Although this does post a conundrum-are they willing to establish another "have" economic class?-as many have bought for a long time and they are not all good people.

I think they key to it's price discovery is IF (and that is a BIG IF) they make the system cover it's decades long paper-short positions. If the COMEX (via CFTC) makes them close it all out the price is pretty much infinite based on the loads of paper contracts used to suppress it's price over the last 150 or so years.

Feinstein to step down as top Democrat on Judiciary Committee

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.) announced Monday she is stepping down as the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee after groups on the left such as NARAL Pro-Choice America criticized her handling of Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing this fall. Feinstein said she needs to focus on “two existential threats” facing California: wildfire and drought. “After serving as the lead Democrat on the Judiciary Committee for four years, I will not seek the chairmanship or ranking member position in the next Congress,” she said in a statement. Feinstein came under scathing criticism after she hugged Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) at the end of Barrett’s confirmation hearing and praised his handling of it. The collegial gesture was out of step with the Democrats' messaging, which sought to portray the Republicans' expedited schedule for placing Barrett on the high court before the election as an unfair circumvention of voters after the GOP blocked Judge Merrick Garland’s nomination to the Supreme Court during the 2016 presidential election. Feinstein sparked outrage on the left after she thanked Graham for “one of the best set of hearings that I’ve participated in” and praised her GOP colleague for “fairness” and “the opportunity of going back and forth.”

Two groups, NARAL Pro-Choice America and Demand Justice, both of which opposed Barrett’s nomination, immediately called on Feinstein to step down. NARAL Pro-Choice America’s Ilyse Hogue said in October that Feinstein failed to make clear that Barrett’s confirmation process was “unprecedented, shameful and wrong.” Brian Fallon, the executive director of Demand Justice, said Monday that Feinstein’s resignation as the Democratic leader of the Judiciary panel was “a necessary step.” “This was a necessary step if Democrats are ever going to meaningfully confront the damage Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell have done to the federal judiciary,” Fallon said. “Going forward, Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee must be led by someone who will not wishfully cling to a bygone era of civility and decorum that Republicans abandoned long ago,” he added. “The next top Democrat on the committee must be someone who is willing to fight for President-elect Biden’s nominees no matter what, and who will pursue bold action to restore balance to our courts.” Feinstein’s decision sets up a potential contest between Sens. New Mexico governor shuts down grocery stores for two weeks

A dozen grocery stores around the state have been forced to close for two weeks because of a public health order issued by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham at a time when the state’s residents are suffering from record high unemployment and food insecurity, critics say.

The order requires businesses with four or more rapid responses of COVID-19 cases reported within in a 14-day period to close for two weeks.

More than 25 essential businesses were shut down as of Monday afternoon, including a number of grocery stores and major retailers.

The closures include two Walmarts in Albuquerque and one in Santa Fe, an Albertson’s in Roswell, a Smiths Food & Drug Center in Albuquerque and New Mexico Food Distribution Center in Albuquerque.

The state’s environment department has published a complete list of businesses that have been closed due to employees testing positive for COVID-19, as well as a watch list, and FAQ about the watch list.

Access to purchase food is now limited because of another order issued by the governor requiring capacity limitations at all stores. New Mexicans are now waiting outside, standing in line for up to two hours, local news reports indicate, which the governor’s office has disputed….

De Blasio Unleashes 'COVID Checkpoints' To Catch & Fine NYC Travelers Who Violate Holiday Quarantine

As millions of Americans defy the CDC's warning not to travel for the holiday season, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio has once again dispatched police to key traffic chokepoints where his quarantine rules will be strictly enforced.

New York City Sheriff Joseph Fucito said the sheriff's office (a separate entity from the NYPD) will conduct spot checks when out-of-state buses drop riders off at the curb, and will also check cars will out of state and New York licenses plates. Test-and-trace teams will also be on the ground to help direct people to testing sites while providing "education" about quarantine.

New York's statewide 14-day holiday quarantine mandates that travelers quarantine, or take a test showing they're negative. Violations of self-quarantine will be enforced, and may carry fines of $1,000 to $2,000, the mayor's office has said.

