Chaos is getting a new dex with the ettera already included. Plus they're getting several new units and a new CSM box. With Abby getting a make-over maybe he will be less of an armless failure and actually win for once!

When they get a starter set featuring IG vs whatever. Honestly, if IG were ever given the opportunity I'm sure they would deliver. Hell, the ad mech are in two boxed sets! Could even throw a Knight in with the guard just to show that they too can use them. Not that they need them, especially if said set had a Leman Russ or a Basilisk.

But all Rhinos are based on the same Standard Template Construct, and thus they all have the same proportions. Making a machine bigger is more complicated than just telling a computer "up all dimensions by 10%".
In any case, the rest of the image still features drop pods the size of a titan, Predators larger than a Baneblade and a guardsman that's 1,80m next to a 2m tall Space Marine that seems to be double the height of the guardsman. As the other anon pointed out, the proportions are a bit fucked up

I always assumed the AdMech upscaled Space Marine vehicles from their STCs to begin with as the DAoT humans were not 8foot slabs of meat that required far larger buttons and chairs. STCs are more commonly blueprints and not .stl files on roids anyway.

Aside from some stylistic changes (curvy trim is in vogue now, apparently), look at the heads compared to the rest of their bodies - they're much smaller. Which probably actually means that the bodies are much bigger. I imagine they just didn't want termies to be manliest compared to the new power armour CSMs. I agree berserkers are a higher priority, but they're probably waiting to do a full Khorne release with Angron at some point.

Gonna repost this from the other thread, 'cause it got lost, but Version 1.1 of Imperial Atomica is out. It's a system-agnostic splatbook for the FFG RPGs about nuclear warfare and postnuclear survival.
This update is mostly quality-of-life fixes, aiming to polish and rebalance some of the stuff I missed in version 1.1. It also includes a bunch of new gear, several new vehicles, a ton more art, and many other things besides.

Well, if you hate model updates that are just pose changes then the new havocs will probably not be to your liking.
I did like how GW is giving Chaos rotor cannons, probably to make up for the fact they gave Primaris autocannons so CSM lose another unique thing to the loyalists. I will say that the old havoc models are barbaric monopose abominations, but I expected more than just an update to plastic. Most people just kitbash devastators anyway, so why not make a kit that's more like that? Two of each special weapon per box + combi-weapons and melee weapons/pistols for the sergeant.

>Go to LGS to see wtf this 'new' Killteam bullshit is. Was invited by a friend who wants to get his first game in with his AdMech killteam.
>He's been trying to get me to pick up a paintbrush and take a crack at my Orks ever since I moved to town last year after being gone for 3 years. He knows I, and my Warboss, miss our Boyz.
>Been kinda depressed since I moved here. It's complicated.
>This invite is his latest friendly hand to get me out of my apartment
>Fuck it, fine. I'll try not to bitch too much about how 40k has changed since I played. I do this all the time whenever we talk 40k.
>Got no models, just want to watch
>Killteam rep approaches me "Hello anon, you here for some Killteam?'
>"Got no Orks with me to play man. Just wanna watch.'
> Kid half my age in the wingers says, "I got some orks you can borrow, anon! More than enough for a 100 point list."
>I feel the grognard grumble in me. "I don't know, bud. Haven't played since 6th ed. I'd be making you wait while I build my list."
> Kid: "That's okay. Have you read the Killteam rules?"
> Me: "Skimmed them a while ago. Got a basic understanding but still a lot I don't know."
>Kid as he slides his box full of Orks at me, "I can teach you."
>The grognard in me grumbles, "How many games you got under your belt?"
>Kid: "I've played ten games, and the rep can help us if anything weird comes up."
>Pick up the first ork in the box that catches my eye. It's a Nob. Kid gave the whole box of orks a really shitty paint job but when I squint at them I can see some potential in the kid.
>Looking at the shitty nob sparks off an old memory. The nostalgia hits me like a kareening trukk with a redlining engine. I hear the distant echo of a WAAAGH building up somewhere in my mind.
>Great Gork and Mork but do I miss my Boyz...
>Start trying to suppress the nostalgia.
>That just makes it worse. I can see the rows of raised shootas (I ran a DAKKA heavy Ork army back in the day), and the quiet laughter of sneaky gits working their way through cover (with a full unit of Kommandos).
>I remember, I can run Kommandos in Killteam.
>I can see Snikrot's grin flash under his glowing NVG optics.
>Damn it.
>Me: "Alright. Give me some time to wrestle with the rulebook and I'll whip up a quick list. Can we skip selecting specialists to keep it easy?"
>Kid: "Yeah."
>Looking at the options available to orks. Lamenting the lack of any good armor saves.
>Zog oy miss me 'Ardboyz.
>Come to think of it, first time playing 40k of any kind in... 4, 5 years?
>Am I doing this right?
Kept it simple. Two Burnas, a Spanna with Rokkit Launcha, Boss with Big Choppa (Kombi-Skorcha), three Kommandos, Three Shoota Boyz, and a Grot.
I had no idea if that was a good list or not but I found it funny how my ork shootas were getting more hits than his Black Templars (had an Auspex-assisted Sergeant and a Sniper). We ended the game at a friendly tie on turn 4 as I had to suddenly leave. I have some gripes about some things - like not being able to chase a zoggin' git who withdraws from melee, or not being able to fire my zoggin' slugga at a grot while advancing... But it was still fun. The Orks got the first kill but I think if the game went on long enough he would have won out for points.
But zog me, those 6+ armor saves are a real pain. Good thing my Kommandos were there to suck up most of the ranged attacks. He had a really hard time trying to get a bead on them.
...Well, I guess I better break out those Ork Boy sprues that have been sitting in my storage bins since 2011.

