project.

The North America’s Building Trades Union endorsed Biden in October, but said it was “deeply disappointed” after his Keystone executive action.

“I wish he hadn’t done that on the first day,” American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations President Richard Trumka, who endorsed Biden, told Axios. “It did and will cost us jobs in the process.”

Multiple trade unions involved in Keystone XL Pipeline construction refused to explain why they endorsed President Joe Biden who promised to nix the union job-creating project.

Trade unions who had praised the Keystone XL Pipeline for creating thousands of jobs were silent when asked repeatedly by the Daily Caller News Foundation why they supported President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign. Biden signed an executive order on his first day in office, revoking the federal permit for the Keystone Pipeline after promising to do exactly that during his campaign.

“The Teamsters strongly oppose yesterday’s decision, and we would urge the administration to reconsider it,” International Brotherhood of Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa said in a statement following the executive action.

“It will reduce good-paying union jobs that allow workers to provide a middle-class standard of living to their families,” Hoffa continued. “America needs access to various forms of energy that can keep its economy running in the years ahead. This decision will hurt that effort.”

The Teamsters, the Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA), the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) and the United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters signed the Keystone Pipeline’s labor agreement in August. The agreement promised the creation of 42,000 “family-sustaining jobs” in the U.S. and $2 billion in total earnings for the all-union workforce.

While the unions’ leaders all championed the union-friendly project, they still endorsed Biden who explicitly promised to nix the pipeline’s construction.

“We can count on [Biden] to stand with us on issues of critical importance to LiUNA members and their families,” General President Terry O’Sullivan said in a September endorsement message.

Update (1900ET): Shortly after completing this post, news broke, via Axios, that Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt is resigning from the group's board amid a series of scandals.

As a reminder, here is what he said earlier:

“The Lincoln Project will be delighted to open its books for audit immediately after the Trump campaign and all affiliated super PACs do so,” Steve Schmidt said in response to inquiries about how much of the donations went into their personal bank accounts rather than ads designed to defeat Trump.

A career diplomat who headed Australia's intelligence community until last year is working for a corporate lobbying firm while also being paid as a consultant by the Prime Minister's Department.

Mr Warner is a former director-general of the Australian Secret Intelligence Service

Nick Warner completed his term as the first director-general of the Office of National Intelligence (ONI) in December and has recently been hired as a "counsellor" for Dragoman, a Melbourne-based international strategic advisory office with close links to the Middle East.

The ABC can reveal that in January, the country's former top intelligence official also began paid consultancy work for the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) but the Government will not say if any potential conflicts of interest have been declared.

During his lengthy public service career, Mr Warner served as the director-general of the Australian Secret Intelligence Service (ASIS), Defence Department secretary and ambassador to several nations, including Iran.

Dragoman's managing director and sole publicly declared lobbyist is former Federal Liberal Party vice-president Tom Harley and its chairman of counsellors is former defence minister Robert Hill, who served during the Howard government.

On its website, Dragoman boasts of bringing "deep commercial knowledge from its broad networks, contacts, insights, analysis, first-hand experience and expertise".

The firm also touts the ability to "shape favourable policy outcomes" by "providing insight into key players and ensuring clients maintain a practical understanding of the political and policy imperatives of key decision-makers and influencers."

According to the government's official register, Dragoman has declared it only lobbies directly on behalf of Australian global engineering firm Worley Limited, but the ABC understands it has also provided advice to numerous defence and national security companies.

In 2019, the ABC revealed Dragoman's Mr Harley approached Mr Warner for information about one of his client's corporate rivals, while he was still in charge of ONI.

At the time, Mr Warner declined to comment and the ABC is not suggesting he acted inappropriately in response to Mr Harley's request.

The ABC has again approached Mr Warner for comment on whether he has declared any potential conflicts of interest with his new roles, but he has not responded.

Dragoman has also not responded to several questions sent to its office by the ABC.

A spokesperson for Prime Minister Scott Morrison referred all questions about Mr Warner's PM&C consultancy role to the department, which declined to detail what work he is being paid for.

"Mr Warner has been engaged as a consultant by PM&C," a departmental spokesman told the ABC.

"The arrangement commenced on 25 January, 2021," the spokesperson added without confirming if Mr Warner has been provided with an office inside the department or any staff for his consulting work.

Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt has reportedly resigned from its board amid scandal facing the anti-Trump super PAC.

Schmidt's resignation on Friday, revealed by Axios, comes after former employees singled him out in an open letter accusing the Lincoln Project of mishandling sexual harassment allegations leveled against co-founder John Weaver.

