So, I've started watching Enterprise and due to the popular opinion that it sucks ass my expectations were pretty low. But I'm 7 episodes in and I actually like it. Maybe because I'm just coming off of Voyager (which has possibly the least satisfying ending of all time, couldn't you have made 10 minutes of time for a real fucking wrap-up?) and am still suffering minor Janeway-related brain damage, but it seems to be a pretty decent show. The exploration of pre-Feddie Trek is interesting, the set design is good, at least on the NX-01, and the cast seem to be fairly competent. Archer is alright. And aside from going hot into the mpreg episode right at the start the stories have been solid. Does this turn into a flaming wreck later on or are the tales of how awful this show is exaggerated?

Yeah, later 1st and early 2nd season are extremely painful. And the Expanse arc of the 3rd season is like maybe seven good episodes, and lot of filler, and probably the some of the worst episodes of the series. About the only redeeming thing it has over Voyager is that it actually did a fairly good Borg episode, somewhat less technobabble bullshit, possibly because Trip's redneck accent wouldn't have been able to pull it off,and Dr Plox is slightly less annoying than Nelix.
also
>still suffering minor Janeway-related brain damage
Archer basically turns into Janeway with a dick. And I don't mean that in the sexy fetish-y way.

Welcome fellow ENT lover. I went in with fairly low expectations as well (though I have two friends who told me they loved the show), but ended up really digging it.
>Does this turn into a flaming wreck later on or are the tales of how awful this show is exaggerated?
It gets so much better. Without spoiling anything, S3 is a season-long arc and, imho, a good example of what VOY should've been. S4 has mini arcs and the show really shines here. Manny Coto is the one you have to thank for saving what could be saved and actually delivering on really good storylines. The last episode is fucking garbage though (maybe you've heard people rightfully bitch about it) and I actually ended up reading a fucking ENT novel that (kinda) rewrote it just so we wouldn't end on that note. Just keep that in mind.

Building a Dyson Sphere around the Earth and making Vulcan pay for it will never work and is just campaign rhetoric. Without galactic trade the economy of Earth will at best stagnate but more than likely decline. You do know what stagnate and decline means you dirty space miners? Plus, without immigrants who do you think will do education? Everyone wants to be in Starfleet and not a farmer, Earth needs immigration to do the dirty jobs humans don't want to do.

It's worse. It's ended in what could have been pretty good, but it's done within a frame narrative that completely drains all meaning and feeling out of it for the sake of the frame narrative.
They could have just said the chef was his ancestor, they could have put the chef in without any comment, but they fucking tied it into the frame narrative and botched it so badly as a result.

That's not how I remember it, it seemed to me from TNG that the Alliance was relatively unknown by the Federation, and was only encountered thanks to both of them expanding borders. The Feds weren't even sure what the Ferengi looked like until the official contact in 'The Last Outpost.'

Only season 4 grew on me, the rest is boring. Xindi story was a snoozefest for me. I remember the Borg episode and the Terra Nova one positively. I think they just couldn't come up with good story lines. Even VOY has better concepts for episodes, like Counterpoint, One, Origin, etc.
ENT just didn't have enough alien discoveries, I remember I got intrigued when they met the automated repair station but there is not enough of that shit. I felt like it was starting out as mankind's first exploration of felt galaxy and we always ended up with some stupid malfunction or ambassador of the week.

IMO the main reason it gets so much hate is that it's different in its tone than about everything else. Other series have (to larger degree) the arrogant attitude of
>we in the federation are the smartest, most moral and perfect … if only our enemies didn't have superior technology everything would be as it should
ENT is still positively optimistic, but in a "it's a harsh and dangerous place and we're inadequate and weak, but we'll still go and if we conduct ourself properly, maybe the circumstances will conspire towards a positive outcome" kind of way. A bit like SG. And the point goes for Vulkans too. In ENT they're realistically flawed, TNG explored those flaws by pushing them onto Romulans instead.

Suppressing emotion isn't their nature, it's their culture and at that point in time Surak's "bible" had been lost for millennia, while during TNG it was already well known, so it makes sense that they'd mastered suppressing their emotions better by then. It's just that you're autisticaly clinging the your presuppositions despite the fact that there are no hard facts supporting them.

