Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on Thursday responded to bombshell ballot harvesting videos released by Project Veritas.

In case you missed it, James O’Keefe released undercover videos showing an Ilhan Omar-connected harvester SEEN exchanging $200 for each General Election ballot. “We don’t care illegal.”…”We are taking the money and we’ll vote for you” “Ilhan Omar is the one who came up with all this.”

This is by far some of O’Keefe’s best work yet.

MSNBC labeled Project Veritas a “conspiracy theory silo” when teeing up Ilhan Omar with a softball question about the ballot harvesting videos.

“These people are disgusting,” Omar said lashing out at O’Keefe, Trump, and the conservative media for daring to report on the evidence of her campaign’s ballots-for-cash scheme.

Of course MSNBC covered for her as she played the ‘Somali refugee’ victim card and called the conservative media a bunch of conspiracy theorists.

Leaders of EU Countries Agreed During EU Summit on Sanctions Against Belarus

EU politicians have declined to endorse Alexander Lukashenko as the legitimate president of Belarus, despite him winning the August election with over 80 percent of the popular vote.

The leaders of the EU countries have reached an agreement on sanctions against the Belarusian government, Agence France-Presse reported on Friday, citing its diplomatic sources.

According to European Council President Charles Michel, President Lukashenko has not been included in the list of sanctions Belarusians yet, he noted.

"We have decided today to implement the sanctions [against Belarus] … Tomorrow with a written procedure we will implement the sanctions on Belarus. You know what was on the table is the list with about 40 names", Michel said at a press conference following the summit.

The diplomat added that sanctions on Belarus may be implemented immediately.

According to French President Emanuel Macron, Lukashenko may be included in the list of sanctioned Balrusians in case of failure to establish a dialogue with the people of Belarus. If the bloc had included the Belarusian president in the list, that would have meant a rejection of the dialogue, and the EU wants to engage Lukashenko in talks, he added.

Mass opposition protests broke out across Belarus following the presidential election on 9 August that saw President Alexander Lukashenko reelected for a sixth term. While electoral authorities maintain that Lukashenko collected over 80 percent of the vote, the opposition insists that his key contender, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, won the election.

Opposition figures also accuse the security forces of resorting to excessive violence during the protests.

The two-day EU summit in Brussels started on Thursday. The EU member states are focusing on the relations with Turkey and China; the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Belarus, Azerbaijan's breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the alleged poisoning of Russian opposition figure Alexey Navalny.

Trump Sowing Doubt In The Election Is ‘Aiding And Abetting’ Putin, HR McMaster Says

H.R. McMaster, President Donald Trump’s former national security advisor, said Thursday that the president is “aiding and abetting” Vladimir Putin’s efforts to undermine the American electoral system.

McMaster’s comment came during an interview on MSNBC in response to a question asking whether he agreed that Trump posed the biggest threat to the integrity of the nation’s election.

“I agree that he is aiding and abetting Putin’s efforts by not being direct about this, right? By not just calling out Putin for what he’s doing,” McMaster said.

“Putin gets away with, I mean, literally murder or attempted murder… because people don’t call him out on it. And so they are able to continue with this kind of firehose of falsehood, to sow these conspiracy theories,” he said, referring to the president’s claims regarding mail-in voting and widespread voter fraud, adding that “we just can’t be our own worst enemies.”

The president has repeatedly claimed that millions of “unsolicited” ballots are being sent to Americans in numerous states, and that “we may never know who won the election” as a result, though only four states are sending ballots to every registered voter for the first time in 2020, USA Today reported.

Trump picked McMaster to lead the White House National Security Council in 2017, Politico reported.

Though the risk for fraud is slightly higher with additional mail-in ballots, according to NPR, the risks are largely alleviated with proper security measures, and there is no proof of the widespread fraud that Trump claims will compromise the election, Politico reported.

Though McMaster is the most recent high-level former member of the Trump administration to publicly criticize the president, he is not the first. He was relieved from his role by the president in 2018.

Snapchat has helped more than one million people register to vote in November’s presidential elections, with 65 percent of those aged 24 or younger. About 64.5 percent of Snapchat users who signed up to vote using the app are in the 18-24 age bracket, Forbes reported. Snapchat told Forbes that it had seen more sign-ups in Texas than in any other state, although North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida have also seen a huge bump in voter registration sign-ups. During the 2018 midterm elections, more than 750,000 voters registered using Snapchat, and the company estimated that 57 percent of likely voters cast a ballot in those elections.

