Opposition to convicting Trump in impeachment trial increasing among Senate Republicans
1-25-21
Opposition to convicting former President Trump in an impeachment trial is growing among Senate Republicans as the trial date approaches.
The Democratic-led House is expected to formally deliver the article of impeachment for "incitement of insurrection" to the U.S. Senate on Monday evening.
Democrats now control the Senate with Vice President Kamala Harris as the tie-breaking vote. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has said a trial is set to begin the week of Feb. 8 and all senators will have a chance to take a position on the article. Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy, the Senate president pro tempore, announced on Monday that he will be presiding over the trial.
"I think a lot of Americans are going to think it's strange that the Senate is spending its time trying to convict and remove from office a man who left office a week ago," said Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton on Sunday.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio shared a similar opinion, arguing that holding a trial in the Senate is not worth the Senate's time. Rubio said he would vote to end the trial "the first chance" he gets.
"I think the trial is stupid. I think it’s counterproductive," Rubio told Fox News. "We already have a flaming fire in this country and it's like taking a bunch of gasoline and pouring it on top of the fire."
Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso and Texas Sen. John Cornyn have also criticized the decision to move forward with a trial.
As the Senate works to confirm President Joe Biden's cabinet nominees, Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, has said the impeachment of a former president is "unconstitutional" and it would "set a very dangerous precedent."

Over 68 earthquakes recorded near Rotorua, New Zealand
More than 68 shakes have been recorded near Rotorua, New Zealand, since 18:47 UTC on January 24, 2021 (07:47 LT on January 25), with magnitudes up to 4.9 and depth of 5 km (3 miles), according to GeoNet.
More than 5 200 people reported feeling the tremors on the GeoNet website, with a resident describing one shake as the biggest. "[It was] the biggest I have felt in years. I am still shaking." Another resident also said, "The biggest one went so long I didn't think it would end,"
The first quake had a magnitude of 4.5 located 20 km (12 miles) east of Rotorua at a depth of 4 km (2.5 miles).
It was then followed by an M4.9 aftershock in the same area, at a depth of 5 km (3 miles), as well as several more tremblors.
Bay of Plenty Civil Defence stated in a post on social media that a lot of people reported swaying, but "at this stage, we are not aware of any damage."
"Some things are still being checked as a precaution, especially because they were such shallow quakes."

China’s Xi warns Davos World Economic Forum against ‘new Cold War’
Beijing - Chinese President Xi Jinping warned global leaders at an all-virtual Davos forum Monday against starting a “new Cold War”, and urged global unity in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
Having largely curbed the spread of the pandemic within its borders, Xi wants to position China as a key player in a new multilateral world order as the US remains crippled by the pandemic. “To build small cliques or start a new Cold War, to reject, threaten or intimidate others… will only push the world into division,” said Xi in a likely veiled attack on US President Joe Biden’s plans to revitalise global alliances to counter China’s growing influence.
In a swipe at moves targeting China launched by the previous US administration under President Donald Trump, Xi said confrontation “will always end up harming every nation’s interests and sacrificing people’s welfare”. The Chinese leader also reaffirmed Beijing’s ambitious climate pledges to slash carbon emissions by 65 per cent by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 – both significant commitments as China emits a quarter of the world’s greenhouse gases.
“Meeting these targets will require tremendous hard work from China. But we believe that when the interests of the entire humanity are at stake, China must step forward, take action and get the job done,” he said. Xi also called for stronger global governance via multilateral organisations, the removal of barriers to international trade, investment and tech exchanges, as well as stronger representation on the world stage for developing countries.
stressed the importance of strengthening macroeconomic policies to combat the pandemic-induced global economic downturn. “We must build an open world economy, firmly safeguard the multilateral trade system, and refrain from making discriminatory and exclusive standards, rules and systems, as well as high walls that separate trade, investment, and technology,” he said.
Economic growth
China saw its GDP increase 2.3 percent last year, according to official data the lowest growth rate since 1976 but it is nonetheless expected to be the only major economy to have expanded in the pandemic-ravaged year.

Border Wall Contractors Told to Stop Construction by Tuesday Night: Congressman
All Customs and Border Protection (CPB) construction on the U.S.-Mexico border wall will stop by the end of Tuesday, according to a Democratic congressman whose district is located along the border.
“I received notification that in accordance with President [Joe] Biden’s executive order, all CPB contractors have now been formally notified by CBP Procurement to pause construction activities on CBP self-executed projects,” Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) said in a statement. “While CBP cannot speak on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense or U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), it is expected that DOD and USACE are undertaking parallel action on CBP-funded border wall projects that they are overseeing.”
The Epoch Times has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees the CBP, for comment about the wall construction halt.
The Trump administration had obtained billions of dollars in funding to construct the wall. Over the last four years, amid legal and congressional battles, about 450 miles of the wall were built along the border.
The wall stoppage on Tuesday complies with Biden’s executive orders that were issued last week. The order halted projects where money was shifted from military projects to the border.
“This is a promising step in our work to halt construction of the ineffective and wasteful border wall and undo the damage that borderlands have experienced these past four years,” Cueller continued in his statement. “However, our work continues. I remain steadfast in my commitment to working with the new administration until every border wall contract is terminated and all construction crews leave our border communities.”

Putin in First Talk With Biden: Normalisation of US-Russian Ties in Interests of Both States
While the Biden administration has previously expressed readiness to work with Moscow to prevent the expiration of the last remaining arms control accord between the two countries, it is reportedly not planning on "resetting" the deteriorating relations with the Kremlin.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has said in his first telephone talk with newly sworn-in US President Joe Biden that a normalisation of ties between Washington and Moscow is in the interests of both countries. Putin added that an improvement in the dialogue between the two powers would also benefit the whole world due to their influence on global security and stability.
The two presidents over the phone also discussed the issue of the rapidly approaching expiry of the New START treaty – the last arms accord between the two states limiting their nuclear arsenals. Both Biden and Putin expressed satisfaction with the preliminary agreement on the treaty's extension. The formal procedures for the New START extension will be concluded in the coming days, the Kremlin said soon after the end of the presidents' conversation.

Twitter permanently suspends My Pillow CEO for election misinformation
(Reuters) - Twitter Inc has permanently suspended the account of My Pillow chief Mike Lindell for repeated violations of the company’s policy on election misinformation, the social media firm said late on Monday.
Lindell, a devout supporter of former U.S. President Donald Trump, financed post-election protest movements in a bid to overturn the election win of President Joe Biden.
Lindell used his personal Twitter account, which had nearly half a million followers before being suspended, and the company’s account to spread unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud in the presidential election.
Courts have rejected such baseless claims, even as Trump and his supporters continued to falsely allege there being voter fraud.

