Perhaps you're doing it for the wrong reasons. If you try to force yourself because the idea of death scares you, then I don't think you'll get very far. On the other hand if you try because you can't stand the emptiness of boring mundane life and want to believe there has to be more then that's a good sign.

Purely spiritual thoughts can be translated and justified into near pure materialistic reasoning. Instead of focusing on mastery of non-physical forces, focus on mastery of your surroundings and of your own desires. If you don't know what any of those things are, what they look like, how they affect the world, then use your depression for something useful and think about it. Not having enough energy to act isn't the same as not having enough energy to not think. However, /sunflower/ isn't a good place for trying to find materialistically adaptable viewpoints in my opinion.
I'd suggest this blog as a start, but I've truthfully haven't given the your problem the consideration it needs, and haven't researched any topics related to it with direct intention of learning more about non-spiritual modes of thinking.

I learned to accept any random viewpoint as reality for a time, then proceeded to start practicing. After about 6 months of basic daily practice (Meditation 5-30 minutes, some casting a circle/separation of space ritual like the LBRP), some energy raising ritual (like the Middle Pillar), some energy rotation, one divination ritual and recording everything), I started getting results and when results happen regularly enough, at some point coincidence stops being a sufficient explanation.
Hermeticism at least doesn't want you to believe in some random doctrine without experiencing it yourself. While suspension of disbelief as long as disbelief exists is a vital necessity for practice, it is not meant as a permanent state of being. Personal experience of phenomena isn't optional in any serious mystery, that is only the case in the religious part intended for the masses.

Brother you are doing it the wrong way. There are no absolute truth for you to find. Every way is right as long as it's your way. You should read and experience things in order to find your own truth. There are many way to do "magic" and the main fuel is your own will. Without will there is no magic. So you can't just pick a doctrine randomly. You should belive that is the truth and that's why I'm saying that you need to experience things. Let me alaborate this for you. If I tell you that drinking will not help you with energy or magic, that you have to drop every desire in order to be more powerful will you believe me? Probably, cuz those act are painted as "sin". But in reality if you like to drink (non in a toxic way) and you stop in order to have more energy you are 90% going to fail. Because you will still like it and suppressing you desire is frustrating. You would start thinking that is stupid and that you will feel better if you drink, cuz you onestly like. You find drinking relaxing and joyful, so why would it be an obstacle? And that's actually a good point. And that point will be strong in you, so strong that it will make you have poor results. That's why you will perform better by just doing what you like in a non toxic way. Now this is a straight exemple to make you understand how you should approach things. I don't know if drinking is good or not and I onestly don't care, but I can tell you that if you are in peace you would perform way better. Is all about working on your beliefs. Let me explain this too. If you are drinking and you like it but every time you do that you double question your self about it, is probably not good for you. So let's say that you want to lose that desire for a drink of yours, you can actually do that. And meditation will help you. This way you will perform better, cuz you will overcomed the thing that was pestering you. But once again, there is no absolute truth, you just have to be good with your self. If there is something that you don't like you should work around it in order to be on peace. Remember that all roads bring to Rome. So there are infinite way to do magic. Some of theme are hidden, some of theme need to be created. So go out there and don't question your self to much, follow your instinct.

But you make me mad. You are limiting yourself for something that you don't even know. And even if it is that way why should that stop you? Is not even about magic, but about life in general. I mean why should I drop my dreams for an obstacle? If I'm an engineer I should stop doing that just cuz Elon musk is better than me? No way bro.