You're going to teleport them or dump them out of a Spartan or Dreadclaw right? Just forget about footslogging them unless you really really want to play ultrafluffy DG.
The best loadout for 10 is probably going to be 2 guys with plasmablasters and fist, and the rest a mix of Volkite and fist/claw, maybe a chainfist or two. This gets you a solid mix of melee and ranged, so they can still be a threat after destroying their target, or on the way towards it, but make no mistake, dakka must never be their main role.
For pure melee you're better off with Tartaros, going all dual claws and chain/fist. Of course, at that point a transport is pretty much obligatory.
The biggest question though, is what legion you are playing and whether or not their special termies are more useful for your purposes.

The starter boxes are cheaper than getting the individual stuff or any of those "Start Collecting" boxes. Also you now have multiple starter sets to choose from. When the WHFB world blew up he/she ate all the elves because why not and this lead to it being pulled entirely into reality but this allowed it to be contained and chained up by Teclis and his brother.
They then kept it chained up in a wierd pocket dimension between the magical discworld realms and light and shadow in the same place Nagash sent the city of Shadespire. Now some of those steampunk dwarves, who of course ruin everything they touch, get an item called "The Mirror of the most vain" while plundering Shadespire and now they are being hunted down by the roaming cenobyte tribes of 'godseeking Hedoknights' that have been basically raised by daemonettes and keepers of secrets to be worshippers looking to free Slaanesh which is clearly going to happen as the big event as part of the years ongoing regression to make stuff for the most part, sigmarines aside, be more familiar to the fantasy stuff. They brought back skaven and the ghouls, grots and fireslayers are getting this shit recently and theres rumours after slaanesh of lizardmen.
Tomb Kings never ever.

The long and short of it is Sigmar rode the burning old world as a twin tailed comet through space, met this zodiac beast that lead it to these elemental discworlds where magic comes from. The souls disperesed using the life realms magic and were reborn. Some were such dominant personalities they retained complete continuity like Nagash, others were reborn as the same people and lead different lives but their personality lead to similar choices and an overall similar person all over again. But then a lot of the generic souls of the warhammer world just went native to each realm. Humans for example are industrial power houses in the metal realm but zealous bright wizards and witch hunters in the fire realm.
So some stuff carries on the same, Nagash raises the dead as skeletons in the exact same way so guess what skeletons are still just skeletons. Other stuff went through it and came out different or wrong. The Deepkin are an attempt by a reborn Teclis to pull the souls of elves out of Slaaneshes gut to remake the high elves but roughly 2000 years in the gut of the god of excess left its traumatic marks and they were pale and fearful of the light so fled to the ocean depths but their children are eyeless, pale albinoids with no souls so they raid fishing villages for souls and use sea based magic so the towns forget they were raided and the people who are stolen. Some high elves naturally reincarnated but they are this pheonix cult thats not been to expanded upon but are fewer in number whereas the deepkin are in oceans in all the realms.
Meanwhile there are Wood elves but most of them didn't reincarnate into mammalian life at all. In the realm of Life Allariel is the god of seasons and the antithesis -or some say counterpart- to Nurgle. Through her most wood elves were reborn as dryads, some with a half ghostly form growing out of bark and timber torso resembling their elvish roots. While some like Drycha Hammadreth are also back like that but kept their continuity but are extremely traumatised and little more than a berzeker.
and then the dark elves are litteraly a all female race of lamia and harpies after being trapped inside slaanesh the longest, they call themselves the daughters of khaine but nobody will be surprised when they turn out to be slaaneshi cultists down the line.
Basically some people are reborn and remember, some are reborn and keep their personality but dont and others are reincarnated as totally new people but might remember certain cultural touchstones like brightwizards or dwarven runes and not even know why. Bare in mind most of this is coming out with the second edition releases. That shitty "you got a beard wind your roll xD" 1st edition trash is completely off the table, theres now a 300 page history of what happened in the millenia between end time and soul wars, the 1st edition made it looks like house of M or something and sigmar snapped his fingers and whole new civilisations existed. Looking back it feels like they wanted a true reboot and due to deserved backlash worked it into a sequel instead. Love or hate the game the worldbuilding is much better in second because it actually has any. some of it like the magic in the realm of life being so strong at the edge it turns women into permanently self impregnating immaculate baby factories that give birth to new species of life go full on magical realm. Meanwhile "Sigmars greatest mistake" are turning into emotionless robots that wipe out human settlements because merely existing is the potential for chaos so guess what they are turning into the lawful evil everyone expected. Shocking huh?

Alright. I am gonan be honest, the only thing positive to come out of age of sigmar are how the marine elves exist now as a faction and shadespire. Some of the goblin, ork, and undead models look nice too, but that does not justify the old world being destroyed. The new orks look more in place in 40k than fantasy in my opinion too.