However botched some of the analogies may be, the original intent is clear. Vulkans are a bit different since constitution of society doesn't follow as straight forwardly as with the others (maybe except the Ferengi, who are just terribly thought out). ENT explores exactly that in S4 and does it pretty well IMO.

The Vulcans are pretty clearly intended to be post-WW2 Japanese. Stoic allies with odd customs and a reputation for logic and intelligence, and a violent past that they've tried to put behind them.
Roddenberry, weirdly enough for a WW2 veteran, quite liked the Japanese and their customs. (His wedding ceremony to Majel Barrett didn't exactly involve a tux and white dress.) Maybe it's because he never actually saw combat and spent his WW2 career entirely within the US.

That's the damn point, part of the appeal of some characters is that they're always mentioned but never seen (and sometimes never heard) onscreen. I'm sure goytropes has an article on the phenomenon.
Also, while it was certainly annoying I don't think anyone claims Riker pretending to be Chef is the worst travesty that the ENT finale completed; there are plenty bigger problems like the retarded plot, the character development from the last season getting a big reset, and Trip's hamfisted death, which was needless and served no purpose besides adding some fake drama to the episode. Riker being Chef is just the irritating little cherry on top.

I am I the only one that hated the fucking utter fan masturbation session that was the Klingon augment virus arc? So much effort for something that could have just as easily been resolved by an studio executive flat out telling whining trek nerds "look, the Klingon simply look and act different from TOS because of advancements in make-up and effect budgets and to make them more distinct from the Romulians. Just use your damn imagination and pretend they always looked like that"
Not to mention the explanation made things even stupider. The TOS Klingons looked and acted like that because were literally part human? That's just fucking lame.

The Klingons certainly should have been down played after the pilot. I think the rather under used Tellarites and Nausicaan would have been far better choices as the baddies in the later Klingon episodes
But frankly they should have *increased* the presence of the Romulians because of the Vulcan connection. In fact ditching the useless temporal cold war idea in favor of the Romulians conducting a prolonged proxy war against the Vulcans and their allies would have been a far very better meta plot subject for the course of the show. Basically turing the plot of the 4th season arc over the course of two entire seasons.
You could have even kept the Sulibans in mostly the same role, but turned them and the Romulians into a dark reflection of the humans and Vulcans. Where the vulcans held back their technology and tried to be mostly hands off earth's development while also trying to keep earth from overreaching before they were ready, the Romulians flat out uplifted the Sulibans, gave them access to all sorts of technology, even genetic augmentations, then pushed them out into the galaxy as soon as possible to serve as fodder so they romulians wouldn't have to risk their own people. And you could use that to develop Archer's character over the seasons as he comes to realize maybe the vulcans wern't quite the total assholes he thought they were.

The Romulans should have been more of a chief antagonist in ENT. The Klingons should have been dismissive of humans as "weak and unimportant". The Earth Romulan War was only 9-10 years into humanities deep space exploration.

Shame they didn't have a child. Greed combined with a complete lack of genuine emotion. Oy Vey.

The implication was always there, and it's an old trope in fantasy that elves or an elvish race compensates their coolish, graceful attitude secretly with a high sex drive .
They sexualised T'Pol too much though. She has no ass and that lube scene from the pilot makes everybody not taking the show seriously.

I guess the ones I saw she was in the shower. With her hair slicked back, looks like she's going bald. It's weird seeing so many women with receding hairlines nowadays.

If there is no drug abuse involved, I doubt that the genetic make up of woman has changed THAT MUCH within the last hundred years…

It's probably just a combination of the garbage most modern processed food is. Even shit that shouldn't need an ingredients list does. I can't buy heavy cream that isn't thickened with something like carageenan or locust bean gum. Shit that comes in a box is even worse. It's filled with all sorts of artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, and soy byproducts. There's also all the pharmaceutical contamination in our drinking water. People give filter man shit, but there really is a lot of garbage allowed to be in our water. That's not even counting fluoride.
So people eat this crap and chub up, so they decode to go on a diet and lose the weight. They cut calories like crazy, and stop getting healthy amounts of protein and vitamins. That makes their body stop wasting protein on things like hair. My mother had weight loss surgery. She lost weight like crazy, but also had her hair thin. When she got down to a healthy weight it eventually came back once things stabilized.
So I don't think it's that surprising once you realize how bad the jew has poisoned us.

She does have a tight little tush. And she'd be easy to bend over one's knees for a firm spanking, too.
