…Pillsbury looks to the Warring States Period of Chinese history as the template for today's hawks in Beijing. The nine principle elements of Chinese strategy include the following:
1. Induce complacency to avoid alerting your opponent.
2. Manipulate your opponent's advisers. "Such efforts have been a hallmark of China's relations with the United States."
3. Be patient – for decades, or longer – to achieve victory.
4. Steal your opponent's ideas and technology for strategic purposes.
5. Military might is not the critical factor for winning a long-term competition. "This partly explains why China has not devoted more resources to developing larger, more powerful military forces. Rather than relying on a brute accumulation of strength, Chinese strategy advocates targeting an enemy's weak points and biding one's time."
6. Recognize that the hegemon will take extreme, even reckless action to retain its dominant position. Pillsbury writes that in today's context – "the United States will not go quietly into the night as its power declines relative to others."
7. Never lose sight of shi. Pillsbury writes that the two elements of shi are critical components of Chinese strategy: "deceiving others into doing your bidding for you, and waiting for the point of maximum opportunity to strike."
8. Establish and employ metrics for measuring your status relative to other potential challengers. "Chinese strategy places a high premium on assessing China's relative power, during peacetime and in the event of war, across a plethora of dimensions beyond just military considerations. The United States, by contrast, has never attempted to do this."
9. Always be vigilant to avoid being encircled or deceived by others. "In what could be characterized as a deeply ingrained sense of paranoia, China's leaders believe that because all other potential rivals are out to deceive them, China must respond with its own duplicity."…

Yes, but the term backdoor is a misnomer.
There is an administration/configuration side to the voting machine. It may be remote, in the machine, or a combination of both.
Software is almost always compiled for reasons of performance into a machine language. You can't readily access this.
More than likely, a combination of "admin features" is how the system is manipulated.
If I wanted to program a system that theoretically flipped votes to Biden, you would introduce a variable which is used while the system scans votes. Ron showed a screenshot of this last night, I can't recall the names but for example:
Weight is set to 0
Frequency is set to 0
No manipulation
Weight is set to .2, frequency is set to .2.
Every 4th vote is randomly weighted by .2, then weighted against a random number, if it meets the threshold then the vote is flipped.
Weight is set to .8 and frequency is .8, then every 2nd vote is weighted much higher, so many more votes are flipped.
Using this, you can easily tune the system to flip votes at the rate you need and do it in such a way that it appears random.

I first took note when I saw the driver exit the car and run round the above address and thought there were suddently two people dressed the same. Maybe to create confusion. The specter of historic sexual abuse within the Catholic Church may have ended one chapter with the publishing of the Vatican's report into ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick but it has opened another regarding what to do going forward.
Chief among those uncomfortable questions is what the Holy See is going to do about current and future clergy who take advantage of the power they wield and sexually abuse adults who enter into their orbit.
"Priests, lay experts and canon lawyers alike say the Vatican needs to revisit how the church protects its seminarians, nuns and even rank-and-file parishioners from problem bishops and cardinals, who for centuries have wielded power and authority with few - if any - checks or accountability," reported The Associated Press.
The Vatican took the decision to publish the two-year investigation into the American ex-Cardinal - whom Pope Francis defrocked in 2019 - because it determined that McCarrick sexually abused adults as well as children. The defrocking only took place, because a former altar boy came forward in 2017 to complain about McCarrick's abuse of him approximately 40 years previously.
Crucially, the 449-page report found that there were misgivings about McCarrick's behavior as long ago as the mid-1990s - although the priest was ordained in 1958.
The findings did not spare Pope John Paull II, who named McGarrick to the post of archbishop of Washington D.C., despite written warnings, including in 1999 from then-archbishop of New York, Cardinal John O'Connor that to do so would be a mistake.
Pope Benedict XVI, who served as pontiff from 2005-2013, made an "appeal to McCarrick's conscience and ecclesial spirit by indicating to him that he should maintain a lower profile and minimize travel for the good of the church," according to the report. McCarrick ignored the plea and continued flouting the restrictions.
Current Pope Francis, however, took more solid action against the rogue cardinal, commissioning an archival investigation, which exposed the two-decade-long cover-up of McCarrick's abuse and misconduct.

