If you're looking for less drama and more wacky comedy try Miami Guns. There is some drama that's out of place but for the most part it's ridiculous comedy with some fan service and action. Less car chases and more guns appropriately enough.

Out of the handful of good anime that has come out this decade, you had to pick none of them.

Besides I'm not sure what other people think but when I personally say modern anime is shit I don't mean that it's completely dead like video games which haven't had something decent in about 6~ years after a long time stagnating.

Good animes still come out, but they're very few, they don't last very long, they all have computer animation and they don't come close to the classics in any characteristic. It's a time of decay, but anime is not finished yet, however it's an ember compared to the flames of old.

I really want to find more of these as well. Not so much Tolkien-type fantasy, but old fantasy anime that's more inspired by western fantasy. So far I've been able to find Legend of Lemnear and Mozaika. Haven't watched all of Mozaika yet but I have relatively high hopes for it since it comes from the same guy that did VOTOMS. Lemnear was pretty fun too, not the best animation for an OVA but it started my fascination with bikini armor and kept me entertained the whole way through. They're both definitely reminiscent of of the fantasy style you'd find in Heavy Metal/Moebius comics, a lot of that stuff can be found in 80s/90's anime it seems, and with good reason.

Watched episode 1 of Megazone 23.

Overall a very good anime, but it's a little rough around a few edges. There are moments of poor characterization which I feel were the story being rushed since they had to fit it in movie length, and in a few frames of the animation at some points they twist the faces too much and one eye ends up way higher up than the other which makes them look retarded.

I'll be posting a webm as soon as it's encoded, it'll probably look terrible since it's a 2 minute 39 seconds video.

The second episode of megazone 23 shits the bed.

Every character is reimagined such that they're unrecognizable, the art style is now more realistic and less anime while general animation quality drops (but is still great). It's like it is an entirely different anime with a plot where the start happens to be the ending of some random anime which by pure coincidence happens to have the same name.

I'm still going to watch it but what a disappointment.

What happened to anime like

Because all that shit you posted were mostly anomalies to what anime was being made at the time and was only really well-received overseas, on top of being overrated as fuck.

>Berserk

Had shitty low budget animation, Yes, even the original 98 show.

>Bebop

Was not remotely indicative of anime coming out in 1998, not to mention its popularity came from the west; in Japan it was only moderately successful.

>Full Metal Alchemist

Nigger that shit was watched and talked about to death, not to mention it was the exact kind of mass marketed manufactured shit that's always been a part of anime. FMA was just really, really popular and that gave it an endurance. It's not anime's fault people got burned out on two hundred plus episode TV shows, tons of manga, and dozens of game tie-ins.

>Gundam

nigger they're still making Gundams

>Ninja Scrolls

Ninja Scroll was not remotely popular in Japan at all. It's just notable because Manga Video promoted the hell out of it because it had blood and tits. It's really not one of Kawajiri's better works outside a handful of action scenes.

<Anime also falls into a vortex of trends

>Tomino: I think the reason why anime nowadays lacks excitement so bad is because of daddies’ marketing logic: trying to create according to current trends, that’s the vortex they’re falling into.

>Anno: On the other hand I think anime nowadays has gone too far into its own specialization, to the point where it’ll soon collapse.

90s anime was a slave to trends just ike it was now, the 80s, the 00s, etc.

>There's a few jewels from the 2000's, after that we're in dogshitville.

30 minutes in, it just gets worse.

It's really not the same anime. It became a generic action anime and it's about a random biker gang and the characters who share names have no relation to their previous rendition. I'm going to drop it and pretend the cliffhanger of episode 1 is the ending. A disappointment all over.

Legend of Lemnear was great. I always had a penchant for girls with white hair. The art style was among the most pleasing I have seen, and the animation was good.

I found it a little funny that the prophecy was more like a "how to slay the bad guy: tutorial", and when you think about it that's probably a more sensible rendition of a prophecy.

more specifically, at the end, Lemnear was remembering random things the old wizard passed down to her and essentially going "okay, so we do this now" to Messhu

I am currently watching through Record of Lodoss War for the first time in over a decade in English dub. The voice acting was directed in a corny manner but some voices are well done. The animation could be stiff at times but overall it works and I enjoy how the characters are drawn. Also despite being based upon tabletop RPGs, the gameplay elements are subtle as oppose to modern RPG animes that throw it in your face such as open discussions of leveling up by characters and game user interfaces on screen.

Also, I enjoy the interaction between Deedlit and the other characters.

