Fourteen dollars. For one ice cream cone. I had to look at the screen twice because I thought maybe I accidentally bought stock in the company instead of a scoop. Fourteen dollars for something that’s going to melt in five minutes. What are we doing as a society?

It’s not even like this is some Michelin star dessert with gold flakes and imported air from Italy. It’s ice cream. Cold sugar in a cone. Yet somehow I walked out feeling like I just signed a car lease. Everything is overpriced now and nobody bats an eye. You just tap your card, hear the little beep, and watch your bank account slowly give up on life.

They’ve managed to normalize prices that make zero sense. The screen flashes $14 and everyone behind you just nods like that’s totally reasonable. I miss when ice cream was something kids could afford with change they found in the couch. Now it’s an adult luxury you have to budget for like rent.

And of course the screen still asks if I want to leave a 25% tip. A tip. For someone who handed me a cone. That’s another $3.50 just to make me feel bad about saying no. By the time you’re done tipping and paying tax, that one ice cream costs $18. For one person. It’s insanity.

We’ve hit the point where going out for dessert feels like a down payment. And nobody questions it. We just smile and pretend it’s normal because everything is expensive now. It’s like they’re testing how far they can push us before someone snaps.

I don’t care how good it tastes. Nothing frozen and served in a cone should cost fourteen dollars.