A new Vatican report’s revelations that Pope John Paul II disregarded reports about ex-cardinal Theodore McCarrick’s sexual misconduct had Catholics on Wednesday debating the legacy of one of the modern church’s towering figures. The report triggered questions about whether John Paul was rushed through the saint-making process, and whether the author of contemporary Catholic teaching on human sexuality didn’t understand the complex nature of the topic.
The 450-page report released Tuesday is an unprecedented effort by the church at full transparency, a rare window on internal Vatican decision-making that showed that not only John Paul but also popes Benedict and Francis knew McCarrick had faced multiple accusations. Each pontiff was aware of different aspects of the accusations against McCarrick, but the initial years of the case came under John Paul’s 27-year reign.
John Paul, who died in 2005 and was made a saint in 2014, elevated McCarrick to archbishop of Washington and summarily to cardinal despite the allegations. Under Benedict, McCarrick was asked to step down as archbishop of Washington when he reached the standard retirement age of 75 and told to keep a lower profile. Francis assumed his predecessors had already vetted the allegations against McCarrick, but took action once a credible accusation surfaced involving a minor. McCarrick was laicized in 2019.
Reactions to the revelations about John Paul have been emotional and divided. Some saw a man perhaps naively believing a scheming friend. The report’s authors raised the possibility that John Paul’s judgment was heavily colored by his experience in the Eastern Bloc, where negative propaganda about priests was used to weaken religious organizations. Others felt his decisions were potentially disqualifying for the high moral honor of sainthood.

“Saints are holy, not perfect. There’s no chance his canonization would be reversed,” said Kathleen Sprows Cummings, head of a center on U.S. Catholicism at the University of Notre Dame, who has written extensively about saints. She added that if the report had come out before his canonization was complete, it would have mattered. “We canonize people for [Catholics], not for the person themselves. But what we know about sex abuse, this is not the kind of person — a person who failed on this level — he’s not to be imitated.”
Others felt the report made the case against John Paul’s canonization.

Australian corruption watchdog will not probe reported Vatican money transfers

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - An Australian state anti-corruption watchdog said on Thursday it would not investigate media reports of money being transferred from the Vatican to Australia during the prosecution of former Vatican treasurer George Pell.
The Australian Federal Police had referred some aspects of the matter to the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) in Victoria, which investigates misconduct by state government and police.
"IBAC has reviewed the information and found the threshold to commence inquiries or an investigation was not met," IBAC said in a statement on Thursday, adding it had only received information based on media reports.
"This matter would only be further considered if any additional, credible information is received relevant to IBAC's jurisdiction," the commission said.
Italian media reported in October that Pell's Vatican nemesis, Italian Cardinal Angelo Becciu, sent 700,000 euros ($824,000) to Australia allegedly to help Pell's "enemies" while he was facing sexual assault charges. Becciu's lawyer has denied the reports.
Pell was convicted in December 2018 of sexually assaulting two choir boys. His conviction was overturned in April after he served more than a year in jail.
Victorian Police said in October that they, too, were not conducting any investigation into the "transfer of monies from the Vatican over a period of time to Australia".
Police said while Australia's financial crimes watchdog had made them aware of the transfers, it had not advised them of any suspicious activity related to the transactions.

