1. This is the Michael Cohen playbook. We have seen this movie before. A year ago, Democrats staged a hearing with disgraced former Trump “fixer” Michael Cohen, who had already pleaded guilty on federal campaign finance charges. Cohen, who had also pleaded guilty to lying to Congress, provided nothing of value to Democrats in his testimony. They seem to hope this time will be different, once again using a desperate and dubious witness to fling dirt at the president.

2. Rachel Maddow has no credibility. Maddow’s reputation has never recovered from her years-long obsession with the “Russia collusion” conspiracy theory. In fact, she continues to obsess about it: last month, she tried to link Russia to Trump’s alleged effort to pressure Ukraine. In 2017, Maddow earned mockery from the left for releasing one of Trump’s tax returns, showing merely that he paid a lot of taxes. Parnas could not have chosen a worse forum if he wanted to be taken seriously.

3. Parnas claims he acted at Trump’s direction. The problem is that Parnas’s only evidence of that is that Ukrainian officials agreed to meet with him. “They have no reason to speak to me. … Who am I?” He offered no evidence of private or direct conversations with Trump. Though he claims Trump is lying about not knowing him, the best Parnas offered Maddow was conversations at “roundtables” — i.e. with many others present — and overhearing Giulaini talking to the president.

4. Parnas claims that Trump knew about Giuliani’s investigations, which were “never about corruption” in general. We already know, from the closed-door testimony of Catherine Croft (whom Democrats deliberately omitted from public hearings), that Trump had an independent concern about corruption in Ukraine, and raised it with the previous president. We also know that Giuliani’s task was preparing a legal defense for Trump, one Trump knew about. Nothing about that is new.

5. Parnas claims that he presented himself to Ukrainian officials as the president’s representative. Unfortunately for Maddow, he presented himself as working for the president’s personal attorney — something he said that Giuliani reiterated in every interaction with Ukrainian officials. Neither Parnas nor Giuliani ever presented themselves as representing the U.S. And as Trump’s personal attorney, Giuliani had an ethical obligation to investigate whatever he could to help his client.

6. Parnas claims that he conveyed a threat to Ukrainian official Sergei Shaffer. Parnas said that he told Shaffer, an aide to President Volodymyr Zelesnky, that all U.S. aid was at risk unless Ukraine announced an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden. The claim contrasts with claims by President Zelensky himself, who has said numerous times that he felt no pressure from the United States whatsoever, and that there was never any “quid pro quo” tied to U.S. assistance.

7. Parnas claims that Vice President Mike Pence stayed away from Zelensky’s inauguration to apply pressure. Pence flatly denied that on Wednesday. In addition, testimony by Pence aide Jennifer Williams suggested scheduling conflicts were an issue. (She also said she had heard Trump told Pence not to attend, but did not know why.) Parnas also said Trump did not cancel a Poland trip because of a hurricane — a dubious claim, given the political importance of hurricanes in the U.S.

8. Parnas actually shut down Maddow’s claims about “menacing” text messages about former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch. Democrats accused a former Republican congressional candidate, a man named Robert Hyde, of conducting mob-style surveillance on Yovanovitch. But Parnas said he never took Hyde’s texts seriously because he was “a weird character,” and “he was always drunk,” starting at 6:00 in the morning. “I’ve never seen him not drunk.”

9. Parnas claims Attorney General William Barr was “on the team” in Ukraine. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) referred to that claim in her press briefing Wednesday morning, saying Barr was “implicated.” But Parnas said he never spoke to Barr, and did not know whether Barr had ever spoken to any Ukrainian officials. President Trump had told Zelensky that Barr would work with him — which would be entirely legal, but which supposedly never happened anyway.

10. Maddow never asked Parnas about CNN’s claim about Devin Nunes going to Vienna. Recently, House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) sued CNN for defamation for claiming he had gone to Vienna to meet with a former Ukrainian prosecutor. Parnas was allegedly CNN’s source, the lawsuit states. (Nunes says that he was in Benghazi, Libya at the time.) Maddow asked about Nunes, but not about that; Parnas said he did not know Nunes too well.

‘Using Every Tool Available’: ICE Subpoenas Sanctuary City For Information On Wanted Illegal Aliens

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) subpoenaed Denver authorities for information on four illegal aliens who were previously arrested by the city for various violent crimes.

The agency says it’s being forced to ratchet up its approach with “sanctuary” jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities, leading to the subpoenas against the Denver government.