Former ambassador to Germany Ric Grenell on Sunday claimed Susan Rice, tapped by President-elect Joe Biden to run the Foreign Policy Council, will really act as the “shadow president” in the administration.
In an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Grenell said “you need to watch Susan Rice very closely.
“She will be the shadow president,” he claimed. “We have a president-elect in Joe Biden who clearly is not the Joe Biden of 10 years ago. He's not even the Joe Biden of five years ago when it comes to policy issues.

US Judge Rejects Biden's Halt of Deportation After Texas Legal Challenge
Earlier in the month, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed first legal action against the Biden administration over the initiative of 100-day deportation freeze, accusing the president of violating of immigration law and failing to consult with Texas on the matter.
US federal judge Drew Tipton on Tuesday issued a temporary restraining order, blocking Joe Biden's 100-day deportation freeze initiative for 14 days after the legal challenge initiated by Texas Attorney General.
The court also ordered the parties to propose a briefing schedule no later than 28 January.
"This TRO is granted on a nationwide basis and prohibits enforcement and implementation of the policies described in the January 20 Memorandum in Section C entitled "Immediate 100-Day Pause of Removals" in every place Defendants have jurisdiction to enforce and implement the January 20 Memorandum", the court said.

— Michael Board (@MikeBoard1200) January 26, 2021
The block of deportation freeze prompted swift reaction from AG Ken Paxton, who touted Texas as "the FIRST state in the nation to bring a lawsuit against the Biden Admin[istration]".
"AND WE WON", Paxton tweeted Tuesday. "Within 6 days of Biden’s inauguration, Texas has HALTED his illegal deportation freeze. *This* was a seditious left-wing insurrection. And my team and I stopped it."
VICTORY.
Texas is the FIRST state in the nation to bring a lawsuit against the Biden Admin.

— Attorney General Ken Paxton (@KenPaxtonTX) January 26, 2021
Last week, Paxton took legal action against the Biden administration ordering "a blanket halt on nearly all deportations of illegal aliens" for 100 days. Texas Attorney General asserted that the move had breached the agreement between the state and the federal government.
"Border states like Texas pay a particularly high price when the federal government fails to faithfully execute our country’s immigration laws. Your attempted halt on almost all deportations would increase the cost to Texas caused by illegal immigration", Paxton said in his press release on 21 January.

U.S. judge blocks Biden deportation freeze in swift setback for Democratic president
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A federal judge in Texas on Tuesday temporarily blocked a move by new U.S. President Joe Biden to halt the deportation of certain immigrants for a 100-day period, a swift legal setback for his ambitious immigration agenda.
U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton, an appointee of former President Donald Trump in the Southern District of Texas, issued a temporary restraining order that blocks the policy nationwide for 14 days following a legal challenge by Texas.
The Biden administration is expected to appeal the ruling, which halts the policy while both parties submit briefs on the matter.
Biden promised on the campaign trail to enact a 100-day moratorium on deportations if elected, a proposal that contrasted sharply with the immigration crackdown promoted by Trump, a Republican.
After Biden took office on Wednesday, the top official at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a memo that ordered a pause on certain deportations to enable the department to better deal with “operational challenges” at the U.S.-Mexico border during the pandemic.
In a complaint filed on Friday, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said the state would face irreparable harm if the deportation freeze was allowed to go into effect. Paxton, a Republican, said it would increase education and healthcare costs as more immigrants remained in Texas illegally.
Paxton also said it went against the terms of an enforcement agreement Texas brokered with the Trump administration less than two weeks before Biden took office.
During Trump’s presidency, Democrat-led states and other opponents of his immigration policies were able to thwart or delay many initiatives through legal challenges. Texas is expected to contest Biden’s agenda in a similar fashion.

Breaking - YouTube strips rising media company Epoch Times of ability to monetize video content
YouTube, the video platform service that is a Google subsidiary, has banned The Epoch Times, a rising, conservative-leaning media outlet, from earning money off its videos.
"YouTube demonetized the Epoch Times and related accounts last week," Stephen Gregory, publisher of The Epoch Times confirmed to Just the News on Tuesday in an email. "This is the latest example of big tech suppression of free speech, a step on the road to communist-style censorship."
A YouTube spokesperson acknowledged Tuesday in an email to Just the News that the company had demonetized the publication's channel and affiliated channels and had suspended them from the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) – over issues related to harmful or sensitive content.
"All channels on YouTube need to comply with our Community Guidelines, and in order to monetize, channels must comply with the YouTube Partner Program policies, which include our Advertiser-Friendly Guidelines," the spokesperson also said. "Channels that repeatedly violate these policies are suspended from our partner program."
The spokesperson noted that channels removed from its partner program are able to appeal the decision or reapply to YPP in 30 days, provided the underlying issues that led to suspension have been addressed to YouTube's liking.
The move by YouTube follows Twitter earlier this month de-platforming former President Trump and some conservative users, and the app Parler being denied web hosting services by Amazon.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Jan. 13 issued civil investigative demands to Google, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon Web Services, and Apple, asking the companies for their policies and practices regarding content moderation and, more specifically, for information related to Parler, a social media application popular among conservatives that was recently terminated or blocked by Google, Amazon, and Apple.
On Thursday, a federal judge denied Parler's request to have Amazon immediately restore its web service, saying she rejects "any suggestion that the public interest favors requiring AWS to host the incendiary speech."
Larry Elder, a prominent, African-American conservative filmmaker who hosts a video series for The Epoch Times, confirmed during an interview with the "Just the News AM" television program that the de-monetization hit him personally, reducing his income.
"We have to build our own infrastructure, our own social media platforms," Elder said, pointing to alternative social platforms like Gab.com and video service Rumble.com. "The only answer is not to bitch, moan and whine about how how unfairly we're being treated, not to run to the government to pass more regulations. The answer is to build our own platforms. And we have been asleep at the switch."

The outage is purportedly from Boston to Washington, D.C.
major internet outage Tuesday from Washington, D.C., to Boston is affecting internet, cloud providers and a number of Google services and Facebook, according to the Associated Press.
Verizon reported via Twitter a cut fiber in Brooklyn, but it's not clear whether that caused the entire outage. The telecom giant didn’t have any estimate when the problem spot would be fixed.
Neither Verizon nor Comcast, another major internet service provider, immediately responded to requests for comment, the wire service also reports.