It kind of reminds me of some sort of neon arcadeish thing a little. It probably looks even better through the glow of a CRT.

The way the metals under the light are reflecting it and how the light shining onto something makes makes up the bulk of that something's color, everything.

Another thing I notice with some of these really good art styles is that you can't really see what the shape of the top of their head is. I think it's how it's meant to be, if the hair follows the outline of the head, it feels like their skull is hair which is weird and off-putting, but when quite obviously the hair is something attached to the head and hanging off of it that's how real hair is so it feels more natural.

In most anime, even the ones of the same era, even the ones that make heavy use of shading, everything gives off the feeling that it would look mostly the same if the lights were turned off.

But Lemnear's style manages to convey the idea that what we see is there because it's bouncing off light and to go with it their choice of colors are amazing. The colors are not dull, they are appear beautifully light and varied without going too far and looking cartoonish or candied, they're the kind of thing that we have a natural attraction for. It's like they took some of their colors from the night sky in my first picture, it's the kind of color scheme we're naturally fascinated by.

The 2 other pictures are something else which I think manages the same effect, there are better examples in actual arcade games, but I don't have MAME installed to screenshot them.

Sure, the creator threw a bunch of religious symbols in there because he liked the aesthetic and wanted to build a certain atmosphere. So there isn't significant deeper meaning to that particular stuff, so what? That doesn't make it 2deep4 anybody but retards who go looking for their art to be a morality lecture. There's this convoluted alien invasion/international research stuff serving as a backdrop which can be hard to follow. I think that part was intentionally convoluted to show the complex world of adults from the view of Shinji, who is still a child anxious about stepping into the adult world. That's just my thought though. You can argue they should have gone the modern isekai route and expositioned all the details of their world to MC before he becomes an unwavering gary stu.

It's a solid simple story about kids growing up with parental issues and them carrying that cycle of abuse forward. That doesn't even require you to read into anything. Take the scenes at face value and you'll see it. Eva was effective enough to be widely popular. Apparently it wasn't too difficult for the average normie Jap to grasp. Why was it so difficult for you?

wow, that's, uh.....deep? He chose it because it looked cool. Fucking deep, man.

>"he wanted to build an atmosphere"

this is you trying to say "he chose it because he thought it looked cool" while trying to sound sophisticated.

>"so there isn't a meaning to that particular stuff, so what?"

So it is "2deep4u." He chose something because it looked cool, and shoved it in everyone's face to tease interpretation, and then admits that it is meaningless. Then we correctly call him out on this, and we're attacked because you're a manbaby who invested his ego into a shitty anime and don't like us calling it fake-deep, which it is by Anno's own admission, and yours.

This is called "mental gymnastics." It's what fanboys like you do when your fee fee's get hurt.

>"there's this convoluted alien invasion/international research stuff that can be hard to follow"

Right, so it's exactly what we say it is; 2deep4u. No one can explain the shit coherently, not in over 20 years. You can't. /a/ can't. So maybe we have a point by calling him a "postmodern" hack that fakes profundity because "muh subverting expectations." SO FUCKING ORIGINAL, that one.

>"It's a solid simple story about kids growing up with parental issues and them carrying that cycle of abuse forward."

my point was never about it being a kiddie show that manbabies get mad about when you point out it is a kiddie show. Funny you admit to it.

Our point is that it is a kiddie show that wants to be more than a kiddie show but can't figure out how, so it's fake-deep. Again, manbabies don't like people saying that.

>though none of you can explain what any of it signifies

There's lots of sources for theories and analysis. Like https://wiki.evageeks.org/

As for the bullshit argument that the symbolism is "random" and just for the show, that's nonsense. It's partially explained in the TV series itself and later books and videogames what the meaning behind the angels and such are.

For example; Adam and Lillith are the different seeds sent by advanced life-forms from another part that led to the creation of the two life-forms on earth. You could say that it's just "random" that they are named after two religious beings, the first humanoid forms in the bible/torah that God created or maybe it refers to how religions often contain half-truths whose true meaning has become vaguer after being passed down over the ages.

People like you have become used to the way modern-day media (especially western media) spoon-feed every last bit of information to its viewer, to make sure there is no room for interpretation, so when you see a show that doesn't do that, you mistakenly believe that there's no meaning whatsoever to any of the aspects of the series not directly explained.