Actually believe it or not Orkz have kind of been left behind in Age of Sigmar. They just aren't very popular and as yet have no major updates for 2nd edition.
Meanwhile, and i do really like the nautical devilry of the Deepkin i think the Grots right now are a way better state than they were in the last edition of WHFB. Moonclan Grots, Spider worshippers, gargants and troggoths are all one large group that go into a frenzy when Da Bad Moon appears over a realm and causes a Gloomspite. They believe if they cause enough carnage they will catch the moons attention and hold it in place to cause 'The Everdank' which their Loonking has already done over a former Skaven city in the realm of metal. It makes everything mildewy, its twilight all the time, bugs explode from the ground along with forests of fungi which even explode from spores in human bodies.
It also helps Da Bad Moon itself is a massive cosmic asshole. Its eaten other moons because it was jealous of them getting worshipped, its saved towns of wood elves only to spit down loonrocks and kill them afterwards, he regularly invades the realm of chaos just to be an asshole. On the current map of the realms he is shown flying around the realm of slaanesh because "fuck you i'm the bad moon you can't tell me what to do" and nurgle finds him to be like a incorrigible nephew but tzeentch fucking hates him as he is the one element in the universe he has no control over.
Nobody knows where he comes from. Some say he is Gork or Morks head, a giant piece of cheese gorkamorka broke his teeth on, an egg laid by the spidergod and more.
All people really know is the bravest armies in the warhammer universe can stand against armies of undead or skaven just fine but still see a cresting asshole come over the horizon and go "aw shit lads, its the fucking bad man" and thats peak greenskin. He could show up in 40k and i would have on complaints.

Heavy bolters are good, for some reason now. Plasma is cheaper than melta. Plus you don't have to worry about Gets Hot! anymore if you only shoot it on low charge. But you can over charge them for +1 S, at the risk of getting blown up. Missiles are good too. Your list also seems like it can deal with anything just in case. Fair enough. I definitely recommend picking up some plasma, though, it's a great weapon for guard now. Also, take a look at guard doctrines when you can, it can drastically change the way you run your army.
>I was surprised too.
One of the things I've realized when writing guard lists is that I run out of things to take before I run out of points. Guard are incredibly cost effect, and compare everything in other armies to what I can take for the same points in a guard list. The standard for me is either one leman russ or 9 mortars. When it comes to orks, the vehicles are too expensive for what they're capable of, especially when it comes to shooting, and the specialist infantry typically too soft. With the way cover works now, it's just not worth it take 17 point lootas or tank huntas, when they die just as easily as a 7 point boy. The only exception (for me) are kommandos, which are only 8 points and very survivable with their infiltration ability, and nobz, which are durable enough to be worth it.
>>415302
The plan is to use the weirdboy to Jump as many of the boyz and nobz as possible. I'm really going to be relying on cover and grot shields to keep the bulk of the army alive, admittedly. If I run into serious anti-infantry I'm going to have problems, unless I manage to tie it up in CC before too long.

Its not like you trying to be competitive so build everything that seems fun to you. Also why do you need chimera for? And I am not sure its a good idea to mix assault/heavy/long range/close range weapons on a unit. They cant advance and shoot, they cant shoot far away, if they are far away only one of them can shoot, etc.

Frankly those description to me are meant to say more about Marienburg (((merchants))) than it does about Norscan society.
Of course there are many people that do Chaos worships AND trade, the entirety of the lore for the Chaos Dwarves revolve around that, the main purpose for raiding is slavery, etc... What is describe here is aligned with what a Khornate society would do, they would just walk openly among the imperials that are too "weak" to even put up a fight and would take what they want be it women, gold or goods. The fact that those people give those willingly is just further proof of their weakness, they might agree to barter useless furs for proper steel as one would give a token from a lord to a peasant, add that Khorne teaches that deceit is weakness and they might think they're actually displaying the fairness of the strong.
But just like in 40k chaos worshiping cults mascarade as something harmless (quite sometime even within imperial cults) doesn't mean they're good guys buy a large margin. Norscan should be treated like WHFB "Lost and the Damned regiments" that go from "guys that had little choice but siding with the strongest" to "one minute away from chaos spawn".

Yes. As long as the mobs are the same type they can mob up. For example, two loota mobs can mob up but not a loota and a tank hunta mob.

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play. The word "eldar" has Norse roots. In Swedish it is literally the plural form of "eld" meaning fire or light:
https://translate.google.ca/#view=home&op=translate&sl=sv&tl=en&text=eldar
which has actually remained unchanged from Old Norse:
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/eldr#Old_Norse
Tolkien borrowed the word Eldar and capitalized it as the name for a race of elves in his fictional elvish language Quenya, which he began creating in 1910:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quenya
Eldar literally means "people of the stars" in Quenya:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sundering_of_the_Elves#Eldar
where the Norse root "eld" meaning fire or light fits very nicely as a reference to stars. For those interested, embedded is an audio recording from 1952 of Tolkien reading a Quenya poem, Namárië, from Lord of the Rings
Tolkien's capitalized "Eldar" has been used in other works such as the Riftwar Saga fantasy novels by Raymond Feist, again to describe a race of elves (apparently without legal problems). The Tolkien Estate also seems to have had no problem with Games Workshop using the name Eldar or their likeness and traits for Warhammer 40K.
All of that being said, the word seems to be most commonly known from the futuristic Eldar, the space elves of Warhammer 40K. But can Games Workshop really lay any claim to the word Eldar itself, as they appear to be doing on their Intellectual Property Policy:
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Intellectual-Property-Policy
alongside "Space Marine" and other terms? Tolkien capitalized the word in the early 1900s as a race of elves, "people of the stars", and he took the word from the Norse languages which were around during the Viking age over a millennium ago.
After GW's highly controversial and failed attempt to remove a book from Amazon for simply using the term 'space marine' (which has been in use since the 1930s by author Robert Heinlein and others):
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2013/02/trademark-bully-thwarted-spots-space-marine-back-online
they seem to have backed off from legal aggression and have also renamed their armies into specific names that GW can exclusively claim. Space Marines have been officially renamed to Adeptus Astartes, Eldar have been officially renamed to Aeldari, etc.
If a new book or computer game was released that used the term "Eldar" to refer to an elf-like race (assuming that it was quite different from 40K Eldar and in a different setting), do you think GW would attempt any legal action? Do you think they've settled on Aeldari now and would probably leave the name Eldar alone and respect its Norse and Tolkien origins?