Northeast Ohio doctor pleads guilty to sex trafficking six children

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – A Canfield doctor pleaded guilty Thursday to several federal sex trafficking charges.

According to court documents, Albert Aiad-Toss pleaded guilty to eight charges of sex trafficking and production of child pornography.

Sentencing is scheduled for June. 3.

Prosecutors say Aiad-Toss, 52, had six victims ranging in age from 12 to 15 years old.

Court records say Aiad-Toss enticed the victims into performing “commercial sex acts” and forced a 15-year-old to perform a sex act on camera.

Police arrested Aiad-Toss at an airport in Florida in July 2019. He was returning from a trip to Peru.

Aiad-Toss was contracted to work as an emergency room physician at Mercy Health Boardman. He no longer works there. His medical license was indefinitely suspended in December 2019 by the Ohio State Medical Board.

The Lincoln Project’s launch in late 2019 was designed to make a splash.

“We are Republicans, and we want Trump defeated,” four of its co-founders wrote in the New York Times of the organization that would go on to raise nearly $90 million for its stated mission of defeating Donald Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box in 2020.

They created attention-grabbing ads that provoked responses from the former president. High-profile liberals such as DreamWorks co-founder David Geffen wrote them six-figure checks. Hundreds of small-dollar donations poured in. Leaders and staff decamped to a pre-election headquarters in the ski haven of Park City, Utah, where their effort was chronicled by Hollywood filmmakers. Their post-election plans included leveraging the massive following they gained to build a media empire. They recently launched the platform LPTV.

But, as of this week, just three of the Lincoln Project’s eight co-founders remained — Rick Wilson, Reed Galen and Steve Schmidt. Schmidt resigned from the organization’s board late Friday, Axios reported.

The organization is facing a rapidly escalating controversy over allegations that another of its co-founders, John Weaver, sexually harassed more than a dozen young men, including some working for the project, and over what other members of senior management knew about the claims and when they knew it.

The accusations have roiled the organization, and as its current and former employees and contractors began coming forward to discuss them, they described a workplace where women in key positions were sidelined and where sexist and homophobic language was used by those in leadership posts.

In reporting a story over the past several weeks about the Lincoln Project’s management, culture, finances and handling of the Weaver allegations, The 19th interviewed nearly two dozen individuals currently or formerly associated with the group or familiar with its operations.

DC Court Denies FOIA Documents, Ruling Trump Tweet Wasn’t Admission CIA Funded Al-Qaeda in Syria

Last fall, the US Department of Justice refused to declassify all documents related to the Russiagate investigation, saying a tweet by then-US President Donald Trump wasn’t an official order to release unredacted files.

A DC Court of Appeals has sided with the US Central Intelligence Agency in claiming that just because former US President Donald Trump tweeted about something is not proof that it actually existed.

The case concerned a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request by Jason Leopold of BuzzFeed News for documents on CIA funding for anti-government rebels in Syria after Trump tweeted about ending the program.

“The Amazon Washington Post fabricated the facts on my ending massive, dangerous, and wasteful payments to Syrian rebels fighting Assad,” Trump tweeted on July 24, 2017, as part of a rant about media bias.

The tweet formed the basis of Leopold’s FOIA request for “payments to Syrian rebels fighting Assad,” which the CIA refused to answer, saying that by giving an answer to his request it would be admitting to something that was illegal.

Loepold then sent a second request, this time seeking “agency records relating to payments to Syrian rebels,” according to a suit filed in a DC federal court in 2019 seeking release of the documents. At first, the court came down on the reporter’s side, but the intelligence agency appealed and a new trio of judges reversed the previous order.

“Because the president’s tweet makes it implausible for any reasonable person to truly doubt the existence of at least some CIA records that are responsive to at least some of the nine categories of documents that Buzzfeed requested, Buzzfeed has managed to overcome the agency’s Glomar response and the agency has failed to meet its burden in this case,” the court ruled in 2019, referring to a type of inference of a document’s existence based on the principle of “the dog that did not bark.”

US District Judge Rudolph Contreras, who wrote the Circuit Court’s Thursday ruling, conceded that the tweet was an acknowledgement of “the government’s intelligence interest in the broader categories of records that BuzzFeed has requested.” He went on to ultimately undermine Leopold’s argument, saying that “one would hope that the district court’s assumption is accurate but who knows for sure? To establish official acknowledgment our precedents require certainty, not assumptions of this sort. The tweet here leaves too much doubt.”