Bank Buybacks Surge To Highest Level Since March
Remember when the Fed and the administration were both raging against corporate buybacks, which especially in the case of airline and various service stocks, were the primary reason why so many companies found themselves without a cash buffer as the covid pandemic struck.
Well, it anyone hoped that companies would have learned their lesson - or any lesson - from the pandemic and instead of distributing capital to shareholders would save it for a rainy day, get ready to be disappointed. Because not only are buybacks back, they are back thanks to the Fed's approval of banks to generously return billions back to shareholders.
As Bank of America's Jill Carey Hall writes today, buybacks by BofA's corporate clients over the past three weeks have picked up to their highest levels since March. With Banks allowed to buy back stock again in 1Q, Financials buybacks increased back to March levels. The number is modest as financials comprised just 7% of buybacks from 2Q-4Q last year after making up 40% of buybacks in 2019; we expect these numbers to ramp up aggressively in the coming months as financial engineering returns to normal and as companies across all sectors quietly resume issuing debt and using the proceeds to prop up their stock price.

IMF lifts global growth forecast for 2021, still sees 'exceptional uncertainty'
The International Monetary Fund on Tuesday raised its forecast for global economic growth in 2021 and said the coronavirus-triggered downturn last year - the biggest peacetime contraction since the Great Depression - would be nearly a full percentage point less severe than expected. The global lender said multiple vaccine approvals and the start of vaccinations in some countries had boosted hopes of an eventual end to the pandemic that has now infected nearly 100 million people and claimed the lives of more than 2.1 million globally.
But it warned that the world economy continued to face “exceptional uncertainty” and new waves of COVID-19 infections and variants posed risks, and global activity would remain well below pre-COVID-19 projections made one year ago.
IMF chief economist Gita Gopinath said U.S. President Joe Biden’s pledge to fund the World Health Organization’s COVAX vaccine initiative marked “a very big step” to containing the pandemic and ensuring more equitable distribution of vaccines.
“Much more will be needed, because as we can see, given the mutating virus, that this is not a problem that’s going away anytime soon,” Gopinath told a news conference.
“There is still a tremendous amount of uncertainty,” she told Reuters in a separate interview. “We know that the health crisis is not over until it’s over everywhere.”
Gopinath said the global economy could gain $9 trillion between 2020 and 2025 if faster progress could be made in ending the health crisis, and it was clearly in the interest of advanced economies to help poorer countries recover.
“There’s a complete economic sense to do this, and do it right now,” she told Reuters.
The IMF estimates that close to 90 million people are likely to fall below the extreme poverty threshold during 2020-2021, with the pandemic wiping some out $22 trillion in projected output through 2025 and reversing progress made in reducing poverty over the past two decades.

Biden Administration Claims of Failed Trump Vaccine Rollout ‘Absolutely Preposterous’ Says HHS
Health officials are fighting back against the outrageous accusations
The idea that the Biden administration inherited no plan for administering COVID-19 vaccines is “absolutely preposterous” former Health and Human Services chief of staff Brian Harrison told National Review. President Biden himself, along with several of his administration’s advisers and officials have been on a rampant media tour falsely telling the American people they had been left powerless, uninformed and unprepared to administer the coronavirus vaccine from the Trump administration.
Health officials are fighting back against the outrageous accusations. Biden press secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday, “The confusion around this issue – which, we acknowledge, there is some confusion – speaks to a larger problem, which is what we’re inheriting from the prior administration.” Psaki went on to say it “is much worse than we could have imagined.”
Or is it? National Review reports, “per vaccination data from Bloomberg, the U.S. has now hit 1 million vaccinations for four days in a row, with a rolling seven-day average of 1.2 million. And on Monday, Biden himself said he hoped to raise the threshold to 1.5 million soon.” Anyone with a first-grade education can understand those numbers couldn’t be derived out of thin air. “The new administration’s ability to hit its daily target immediately after the benchmark was set is evidence that they inherited a workable plan from the Trump administration, according to current and former officials.”
Fauci himself publicly refuted Biden officials’ claims that the administration inherited nothing of substance and was forced to begin at “square one.” Harrison explains that such an accusation is “absolutely preposterous.”
“We provided the Biden team over 300 transition meetings, including the very first one on Warp Speed which I kicked off myself,” said Harrison. “The idea that they’re walking in, having no clue what was going on, is absolutely preposterous” he added.
As for the distribution of the vaccine, which is being managed by U.S. Army general Gustave Perna, one former official described it as “extraordinarily detailed” and “comprehensive.” There has been a “99.99 percent success rate of shipping to the right place at the right time in the right quantity, under the right conditions” said the official.
Furthermore, there were plans in place for rollout led by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “CDC was the one who volunteered – not volunteered, asserted 0 itself to the task, and said that they were going to be in charge of this because they were in charge of pandemic influenza distribution and allocation” explained one former senior HHS official. Moral of the story? The Biden administration is unequivocally lying about the vaccine rollout.

Judge rules Virginia elections board violated law with late absentee mail-in ballot rule
The decision will affect future elections in Virginia going forward
Last August, the Virginia Board of Elections issued a rule that would've allowed elections officials to count late mail-in ballots that arrived without a postmark up to three days after the November election. On Monday, a state judge ruled that the board's decision was illegal.
Virginia Circuit Court Judge William Eldridge said that Virginia's mail-in ballot rule violated state elections law and issued an injunction preventing the state from adopting the rule for future elections, the Daily Caller reported. The judge's decision was announced by the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF), a legal group representing Frederick County electoral board member Thomas Reed in his case against the state mail-in ballot law.
"This is a big win for the Rule of Law," PILF President and General Counsel J. Christian Adams said. "This consent decree gives Mr. Reed everything he requested – a permanent ban on accepting ballots without postmarks after Election Day and is a loss for the Virginia bureaucrats who said ballots could come in without these protections."
The Virginia Board of Elections issued its election guidance to county boards on Aug. 4, 2020, notifying them that any ballots "received by the general registrar's office by noon on the third day after the election … but does not have a postmark, or the postmark is missing or illegible" were not to be rendered invalid. But a week later, the elections board decided that such ballots should be counted.
On Oct. 13, PILF filed a lawsuit against the state elections board on behalf of Reed, who argued that he would not enforce the directive because it violated state law.
The relevant Virginia statute states: "Any absentee ballot returned to the general registrar after the closing of the polls on election day but before noon on the third day after the election and postmarked on or before the date of the election shall be counted." Reed's lawyers argued that a plain reading of state law prevents ballots that lack a postmark from being counted.
Two weeks later on Oct. 28, 2020, the court sided with Reed in a preliminary injunction hearing, issuing an order that prevented the state of Virginia from accepting and counting late absentee ballots that were missing postmarks.
The result is that none of the contested ballots were counted in the November election and Judge Eldridge's final ruling siding with Reed over the Virginia elections board will not change the outcome.
The ruling, however, will apply to future elections in Virginia, including the November 2021 gubernatorial and state legislature elections.