Around the US, few jurisdictions have actually enforced quarantine and social distancing rules, though people have been killed in fights spurred by mandatory mask requirements. Some governors, including Kristi Noem in South Dakota, have refused to make wearing masks and other social distancing measures mandatory.

But most governors who have imposed mandatory mask orders and other measures typically haven't enforced those measures by doling out fines, unlike authorities in Europe.

According to anecdotal reports, travels through NYC's airports have had to complete contact tracing forms for weeks now. The city will continue to enforce those measures at both of the city's airports, as well as Grand Central and Penn Station, as well as the Port Authority bus terminal.

Lines at NYC testing centers reached record numbers over the weekend, a sign that many New Yorkers still planned to travel, and were hoping to get tested before leaving. This is irritating many self-appointed COVID travel referees…

Kiwi Soars After New Zealand Central Bank Asked To Add Home Prices To Monetary Policy

The New Zealand dollar soared overnight, reaching a two year high, bid up by shocked FX traders who learned that Finance Minister Grant Robertson sent a letter to the central bank expressing concerns over how low rates have stoked home prices.

In a stunning development, Robertson asked the Reserve Bank of New Zealand to add home prices to its monetary policy remit, a proposal which would crash any prospects for further rate cuts or additional bond-buying programs.

Remarkably, just two weeks ago traders had been pricing in over a 50% chance of a rate hike implying negative rates by the end of 2021; however then the central bank projected a more upbeat view of the economic recovery and added a lending program that led traders to price out the chance for negative rates. Following the Robertson letter, the odds of a rate cut tumbled to less than 25%.

"Today’s announcement just reinforces the notion that negative rates are less likely in New Zealand,” said Prashant Newnaha, senior rates strategist at TD Securities in Singapore. “The economy has held up remarkably well."

In kneejerk response, the kiwi surged as much as 1.1%, briefly topping 70 U.S. cents, the highest level since June 2018. The currency has risen almost 6% this quarter, leading gains among the Group-of-10 peers against the dollar.

In short, at least one central bank is starting to realize that keeping rates lower for ever may not work in an economy where the housing market is already overheating. We wonder how far US home prices will rise before Powell (and Brainard after) decide that it's time to do similar damage control in the US…

JOE BIDEN did not win 77 million votes and the election. Every sane American knows this. He did not beat Obama’s record and he did not beat President Trump’s historic record. Michigan County Board Approves Resolution to Impeach Gov. Whitmer

A county in northern Michigan announced its support of impeaching Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Friday.

Members of the Kalkaska County, Michigan Board of Commissioners voted 4-2 to introduce a resolution that would call for the impeachment of Whitmer. It will be sent to the Michigan Legislature for consideration.

Many accuse Whitmer of abuse of power and unconstitutional actions amid the COVID-19 pandemic and have expressed outrage at actions taken to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Kalkaska County Commissioner David Comai said that Whitmer signed “unconstitutional executive orders” that were “the primary cause of the economic crisis Kalkaska County is experiencing,” and are grounds for impeachment, according to reports from WPBN/WGTU.

Michigan State Rep. Matt Maddock claimed that Whitmer had “Ignored court orders. Violated our Constitutional rights. Completely ignored due process and the legislature. Weaponized contract tracing databases to aid democrat campaigns. Caused the unnecessary death of thousands of our vulnerable elderly who died alone and scared in nursing homes,” when listing the reasons he believed she should be impeached.

Maddock, one of Michigan’s most conservative and outspoken lawmakers, has been critical of Whitmer’s actions during the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement posted earlier to Twitter, he wrote, “Michiganders have been beaten down for too long. Restaurants losing dine-in customers watching their life’s work circle the drains. Thank you to my fellow legislators who are calling for impeachment hearings of @GovWhitmer #FreeMichigan #ImpeachWhitmer #MILEG @realDonaldTrump.”

Michigan Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield, a Republican, criticized the impeachment resolution in a Wednesday statement.

“We’re not the party that impeaches someone because we’re upset with policies that they’ve enacted,” Chatfield said. “I thought it was shameful what the Democrats did to President Trump last year and I would assume that any attempt by Republicans right now, with the current set of facts that we have to impeach the governor, would be on the same level.”