#NotMyGodEmperor: Why Are There So Many Actual Fascists in the Warhammer 40K Fandom?
PREVIEW:
>It all started when I saw a picture of Trump photoshopped to be the God-Emperor of Mankind.
>It was last December, when Trump’s campaign was swinging into high gear. I was a young innocent oh those many months ago, but that picture caused a twinge in me. It was a little like enjoying Liar’s Poker (which I do) and then finding out that some Wall Street creeps used it as a guide (which they did). It annoys me when people I dislike share an appreciation for something I like, but I brushed it off.
>But I kept seeing that picture, and similar images, popping up all over the internet. And then after I wrote a particularly divisive article for TMS back in January, I started getting exposed to the less friendly elements of Warhammer 40k’s fanbase and it started to get stuck in my brain. And then I remembered how, back when GamerGate was still a thing that people took seriously, how they would often use repurposed images from Warhammer 40k as propaganda. And some dots started connecting in the back of my brain.
>That’s ridiculous, I told myself. There’s absolutely no way they could be genuinely identifying with the Imperium of Man or its fascist power structure. After all, the Imperium of Man is a parody of fascism, and not a particularly subtle one at that, since the game constantly talks about how much life sucks and how the authoritarianism causes more problems than it solves. They’d have to be blind to not see that Warhammer 40k is… kid…ding.
>Oh. Oh no.

Yes the empire of man might have been imagined as a parody of fascism back in the 80s. As well as the edgy "atheist-empire-the -emperor-wanted" backstory.
But the fact is, that the IoM wouldn't last a single day as a democracy/ sjw-tier political system.
the brutality and strictness is NECESSARY for humanity to survive. Any weakness would not be forgiven by the enemy.
The enemy from outside as well as the enemy from within!
And you need to keep the people in check, because if the empire would lower their grip over the untold trillions of trillions chaos (and CHAOS) would erupt withing hours.
As well as conscription and throwing millions into the meat grinder of eternal warfare. it is necessary for the overall survival of humanity.

No.
Tau fourth sphere got wiped out by the cicatrix maledictum on launch. Fifth sphere had new warp skimming engines on all the ships, against engineer advise the ethereal sent them all off at once. Opened rift into warp.
The Tau created the Greater Good ideology. They have many warp sensitive and manipulating member races. These races' various views of the Greater Good created a gestalt entity, who has many as helping hands as there races.
The Tau who saw the warp were at first horrified, then moved to tears as the god shoved them into real space, then so disgusted at the god's existence that the started racially cleansing the fifth sphere of expansion. All the commanders were deposed when contact was reestablished, but the deed was already done by then. Now there is a wormhole from Tau space to somewhere north east of Ultramar.
If I recall correctly.
Their universal revulsion of warp shenanigans strengthens the argument that they're descended from Necrontyr.

I think the overarching theme with the Tau is how fast their tech evolves. They have been nothing more than a fart in the greater timeline of things in 40k, but they already got anything from jet-powered battlesuits to artificial intelligence to high-powered plasma weapons.
The other races may still outdo them in most fields of technology (Imperial titans, Ork genetic engineering, Eldar psykery stuff), but unlike them, the Tau didn't need tens of thousands of years if not more to come up with what they already have.
Considering they're all blanks and the heavy hints that they Eldar somehow are involved in the creation of the Ethereals, they basically follow the Orkz in the theme of being a biological (and by now technical) weapon wildly out of control, even if their reach still is as low as it gets.

DoWsecondary here, I'm curious about the Imperial Guard.
Are they supposed to, in lore/on tabletop, fight like a modern army with small elite groups being supported with vehicles or do they throw a giant wall of bodies and vehicles at their enemies until they win?
Also how common is it for any IG officer to have plasma weaponry?

Both, the Imperium is so large Guard regiments can be almost anything.
Plasma weapons are on the rare side but common enough high ranking officers can carry plasma pistols or specialists can be issued a plasma gun. Good luck getting more than one per squad though.

Elite is usually limited to scions and stormtroopers. For regular guard regiments you definitely have some difference between storied elite regiments like the Vostroyans and more generic shit, but they're all more on the wall of flesh side.
Plasma is mostly limited, but depending on what your regiment in question has been cleared to requisition and whatever supplies are available, I'm sure you could still have 30k Solar Auxillia style with entire 10 man squads with plasma, in the right circumstances. Not in the actual 40k rules though.

>Keepers of Secrets are the Greater Daemons of Slaanesh. Created subconsciously by the Prince of Pleasure, these Daemons are the ultimate manifestation of his desire for physical excess and pleasure in battle.
<The navel (clinically known as the umbilicus, colloquially known as the belly button, or tummy button) is a protruding, flat, or hollowed area on the abdomen at the attachment site of the umbilical cord. All placental mammals including humans have a navel.
Neverborn my ass. Unless that hole is used for unbirthing we have ourselves a mystery. Isha is likely still alive in Nurgles garden, so the Prince of Pleasure does not have the aspect of fertility. Birth in the regular and mythological senses is beyond his capability without a female aspect to gestate it.
Daemons are made of emotion and symbology, things noticed by minds awake and asleep, thus the inclusion of the navel must be significant.