Bombardier E-11A is the military variant of the civil Bombardier BD-700 Global Express for use as overhead communications-relay platform in southwest Asia. The BD-700 was selected due to its high service ceiling, up to 51,000 ft and up to 12 hours flight duration. Initially aircraft was designated as RC-700 under the reconnaissance classification but later was re-designated as the E-11A under the special electronics installations category. The E-11A is a U.S. Air Force aircraft that provides unparalleled communications capabilities to forces on the ground and aircraft in the air. Commonly known as Battlefield Airborne Communications Node, or BACN, this aircraft extends the range of communications channels and enables better communication among units. This element is essential where the terrain may disrupt communications channels and it enables ground forces to know what is around them when something is not in their line of sight.

White House Cites Economists’ Claim That Fixing Racial Inequality Could Add $5 Trillion To The Economy In Next Five Years
Susan Rice, President Joe Biden’s designee to serve as director of the Domestic Policy Council, cited economic projections Tuesday that suggest that taking steps to fix racial inequality could add $5 trillion to the economy over the next five years.
Rice opened Tuesday’s White House press briefing by speaking on the executive orders Biden will sign Tuesday afternoon, claiming that Biden’s policies will make “the American dream real for families across the nation by taking ambitious steps to redress equality in our economy.”
“These aren’t feel-good policies. The evidence is clear,” she continued. “Investing in equity is good for economic growth, and it creates jobs for all Americans.”
“Economists have estimated that the U.S. economy has lost a staggering $16 trillion over the last 20 years because of discrimination against families of color,” Rice continued. “If we closed racial gaps in income and opportunity, these same economists have estimated we could add $5 trillion to the U.S. economy over the next five years and add over 6 million new jobs for all Americans.”

Judge bars Biden from enforcing 100-day deportation ban
A federal judge on Tuesday barred the U.S. government from enforcing a 100-day deportation moratorium that is a key immigration priority of President Joe Biden.
U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton issued a temporary restraining order sought by Texas, which sued on Friday against a Department of Homeland Security memo that instructed immigration agencies to pause most deportations. Tipton said the Biden administration had failed “to provide any concrete, reasonable justification for a 100-day pause on deportations.” Tipton’s order is an early blow to the Biden administration, which has proposed far-reaching changes sought by immigration advocates, including a plan to legalize an estimated 11 million immigrants living in the U.S. illegally. Biden promised during his campaign to issue the moratorium.
The order represents a victory for Texas’ Republican leaders, who often sued to stop programs enacted by Biden’s Democratic predecessor, President Barack Obama. It also showed that just as Democratic-led states and immigration groups fought former President Donald Trump over immigration in court, often successfully, so too will Republicans with Biden in office.
David Pekoske, the acting Homeland Security secretary, signed a memo on Biden’s first day directing immigration authorities to focus on national security and public safety threats as well as anyone apprehended entering the U.S. illegally after Nov. 1. That was a reversal from Trump administration policy that made anyone in the U.S. illegally a priority for deportation.
The 100-day moratorium went into effect Friday and applied to almost anyone who entered the U.S. without authorization before November.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton argued that the moratorium violated federal law as well as an agreement Texas signed with the Department of Homeland Security late in the Trump administration. That agreement required Homeland Security to consult with Texas and other states before taking any action to “reduce, redirect, reprioritize, relax, or in any way modify immigration enforcement.”
The Biden administration argued in court filings that the agreement is unenforceable because “an outgoing administration cannot contract away that power for an incoming administration.” Paxton’s office, meanwhile, submitted a Fox News opinion article as evidence that “refusal to remove illegal aliens is directly leading to the immediate release of additional illegal aliens in Texas.”

Florida offers to replace Tokyo as Summer Olympics host
Florida's chief financial officer has asked the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to consider relocating the 2021 Games to the Sunshine State amid speculation that Tokyo organisers may back out as hosts due to concerns about the COVID-19 outbreak.
Tokyo organisers have vowed to press ahead with the re-scheduled Games, which are due to open on July 23 after being postponed for a year because of the novel coronavirus, but Florida's Jimmy Patronis has offered an alternative option. "There is still time to deploy a site selection team to Florida to meet with statewide and local officials on holding the Olympics in the Sunshine State," Patronis said in a letter sent this week to IOC President Thomas Bach. "I would welcome the opportunity to pitch Florida and help you make the right contacts to get this done."
In an email to Reuters, the IOC said it has not received a letter from Patronis and referred to the statement issued last Friday that said it is committed to having the Olympic Games in Tokyo this year. Given all the planning and preparations necessary to host an Olympics, it is virtually impossible to relocate the event within six months of the scheduled opening ceremony.
In his letter, Patronis drew attention to what he called the strength of the state's vaccination roll-out along with Florida holding several sporting events, including the entirety of last year's NBA playoffs, during the pandemic. Florida's death toll from the novel coronavirus has topped 25,000. The cumulative death toll from the virus in Japan topped 5,000 over the weekend.
"Whatever precautions are required let's figure it out and get it done," wrote Patronis.

Biden abolishes ‘offensive’ 1776 Commission, reverses Trump policy on racial training
President Biden on Tuesday said he’s abolishing former President Donald Trump’s “offensive” 1776 Commission on “patriotic education” and loosening rules on racial sensitivity training imposed by Trump.
The 1776 Commission released a “final report” this month after it was formed ahead of the Nov. 3 election. Trump’s ban on critical race theory, also established last year, forbade federal application of the ideology to train federal workers on “white privilege.”
“I’m rescinding the previous administration’s harmful ban on diversity and sensitivity training and abolish[ing] the offensive, counterfactual 1776 Commission. Unity and healing must begin with understanding and truth. Not ignorance and lies,” Biden said at the White House.
Biden signed four executive orders at the event, each apparently unrelated to the commission or racial trainings, which Trump created by executive order.
Documents signed Tuesday by Biden ordered the Department of Housing and Urban Development to address racism in federal housing policies, the Justice Department to end use of private prisons, the feds to strengthen relationships with American Indian tribes and the government to oppose anti-Asian American discrimination.
“Our soul will be troubled as long as systemic racism is allowed to persist. We can’t eliminate — it’s not gonna be overnight, we can eliminate everything. But it’s corrosive, it is destructive and it’s costly,” Biden said.
Biden as a candidate was often on the receiving end of criticism on racial issues.

Trump’s 1776 Commission slams ‘destructive scholarship’ in final report
Left-wing and conservative critics highlighted the Biden-authored 1986 and 1994 crime laws’ contribution to the mass incarceration of minorities, and Vice President Kamala Harris, as a 2020 presidential candidate, famously criticized Biden’s historical opposition to a federal role in interracial school busing.
“That little girl was me,” Harris told Biden on a debate stage, recalling her alleged experience being part of the first classes to integrate.
Trump signed the First Step Act in 2018 including provisions targeted to help minority individuals incarcerated under Biden’s crime bills.
The reform law allowed 2,600 primarily black inmates convicted of crack cocaine crimes to petition for reduced sentences. Biden’s 1986 legislation created significant sentencing disparities between powder and crack cocaine, contributing to racial disparities in prison populations.