The four illegal aliens in question had not only been arrested for violent crimes, but also had all been previously deported. Despite ICE detainers, the city chose to release three of them and is expected to release the fourth.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement subpoenaed Denver officials for information on four illegal aliens wanted for deportation, marking a dramatic escalation in how the agency is dealing with sanctuary cities.

ICE subpoenaed Denver authorities for information on four illegal aliens who the city had previously arrested for violent crimes, the agency confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation. The undocumented aliens in question included three Mexican nationals and one Honduran national — all of whom had been previously deported before illegally reentering the country.

The Associated Press reported on the agency’s subpoenas Wednesday.

“On Monday, ICE issued four immigration subpoenas to the Denver Justice Center requesting information about egregious criminal aliens on whom ICE is seeking for immigration enforcement purposes. These aliens had all come into custody at the Denver Justice Center but were either released despite ICE having lodged a detainer or remain in custody,” an ICE spokesperson said to the DCNF.

Important Article just printed in last 2 hours that looks like failing fake NYT doing some 'controlled demolition' in an attempt to frame the narrative on damning disclosure. Lots of good data in this taint.

Hackers working for Dutch intelligence officials obtained the document and provided it to the F.B.I., and both its existence and the collection of it were highly classified secrets, the people said.  The document played a key role in Mr. Comey’s decision to sideline the Justice Department and announce in July 2016 that the F.B.I. would not recommend that Hillary Clinton face charges in her use of a private email server to conduct government business while secretary of state...

What prompted the inquiry is also unclear, but the Russian document was mentioned in a book published last fall, “Deep State: Trump, the F.B.I., and the Rule of Law” by James B. Stewart, a Times reporter...

The latest investigation involves material that Dutch intelligence operatives siphoned off Russian computers and provided to the United States government. The information included a Russian analysis of what appeared to be an email exchange during the 2016 presidential campaign between Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Democrat of Florida who was also the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee at the time, and Leonard Benardo, an official with the Open Society Foundations, a democracy-promoting organization whose founder, George Soros, has long been a target of the far right. 

In the email, Ms. Wasserman Schultz suggested that then-Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch would make sure that Mrs. Clinton would not be prosecuted in the email case. 

That document was one of the key factors that drove Mr. Comey to hold a news conference in July 2016 announcing that investigators would recommend no charges against Mrs. Clinton. Typically, senior Justice Department officials would decide how to proceed in such a high-profile case, but Mr. Comey was concerned that if Ms. Lynch played a central role in deciding whether to charge Mrs. Clinton, Russia could leak the email.Whether the document was fake remains an open question. But American officials at the time did not believe that Ms. Lynch would hinder the Clinton email investigation... "

AG Barr is under fire because he gained jurisdiction over the impeachment. He had NO jurisdiction while it was in the house and NO action to remove the president was taken. Formal action has been taken today.

The dems did NOT put forth articles of impeachment that meet the threshold of High Crimes and Misdemeanors, therefore this is an unconstitutional act by Congress to attempt to remove a sitting president.

Congress shall not commit an unconstitutional act. It shall be void.

The House has the sole responsibility to impeach. The Senate has the sole responsibility to try.

The House has committed an unconstitutional act by sending the articles to the Senate. Voting without sending them forward is 1 thing. The House turned jurisdiction over to the Senate triggering a trial for the purpose of removal.

AG Barr represents We The People. Because this situation involves the harm to many citizens, ( criminal or civil) he MUST engage.

He would be impeached himself if he refused to engage.

The reason the impeachment cannot be challenged while in the House by SC is because no 'damages' have happened.

Moving it to the Senate creates the 'Damage' state.

POTUS has been served and is NOW required to respond to charges.

He is supposed to be charged with High Crimes and Misdemeanors ( but that didn't happen ) and required to have personal counsel as well as WH counsel ( tax payer paid )

Legal action cannot ensue unless 'damage ' occurred. "Damage' has occurred today.

Schiff had legal protection on the floor of the House for his false statements, He no longer has that protection.None of them do.

1st order of business will be the House stating their case ( they have 24 collective hours ) They cannot go outside the 4 corners of their articles and claim additional acts beyond the 2. (ex: he shot someone on 5th ave)

I strayed a bit but hope you all understand the legal authority Barr has now that a trial has been triggered.Barr has to step in BEFORE false legal activity takes place that harms We The People. The Senate cannot march forward with an unconstitutional act or they themselves are acting unconstitutionally.

