I've been there. The only solution is to login when they're offline and then remove and block them and stay away from the sims they frequent for a couple of months. FYI if you login through the website you can see who is online on your friend list without revealing yourself. Just wait until they've been logged off for like 30 minutes then give them the ol' remove n' block.

SL is hella time-consuming when everyone is semi-idle and a conversation will take hours. I've had too much irl work to do. Also seems I've made the mistake of only making friends with people who don't do much besides bone. SL is really interesting but not many feel like shooting the shit often. My good friends all seem to be in the worst timezones as well.