Report: 81 Election Fraud Cases Brought To Courts, 30 Active Cases
OAN Newsroom
UPDATED 1:10 PM PT – Tuesday, January 26, 2021
The Alliance for Wise Energy Decisions has put together a comprehensive list of all of the court cases on election fraud brought forward in recent months.
The group found there have been a total of 81 cases filed in Pennsylvania, Nevada, New Jersey, Montana, Minnesota, Michigan, Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, New Mexico, North Carolina, Iowa, Colorado, Texas, New York, Ohio and Washington D.C.
Many of those that are still active were filed in the battleground states, where county totals were decided by just a handful of votes.
The case brought by the President’s campaign against the Secretary of Pennsylvania entered it’s third round as the petitioner pushed for the state Supreme Court to consolidate and reconsider former rulings regarding the counting of thousands of ballots that were improperly cast, but counted anyway.
The Nevada Republican Central Committee v. Clark County was filed in October and called for election officials to make voter records public as vote by mail processes led to a number of issues in the days following the election. In November, a judge ruled the county must reveal the number of ballots that were flagged due to signature issues, including signatures that were missing or unmatched.
While a majority of the lawsuits were brought forth by the President and his team, pockets of voters from across the country became their own advocates, filing lawsuits against election officials and state leaders all on their own.
One such group of voters in Georgia, many of whom doubled as poll tabulators and electors, filed suit detailing numerous instances of voting irregularities. A hearing was held in early January where the petitioners had the chance to bring their concerns forward.
“It is clear from the video that the people’s business in this very important process that we all hold so dear in this democracy, called elections, a one man one vote, was conducted in secrecy, not in the open,” Bob Cheeley, attorney for the petitioner stated.
Meanwhile in Arizona, two groups, “Mi Familia Vota” and “Arizona Coalition for Change” sued Secretary of State Katie Hobbs.
The two groups ran voter registration drives and reported signing up more than 1,500 voters a week until last minute coronavirus restrictions brought their operations to a near standstill. They alleged Hobb’s deadline for registration violated their First Amendment right to free speech, and further violated the due process clause outlined in the 14th Amendment.
The report went on to say millions of Americans are disappointed with the U.S. judiciary system, with many concerned the issues of 2020 may come back to haunt voters just in time for the midterms.

So they already had the bills printed up and the thinking was that if they failed with the Gold Bonds all you had to do was tear the new one in half…discard the left side (no gold on that side) and POOF already new currency with the "proper" gold backing .
They knew it was going to work (the Gold Bonds) so they just held those back as they were already done.
There is video from 2007 that shows them being printed up and the Bldg is covered in green curtains from the inside (ala Wizarrd of Oz)
So the theory is that after the Gold bonds backed "everything" they got the bright idea to just go ahead and print up duplicate serial numbers across the entire currency issue-this is where the counterfitters come in that were in the Phillipines and SoKo.
Called them Super Notes
Moar to this but that is the basic part of it

China To Hold Military Drills In Gulf Of Tonkin As Warning To Nearby US Carrier Group
BY TYLER DURDEN
TUESDAY, JAN 26, 2021 - 17:05
China has announced plans to hold military exercises in the South China Sea this week, a mere days after the Pentagon confirmed a US aircraft carrier group led by the USS Theodore Roosevelt had entered the disputed waters in a "freedom of the seas" operation and after daily Chinese incursions of Taiwan's airspace had been reported the prior week.
Beijing, indignant at the US muscle-flexing in its own backyard, will hold the drills in the Gulf of Tonkin also during a crucial week top Communist Party leaders of Vietnam are meeting for the once in five years National Congress to select a new leader for the country.
Reuters reports of the new Chinese military drills, "A notice issued by the country’s Maritime Safety Administration prohibited entry into a portion of waters in the Gulf of Tonkin to the west of the Leizhou peninsula in southwestern China from Jan. 27 to Jan. 30, but it did not offer details on when the drills would take place or at what scale."
The new drill notification came after on Monday Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian slammed the nearby US military movements:
"It does no good to regional peace and stability for the United States to frequently send military vessels and aircraft to the South China Sea to show off muscles," Zhao said.
He further said, "We urge the US side to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, prudently and properly handle Taiwan-related issues, and refrain from sending any wrong signals to the 'Taiwan independence' forces so as to avoid damaging China-US relations and peace and fefrain from sending any wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" forces so as to avoid damaging China-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait."
Meanwhile, over the past week Taiwan has on multiple occasions scrambled jets to warn off Chinese aerial provocations, including over the weekend multiple Chinese bombers being sent in a flyover.

Biden’s Pick for Secretary of State, Tony Blinken, Is Connected to Biden Family in Their Shady Deals with China and Ukraine
By Joe Hoft
Published January 26, 2021 at 11:31am
Biden’s pick for Secretary of State is connected with the Bidens in both China and Ukraine. He’s the best man for the job.
The pick for the Biden Administration’s Secretary of State, Tony Blinken, was involved in shady Biden deals in China:
Tony Blinken, the Biden administration’s nominee for Secretary of State, managed a Joe Biden project that received millions of anonymous Chinese donor dollars. Blinken appeared a handful of times in emails found on Hunter Biden’s laptop agreeing to advise Hunter Biden when Hunter worked at the scandal-plagued firm Rosemont Seneca Partners. The Obama State Department set up a meeting between Hunter and Blinken which was postponed, and the two met two months later in 2015.
Hunter Biden coordinated introductions between Blinken and his associates, and Blinken was named in an email in connection to a shady prospective deal involving the federal government and Amtrak, a company that previously had Hunter Biden on its board.
In addition, Blinken is connected to the Bidens in Ukraine.

Tulsi Gabbard: Brennans, Schiffs, and Big Tech Oligarchs More Dangerous than Mob that Stormed Capitol
Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard blasted former CIA Director John Brennan, House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), and big tech “oligarchs” seeking to censor fellow Americans after the January 6 Capitol riot.
Gabbard shared a video statement online where she criticized them for trying to take away Americans’ constitutionally protected rights. She said in the video:
The mob that stormed the Capitol on January 6 to try to stop Congress from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities were behaving like domestic enemies of our country. But let’s be clear. The John Brennans, Adam Schiffs, and the oligarchs in big tech who are trying to undermine our constitutionally protected rights and turn our country into a police state with KGB-style surveillance are also domestic enemies, and much more powerful and therefore dangerous than the mob that stormed our Capitol.
The video included a clip of Brennan’s remarks in a January 20 interview with MSNBC, where he said that the Biden team is “now moving in laser-like fashion” to uncover “what looks very similar to insurgency movements” that include libertarians:
We are now looking forward that the members of the Biden team who have been nominated or have been appointed are now moving in laser-like fashion to try to uncover as much as they can about what looks very similar to insurgency movements that we’ve seen overseas, where they germinate in different parts of the country and they gain strength and it brings together an unholy alliance frequently of religious extremists, authoritarians, fascists, bigots, racists, Nativists, even libertarians.
Gabbard concluded with an appeal to President Joe Biden:
Now President Biden, I call upon you and all members of Congress from both parties to denounce these efforts by the likes of Brennan and others to take away our civil liberties that are endowed to us by our creator and guaranteed in our constitution. If you don’t stand up to these people now, then our country will be in great peril.

