I think when it comes to companies & understanding how it works, people should keep in mind who's working on what particular games as well as the development history of each title. As Sonic 06 showed, ambitious titles can be fucked over heavily by a large number of factors.

I think the ambitious was fucked over due to lack of focus and direction. The idea wanted to be taking seriously, both in and out of the game's world, but in the end, did 06 truely reflect on Sonic's roots like say, Mario Odessy did? Although Unleashed doesn't really reflect the Genesis era much at all (outside of Sonic's characterization in areas) but it does rememince certain elements of CD and 2 (visuals and high speed focused gameplay).

I think the issue is truely knowing when to not go "troo far" and use what you can use inside of a common mold. Case in point, Utopia and Islands do that Adventure 2 and Heroes didn't. Both take elements from Sonic's roots, but the fan games focus moreso on those roots while the official titles don't capitalize on them and only throw more fluff on top of it like spectacle and story telling.

I really can't blame Sonic Team for not having much focus or direction with 06, considering how much shit was going on during the games development. From the team being split twice (once to make Secret Rings & again when Naka left SEGA while taking part of 06's team with him), to the game having a ton of ideas they had no chance of implementing in time. A couple of things from the reboot R&C game kinda makes me think of Forces tbh… It almost feels as if they ripped off elements from it for Forces. Or maybe it's just a coincidence.

Well what's interesting is how R&C started in 2002, 1 year after Sonic Adventure 2, which introduces Rail Grinding as a mechanic. Which R&C uses too, thought the idea isn't really all that new, but in platformers it's not common before Sonic did it.

This would be more annoying than concerning. The important thing is the emulator, it's the only thing that can make Unleashed be playable on PC. Getting the game will always be an easier task.

I hated them when the designs were revealed and I still hate them today. Tails looks okay. Amy looks all right but her outfit always reminds me of the pink girl from Lazytown. Sonic looks bad. Knuckles looks horrible. It's been years and I still can't get used to them.

It's because they were using the base/alpha designs for referecnes which had SOnic and co look like some abstactive mix between literal hedgehog and disney esque elements that just name off like a Lilo and Stitch ripoff. So SEGA came in and told them to fix their shit, and so Sonic Team took some of their shit and added Modern cast on top.

And likely thanks to that outburst in disapproval, they likely took it too far and nitpicked the fuck out of Big Red Button's progress to the point the game shat itself. Basically it's really SEGA's fault for saying "give them freedom" and then got triggerd they gave them something they wasn't looking for.