In other words, the CIA will not be required to admit to actions it is widely reported as having done, much less divulge documents about them to the press for even greater scrutiny.

Obama's Quest to Arm 'Moderate Rebels'

The New York Times, which has admitted that “national security officials” approve some of its stories prior to publication, has reported on the CIA’s classified Timber Sycamore weapons and training program for years. In January 2016, the Times reported that then-US President Barack Obama had secretly authorized the CIA to “begin arming Syria’s embattled rebels in 2013.”

CDC calls for K-12 schools to reopen

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Friday called for grade schools and secondary schools across the country to reopen safely and as soon as possible for in-person instruction in a lengthy set of new guidelines.

The new recommendations come as the nation debates students back to schools for in-person learning, as virtual learning has had broadly negative impacts on students’ mental health and academic performance, as well as making life difficult for parents who have had to adjust to having their children at home and a whole new work life.

“It is critical for schools to open as safely and as soon as possible, and remain open, to achieve the benefits of in-person learning and key support services,” the CDC stated in the new guidelines. “All community members, students, families, teachers, and school staff should take actions to protect themselves and others where they live, work, learn, and play.”

In the guidelines, the CDC laid out “five key mitigation strategies” to help reopen K-12 schools safely. Those five key strategies are: everybody wearing masks and wearing them correctly; social distancing; washing hands; cleaning facilities and bolstering ventilation; and practicing contact tracing and quarantining.

While policies such as mask-wearing and social distancing have been recommended by the CDC before in previous guidelines, this time the CDC is more assertively calling on schools to practice them.

The CDC emphasized that such schools should be reopened before nonessential businesses and activities are and that they should be the last to shut down when state and local governments enact COVID-19 restrictions.

“I want to be clear, with this operational strategy, CDC is not mandating that schools reopen. These recommendations simply provide schools a long-needed roadmap for how to do so safely under different levels of disease in the community,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said at a Friday press briefing.

“We also know that some schools are already providing in-person instruction and we want them to be able to continue to do this, but we know that some are not following the recommended mitigation strategies we know to work,” Walensky added. “For these schools, we are not mandating that they close; rather, we are providing these recommendations and highlighting the science behind them to help schools create an environment that is safe for schools, students, teachers and staff.”

While the Biden administration has been calling for K-12 schools to reopen soon and safely, specifically most of them within his first 100 days, teachers unions across the country have been pushing back against reopening until more protections are put in place and testing and vaccinations for teachers become more available.

Last week, though, Walensky said during a White House press briefing that vaccinating is “not a prerequisite” for safely reopening schools.

“There is increasing data to suggest that schools can safely reopen and that safe reopening does not suggest that teachers need to be vaccinated,” she told reporters.

Washington (CNN)In an expletive-laced phone call with House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy while the Capitol was under attack, then-President Donald Trump said the rioters cared more about the election results than McCarthy did.

"Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are," Trump said, according to lawmakers who were briefed on the call afterward by McCarthy.

McCarthy insisted that the rioters were Trump's supporters and begged Trump to call them off.

Trump's comment set off what Republican lawmakers familiar with the call described as a shouting match between the two men. A furious McCarthy told the then-President the rioters were breaking into his office through the windows, and asked Trump, "Who the f–k do you think you are talking to?" according to a Republican lawmaker familiar with the call.

The newly revealed details of the call, described to CNN by multiple Republicans briefed on it, provide critical insight into the President's state of mind as rioters were overrunning the Capitol. The existence of the call and some of its details were first reported by Punchbowl News and discussed publicly by McCarthy.

The Republican members of Congress said the exchange showed Trump had no intention of calling off the rioters even as lawmakers were pleading with him to intervene. Several said it amounted to a dereliction of his presidential duty.

"He is not a blameless observer, he was rooting for them," a Republican member of Congress said. "On January 13, Kevin McCarthy said on the floor of the House that the President bears responsibility and he does."

Speaking to the President from inside the besieged Capitol, McCarthy pressed Trump to call off his supporters and engaged in a heated disagreement about who comprised the crowd. Trump's comment about the would-be insurrectionists caring more about the election results than McCarthy did was first mentioned by Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, a Republican from Washington state, in a town hall earlier this week, and was confirmed to CNN by Herrera Beutler and other Republicans briefed on the conversation.

"You have to look at what he did during the insurrection to confirm where his mind was at," Herrera Beutler, one of 10 House Republicans who voted last month to impeach Trump, told CNN. "That line right there demonstrates to me that either he didn't care, which is impeachable, because you cannot allow an attack on your soil, or he wanted it to happen and was OK with it, which makes me so angry."