II High Priestess and X Fortune. Indeed one would be 'highly religious' but in a way that they would understand the warp better than Magnus. Weaker at using, but far more fine tuned. Where Magnus can summon lightning and fire the 2nd can summon coffee. Wise council. Most Primarchs either were offput by his obtuse advice, or gave it high regard.
Fortune? Mix the Lamenters with Cato Sicarius. Highest highs and lowest lows, crass bravado and gutted depression. Would have been Angron's support network, possibly convincing him to take the nails out. Would have been able to get Guillaman to chill out, meaning the reasonable marines of Ultramarines were likely his stock. Most alike Sanguinius.

They should have just made a Gundam style 1/6 plastic kit of a real marine. Then just do what Bandai already does and use the same sprue as a base for countless derivatives with colour swaps and extra sprues added for different loadouts and armour marks. Then they could do a P-Bandai equivalent directly from GW for more obscure variants like Charcarodons and such.
Either way, I'm not putting one of those generic looking sigmarines on my shelf, no thanks.

Well, KD manage to cast pretty nice female faces and their scale is just slightly bigger, though the faces themselves are usually a good match for GW models.
I think it's got a lot to do with the desire to make "badass" wamens, which probably makes it a lot harder to balance the design. Especially since the SoB style don't allow for more outlandish punky aesthetics that you can see in the Necromunda thots, manning up the facial structure is probably one of the few ways to do it. Lorewise it makes more sens for them to look like that as well, but yea, If I'm building any SoB I think I'll stick to the helmets and pop in a spare KD head here and there.

The only hint that GW would ever consider Femmarines is the irrelevant twitter rantings of some cog in the European marketing division. Female Space Marines seems to be the one line GW won’t cross. Most of the soy comes from Black Library, where authors like Aaron “Daddy issues, also I put women in every non-Space Marine authority role due to the Oedipal complex I received as part of my daddy issues” Dembskii-Bowden

Plus we are actually getting SoB for real now. As far as anyone uninitiated is concerned, they're practically female space marines anyway. You'll always have the handful of trannies and hambeasts whining about the boobplates and high heels, but as long as they make them a decent army and maybe not focus so much on Wards' guro fantasies in the fluff, no one's going to be bothered. Shitlib NPCs have enough pet peeves to keep them occupied elsewhere these days anyway.

Then the file uploaded to there must've been tampered with. A quick search for "Lord of ultramar anal" and I get a redditor commenting on it that specifically notes he's DL'd the book from a torrent.
I skimmed through the reviews at Goodreads and found nothing. As shitty a NPCfag place as that is, there's bound to be someone mentioning it if it's actually in the real book, if not in condemnation then some tranny faggot praising how progressive it is.
Speaking of this kind of stuff though, I found some funny things in the Titanicus book, pics realted. I seem to recall a similar thing in one of Abnetts' HH books, where a fourteenth company of the eighty-eight expeditionary fleet or something is mentioned. There's also a scene in the Titanicus book where a nigger admech menial is talking to a white woman in the background, and the narrating character mentions something about how it's funny seeing admech and imperial personnel trying to mingle even though everyone knows they are separate entities that can never come together. That woman also later gets evaporated by a turbolaster.
So I don't know, is he placing little easter eggs telling us that he is also eagerly waiting for our uncle to come back from the moon to liberate us from the servants of Satan? Yea, I'm gonna go with that.

They're better than the basic infantry of most other armies, but that comes at cost, typically being twice or three times the cost of other armies base infantry. This means that when you start taking causalities, you really feel it. That guardsman may be crappier in every conceivable way compared to your marine, but there's three times as many of him as there is of you. I'd argue that they're real strength is hitting on 3's in shooting, and the fact that a +3 save becomes a +2 in cover, making them much more durable.
>psykers
Imperial psykers just suffer mortal wounds if they miscast, there's no chance of them becoming possessed. Only the Renegades and Heretics Malefic Lord can become possessed, but he's 80 fucking points in an index army, so why the fuck would you ever run him?

SM are more of a jack-of-all-trades army than the power houses that you read about. Although, BA are probably the strongest army currently. They're forgiving as in if you screw up or something happens that you did not expect to happen to your army, you're not gonna get screwed over. Unlike the IG or Eldar, if something like genestealers or another dedicated assault units hits them.
Psykers loose out on the crazy warpshenanigans in 8th. In HH however, your psyker can get fucked up.
No, but its is for Slaanesh

Anything from their chosen list, or school or whatever. So they could cast your basic Smite all the way to auroras or buff or even summoning demons. Rule book also says that there is no issue with a Chaos Sorceror using "Divine," skills or if an Imperial psyker uses Daemonology. but, you'd have to have some kind of justification for doing so.

Morkanaut with a KFF is pretty useful, especially if you have a lot of transports, kans or similar that can get within the bubble. I don't really play either, but I doubt I'd take the Gorkanaut though.
That being said, the buggies aren't really much worth it either, the Skrapjet is pretty decent and the Dragsta can be useful, but I'd skip on the others.

72 points for M14" T5 W5 with 24" assault 2 rokkits. 1-5 squad and can outflank.
100 points for M10" T6 W9 with 24" assault 2d3 rokkits, 24" assault 1 rokkit with +1 to hit against vehicles, twin big shoota, spiked ram and essentially a powerfist CCW. 1-2 squad, explodes on a 6. Strangely enough it has 4+ WS versus the buggy's 3+
I'd really want both to be honest. The outflank on the regular buggies is really useful and with the extra speed that more than makes up for the lower dakka and toughness, while a couple of scrapjets are great for running along with the boyz and hopefully charging into something in the end.