#TEXIT: Texas Rep. Introduces Bill That Would Let Residents Vote on Seceding From the US
Texas State Representative Kyle Biedermann introduced a bill on Tuesday that would allow Texans to vote on seceding from the United States.
House Bill 1359, otherwise known as the Texas Independence Referendum Act, would let residents vote on if the Texas Legislature should create a joint interim committee to create a plan for independence for the state.
In a press release provided to The Gateway Pundit, the Texas Nationalist Movement explained that “the bill would give Texans an opportunity to head to the polls in November of 2021 and start the process of reasserting our status as an independent nation. If the people vote in favor, the bill provides for the establishment of a committee to begin working on a transitional plan which would address all of the issues related to decoupling from the federal government.”
Texas Nationalist Movement President Daniel Miller added that, “this bill is simply to put the question to the people of Texas. Even if legislators don’t personally support TEXIT, at a minimum, they should support your right to publicly debate and vote on the issue. Your representatives either believe that you are smart and responsible enough to make this decision, or they believe that they know what’s best for you regardless of what you think. There is no middle ground.“
“The people of Texas are sick and tired of living under 180,000 pages of federal laws administered by 2.5 million unelected bureaucrats,” said Miller. “At the end of the day, the best people to govern Texas are Texans, and this vote will give us that chance.”
Representative Biedermann said that the national government is failing Texans and they should be allowed to vote on leaving the union.
“This Act simply lets Texans vote through a referendum. This decision is too big to be monopolized solely by the power brokers in our Capitol. We need to let Texans’ voices be heard! Voters of all political persuasions in Texas can agree on one thing, Washington D.C. is and has been broken,” Biedermann said in a statement. “Our national government continuously fails our working families, seniors, taxpayers, veterans, and small business owners. For decades, our federal government has eroded the promise of America and our individual liberties. It is now time that the People of Texas are allowed the right to decide their own future. This is not a left or right political issue. This is simply about allowing Texans the right to vote.”

Giuliani election witness who testified at Michigan hearing says she's running for state house seat http://hill.cm/mp7bN13
https://twitter.com/thehill/status/1354196687548542987
A conservative activist in Michigan who Rudy Giuliani called to testify during a hearing on election fraud says she is running for a local state House seat.
Melissa Carone, an IT worker, testified before a Michigan House panel in early December that she had seen electoral fraud take place.
A Wayne County judge found her allegations “simply are not credible," The Washington Post reported.
In an interview with Deadline Detroit last week, Carone said she intends to run for the seat representing Michigan's 46th District, which covers much of Oakland County in the Detroit suburbs.
"My ultimate goal is to get our ballots hand-counted and clean out Lansing just like draining the swamp in D.C. because that’s what we need," she told the outlet.
"Everyone that knows me knows that I’m not a dangerous individual and that I’m totally against violence," she continued, when asked about the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
"What’s dangerous is somebody stealing the election," she said.
Former President Trump and his allies including Giuliani have falsely maintained that the election was "stolen" from the former Republican commander in chief.
President Biden won the state of Michigan in the 2020 election by close to 3 points over Trump in November. However, following Biden's electoral win, the Trump campaign mounted several legal battles in the state in an effort to overturn election results. The legal battles ultimately failed.
Carone became an internet sensation following her December testimony, as she was featured in a spoof of the hearing on Saturday Night Live.
Carone said this week she created a new campaign Facebook page "due to the countless restrictions I've obtained I'm nervous FB is going to perminately shut it down."
"Thank you for all the support, I will continue fighting for election reform, protecting our constitutional rights as Americans, and fully supporting Donald Trump," she wrote in a post on Jan. 24, four days after Trump had left office and President Biden had been sworn in. "We are under attack, we must come together and demand our freedom back!"

Biden admin to purchase 200 million more vaccine doses, send more doses to states: reports
The Biden administration said Tuesday it would increase the amount of coronavirus vaccines sent to states by about 16% for the next three weeks and will purchase enough additional doses to vaccinate the U.S. population with a two-dose regimen by the end of the summer, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times reported.
Both reported that a senior administration official said the purchases would increase the administration’s total vaccine order by 50%, raising it from 400 million to 600 million doses. The Times reported that it was during a Tuesday phone call with reporters to preview the announcement of these purchases.
The purchases will provide enough doses to vaccinate 300 million Americans in a two-dose regimen over the summer.
Despite the boost in doses sent to states beginning next week, supplies aren’t yet sufficient for what is needed, a senior administration official said.
“It’s going to take a number of months for us to be in a position for us to say to Americans it’s open season to sign up for vaccinations,” the official said, according to The Journal.
The administration will also begin giving states a three weeks’ advance notice of their estimated vaccine allocations, updated on a running basis, to assist them with their planning, according to The Journal. Governors had said allocations fluctuated under the Trump administration, complicating efforts to staff vaccination sites and manage appointments.
Members of President Joe Biden’s administration, including Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky and White House coronavirus coordinator Jeffrey Zients, briefed state governors on the updates on a call Tuesday afternoon, people familiar with the discussion told The Journal.

