How can I live in a cyberpunk lifestyle today? I mean, we still don't have body implanted tech and flying cars (lol), but I'm sure we can still manage to live like this as close as possible with the available technology today.

Besides the skills (check >>47182) and clothing (check >>46845) required for this lifestyle, what would you include in this package?

I would include: reducing the amount of data that the organizations and the government has on you, deleting accounts that has any kind of personal info about you; having a good VPN service would be good too, but I'm not sure about it, maybe a private VPN; customizing your phone to keep it simple and yet useful; hoarding a lot of data (just in case).

Also, I was thinking about some form of minimalism, but I'm not entirely sure how it'd be.

I've been told that the sysadmin job is the best one to be closer to the cyberpunk world, but so is being a NEET. You could get brouzouf from doing some freelance jobs on the internet, just enough to pay your bills and keep yourself fed. Owning a cheap small apartament on the center of the city would help too.

And that's everything I've came up so far. Everything related is welcome.

Using a VPN is just transferring your trust from your ISP to a separate, potentially more shady company. No guarantees there.

So definitely /cyber/ indeed.

Data hoarding is definitely a /cyber/ thing to do. Sure enough, there's a thread for that >>25842

Read about free software, if you haven't already. Having freedom while using your computer is essential in the cyber world.

https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/philosophy.html

https://www.fsf.org/

Get redpilled about the pathetic state of today's hardware.

https://www.fsf.org/blogs/sysadmin/the-management-engine-an-attack-on-computer-users-freedom

Spend your hardly earned brouzouf on libre hardware.

https://www.crowdsupply.com/eoma68/micro-desktop

https://www.crowdsupply.com/libre-risc-v/m-class

3D printing is a 水 thing, but there is only one company producing libre 3D printers.

If I werent aware of nonfree software I would advice you buing VR goggles, but they're all botnet.

You can also work on cyber technologies like brain-computer interfaces, improving VR, bionics, extending human lifetime. Hopefully, I'll be working on one of these soon.

Cyberpunk reality is so deep, there are a lot of things to do, even opening a cyber club is cyber. Simple things like this can make the world cyber.

In general,

A) customizing things or hacking them to functionally suit your needs better is a guiding rule of cyber_

>The street finds its own uses for things.

That's why I'd count vi/emacs, tiling window managers, and chording keyboards (Plover etc.) as cyber_; they can make you functionally more effective if you are experienced.

B) independence is the other guiding rule - data hoarding, self def., open source, first aid knowledge, all increase your resilience to What-if scenarias.

What if I can't use internet? Data hoarding, Ham radio, (see https://www.wired.com/2009/04/fleetcom/ for a less-than legal example)

What if police aren't near? self def.

What if I'm not near a doc/hospital? first aid, medicine in general, learn what you can

What if abandonware? opensource, reverse engineering

>>55556

Also, if you have the brouzouf, and need something powerful

https://wiki.raptorcs.com/wiki/Blackbird

https://wiki.raptorcs.com/wiki/Talos_II

open hardware is really rare though; even the libreboot Thinkpads that everyone extols, still use proprietary EC firmware, and need proprietary BIOS to update it. see:

https://libreboot.org/faq.html#ec-embedded-controller-firmware

https://libreboot.org/docs/hardware/#ec-update-on-i945-x60-t60-and-gm45-x200-t400-t500-r400-w500

>It is recommended that you update to the latest EC firmware version.

>this can only be done when you are using Lenovo BIOS. How to update the EC firmware while running libreboot is unknown.

↑ true irony right here

Cybe lifestyles huh.

Cyberpunk is a survival trait. Cyberpunk is a thurst for freedom to operate and freedom to access anything at any time. Cyberpunk is that feeling you get when you learn something new and useful. Cyberpunk is that paranoia you feel about the government watching you. Cyberpunk knows no laws and pays heed to no masters.

Cyberpunk is poor so we make do. Cyberpunk is alone because we've been fucked over to many times. Cyberpunk is paranoia so we disconnect from the systems which seemingly all people use to connect, isolating us more.

All I see listied here are things man. Hardware, software, services… fucking THINGS. Like everyone forgot the topic was lifestyle and post things that have nothing to do with how life is lived, that's sad.

I think first their needs to be is an understanding of WHAT cyberpunk is before we start talking about styles (fuck that) skills (um, any and all?) And lifestyles.

