Games Workshop has run into this same problem countless times. How do you not destroy your world and everything in it if evil wins over good? How do you make your antagonists maintain a threat if they keep losing? Easy! Make it so the outcomes don't actually matter!

There's an argument to be made for 'But it'll make a more interesting narrative', except it relies on good game balance and fucks up your business since you have to produce models based off the game state. Doesn't make a lot of sense to sell models for a faction/chapter/character that got killed.

Not going to lie, I would actually love to see a miniseries where they animate actual tabletop battles in this way, sort of like how they did the Yugioh Games a few times. I think a lot of fun could be had with that format, of course as long as the battle itself was entertaining. One of the players of my local gamestore decided to bring "college students" aka 30y fat "girls" for a 40k night without bias, aka, no-bigot night.

There's some jokes here and there, but outside of introducing Lady Malas (however you spell her name) and the Deceiver, there's nothing of substance. Though it's nice to see some of the Dark Eldar Stuff.

I think the real sting is that we've waited SO LONG for these episodes (7 months since the Stuff with Vect and Eldrad which was actually pretty good, or a year since the last episode proper). Only to get a tabletop game, that while neat didn't have many jokes or much to discuss. Then THAT gets followed up with a lack luster episode that's more return to form but still not great. At least it's over, hope next months episode is better. And now that I've reminded myself of it TTS Special 5 was supposed to be a part of this episode and I think if you pause Episode 26 at where they encounter the Dark Eldar army then watch the special it becomes a better episode.

-the nids come from where he's supposed to be.

Oh yeah, literally no one would argue against that, but to 'stabilize' the warp you would need to stabilize the universe which is pretty much an impossible task. Isn't that why most Nurgle worshipers see their patron deity as a loving Grandfather that has freed them from the pain of existence, and seek to spread his mercy to everyone else in the world, despite being Nurgle's "mercy" being an existence of being infected with the same plagues you suffered from in life, only now you don't care because for all intents and purposes, you are already dead.

I can see Khorne being appealing to some honorable warriors (Wulfric, though he was undivided, as well as some depictions of Kharn) Tzeentch only really has two kinds of followers, manipulative dicks (Egrimm von Horstman, Viltitch) and "You think you're working agains't me but you're really playing into my master plan!" (Ahriman, pre-heresy Magnus). Ditto Slaanesh, who's champions all seem to be preening narcissists and insane perfectionists. (Sigvald, Lucius)

The (original) prologue states it's probably an heretical text or something, when himself says it's something (which he write in third person as precaution true-name invocation), which might be required to be read by inquisition higher ups. All the book style makes it hard to figure out what it is but I think we're supposed to think it's sort of mandatory? Like if they find it on his corpse they will know what he was up too (which makes sense since inquisitors act alone and under very loose supervision of other inquisitors). It's clearly not a report however more like a will/private journal.

What exactly do you think people write in their private journals if not their weird fantasies?

Also the setup always was that it was a very old and weird record of a clear renegade, probably of one of the first inquisitors or at least much closer to 30k than 40k.

They tried replacing him with Dorn, but Dorn is seriousness is comedic, so it’s just another bit vying for laughs instead of comedic reactions like we used to get when it was just Emps and the Captain-General. I guess you could also try and say Karstodes was another candidate for straight man, but he’s just comedically dense.