"We should never stand for that, for any reason, under any party flag," she added, voicing her extreme frustration: "I'm trying really hard not to say the F-word."

"I think it speaks to the former President's mindset," said Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, an Ohio Republican who also voted to impeach Trump last month. "He was not sorry to see his unyieldingly loyal vice president or the Congress under attack by the mob he inspired. In fact, it seems he was happy about it or at the least enjoyed the scenes that were horrifying to most Americans across the country."

The body of 47-year-old Rebecca Landrith, of Alexandria, Virginia, was found by a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation employee on the side of a ramp of I-80 early Sunday, the Philly Voice reported.

The coroner reported Landrith had multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck and throat, and 18 bullets were removed from her body.

The California Department of Public Health has updated its COVID-19 vaccination framework, allowing severely disabled people and those with health conditions that put them at high risk to get in line for shots next month.

Starting March 15, health care providers will be able to vaccinate people ages 16 to 64 with the following health conditions:

-Cancer, current with debilitated or immunocompromised state

-Chronic kidney disease, stage 4 or above

-Chronic pulmonary disease, oxygen-dependent

-Down syndrome

-Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant

Pregnancy

-Sickle cell disease

-Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies (excludes hypertension)

-Severe obesity (Body Mass Index ≥ 40 kg/m2)

-Type 2 diabetes mellitus with hemoglobin A1c level greater than 7.5%

Additionally, if as a result of a developmental or other severe high-risk disability one or more of the following applies:

ARMSTRONG, Iowa (KTIV) - Three current, and one former city official in Armstrong, Iowa face charges following a multi-year investigation into alleged wrongdoing.

Among those accused are Armstrong's mayor, police chief, its current city clerk and a former city clerk.

According to a press release from the Emmet County Sheriff's Office, Mayor Greg Buum, Police Chief Craig Merrill, City Clerk Tracie Lang and former City Clerk Connie Thackery are charged with 21 felony and misdemeanor counts.

Authorities say the charges stem from a multi-year investigation led by the Emmet County Sheriff's Office and Iowa's Division of Criminal Investigation, which followed a special investigation by the State Auditor.

Investigators say they uncovered wrongdoing committed by the defendants including the misappropriation of city funds, the presentation of fraudulent public records, deploying a TASER against a civilian and the falsification of leaders to conceal embezzlement.

The top count against Buum, Merrill, and Thackery is a charge of ongoing criminal conduct. While the top count against Lang is fraudulent practice in the first degree.

Because of a conflict of interest on the part of the Emmet County Attorney, the Iowa Attorney General's Office will prosecute these cases.

Sanitation Worker Praises God for Helping Him Rescue Young Girl from Sex Offender

In a harrowing Facebook Live broadcast Monday, one Louisiana sanitation worker heaped praise on God for helping him save a 10-year-old girl from a registered sex offender whom police believe had abducted her a day earlier.

Dion Merrick, a trash truck driver for Pelican Waste & Debris, said he was on his regular route with his coworker, Brandon Antoine, when he saw a gray 2012 Nissan Altima parked out in a field.

“There was a dude who had this little 10-year-old girl,” he said. “I just saved that little girl’s life, bruh. Thank God, bruh. They got him now. They saved that little girl, thanks to two Pelican drivers.”

“I was just doing my job and actually came across somebody that needed help,” the man continued. “I’m teared up right now, for real. I’d had never thought [to look]. … Whoever’s little girl this is, you need to fall on your knees and tell God, ‘Thank you. Thank you, because it could have been worse.’ ’Cause I’m looking at the situation, if you look at them woods and stuff, anything could have went on. Thank God, bruh. That’s why I saw that Man is real. A lot of people don’t believe in Him, but you [need] to start believing in Him, cuz.”

The New Iberia Police Department issued an Amber Alert for the little girl — Jasila Lasalle — on Sunday, when she was taken from a family member’s home. Authorities said at the time Jasila was in “imminent danger.”

Thirty-three-year-old Michael Sereal, convicted in 2006 of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and a registered sex offender, was driving the sedan.

Merrick was able to position his trash truck so it blocked Sereal from driving away. Once police arrived on the scene, they took him into custody. The assailant, reportedly an acquaintance of Jasila’s family, is now being held without bond on charges of aggravated kidnapping and failure to register as a sex offender.

The heroic sanitation worker said he just felt “something” telling him to look over into the field where he found the child and Sereal.