While 2.5 million voters registered through Facebook, Snapchat’s demographic is way younger and more likely to lean Democrat. Among the one million people who registered to vote in November’s election, 56 percent are first-time voters, according to Snapchat. All major social media platforms have released voter turnout related initiatives to get out the vote and decrease misinformation. Facebook introduced its voting resource guide for its American users in August. Twitter has also included voter registration tools and allowed users to view other election-related information through the app. TikTok also launched a voter information guide within its mobile app with candidate information and how to vote by state. Unlike its other social media counterparts, the Chinese social media company only gives out information about voting instead of directly offering voter registration through its platform.

Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx announced Wednesday that she pulled out of a campaign debate due to attacks from her Republican rival. Judge Pat O’Brien last month called Foxx a “social worker, not a prosecutor,” at a fiery debate between the two candidates. Cook County, which is home to Chicago and many of its surrounding suburbs, is the second-most populated county in the U.S. with 5.15 million residents, trailing only Los Angeles County in California. “We learned during the recent Ed board interviews, that the State’s Attorney participated in with Mr. O’Brien, that he will instead use the time for Trump-like name calling and fear mongering,” Foxx spokesperson Alex Sims told the Chicago Tribune in a statement. “During this nationwide crisis, she will not sit across the stage from a Republican that exploits tragedy to win a campaign.”

O’Brien told the Tribune in a statement that the campaign is “one of the most important and high-profile races in the state,” and that voters “deserve to know the substantial differences” between him and Foxx. Yet another highly unusual event is headed our way in this extremely bizarre year. The 2020 Halloween full moon will be visible to the entire world, rather than just parts of it, for the first time since World War II, astronomy educator and former planetarium director Jeffrey Hunt says. And you can get a preview of the holiday event beginning Thursday, Oct. 1, when the month's first full moon romantically called the "harvest moon" will be visible.

This full moon will appear full for about three days, beginning around 5 p.m. ET on Oct. 1 and running through Saturday morning, Oct. 3, NASA says. The harvest moon is the name given for the full moon closest to the start of fall. It usually occurs in September, but this year, it's showing up in October. And it's just a preview for the second full moon of the month, the Halloween full moon, known as the blue moon because it's the second full moon of the same month.

"When I was teaching, my high school students thought a full moon occurred every Halloween," Hunt told me. Not quite, though pop culture decorations sure make it seem that way. The last Halloween full moon visible around the globe came in 1944, he said. He's written about the event on his web site, When the Curves Line Up. There was a Halloween full moon for some locations in 1955, but that didn't include western North America and the western Pacific, Hunt says.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange reopened trading on Friday, bringing some relief to market participants who were unable to execute trades on Thursday due to a system outage that halted all activity.

Trading began at 9 a.m. as normal and without limits, based on Wednesday's close as starting prices. The TSE replaced its equipment that caused the system failure and confirmed that the trading system worked without problems. The equity benchmark Nikkei Stock Average opened up 109 points, or 0.5%. The index managed to climb by 180 points but lost momentum to trade slightly above Wednesday's closing price. The spurt comes on the back of U.S. stock gains. While a sense of relief spread in the market once trading activity resumed, "many investors are still uneasy and are choosing to wait and see instead of actively trade," said Masahiro Ichikawa, senior strategist at Sumitomo Mitsui DS Asset Management. "Detailed reasons for the outage remain unclear. Fujitsu and the TSE will have to continue investigating and be transparent to the public to restore the market's trust," he added.

Trading resumed for about 3,700 listed stocks as well as exchange-traded funds and real estate investment trusts. Local exchanges such as the Nagoya Stock Exchange, Fukuoka Stock Exchange and Sapporo Securities Exchange, who use the same system as the TSE, also reopened on Friday. Shares in Fujitsu opened higher, rising by 1% at one point, but quickly lost momentum and is down more than 3% in early trade. The information technology services company developed the TSE's "arrowhead" trading system. The company has apologized for its hardware failure. Japan Exchange Group also rose higher but quickly slipped into negative territory; it was down more than 1%. The trading halt likely wiped out 3 trillion yen ($28 billion) in buying and selling opportunities, but the TSE said it is not considering asking Fujitsu for compensation.