MEXICO CITY — The bodies of six children and a pregnant woman were found in a freshly dug grave in a remote, predominantly indigenous community on the Caribbean coast of Panama, possibly the sacrificial victims of a ritual performed by a religious sect, the Panamanian authorities said Thursday.

The victims had been kidnapped from their homes by other members of the community, beaten and killed, said Rafael Baloyes, the chief prosecutor for the province of Bocas del Toro.

Dr. Orient continues, “AAPS is not ‘anti-vaccine,’ but rather supports informed consent, based on an understanding of the full range of medical, legal, and economic considerations relevant to vaccination and any other medical intervention, which inevitably involves risks as well as benefits.”

AAPS argues in the complaint against Rep. Schiff: “The First Amendment protects the rights of free speech and association. Included within the right of free speech is a right to receive information from willing speakers. Yesterday, January 15, Governor Northam declared a temporary state of emergency and banned the carrying & possession of weapons on Capitol Square in Richmond from 5:00 pm Friday, January 17 to 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 21. 

Today, the legal teams of both VCDL and Gun Owners of America (GOA) sought an injunction against enforcement of Northam's Executive Order No. 49 (EO-49).  Unfortunately, the Circuit Court denied our request for an injunction.

Both VCDL and GOA believe the court erred in it's decision and our legal team immediately filed an Emergency Petition for Review with the Virginia Supreme Court.

First in 2020: India successfully launches GSAT-30 telecoms satellite

In its first space mission of the year, India has sent its GSAT-30 communications satellite into orbit, where it will replace another aging craft. The launch went off without a hitch.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) announced early on Friday that the spacecraft had reached orbit without issues. The launch was carried out from a facility in French Guiana in conjunction with French-based aerospace firm, Arianespace, which provided its Ariane 5 rockets for the mission.

“By operating GSAT-30, ISRO will – once again – foster the use of space to help bridge the digital divide in the Indian subcontinent as part of its ambitious space program,” an Arianespace spokesperson said in a statement.

China posts weakest growth in 29 years as trade war bites-Despite Q4 Rebound

China’s economic growth slowed to its weakest in nearly 30 years in 2019 amid a bruising trade war with the United States and sputtering investment, and more stimulus steps are expected this year to help avert a sharper slowdown. Industrial output grew 6.9% in December from a year earlier, the strongest pace in nine months. Analysts had expected growth to dip to 5.9% from 6.2% in November. Fixed-asset investment rose 5.4% for the full year, versus expectations for a 5.2% increase, the same as in the first 11 months of the year. Retail sales rose 8.0% in December on-year, compared with forecasts for 7.8% and November’s 8.0%.

Former L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca must report to prison by Feb. 5, judge rules

Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca must report to prison by Feb. 5 to begin serving a three-year sentence for his role in a scheme to obstruct an FBI investigation of abuses inside the county’s jails, a judge ruled Thursday.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson came three days after the U.S. Supreme Court denied a last-ditch, longshot request to review Baca’s case.

Baca, 77, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, was sentenced in 2017 after a jury found he oversaw the plan to interfere with the jails investigation and later lied to prosecutors about his role in the scheme.

He had been permitted to remain free while his case was on appeal.

On Monday, the high court denied Baca’s writ of certiorari, filed July 18, which would have reopened his case for review. Last year, a panel of judges from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that his conviction for helping orchestrate a scheme to interfere with an FBI investigation into abuses at the county’s jails was fair and legally sound. The panel also denied Baca’s requests for another hearing or a new hearing in front of the entire 9th Circuit.

The Supreme Court’s decision cleared the way for Anderson, who sentenced Baca, to set a date when the former lawman must begin serving his sentence.

The 9th Circuit issued a mandate sending notice to Anderson, effectively putting the case back in his jurisdiction, on Wednesday. On Thursday, Anderson ordered that Baca surrender within 21 days of the notice. He has until noon on the 21st day — Feb. 5 — the order states.

Baca was the last in a group of Sheriff’s Department deputies and commanders to be accused of playing a role in the 2011 scandal, which involved hiding an inmate who was an FBI informant and threatening to arrest the agent who was leading the investigation. All 10 of the people who faced charges in the case have either pleaded guilty or been convicted. They included Baca’s second-in-command, former Undersheriff Paul Tanaka, who in 2016 was sentenced to five years in prison after a jury found that he had played a leading role in the scheme.