But I'm not all doom and gloom kids, because I'm going get you right, right now. A lifestyle can be a choice but that would make you a poser. Lifestyle are, by and large, due to necessity. And I would say it's safe to say most people are here are already living a cybe lifestyle by degrees… And this is due to necessity, this is not a bad thing.

If you can identify with the top of this post here then welcome to the dystopian future i live every day. Don't? Just into computers and learning and the mad freedomz? Well that's cybe too. Like rainy dark side streets dimmly light by neon, shit who doesn't, very shway.

But all these things man, this other stuff in this thread had nothing to do with life and how it's lived. Good opsec? Ok. schway tools for cyberpunks? Yeah sure, if you got the credits. How to log in tomorrow and feel cyberpunk because you have all this stuff some anons told you would be cybe? Go back to reddit.

>everyone forgot the topic was lifestyle and post things that have nothing to do with how life is lived

lIterally the previous post, talks about things, yes, but in context of the twin goals of cyber;

1. bE efficient (customize things, modify your life, etc. with an eye for functionality)

2. bE independent

iF that's not a lifestyle, i Don't know what is.

rEpeating those same two points over and over again with different phrasing gets boring quick; that's why people in-thread are giving examples of specific skills, or 水 tek; rather than a wall-o-text manifesto

Gets boring quick or is it the quick realization that, oh no, these lofty, entangable modes of thought and, gasp, lifestyles requires commitment on levels they are not willing or able to make?

And I believe learning and skills go hand and hand which I also list in what you catagroize as a wall of text.

Fix your e key, it seems to be stuck on jackass mode. Or does your pinky stick up like that as you sip your tea?

I had given up on ever truly OWNING a system. I thought there would always be proprietary bullshit somewhere (like the illusion of freedom shazbots get from libreboot, it doesn't change IME and shit like that).

Hackaday is pretty cyberpunk. A lot of the guys on there are basically modern-day renaissance men, building anything from robots to make coffee all the way through to nuclear power plants (some out of fucking lego).

This guy is /cyb/ as fuck:

https://ludens.cl/paradise/turbine/turbine.html

He lives out in the middle of nowhere in Chile, his internet connection is handled essentially by a mobile phone which struggles to download emails greater than 200KB in size, and yet he basically manufactured himself a hydro powerplant.

This is him describing part of the process when *building* his own transformer:

>The varnish I used is intended for oven-drying at 140 to 150 degrees Celsius. I don't have an oven large enough to fit this coil, so I heated it by applying roughly 20A of direct current to the high voltage winding. I monitored the temperature by measuring the resistance change of the wire.

There is No established "cyberpunk" lifestyle. we have to build it collaboratively.

If I built a cyberpunk subculture, it would be an amalgamation of:

*cypherpunk

*privacy

*decentralization

*Guerilla Open Access Movement

*Open Source

*Hardware

+Cyber Asethic and slang

Privacy and Security are not the same. Google is an example of perfectly secure botnet , 2FA , Geolocation based rejection of logins, but will gladly read all of your emails to sell to third parties for marketing, and will gladly disclose to governments. Further, privacy has a lot of non-technical aspects - We enguage in all kinds of offline activities like Walking through stores, paying for things with debit cards, requesting quotes for insurance , paying property taxes etc. These things create data that is vacuumed up, aggregated and sold . So , I think that an offline privacy component is a pretty important piece of that a lot of tech minded people are missing.

the punk in cyberpunk seems to me to be about opting out of this kind of societal overreach , and building and using alternate solutions. I believe those solutions should probably be decentralized and open.

Some people might think the list above is too niche. A lot of people believe that cyberpunk is full of other roles like "fixer" etc. I think thats wrong for two reasons : (1) Cyberpunk doesn't exist , its a subculture yet to be invented and (2) Fixers etc, already exist and arn't particularly interesting. Selling Drugs etc isn't specially cyberpunk.

Sorry but it's nothing to do with cyberpunk at all.

Not pseudo-freedom corporates (or their propagandists) which promise you "freedom" or/and "security" in exchan for your information in any form include IPR on it or just information transfer through them.

Not "freedom" "for sales" corporates (or their propagandists) which promise you "freedom" or/and "security" for large almost of brouzouf which presumable you will get from another corporates but even better if from them.

It's all just a big scam.