A petition calling for Whitmer’s impeachment on Change.org has received over 7,800 signatures as of Monday. The petition states that Whitmer’s refusal to allow doctors to use chloroquine as a coronavirus treatment made Whitmer “more than incompetent, she is deadly and who knows how many lives have been lost due to her ignorance.”

Under the new restrictions, Michigan residents are required to work from home, if possible, all college and high-school classes are to be conducted remotely, indoor dining is prohibited in bars and restaurants while movie theaters, casinos and stadiums remained closed. The restrictions are expected to remain in place until December 8.

Georgia Begins Second Recount As Kemp, Trump Campaign Push For Signature Verification

Georgia still refuses to verify the signatures despite Governor Brian Kemp's call for the Secretary of State to comply

On Tuesday the state of Georgia began its second recount of the November 3 election results, days after Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, a Republican, identified several examples of election irregularities and gave his blessing for the Trump campaign to request signature verification on ballots, which the campaign believes will uncover vast mail-in voter fraud.

The campaign originally announced its intent to begin a second recount on Saturday in a statement declaring “Today, the Trump campaign filed a petition for recount in Georgia,” and the campaign is “focused on ensuring that every aspect of Georgia State Law and the U.S. Constitution are followed so that every legal vote is counted.”

After the first audit of the Georgia results garnered an additional 1,000 votes for President Trump, the campaign began calling for a full recount including signature verification of mail-in votes. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and the mainstream media, have so far dismissed this, despite the Georgia governor advocating signature verification on November 20.

“Given the record number of absentee ballots and narrow margin in the November 3 election for president in Georgia, I join many in backing a hand recount, and urging a thorough investigation into any voting irregularities,” said Kemp.

Ducey signs ‘electronic adjudication’ bill to speed ballot counting

The first new law of 2020 will allow Maricopa County to more quickly resolve errors in the 2020 election.

Gov. Doug Ducey on Monday signed Senate Bill 1135, which allows county elections officials to use a process called “electronic adjudication” to identify ballots that can’t be read by standard vote-counting machines.

The measure easily cleared the legislature, passing both the House of Representatives and Senate unanimously in late January.

Because it contains an emergency clause, it goes into effect immediately.

The legislation was needed so that Maricopa County can use its new electronic adjudication machines.

Prior to SB1135, if a ballot couldn’t be fully read by the vote-counting machines – often times because a single vote mark was smudged – elections officials were required by state law to fully duplicate that ballot. In statewide elections, that means a new ballot including every federal, statewide, local and judicial race would have to be meticulously copied to a new ballot, which was then re-scanned by the tabulation equipment.

But by using electronic adjudication machines, the error on a ballot could be singled out. With the new provisions that Ducey signed into law, Maricopa County can now skip duplicating the full ballot and instead input the voter’s choice on the question that caused the error – if it’s clear how the voter intended to vote.

In December, Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Gates told KJZZ that the new machines would cut the time of resolving errors from 12 minutes per ballot to less than 1 minute per ballot.

Because the bill goes into effect immediately, it will allow Maricopa County to use the new machines for the March 17 presidential preference election.

The Army plans to compensate for the drawdown of NATO forces in Afghanistan with computerized surveillance technology that will boost perimeter security and for small units in remote outposts, according to an article in the latest issue of National Defense magazine.

Bagram Air Field, Camp Salerno and other military bases in Afghanistan soon will receivesoftware that combines data from many sensors and then displays it on a single computer screen— which soldiers have nicknamed the Kraken, Col. Peter Newell, director of the Army’s Rapid Equipping Force, told the magazine.

Deployed forces have dozens of surveillance sensors – overhead and ground based – that help detect incoming rounds, but each system requires a separate computer system and a dedicated operator to watch each terminal. Kraken consolidates them into a single screen, said Col. Brett Barraclough, who oversees the integrated base defense program.

The Kraken software has been in the works for five years. “And now we’re deploying it,” Barraclough said. Eight kits are being shipped. “Bagram is going to be completely integrated within the next year,” he added.
