Hi, I hope someone can watch Star Trek with me and then we can rate & discuss.

Here's what I got so far (Format is episode number, rating out of 10, episode name, a brief description & notes with spoilers).

5x01 8/10 Redemption: Part 2 - Tasha Yar's half romulan daughter (Sela) is attempting to aid the Klingon house of Duras, Picard recruits more Federation ships to create a net to detect cloaked romulan ships, Worf is reinstated to his Starfleet position @3:45 Black female fleet admiral

5x02 3/10 Darmok - The Enterprise meets a species who's language can't be translated by the UT, They beam down Picard along with their captain. SF Debris gave this a 9/10 whilst acknowledging that ratings are relative to the series

5x03 7/10 Ensign Ro - The disgraced bajoran Ensign Ro is assigned to the Enterprise, Picard is ordered to track down a bajoran terrorist who attacked a federation colony

5x04 5/10 Silicon Avatar - The Enterprise gives chase to the crystalline entity that destroyed Data's colony

5x05 4/10 Disaster - Ship's systems are disrupted by a spacial anomaly of the week, Picard is stuck in a lift with 3 kids, Worf delivers Keiko's baby, Geordie & Dr. Crusher are stuck in a cargo bay with explosive containers, and Troi is reluctantly in command on the bridge. At the end Picard says "You have the bridge number one" and Riker & the girl both say "Aye sir"

5x06 6/10 The Game - An addictive video game with the power to control minds takes over the crew & Wesley must save the day

5x07 7/10 Unification I - Spock is missing, Picard & Data must go to Romulus to find him

5x08 8/10 Unification II - Spock strives for a reunification of Romulus & Vulcan but he is double crossed by someone working for Sela. Riker physically intimidates a ferengi in to giving him information. Data learning the Vulcan neck pinch was a nice touch

5x09 7/10 A Matter of Time - A historian from the 26th century visits the Enterprise, meanwhile a planet is facing a global natural disaster - What did Star Fleet do with the timeship? SF Debris gave this a 5/10

5x10 4/10 New Ground - Worf has trouble with his son Alexandra, meanwhile the Enterprise helps test a new form of propulsion called a soliton wave which threatens to destroy a planet

5x11 3/10 Hero Worship - Data rescues a boy from a damaged research ship, & the boy begins to imitate Data, meanwhile the Enterprise encounters an anomaly

5x12 3/10 Violations - Some psychics aboard cause Troi & Riker to fall in to comas, forgettable episode

5x13 3/10 The Masterpiece Society - The Enterprise finds a planet with human genetically engineered colonists that's heading for disaster @14:20 Picard says genetic engineering was a bad idea whose time has long passed @43:40 It's mentioned that the prime directive doesn't apply to humans. This episode is much wasted opportunity, we could have had a multi part episode with the augments taking over the ship similar to the Enterprise episode with Brent Spinner

5x14 6/10 Conundrum - The crew's memory is erased & the computer's memory altered to indicate they are at war with the Lysians. Troi beats Data at 3D chess

5x15 5/10 Power Play - The bodies of Troy, Data, & O'Brien are taken over by aliens during an away mission. This is one of the episodes where Brent Spiner gets to show his range. @12:00 is when Data angrily hits the computer screen BSOD.gif

>5x12 3/10 Violations - Some psychics aboard cause Troi & Riker to fall in to comas, forgettable episode

Isn't that the one where the guy mind rapes Troi then tries to blame it on his own father? Not the greatest episode, but I wouldn't call it forgettable.

But Wesley doesn't save the day, Data does.

Is she from the game? She looked great in it.

True but Data couldn't have done anything had Wesley not repaired him.

>Is she from the game? She looked great in it.

Yeah she's pretty hot.

5x16 7/10 Ethics - Worf breaks his spine in a freak accident involving cargo containers & asks Riker to assist him in a Klingon suicide ritual @0:44 Geordi explains he saw through the cards during a poker game & tells Worf to bring a deck of cards that's not transparent to infrared light. This episode really strikes a chord with me as I am very severely physically disabled and have seriously contemplated suicide. As a sci-fi episode it only deserves a 4/10 but with it's philosophical value it's a 7 maybe an 8. SF Debris also gave this a 7/10. I can't understand why Dr. Crusher was so against experimental treatment, she came off as a real bitch.

> I can't understand why Dr. Crusher was so against experimental treatment

It's been a couple of years, but I think Crusher was injecting less to the idea of experimental treatment and more to the idea of the other doctor using patients as impromptu test subjects for her own pet theories. In that sense you could argue she was putting patients at greater risk for her own personal benefit; which while not quite a violation of the Hippocratic Oath if the patient consents, it's definitely toeing the line.

5x17 8/10 The Outcast - Riker falls for a member of a species that no longer has gender. The way they brainwash Soren at the end is very reminiscent of how gays & transgenders were treated in the past. 8/10 for the social commentary otherwise only a 4/10. @16:50 Dr. Crusher says neither gender are considered superior @18:00 Troi mentions the Federation was founded in 2161 which was honoured in the last episode of Enterprise. SF Debris only gave this a 3/10.

>8/10 for the social commentary

Why exactly? The social commentary was more than a little preachy and came off as forced, especially the soggyknees bit during the poker game.

The funny part is, that they don't show any evidence, that the treatment isn't what they claim it is. If you didn't know the political stance of the writers, the episodes message could be interpreted as: Transexuality is a mental desease that can and should be cured.

That's always the message I got out of it. 'She' doesn't seem like she was manipulated or anything at the end. She seems like she genuinely felt and was an androgyne 'it.'

5x18 3/10 Cause and Effect - The Enterprise gets caught in a time loop

5x19 7/10 The First Duty - Wesley & his fellow cadets attempt a dangerous maneuver which left 1 dead. This episode establishes that Wesley is not a Mary-Sue.

5x20 2/10 Cost of Living - Lwaxana Troi is set to get married meanwhile the Enterprise is threatened by parasites which cause goo to come out of ship's systems

5x21 2/10 The Perfect Mate - The Enterprise carries an emphatic metamorph who is arranged to be married to a leader to bring peace to two worlds. There was no excitement in this episode, they could have had the crew fighting over the woman like with the orion slave girls in that episode of Enterprise (ENT 4x17).

5eaa5a No.26169

5x22 5/10 Imaginary Friend - An energy being poses as a little girl's friend & perceives her treatment by adults as cruel

5x23 7/10 I, Borg - An away team find an injured Borg drone & beam it aboard. @9:28 Beverly says even in war there are rules, you don't kill civilians indiscriminately, Riker replies "There are no civilians among the Borg". 7/10 for debating genocide against the borg. Guinan had some good scenes. SF Debris gave this episode an 8/10

5x24 5/10 The Next Phase - Geordi & Ensign Ro are displaced out of phase by a transporter accident & are assumed dead. Ro mentions the afterlife at the end & says she was arrogant not to believe. I wonder what Roddenberry would think of her view on religion.

>every single Trek episode needs to fill X quota of sci-fi

>an episode about learning to understand an alien language is not sci.fi

are you autistic? By that logic Balance of Terror is hardly a sci-fi episode as well since it's just two ships stalking each other.

5x25 9/10 The Inner Light - The Enterprise encounters an alien probe from a long dead civilization which forces Picard to live the final years of one of it's inhabitants. This episode has a special place in my heart. It reminds me that our civilization will die some day, it makes me sad to think that everything we care about will be destroyed one day & forgotten forever. It makes me ask questions like what will be left of humanity in a billion years time. SF Debris gave this a 10/10.