‘We did not do enough’: Acting Capitol Police chief apologizes for security failure
Yogananda D. Pittman said the department was outmanned and unprepared for the Jan. 6 siege on the Capitol.
The acting Capitol Police chief on Tuesday apologized to Congress for the security failures at the complex the day of the deadly Jan. 6 riots, acknowledging in an extraordinary statement that the department “failed to meet its own high standards as well as yours.”
During a closed-door briefing with the House Appropriations Committee, Yogananda D. Pittman, the acting head of the U.S. Capitol Police, said the department was outmanned and unprepared for the attack. She also admitted that a Capitol police board denied a request on Jan. 4 for additional support from the National Guard. It wasn’t until the building was overrun by a pro-Trump mob the panel relented, an hour after another plea was made.
“I am here to offer my sincerest apologies on behalf of the Department,” Pittman told members of the spending panel, which has jurisdiction over the agency’s funding.
Former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund as well as two board members resigned after the Capitol siege that left five people dead, including a Capitol police officer. The Senate and House Sergeant-at-Arms also stepped down from their posts in response to the security breaches.
Pittman’s testimony — which she delivered via video conference — was first reported by The New York Times.
Timothy P. Blodgett, the acting House sergeant-at-arms, also told lawmakers that it was “clear there was a failure of preparation.”
“Whether it was insufficient or conflicting intelligence, lacking ability to translate that intelligence into action, insufficient preparation or an inadequate ability to mobilize partner agencies for immediate assistance, a series of events, once thought unfathomable, unfolded allowing our most sacred halls to be breached,” he said.
The acting police chief, who described the siege as a “terrorist attack," informed lawmakers that the department knew the protests had the potential to turn violent and that the Capitol was a target.
“We also knew that some of these participants were intending to bring firearms and other weapons to the event,” Pittman told lawmakers. “We knew that there was a strong potential for violence and that Congress was the target. The Department prepared in order to meet these challenges, but we did not do enough.”
Pittman also said the agency was simply outnumbered, noting they had just 1,200 sworn personnel working on site — “no match for the tens of thousands of insurrectionists (many armed) attacking the Capitol and refusing to comply with lawful orders,” she added.
Now, Pittman says, many officers — who had been working around the clock to prepare for the inauguration — are suffering from PTSD, as well as battling coronavirus infections.
The briefing marks the first time that officials have testified to Congress on the security breaches at the Capitol, though lawmakers have been briefed on ongoing threats to members and the complex.
But lawmakers who attended Tuesday's closed-door session said they still have key unanswered questions.
"We knew at some level they knew, but the real question is, why was that intelligence not acted upon?" Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) said during a press call. "So now we know they had it, we know they apologized, but we want to know why it wasn’t acted upon.”
“This is just the beginning of the beginning," he added.
Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), the chair of the House Appropriations Committee, vowed that the panel will “continue to pursue answers to the questions that we did not cover today.”
"Today, we learned that the attack on the People’s House was preventable and that the government agencies tasked with keeping our country safe failed in their most basic responsibilities,” DeLauro said in a statement.
In the wake of the deadly riots, lawmakers have called for a 9/11-style commission to investigate the mob attack, which includes examining the security failures that led to the deadly siege.
“We will have an after-action review; there will be a commission,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi said last week.

POLL: Most GOP Voters Say Patriot Party Is a Good Idea – Would Immediately Put Liz Cheney’s Republican Party in 3rd Place
The movement for a new political party started after Republicans threw President Trump and his supporters under the bus following the 2020 election. This was the last straw for many Trump voters. The Republican Party has become so weak over the past several decades that Democrats were unworried as they stole a landslide election from President Trump and gave it to a mumbling dementia patient in a basement.
If President Trump approves of a Patriot Party it would immediately make the Republican Party a third place party.
Rasmussen reported:
While advisers to Donald Trump have denied this week that the former president is planning to organize a third party, most Republican voters think a separate Trump party would be a good idea.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds that 53% of GOP voters say it’s a good idea for Trump to start a third party. Thirty percent (30%) of Republicans say a third party would be a bad idea and 17% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

#CapitolRiots Speaking to reporters today, Acting US Attorney in DC Michael Sherwin + FBI Assistant Director Steven D’Antuono reinforced the importance of identifying the individual(s) behind these pipe bombs first reported within hours of the Capitol breach by @CBSNews
Both devices were viable, discovered at RNC 1245p + DNC 1315p. This is the critical window on 1/6 when rioters began pushing onto the Capitol Hill campus just before 1pm. Both devices were “rendered safe,” which means forensic analysis unlikely to reveal DNA evidence or prints of the bomb maker(s.) Knowing who/what group was behind the devices goes to pre-meditation, coordination, and possible larger conspiracy. FBI reward now 75k

Sen. Patrick Leahy, set to preside over Trump impeachment, taken to hospital
Sen. Patrick Leahy, the Vermont Democrat set to preside over the upcoming impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, was taken to a Washington hospital for evaluation Tuesday, his spokesman said. “This evening, Senator Leahy was in his Capitol office and was not feeling well,” said his spokesman David Carle in a written statement. “He was examined in the Capitol by the Attending Physician,” Carle said.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the Attending Physician recommended that he be taken to a local hospital for observation, where he is now, and where he is being evaluated.”
Leahy, 80, is the president pro tempore of the Senate, which makes him responsible for presiding over that chamber in the absence of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Leahy’s status in the Senate also puts him third in line in the order of presidential succession, after Harris and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Budweiser, Pepsi, Other Prominent Brands Pass On This Year's Superbowl
This year's Super Bowl was long destined to be a far cry from the usual spectacle as a result of the pandemic. Super Bowl LV, which will be held at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium, will see only 22,000 fans witness the game in person compared to a stadium capacity of 65,000.
The NFL saw regular season ratings decline as TV viewership dropped by about 10% this season compared to 2019, ending consecutive years of audience growth. The ratings decline has so far dragged into the playoffs as well, as the first eight playoff games all saw ratings declines compared to last season.
With the NFL's ratings declines likely to spill into Super Bowl LV, a handful of companies that are regularly big spenders on ads have decided to opt out of advertising for this year's game, albeit not entirely in some instances.
Pepsi announced earlier this month it wouldn't advertise its namesake brand, Pepsi, so it could focus on the halftime show it's sponsoring. Pepsi's vice president of marketing, Todd Kaplan, said the decision to skip ads in favor of the half time show was not driven by spending cuts.
Kaplan said other Super Bowl advertisers are "talking and fighting for 30 seconds" of people's attention while he cited data showing the halftime show is responsible for some of the most-watched moments during the telecast.
Pepsi, which spent more than $31 million advertising during last year's Super Bowl, will still run ads for its other brands such as Mountain Dew and Frito-Lay products.
Pepsi's competitor, The Coca-Cola Company, also followed suit and said it made the "difficult choice" to not run ads so it could "ensure we are investing in the right resources during these unprecedented times." Coca-Cola, which spent $10 million on Super Bowl ads last year, announced last month that it was laying off 17% of its global workforce.
This week Anheuser-Busch announced it wouldn't run an ad for its Budweiser brand for the first time since 1983. The company will instead donate what it would have spent on an ad—which is currently $5.5 million for 30 seconds compared to $5.6 million last year, to coronavirus vaccination awareness efforts.
The company will instead run four minutes worth of ads for its other brands that are becoming increasingly popular such as Bud Light, Bud Light Seltzer Lemonade, Michelob Ultra and Michelob Ultra Organic Seltzer.
Beyond the ratings decline, some believe advertisers just don't see the value in running ads this year given the overall mood among people.
"I think the advertisers are correctly picking up on this being a riskier year for the Super Bowl," Villanova University marketing professor Charles Taylor said. "With COVID and economic uncertainty, people aren't necessarily in the best mood to begin with. There's a risk associated with messages that are potentially too light. … At the same time, there's risk associated with doing anything too somber."
As more well-known brands drop out of advertising for the big game, newcomers such as Triller, Fiverr, DoorDash, Mercari and Huggies are all making their Super Bowl ad debuts.
With everything from ratings, the economy and the pandemic weighing on the Super Bowl, some advertisers are reevaluating the cost of spending millions on a Super Bowl ad while others are embracing the opportunity.