Yea, they should just make two different full 10-man MPPKs, one with traitor guardsmen with the usual loadouts and then something more barbarian like these guys, with different loadout options to make more of a CC horde.
Hell, they could do it even easier if they wanted to, just like they added a extra sprue for boltpistols and chainsword with the Tzaangors they could do the same with the fantasy Khorne and Tzeentch cultists.
Between those two options we'd have more than enough general infantry, and would just need a upgrade sprue for vehicles similar to what GSC got, a kit of Chaos Ogryn to go with the boss that's with the Commissar (whenever they decide to release those) and we pretty much have all we need. A plastic Malcador or Macharius would be great too.

All cops are arbites, you're the ones that are a misconception.
There is but one law in the imperium, the Lex Imperialis which is an imperial codex, which is an actual thing, the most recent IRL is Napoleonic Code, which he bootlegged from the Roman emperors. It's the basis of most of the non-english world laws (and almost the complete opposite of the "common law" concept). Which is enforced solely by the Arbites.
Now because there is but one law doesn't mean there aren't local "rules"... which needs "Enforcers".
>The arbites are like the FBI of the imperium, not regular cops.
Nah it's more like the Arbites are the actual police, while the "Enforcers" are mall cops.
Enforcers are called that because they "enforce" the will of the local ruler (within the confines of the Lex Imperialis) upon the locals.
The Inquisition would be the FBI. An inquisitor jurisdiction is the whole imperium, an Arbites jurisdiction is just his precinct.

That's literally what laws are, though. The rules set in place by a given ruler. There can be two sets of laws that both apply, like how in the US you have the federal law and the state law. The arbites enforce Imperial law, and the enforcers enforce planetary law.

I've been reading up on it a little and the distinction seems to be rather a grey area. There are definitely Arbites that enforce Imperial rule over a planet and monitor the Planetary Governor to ensure his loyalty and his Tithes are paid, but Arbites also seem to have a more local role which overlaps with what is described as "Enforcers".
Check out the 2nd Ed Codex Imperialis entry for Arbites which explicitly says that Arbites don't concern themselves with petty day-to-day crimes, but then also says that Arbites will patrol the underways of hives, break up vicious "queue wars" outside government buildings and have detectives that will look through holo-records and pursue cyber-criminals.
It's kind of inconsistent.

>Arbites also seem to have a more local role
If there is something really illegal going on. In general they can butt in on anything local police force does. They can do whatever they want if they suspect something. But usually they have more important stuff to do. If some noble house dealing with xenos(like tau or eldar), arbitres supposed to deal with it. If that house dealing with some weird xenos you probably will expect arbitres calling inquisition on their ass, while still working on it.
Not to forget the fact that there are ranking system, so one guy might work on smuggling alien slaves case on a planet and other working on similar case but involving tens of planets all around the sector. Just like inquisition. Technically inquisition can demand anything, but it depends completely on inquisitor standing and from whom he demands things.
In the end local police and arbitres and inqusition can work on the same case furthermore peacefully. You may say that its redundant, but there supposedly only a few arbitres in each system. Also inquisition does whatever each inquisitor pleases, more or less in anarchic structure. While arbitres work as a real organisation with areas of operations.

What I dislike about the HH novels is that they've taken the emphasis away from Horus as it's instigator and put it more at the Word Bearers. So it's more like the Kor Phaeron Heresy, or the Erebus Heresy. Since all the others were downstream of those individuals. Horus just got stabbed with a magic sword that spontaneously made him evil - it wasn't any inherent character flaw or failing that the Chaos Gods exploited to turn him. Fulgrim also lost his agency in his fall as it wasn't any desires of his own that damned him, he just happened to pick up a magic sword from slaanesh aliens.
This takes a lot away from the narrative because the point of the Primarchs was to show that even though you had these demigod beings, they still had human souls which were flawed, vulnerable and open to corruption from the dark mirror the Warp. If they get turned just because of a magic thingy then it takes all that aspect out of it.
>Magnus: Got cornered and basically forced to turn after he failed to warn the Emperor of Horus' betrayal and broke his Dad's webway thing
>Perturabo: Sulked into becoming traitor because he was used and abused by others, never really asserted himself. If he'd been less of an autist he prob would have remained loyal.
>Alpharius/Omegon: No one knows anything about the motivations here, or even whether either or both are dead or alive. Assuming what happened in Legion is correct, they joined Horus to ensure he would win, destroy humanity and then cause the Warp to recede from influencing the galaxy to the extent that it was. But this didn't happen so either the Cabal prophecy was a lie or it refers to Abaddon instead. I don't know if there's much evidence to suggest they're secretly loyalists, but they could be taking their own side with their own unknown objectives.
>Mortarion: He was butthurt about psykers and then Typhus marooned the Death Guard in the Warp and got them infected with diseases until they were forcibly converted. Mortarion can't be 100% happy about his predicament so even though there's no foreshadowing of it I could see there being the possibility that he flips back somehow in some minor way, but that's just personal opinion.

Alpha and Omeg is probably the one that will be least explained. Alpharius was killed on Pluto by Dorn. Since Omegon isn't confirmed to actually exsist, or even if he did, his choice during the whole Heresy remains unkown. Supposedly, he was the Loyalist while Alpharius was the traitor. But with the Cabal, that just complicated things. Alpharius went for horus because the whole; "If Horus wins, Chaos loses." So he was technically "loyal". Omegon on the other hand probably was more overy-loyal than Alpharius. Since he's Alphariuses dual-nature, it could be assumed that while Omegon was loyal, his attitude towards the Cabal was more disagreeing. Thus, he would be helping Chaos out in the long run. IF the Cabal's "warning, plot, theory, etc." is correct.
>>420289
Yeah, its more "Lorgars Lunacy" than Horus Heresy. The sad thing is that almost everytime they tell the story it changes. So we went from: "He was possesed!" to "He was corrupted" to "He was fooled!" to "He got stabbed by a McGuffan and now hes a bad guy!" Same shit with the big show-down at the end.

