I also want to ask, why do people think "fixing" 06 would fix the series rep? If removing the werehog "makes Unleashed not Unleashed anymore" You cannot "remove Sonic x Elise romance, the original encounter with Silver despite Generations remaking it for a non broken fight, and have to work out a way to make the story not treat everyone like dipshits like they did the first time, which would change the narration of the story in a way that would, ultimately, make Mephiles even more stupid for not just killing Sonic sooner than he did otherwise.
I think based on what people see Sonic as today, Modern as a joke and Classic as a rememience of the "good times", it would only make those that grew up with Modern Sonic happy, not all of the fanbase who never cared about that era of Sonic. It'd just make Modern feel "redeemed" but the damage ain't being redone, life doesn't work like that.
Modern Sonic's image wouldn't be a joke well after 06 if they CONSTANTLY made good games, not remake crap ones into better ones.

No one is saying that so far, it's just the idea would be amazing if they did(for me at least).

>make 06 be called SA3
So wait, 06 is SA3 wasn't just a joke by others.

Sonic 06.
Unleashed still has the medals issue, along with the shitty HUB world side quests. At least the Sonic 06 quests had actual things to do other than "walk over here and talk to this person".
>>14705
From what I understand, Sonic 06 never had Chao content.
>>14706
Nobody thinks fixing 06 would fix the series rep. It's about righting the wrongs of the past. It was a disappointing mess that had all the promises of something fantastic, and it deserves another shot. I feel the same way about games like Daikatana.

I feel like unlike Sonic 4, that game was trying to be SA1 but for the New Generation. It tried to take everything they've learned from SA1 to ShTH, and mash them into one game. Multiple playable characters, most with unique experinces not as defined as just "Sonic with x differerent move like the classic games", was going to have something to do with Chao that you go back to levels to get stuff for them like in SA1/2, and carried over some plot points that's tied to SA2/ShTH, which besides what Team Dark was doing in Heroes, connects them to those games as well. I really think 06 was going to be that and I don't think just calling it the first Sonic game in name was really the original plan. It might have been, but it would have been based on the foundation that the Adventure era brought. There's no team gameplay like Heroes, and Shadow for the most part, designed itself around SA2's narrative and direction for Shadow's side of the story.
Unlike Sonic 4 where all of the elements felt superficial, like how the plot around it clashed with what time did Adventure 1 take place, and how before that point, was never mentioned within the Adventure era, especially how Metal Sonic was still on Little Planet, but was last seen in a bio tube in the Egg Carrier in SA1.

I think you got it confused, I meant Sonic 4 being a evolution of the classic games, which in fact, Mania actually was what Sonic 4 should have been. Cuz no matter what both games reused old level ideas, but the latter actually plays and expands on the original formula.

I thought it was Knuckles but idk… Maybe Tikal? Or Shade?

Yup. Kinda helped that Mania was made with the idea of "a mainline Sonic game that was actually on the Saturn."
Makes me wonder what we'd see in the next Mania game if we get one

I wouldn't be able to play either because I don't own consoles, but I'd choose Unleashed because that sounds amazing and at least it'll be emulatable at some point because >nintendo. Having said that, I get the feeling it wouldn't run very well on a Switch.

So I'm hearing IDW is once again facing delays for this month's issue and that it's been postponed for May 8th. Jesus Christ every month a new delay, what's going on. This isn't very reassuring for the future of the series. At least the annual is out on May 1st apparently.

Some kind of collection would be nice. Say, an Adventure collection with SA, SA2, Heroes, and Shadow. Or a collection of every pre-Adventure game. Something like that. With good menus. Can't forget those.

A collection featuring the remastered versions of Sonic 1, 2 and CD plus a new one for 3&K, and Mania Plus.
Add newly remastered CD-quality music for the Genesis games with maybe even some animated cinematics, add the cut R2 and Final Fever levels for CD, red rings that unlock concept art and shit, using Sonic 3 Complete as a base, in-game achievements, time trials and leaderboards. Throw in the Game Gear games as a bonus, along with an emulator housing a selection of premium community romhacks. (that don't contain copyrighted shit obviously)
I want it. I want it so bad.

Thinking about it, they probably just see it as content they can easily pull from Smash Wii U into Smash Ultimate.
Kinda wish we got Knuckles or Tails as actual fighters, but I guess they don't want too many characters from one third-party series in.

They added two characters from a single series in Ultimate, from a third-party that already had a character in a previous Smash game.

I blame SEGA really. Sonic really only deserved to be in thanks to his 90s era quality and Adventure era hype. Every other game makes Sonic questionable as a rep otherwise imo. He isn't even that popular in Japan, and Joker is legit likely more popular in Japan than Sonic is.

Gee, I don't know. It's not like there were already two different fighting games in the series with almost completely different rosters, already. It's a shame there's no basis for a Sonic fighting game.

Look speaking realistically, I doubt SEGA would incorporate characters like Honey, Bean or Bark in another Sonic fighting game, since they're "classic characters."
They could build off of Battle's roster, but even then, I could see characters like Emerl & Gamma getting left out.

Counting Metal and Eggman, Heroes, alone, gives us 11 characters. Then we have characters like Silver, Blaze, Big, and, if desperate, the deadly six. They could even have a Buddy representative. And, given this is SEGA, they'd probably hire some other developer to make it, and those devs would probably be more willing to bring in characters or ideas from games SEGA hardly touches, anymore.

I can also see them throwing in Infinite given his status as a main villain in Forces, as well.
But he'd probably work better as a boss fight, as opposed to a playable character.
