Ex-Hassan aide charged with privacy theft reaches plea deal

WASHINGTON — A former aide to Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-NH, has reached an undisclosed plea deal with federal prosecutors on the felony charges that he posted information about Republican senators last fall during the hearings on Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination.

Jackson Cosko, 27, was charged with publishing restricted personal information, witness tampering, threats in interstate communications, unauthorized access of a government computer, identity theft, second-degree burglary and unlawful entry.

He was asked by Hassan to resign earlier last year for “failing to follow office procedures,” according to a spokesman.

Cosko had worked in Hassan’s office from January 2017 to May 2018 as a legislative correspondent and systems administrator.

At the time of his arrest, Cosko was caught in Hassan’s Washington office using staff computers there without permission, law enforcement officials said.

When Cosko was arrested, he was an intern in the office of Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas. He was fired from Lee’s office after his arrest.

According to court documents in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., Judge Thomas F. Hogan canceled a status conference set for Thursday because the parties reached a deal behind the scenes.

Hogan set April 5 as the date to hold a hearing on the terms of that plea agreement.

Last January, Hogan approved Cosko’s release on personal recognizance bail but required he undergo high intensity supervision by the U.S. Marshals Office.

The terms of that supervision required he not possess any guns and that he submit to random drug testing if asked.

Brian W. Stolarz, one of Cosko’s lawyers, wrote in a motion earlier this month his client was “progressing significantly in his treatment.”

“The parties are in discussions to resolve the case and require additional time for that purpose,” Stolarz wrote on March 12.

The information that Cosko is charged with posting included phone numbers and home addresses for three Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee at the hearing: Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Sen. Mike Lee of Utah and Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah.

Investigators say other senators may have been targeted.

A court affidavit that described the government’s case said Cosko entered Hassan’s office late last Oct. 2, started working on computers without being allowed, and was caught by two staff members.

The federal charges of threats and witness tampering stem from an email Cosko was charged with sending to a Hassan staffer shortly after the incident.

“The email was titled, ‘I own everything,’” according to the sworn statement by a Capitol Police investigator. “The body of the email stated, ‘If you tell anyone, I will leak it all … emails, Signal conversations, senators’ children’s health information and socials.”

Signal is a popular message application and “socials” is a reference to Social Security numbers.

DCI uncovers human trafficking racket in Eastleigh

By LABAN WANAMBISI, NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 31 – Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested two suspects on suspicion of being part of a racket that is involved in making false travel documents.

Kellyanne Conway Suggests That Obama Could Have Used Microwaves to Spy on Trump

It’s now been over a week since President Trump claimed that former president Obama wiretapped Trump Tower during the 2016 campaign. Trump hasn’t offered any proof of the right-wing conspiracy theory, though that didn’t stop him from demanding that Congress investigate the matter. Representatives of Obama have denied the allegations, and no Republican lawmakers or Trump administration officials have been willing to get behind the president’s claims — except for, it seems, senior adviser Kellyanne Conway.

In an interview with the Bergen County Record, Conway suggested that Obama’s supposed “surveillance” of Trump may have been something much more than a simple wiretap:

“What I can say is there are many ways to surveil each other,” Conway said as the Trump presidency marked its 50th day in office during the weekend. “You can surveil someone through their phones, certainly through their television sets — any number of ways.” Conway went on to say that the monitoring could be done with “microwaves that turn into cameras,” adding: “We know this is a fact of modern life.”

Like her boss, Conway didn’t provide anything to corroborate her statements. Meanwhile, the House Intelligence Committee has asked that any evidence of the president’s wiretapping assertion be submitted by Monday. That request seems unlikely to be met, but if it is, keep an eye on the microwaves.

Zuzana Caputova was declared the victor in Slovakia's presidential election early Sunday to become the nation's first female president.

Radio Free Europe reported Saturday that Caputova, a liberal and environmental lawyer, took about 58.4 percent of the vote compared to 41.6 percent won by Maros Sefcovic, an independent candidate backed by the current ruling Direction-Social Democracy (Smer-SD) party.