Magnus wasn’t in any position to refuse Tzeentch when he came calling, seeing as how Russ had pretty much shattered his soul and the Magnus that came back was more of a psychic gestalt of different facets of his personality.
Perturabo realized he was in to deep after he turned his home planet into a giant staging area for the 4th Legion by killing most of the original populace and enslaving the rest. Topping things off by killing his adopted sister, the only person in Olympia he cared about, in a fit of rage.
As other Anons have said, Mortarion hated the Emperor for being a hypocrite when it came to psykers and for denying him his revenge against his adopted father on Barbarus. Then Typhus trapped him in a warp storm and tortured him with disease until he turned to Nurgle for release.
Alpharius and Omegon are complicated, as everything involving the Alpha Legion is. Essentially, Alpharius joined the traitors because a group of Xenos and human perpetual told him that the only way to defeat chaos was for Horus to win, since then humanity would die and Chaos would starve itself. However, it is theorized that the brothers played both sides, either because they disagreed with one another, or because they wanted to hedge their bets. As it stands, Alpharius was killed by Dorn on Pluto, and Omegon was killed by Guilliman later on. Or were they?

>Chaos would starve
In current fluff chaos dont give two shits about materium. They take easy to steal things, but otherwise they just fight with each other. The only reason for Horus heresy was the fact that Emps could actually destroy all of them.
What I am wondering about is the fact that Cadia was important because it was shielded from warp storms around EoT and as result it was the only reliable way to leave EoT. But not its destroyed and storms are stronger than ever and yet chaos dont have any problem navigating in them for some reason. Except when navigating to Dark Imperium, I guess.

He's a Daemon at this point though. Even if enough of his own self remains to kindle any amount of doubt over his current path, he'd just be dooming himself and becoming a target for both sides.

Chaos is still fueled by the activity of material beings though, both the Emperor and the Cabals' plans in the current fluff aimed specifically at starving Chaos off one way or another. Even if the gods hadn't been so consciously active in the materium, they'd still be a huge threat to humanity as more and more psykers got born.

Yea, you only get 5 termies in the Landraider so I don't see much point in having it there. I'd ditch it and get in some of the support characters like the Blightspawn guy or a caster, maybe a rhino for the marines. Possibly field the LR as a count-as Plague crawler, which is pretty decent when used aggressively to push up the midfield along with the Haulers.

Yea that looks pretty decent. Not sure you'd need that many crawlers though. If you expect there to be knights, you might want to count one of the termie squads as manreaper guys instead, so you can drop in and try to kill it right away.
Also, I don't know if you've bought the new kits or what, but if you ever feel like you need more PMs outside of the starter, the ETB box and one of the new kits, I'd recommend getting a box of MKIII instead of another PM kit. Yes, you lose out on another set of special weapons, but between converting, third parties and bitz sellers, it's not hard to get by, and the MKIII box gets you a full 10 guys that are a whole lot more customizable than the regular PM kit. Same goes for any new termies, the Cataphractii box has a lot of base bitz and Manreapers can for example be gotten as a upgrade kit from FW.

The Imperium is portrayed as being incredibly feudalistic and every institution has it's own set of laws that govern it's domains and adepts.
The Lex Imperialis (as enforced by the Adeptus Arbites) is at a higher level and covers crimes against the Imperium itself.
Enforcers et al are pretty much the lowest tier, enforcing laws at a particular locality only (e.g. a city, a settlement or a hive section).

What was wrong with it? The popularity of Total Warhammer at least proves the setting still draws people in. I would say the reason Fantasy didn't sell is the bloat that had creeped into the game over the years and most people not wanting to buy massive blocks of infantry.
There's really nothing remotely interesting about the Mortal Realms. Games Workshop just gives you these vague ideas of places and the conflicts that take place but they don't feel remotely concrete.

Whats wrong is the continued perception that they are the same game anymore than Blood Bowl is. Even if the End Times didn't happen a game system like age of sigmar would have happened and just been called War Cry or Skirmish. Its a separate game to fantasy that takes place 3000 years after its apocalypse. Thats a sequel, not a true replacement. Thats what editions are for. The issue with Fantasy was a company not making any money on it and having no direction where to take a rank and flank game so they retired it. They also retired blood bowl, necomunda, space hulk and so on.
GW can easily just make another edition of WHFB. The trouble is solving the issues the last had. Storywise AoS has already established there isn't just 40k and fantasy. There is a multiverse of warhammer all connected by the warp. The chaos gods are the constant between. They specifically said the reason Slaanesh went for the elves in the end times is because they are so similar to the eldar that created it. They already sowed the seeds to bring stuff like Dark Future back and thats itself a seperate timeline where the emperor was never born and humanity stayed mad max but a thunderhawk fell out the warp and was cannibalised for weapon brands like 'krakk brand grenados'. There are currently at least 4 warhammer universes running in parallel. They could easily split fantasy off from end times to go in a different direction to age of sigmar because its not the same game and each game bar kill team, war cry and maybe necromunda are all seperate.
The real issue of course is not writing WHFB back. Different timelime. Bam. Job done. The question is how to create a new edition of a rank and flank game and how to market it. Even should that happen -not impossible and could theoretically happen down the line- its not then going to remove age of sigmar anymore than 40k stopped space hulk existing.
The WHFB want that game to come back. That doesnt mean AoS existing is the reason thats not happening. Its finding the audience for fantasy and if they can do that then it will come back. It will just be an alternate to aos and nobody would complain. Hell the people i know who like AoS like the stuff that is remixing things like moonclan grots or strigoi ghouls because its a what if? of their fantasy armies, but they still play fantasy just like 40k players dont drop it for kill team but play both.