Lt. Gen. Charles Flynn slated to command US Army Pacific, and 14 other promotions
Fifteen general officer assignments were announced by the Army chief of staff Monday, including the ascension of Lt. Gen. Charles A. Flynn to command U.S. Army Pacific out of Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
Flynn, who currently serves as deputy chief of staff for Army operations, plans and training at the Pentagon, was key in crafting a new Army force generation model that was introduced this fall.
The new model is designed to regionally align Army units in roughly one year, Flynn previously told Army Times, giving soldiers expertise in the parts of the world to which they would deploy during an actual conflict and allowing them to stockpile the right equipment to win those clashes.
That type of preparation will help Flynn as he takes control of U.S. Army Pacific, a region where the Pentagon’s attention has increasingly shifted to confront a rising China.
Of note, Flynn is the younger brother of former Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who served as Trump’s first national security adviser before resigning within one month for lying about his contacts with Russian officials. Michael Flynn has remained a controversial public figure due to his support for the QAnon conspiracy and for proposing President Donald Trump impose martial law and deploy the military to re-run the 2020 election.
The familial ties drew scrutiny last week when the Army falsely denied that Charles Flynn was present during a phone call between the Pentagon and D.C. officials as the Jan. 6 Capitol riot unfolded, according to the Washington Post. The Army ultimately confirmed to the Post that Flynn participated in the phone call, during which the Capitol Police pleaded for National Guard troops to assist in securing Capitol grounds.
There’s no indication Flynn shares his brother’s extreme views, and Flynn’s own career trajectory appears uninhibited by the relationship. His nomination for a fourth star was sent to the U.S. Senate in November and confirmed by a voice vote on Dec. 20.
Fourteen other general officers’ assignments were announced along with Flynn’s Monday.

McEnany to join Fox News, financial disclosure report shows
Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany has an agreement in place to join Fox News this month, according to financial disclosure documents published Tuesday.
McEnany listed an "employment agreement with Fox News, starting work in January" on her termination report upon leaving the government. The report was obtained and published by watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
The document does not specify what McEnany's role will be. Neither McEnany nor a Fox News spokesperson responded to requests for comment.
The former press secretary's new job marks the latest instance of a Trump administration official joining the network favored by conservatives, or vice versa.
One of McEnany's predecessors, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, took a role as a Fox contributor after leaving the White House in 2019. Senior Trump adviser Hope Hicks took a job at Fox Corporation upon leaving the White House in 2018, only to return to working for Trump later in his term.
Trump had also hired Bill Shine from Fox News to work as White House communications director ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. Former Trump administration officials John Bolton , Scott Atlas and others made frequent appearances on the network before joining the government.
McEnany previously worked as a contributor at CNN and as a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee before taking the press secretary job in the spring of 2020.
She was a fierce and unflinching advocate of the president in her taxpayer funded-role, defending him from the podium through his missteps in the coronavirus pandemic response, his forceful removal of peaceful protesters from Lafayette Square for a photo op and his efforts to sow doubt about the outcome of the 2020 election.
McEnany made frequent appearances on Fox News over the last two years, including several on prime-time opinion programming where she pushed unsubstantiated claims about widespread election fraud.
Trump himself had been at odds with Fox in the weeks before and after the election, regularly complaining that the outlet was not being sufficiently supportive of him.

MIT Faculty Argues ‘Academic Freedom’ in Defense of Professor Charged With Ties to China
Liberal college elites are standing by an accused spy
Despite dire warnings of the dangers China poses to the United States, liberal college elites are standing by an accused spy. Massachusetts Institute of Technology fellow professor Gang Chen was arrested and charged “with grant fraud last week after allegedly failing to disclose his work for Communist China to the U.S. Department of Energy” reports Breitbart.
Members of MIT’s faculty are standing in solidarity behind Chen. A letter to the President of MIT signed by over 100 faculty members declared DOJ charges against Chen are “a complaint against all of us, and an affront to any citizen who values science and the scientific enterprise…we are all Gang Chen.”
“As colleagues and friends of MIT Professor Gang Chen we share our dismay and pain over his recent arrest. We all know Gang as a truly beloved teacher, scholar, scientist, mentor, colleague, and world leading academic” the letter stated.
In the letter, the staff expresses the belief that “the complaint against Gang vilifies what would be considered normal academic and research activities, including promoting MIT’s global mission.” They also add they do not believe the complaint is about “protecting intellectual property” stating, “at best, it represents a deep misunderstanding of how research is conducted or funded at a place like MIT.”
“We recognize and respect that the United States government has an interest in keeping any country from stealing intellectual property…But we are baffled by many elements of the official complaint against Chen” the letter claims. Faculty urged “that MIT assume leadership in transforming this difficult time to a learning moment, in which the allegations against Gang Chen are discussed in the context of defending academic freedom in this country.”
The letter concluded, “In many respects the defense of Gang Chen is the defense of scientific enterprise that we all hold dear…We are all Gang Chen.”

Apollo CEO Leon Black to Step Down Following Review of Jeffrey Epstein Ties
Independent probe finds Black wasn’t involved in disgraced financier’s criminal activities; Marc Rowan to take over top job by July 31
Leon Black plans to step down as chief executive of Apollo Global Management Inc. APO 7.19% after an independent review revealed larger-than-expected payments to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein that it nevertheless deemed justified.
The monthslong review by Dechert LLP found no evidence that Mr. Black was involved in the criminal activities of the late Epstein, who was indicted in 2019 on federal sex-trafficking charges involving underage girls, according to the law firm’s report, which was disclosed in a securities filing Monday.
In its report, Dechert found the fees that the billionaire had paid Epstein were for legitimate advice on trust- and estate-tax planning that proved to be of significant value to Mr. Black and his family. Mr. Black paid Epstein a total of $148 million, plus a $10 million donation to his charity—far more than was previously known.
Mr. Black wrote in a letter to Apollo’s fund investors that he would cede the role of CEO to co-founder Marc Rowan on or before his 70th birthday on July 31 while retaining the role of chairman. In the letter, which was also disclosed in the securities filing, Mr. Black detailed other governance changes he is recommending to the board, including the appointment of more independent directors and the elimination of Apollo’s dual-class share structure.
The Wall Street Journal had earlier reported on the contents of the report and letter.
Mr. Black also pledged to donate $200 million of his family’s money to women’s initiatives.