The 2016 CDC guidelines on opioid prescription in chronic pain — and misdirected doctor persecutions carried out by the Drug Enforcement Agency — are responsible for driving a significant number of Physicians out of Family Medicine and Pain Management practice and denying pain relief to people in agony ( The CDC does not collect suicide data specific to the denial of pain treatment or intentional suicides) Several case reports show that deserted patients have committed suicide because of provider abandonment, unrelenting pain, rapid opioid tapers, or a combination of all three.

Government bureaucrats have been informed repeatedly of their errors in public media. But they are passively refusing to do anything to correct them.

Multiple published studies and over 1.6 million patients maintained on doses over 200 MMED, reported by the Department of Health and Human Services in their 2017 Drug Outcomes Surveillance Report disprove the CDC & CDC's Guidelines's claim that RX opioid pain relievers don’t work for long term management of severe pain. The CDC & CDC Guidelines also claim that safe and effective non-pharmaceutical alternatives for pain management exist and are preferable to opioids. Details of a major outcomes study of the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality conclusiely disproves this obsurd claim, even while asserting that unproven non-opioid therapies should be tried as substitutes for proven opioid analgesics!

Was the Opioid Crisis Created by Over Prescription?

Published data of the CDC itself disprove this assertion.  When State by State rates of doctor prescriptions for opioid pain relievers are compared to rates of opioid overdose related mortality, we find no relationship at all.  Any contribution by medically managed opioids is so small that it gets lost in the noise of illegal street drugs that include opioids from licit and illicit sources, with or without other sedative hypnotics including alcohol.

If prescription opioids were substantially contributing to opioid-related deaths, then we should see higher mortality rates in groups which use more prescriptions.  But this doesn’t happen, as seen in Analysis of US Opoid Mortality and ER Visit Data [CDC Wonder and AHRQ HCUP-US Databases.  Opioid-related deaths among youth and young adults have skyrocketed since 2001, largely because of illicit fentanyl. But opioid deaths from all sources among people over 50 have been stable.  Seniors are prescribed opioids about 250% more often than teens. Thus, the group that benefited most from liberalized prescribing policies of the early 2000’s has shown no increased mortality due to opioid drugs from all sources as seen in the link immediately above.

“Unlike tolerance and physical dependence, addiction is not a predictable result of opioid prescribing. Addiction occurs in only a small percentage of persons who are exposed to opioids — even among those with pre-existing vulnerabilities… Older medical texts and several versions of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) either overemphasized the role of tolerance and physical dependence in the definition of addiction or equated these processes (DSM-III and DSM-IV). However, more recent studies have shown that the molecular mechanisms underlying addiction are distinct from those responsible for tolerance and physical dependence, in that they evolve much more slowly, last much longer, and disrupt multiple brain processes.”

Are Safe and Reliable Substitutes for Opioids Available?

While it is appropriate for doctors to try non-opioid medications first before proceeding to opioid therapy, anti-inflammatory drugs have their own problems and side effects mostly related to gastrointestinal bleed, kidney dysfunction, and cardiac risk. Additionally, there are inherent toxicities and contraindication to all medications, including but not limited to various anticonvulsants, noradrenergic reuptake inhibitors such as certain antidepressants, anticonvulsants, skeletal muscle relaxants, and others.

In June 2018, the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality published a systematic outcomes review for non-invasive, non-pharmacological therapies in chronic pain.  Among 4996 published trial reports for six categories of chronic pain, only 218 survived rigorous quality review.  Quality of medical evidence was “weak” in more than 150. .  However, AHRQ flinched from admitting the basic problem of the “alternatives” literature:  none of the alternatives has undergone large scale Phase II or Phase III trials.  Though most appear safe, we don’t know yet if they work any better than placebo.

California Playboy Model (25) Arrested For ‘Sugar Daddy’ (71) Murder

Three weeks ago, on March 7 to be exact, Nevada police officers were notified that a suspicious vehicle with broken window was parked near Lake Mead, the largest artificial lake in the US.. In the trunk of the car, they found the lifeless body of 71-year-old Mr Thomas Burchard, a renowned child psychiatrist. He appeared to have been killed by a slap on the forehead with a blunt object.

The man in question, Greg Hagio, had previously been arrested for domestic violence and a strangulation attempt.