It was filed in federal court, not state. The gist is that some of the state's actions, and particularly the exclusion of Republican poll-watchers during the counting of hundreds of thousands of mail-in ballots, violated federal constitutional requirements.
The point is obvious enough once one thinks of it, but it's brilliant all the same. It shifts the focus from state law, where a politicized Pennsylvania court has the last word, to federal law, where the U.S. Supreme Court rules.
As for the obviousness of the point, consider as a thought experiment a state law requiring that all votes be counted in secret by an unelected board named by the party in power. Could it survive a constitutional challenge?
As my old Harvard constitutional law professors would have said, "to ask the question is to answer it." It is hard to count all the constitutional guarantees violated here: Equal Protection, Due Process, Privileges and Immunities. Indeed, the complaint stacks up the Supreme Court precedents supporting its arguments, including the long line of ringing statements in the chain of one-person-one-vote decisions.
Even the late Justice Ginsburg, who never met a progressive argument she could not support, would have trouble upholding such a law.
Given this framework, the historic decision in Bush v. Gore becomes useful but unimportant. The problem there was that the Florida Supreme Court pretended to be interpreting state law, and the legal convention is that the U.S. Supreme Court must defer on state issues, even though the Florida court was making up new law as it went along and changing its mind shamelessly.
The U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Bush v. Gore was muddled by the need to wiggle around this problem without addressing it head-on, because it would not do to cast doubt on the integrity of fellow judges. (The union is strong.) Only a three-justice concurrence said flatly that the Florida Court was contradicting the Legislature, and that would not do. Four justices went off on an opaque Equal Protection argument.
A result of this muddle, say friends in academia, is that progressive legal scholars are contemptuous of the decision and dismiss it as irrelevant.
Trump's Pennsylvania case does not have the complication of the state versus federal law interaction because it jumps over the state law and, as noted, relies on a host of U.S. SCOTUS cases about the importance of voting.
The complaint has much more, designed to bolster its central point. Many other instances of fraudulent activity are cited, which lends credibility to the main accusation. They are also indispensable to establish a factual case — that the exclusion not only occurred, but mattered, because thousands of ballots were counted in secret.
Reading the news reports, it appears likely that similar complaints are going to be filed in other swing states and that perhaps we are seeing the exposure of a broad-based effort to corrupt the election. Joe Biden claimed that the Democrats were mounting the biggest voter fraud effort in history, and a good rule for living is that when someone tells you he is about to screw you over, believe him.
It is possible, then, that a number of cases will hit the Supreme Court in about three weeks.
Everyone in the legal world assumes that the justices, bruised by the excoriation the Court has received over Bush v. Gore (even though the result was right), would never put itself in the position of reversing the apparent results of a presidential election. This assumption is the reason for the Democrats' efforts to create an irresistible bandwagon effect, but the president's lawyers may have out-maneuvered them. The justices may have no choice except to decide the election, one way or the other, and to be put to the choice of reversing the media-claimed results or ratifying massive fraud.
The legitimacy of the Court could survive through, and even be enhanced by, a carefully explained reversal of initial results. It could not survive a mealy-mouthed ratification of obvious fraud. If Trump's lawyers make their case factually, the Court must agree.
As Lincoln said: "we cannot escape history. We … will be remembered in spite of ourselves … in honor or dishonor, to the latest generation."

Pope Francis, Benedict XVI questioned for McCarrick Report

In an unusual move, both Pope Francis and retired Pope Benedict XVI subjected themselves to questioning by Vatican investigators charged with compiling a report on how church decisions were made regarding the career and ultimate expulsion of Theodore McCarrick.
“Pope Francis was questioned closely regarding the 23 June and 10 October 2013 meetings” during which Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, former nuncio to the United States, claimed he told Pope Francis about McCarrick’s history of sexual misconduct and about supposed sanctions imposed on him by Pope Benedict, said the report released on 10 November.
The footnotes indicate that McCarrick himself also was among the more than 90 people interviewed for the report. Archbishop Vigano, who claimed to have gone into hiding after making his accusations against Pope Francis in 2018, apparently was not. The report refers only to his 2018 statement and to documents and letters written by him and available in archives at the Vatican and the nunciature in Washington.
Francis does not recall any Vigano comments
In the interviews, “Pope Francis did not recollect what Vigano said about McCarrick” during the two 2013 meetings with Archbishop Vigano, the report said. “However, because McCarrick was a cardinal known personally to him, Pope Francis was certain that he would have remembered had Vigano spoken about McCarrick with any ‘force or clarity.'”
The pope also said he was “certain that Vigano never told him that McCarrick had committed ‘crimes’ against any person, whether adult or minor, or described McCarrick as a ‘serial predator’ or stated that McCarrick had ‘corrupted generations of seminarians and priests,'” as Archbishop Vigano claimed in 2018.
“Prior to the allegation made to the Archdiocese of New York in 2017, the pope was never informed by anyone that McCarrick had sexually abused or assaulted any person, irrespective of age,” the report said.