People like you are what led to the creation of the cancerous remakes, which were stripped down of its original meaning to make a stereotypical popcorn entertainment action series for retards like you to consume. Anno himself said that the remakes were made for the "new generation of otakus" which is another way of saying normalfags who don't actually like anime and only watch it for the memes. Like you.

And yes, I know you are trolling but there are some people who actually think like this so I'm going to post it anyway.

I watched this one recently too, and like the anon said in the last thread, it's basically Heavy Metal: the Anime. I mean it's even got pseudo-rotoscoping parts with Lemnear and her pterodactyl bird. I couldn't help but play The Mob Rules on certain points.

I also saw Genmu Senki Leda yesterday. I loved how rich the backgrounds were, and the whole thing had a magical, adventurous vibe. If I'd have to make a comparison, I'd say Leda is more Dragon Quest, and Lemnear is more early Final Fantasy/Valis.

While there's nothing wrong with just watching in production order, the only essential is watching the main series first. Actually even then, I figure someone can watch Mellowlink at any time since despite sharing a setting and a cameo here and there it doesn't depend on the main Votoms story or characters at all. I haven't seen some of the OVAs but among the ones I have seen I'd say Last Red Shoulder and Roots of Ambition are the most important to watch after the main series since they fill in some of the blanks.

Watch the OVA.

The first one is honestly the best one.

If you like it then give the second and third OVAs a try.

Don't go in expecting something on the level of the first OVA though. The second one is a complete mess, but can be entertaining. You can skip right to the third one without missing out on much. Third one is alright, but is also a mess until it picks up half-way though.

The TV series is really bad and is not related to the OVAs. Most of the series is filler with an insufferable mary sue MC on top of it.

Still amazed how they try to retcon Makoto's mary sue shit only to just pretend he had any character development by the end.

If you have to watch an episode of it, the Shayla/Afura origin episode is the only good one.

Give it time, anime will soon suffer the same fate as vidya. Just as there hasn't been a single good video game released since 2007, there will come a time in the mid-2020s when good anime stops being produced and literally everything becomes a steaming pile of shit.

The kicker is that there is literally nothing you can do to stop this. Just let nature take its course. Anime is doomed.

>>109158

Hey, at least some /v/ anons had the good sense to finally surrender their medium to their kike overlords after E3 2018. Fallout 76 still made millions despite the disastrous reception and TLOU2 will inevitably sell billions because Generation Z is the most materialistic, leftie cucked, nigger loving generation in human history and their heads would explode if ever faced with a non-Marxist worldview.

We've already reached that point in my opinion. The last anime which I thought was genuinely creative was Flip Flappers and that was from 2016. It seems like right now, everything is just a parody of a parody or a reboot of some sort, just like in the western movie industry.

I think the "2007 was when everything went to shit" rule holds up to anime as well, 2007 was the last truly good year for the medium and after that it went downhill completely.

Sasuga /animu/, in the meantime I watched the last 2 Patlabor films 2 and 3. I really liked 2, very reminiscent of GitS same studio. And while 3 was made after 2000 I thought it was noteworthy as kind of an end to the franchise. SV2 got very little screentime and was more or less interchangeable as a part of the story, subject matter much different from mecha takes the priority story wise. I think it did the show justice though, because it's a bookmark to the image of the future of the original series.

One of those anime where the visuals/animation are god-tier but it's wasted on a poorly done story which explains why most people haven't heard of it. It had that realistic and fluid look that other films in the late 90s and early 2000s like Jin-Roh and Vampire Hunter D had but there's just no way that you can care about a story or characters like that. Just wasted potential.

I would not get so anal over realism but I would prefer if they glorified already existing beautiful planes instead of introducing OC donut steel invincible superplanes. Only Area88 attempted to do so but unfortunately the original manga's planes were already archaic in the (mediocre) remake.

An Ace Combat anime with less cheese in the script would do the trick.

Marie, Electra, and the Italian nurse are tied as best girls. They're all perfect in their own way.

Señorita Grandis is canonically an used goods whore and she already has 2 beta orbiters.

But there is one most important matter.

They keep teasing me. I want to see her tits, with actual nipples, not the pictured nonsense.

And by her I mean Marie obviously, I don't care about that retarded vegan/unrealistically pacifist Indian nigger. I have never engaged in discussion about this series, but I seriously hope the pajeet is as universally hated as she deserves to be.

Thinking of rewatching GITS.

I remember there was something up with the UHD versions, like scenes redrawn digitally or something. Should I get the UHD blu-ray or the old blu-ray? I'd like the higher resolution/bitrate version but not if it's pozzed.