Literally nobody cares about the AoS lore though, unless they are paid to do so. The only reason it's doing good is because the game, simplified as it is, plays pretty well, has consistent support (Or at least the impression of such), they keep releasing new stuff and it's not that horribly expensive. Apart from both the new dwarf factions, which seem to have flopped pretty hard, almost all the new stuff has been received well, and though I've yet to see anyone that actually likes smegmarines, they are usually very powerful and a easy babby's first army.
>>421002
First off that's wrong, it just wasn't selling as much as they wanted it to. Secondly, the reason it did so was because of the sloppy support and expensive entry cost. Remake WFB with at least the core mechanics coupled with the support AoS has (Endless spells should also be added in) and it would be just as, if not more profitable.
I mean, for fucks sake, they just brought Gortrek back into AoS. It should be clear to everyone that the AoS setting is only a vague tapestry that only works even remotely because of all the lore and character from the "Old World" is woven into it.

And somehow they've gotten worse, initially when they were essentially souls of heroes form the old world fused into armours they were at least somewhat different from their spacefaring counterparts, but now that they're seemingly just fucking huge humans (They had to do that so they could have ugly butch nigger wamen among them), there's really nothing remotely interesting about them.

Some fags claim airbrushing is cheating. I think most of their problem is faggots with airbrushes don't use them properly and everything ends up looking shit and out of scale. It doesn't fit the model size but every problems a nail when you have a hammer.
>>419679
I have an airbrush and I don't like models painted with them mostly. They're fine for painting something large 28mm doesn't fit airbrushing for anything but a base coat. It's a fine tool for large models and for getting blends which are nearly impossible other wise. They were originally made for making 2D drawings look 3D with photo realistic blending. The people using them today don't have 1% of the skill the original users did. And I'm no exception.
Airbrushing and hand brushing should probably be in different categories in painting contests though. Completely different skill sets.

The long and short of it is Nagash cursed Ushoran, the original Strigoi, with unending madness for reasons unknown. Maybe he was the only end times survivor that didn't go with him as a henchman like the rest.
Then millenia later the stormcast accidentally let him out and his madness not only intensified but it was now contagious. He roams the land finding the ruined nations left in the wake of the battles that take place where after the evil forces of chaos and the noble forces of order fuck off and the peasants are left to starve.
Some he gives his blood, the others just become savages who catch his madness and see him as the god emperor and his vampires as noble knights not trogloditic monsters.
He then leaves and the stronger ones behind form a flesh eaters court and in time a royal family and infect the serfs with a weaker strain. They aren't dead but a basically mutants infected with death magic and madness.
Theres stories of things like slaaneshi cultists attacking a court and by the time they reach the king drop to their knees to weep as they caught the contagion thats stronger than chaos brainwashing and bow to their new king.
The thing is its hinting that this isn't actually Ushoran and never was, someone else took his name and survived the end times and the madness is a hint among others that its probably the Green Knight Gilles de Breton who was infected with the soul blight of vampirism during his fight with Mallobaude and he went mad, being the demi god he was now with insanity and the power of a vampire Nagash chained him up because he is also a force of order in his own fucked up way and an insane strigoi green knight was a competitor for dominance he didn't want to deal with.
Now "ushoran" roams the land "on a great quest for a prize" and has not been seen in centuries. But he is always attracted to the fallen kingdoms that intended or not imitate brettonia. Theres an example of horse riding knights in the realm of metal or fire that got caught in a massive magical snow storm they were not trained for, they ate their horses, their boots and then their serfs and as they turned on each other Ushoran found them and they became the 'Crypt Haunter Courtiers which are counted as 'knights above knights'.
Its pretty interesting but also one of those things that seem absurdely OP since they aren't undead but insane humans with impossible regeneration for the most part outside the royal families.

It’s a part of the lore meant to allude to the squatted factions, but not actually resolve what happened to them. It’s the same as one of the new Black Library books revealing that Settra is now a Stormcast leading his own Stormhost with a grudge against Nagash. In fact, the Sigmarines seem to be a favorite dumping ground for old characters at least in the fluff. Karl Franz, Gelt, Settra, just say they’re stormcast now and leave it at that.

Originally I remember them as the Agincourt-era chivalric knights with heavy king arthur influence. then, they got semi-reinvented as these crazy warmongering retards who oppressed muh inbred peasants. now they're mindless beast vampires.

Wow, we finally got a Atelier and 40k crossover, and it has the thiccest thighs in any Atelier yet.
I'm already calling the plot; at the end of the game when your Atelier is the best in the world due to unearthing a lot of ancient technology, an Explorator Ark from Mars lands and Reisalin becomes inducted as a leading Magi in the founding of the new Forge World.
In the final cutscene we see Reisalin awakening from a cryo-pod, her juicy thighs gently bouncing when her feet hit the floor, and a menial tells her that the forgeworld needs her ancient al-khemial arts once more, as the camera pans out through the layers of rockcrete to show the endless hordes of Orks besieging the hive.
