Very inaccurate.
Pyrrha, as a character, represents the type of person who has been told for their entire life that they're special, they're skilled, they're talented. The exact opposite of Jaune, who has been at the very bottom of the totem pole for his whole life. And here's the thing: she can actually back it up. She took that to heart, and worked as hard as possible. I imagine that, as a child, she was even quite arrogant at one point. But as she got older, she started to realize that her accomplishments were the only thing that distinguished her.
When she reached Beacon, she met Jaune - her exact opposite, who didn't even recognize her. She enjoyed that about him, and saw something in him that nobody else had.
And through that, we learn more about her. She was the person to basically carry JNPR on her shoulders, as Qrow puts it. She also had a great deal of potential to become a person of great power - so much so that, after just her first year at Beacon, the Inner Circle decided to entrust her with its greatest secrets.
Now, a word on the phrase Mary Sue: A Mary Sue is an author insert, first and foremost. They have no defining personality of their own. Most importantly, they are the character in the leading role, getting the most attention and audience focus. They are the ideal role to be filled.
Except Pyrrha had more to her than that. When offered greater power, and upon learning the secrets being kept from people, she was terrified - she didn't leap at the opportunity. She still had her old motivations, and more than that, she actually had people she cared about. And because of that, she acted too late, and Cinder was able to kill Amber and take her powers.
Her death has been planned since the beginning, of course - I imagine if we could see Monty's story bible, that would be fairly clear. And there's a reason for that: If she were to stay alive, she would outshine the rest of the main cast, excepting the adults. Her death acts as a catalyst, giving the rest of JNPR a purpose of fighting, and acting as the final trigger for Ruby to show her own powers - thus preventing her death from being in vain.
So sure, you could call her a Mary Sue - if your dream life is to have no friends, finally find some, and then be forced to give them up on the off-chance of helping them, only to die with an arrow in the chest.
Beyond all of this, her death also leaves the possibility for involvement from her family, people who knew of her fame back in Mistral, and so on.

Stop. You're just flooding yourself with shitty terms and phrases rather than actually familiarizing yourself with genre conventions. It's like using TGWTG as a way to become familiar with critical film terminology.
To use a better term, Pyrrha dying represents what is known in fiction as the first turning point. Season One (V1-3) acts as first act, and provide exposition for the show, familiarizing us with the characters. More will appear, of course - but they're not the ones we're really concerned with. They're just side-characters and antagonists at best.
More appropriately, Pyrrha dying is part of the first turning point, along with the fall of Beacon, Ozpin going missing, and everything going to shit. Prior to that, she acts as mentor to Jaune, and helper to Team RWBY. Of course, as this is an ensemble cast, there are quite a bit of elements to take into account - hence the reason why using singular definitions is very inaccurate here.
As for Jaune, he's not a self-insert either: He's an audience surrogate. He doesn't know anything about aura, semblance, and the rest, at the start of the series. It needs to be explained to him by Pyrrha, just as it needs to be explained to us as the audience. We aren't supposed to put ourselves in the role of Jaune, but instead to use his dumbass as a way to understand what is actually happening in the show.
Of course, Jaune actually understands shit now, just as we do. And we don't need an audience surrogate any more. From here on out, the characters know no more than the audience. Which is part of the reason Ruby is getting back in the spotlight, as at this point, we can follow her and understand the events happening on screen. Of course, Jaune tagging along doesn't hurt, just in case something comes up.
I just hope that this also means an end to World of Remnant - or, at the very least, the way it is now. I certainly wouldn't mind the use of separate narrators for each Kingdom.
For instance, Roman could narrate one on Vale, while Pyrrha narrated Mistral, and Penny narrated Atlas. Those would be so much fun.

I'm pretty sure volume 3 is the lowest point the heroes are going to be at in the entire series, so anything could be better by comparison. They got their shit wrecked and now they're going on a more upbeat revenge journey.
But volume 4 certainly isn't going to be the highest point in the series that comes when the Atlas military napalms Grimm-occupied Beacon while Fortunate Son blares in the background.

I've finally worked out why Season 3 works better.
At least from the voice acting.
They had more scenes where they had to emote and talk like people (due to the serious nature of the scenes), instead of anime characters. And it worked in their favor.

Not the Jaune and Ruby can't connect.
Ruby was an amateur who suddenly had skill far above her level. Jaune is someone eveyone expects highly of, but he's a fuck up.
After this season Ruby is now the one people expect stuff from- the Silver Eyes. Does she have the mental maturity to handle it. Sure she's naive and would jump at anything to help people, but can she deal with the pressure and stress? Meanwhile, Jaune is going to get a trial by fire (traveling with JNRR) to see if he's not a fuck up. Both characters are moving in opposite directions, and are now equals, in their own ways.
Ruby and Jaune will develop a deeper friendship sure, maybe even Jaune will give advice to Ruby.

Other than giving Sun another team-mate for the tournament, Neptune had a fling with Weiss, which helped Jaune get his girl.
I can't see him getting over his perpetual comic fuck-up syndrone, as we know NOTHING else to build upon it. And anything introduced to be resolved in season 4 would feel cheap.
Unless the gang gets trapped in a water-based problem, and we learn why neptune is afraid of the water, there's no way to naturally develop him without nailing it into the plot as a side-note.

Neptune was there to ruin any within rwby shippers dreams and to be like a successful Jaune a.k.a someone who can actually pull off what Jaune tries to do to be cool the pick up lines etc but can't dance kek. He still seems like a minor character there even when compared to sun. Hell sun is probably more important because he keeps trying to go after that puss and failing(mostly). Yes that was intentional. He will most likely be the one to help Blake past her problems with a lot of yang's help ofc.

But if they were to do that, they would have to be extremely careful and make sure his death is honorable (like saving Nora in the process or something) to avoid the asshurt it would produce because of stupid reasons that don't need to be explained.
Ren being killed off would make Nora a bit more serious and toned down, realizing the gravity of the situation. Her continuing to be her CUHRAYZEE self wouldn't fit well with the tone they're trying to go with.

Either way, I hope that RT will introduce us to new characters who happened to take part in the tournament off-screen. We've been shown a total of 15 four-man-teams (Please take note that this number includes teams where only one (the first round jobber and the pretty boy finalists) or two (FNKI and Penny's team) of it's members are known. As well as Cinder's team despite the fact that they posed as students.) during this arc. Which means that they could potentially come up with 17 teams worth of entirely new characters that they could just tell the fans that they participated in the third volume's tournament.

I can't see Ren and Nora being killed off. Seriously injured sure, but Jaune hasn't actually interacted with them enough to make him losing the worth anything. Not to mention killing off the character Monty used to voice might be a sore spot.

So I seen the final two episodes of season three…
Darker… Yet darker… Will this even continue to be more darker? I felt sad that Roman ~Gingerbloke~ Torchwick died off liked it was nothing to be replaced by Edgelord Fuccboi Adam (Which he is somewhat okay) other than that, pretty enjoyable.
