Goldstone first became involved with the Trumps in 2013 while representing Azerbaijani pop star Emin Agalarov. Goldstone and Agalarov came up with the idea of Trump's Miss Universe pageant being held in Moscow that year and they helped plan it. On June 3, 2016, five months before the US presidential election, Agalarov asked Goldstone to set up a meeting between the Trumps and a "well-connected Russian attorney" in New York. "Emin told me that the attorney had potentially damaging information about questionable funding by Russians to support the Democrats and, by extension, their candidate Hillary Clinton," Goldstone wrote in his book.
Goldstone thought it was a bad idea to set up the meeting, but still tapped out an embellished email to Trump Jr. The email stated how the "Crown Prosecutor of Russia" met with Emin's father Aras and "offered to provide the Trump Campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father". That email would become a central piece in what some believed was proof of collusion between Putin and the Trump campaign. "If it's what you say, I love it," Trump Jr wrote back to Goldstone.
The June 9, 2016, meeting between Trump Jr, his brother-in-law Jared Kushner and then campaign chairman Paul Manafort with Russians, including lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, went ahead in a Trump Tower boardroom.
Goldstone was present. It was a fizzer, according to Goldstone, with Veselnitskaya doing a "bait and switch" and using it instead to attempt to persuade the Trumps to overturn the Obama-era Magnitsky Act designed to punish Russian officials. There was no transfer of Clinton dirt files and a disinterested Manafort rarely took his eyes of his phone during the meeting, Goldstone said. Goldstone can't say if there was Trump-Russia collusion because he says he was just a small piece of a "huge jigsaw puzzle".

And you need them to fit together in a way that makes you feel something, that tugs at your heartstrings, that makes you feel excited or peaceful or nostalgic.
Songwriting is an art. I know this because I’ve done it myself. I’ve written dozens of songs over the years. I’ve even earned a gold and a platinum record. I know firsthand how small the royalties are, even when your song is a success. It’s time to change that. And the Music Modernization Act will do so.
The heart of the bill is the creation of a mechanical licensing collective to administer reproduction and distribution rights for digital music. One of the driving forces in recent years of the decline in songwriter royalties has been the transition to digital music. This may seem a bit surprising, as one might think that the availability of millions of songs at the click of mouse would lead to more royalties, given that more music than ever before is now available instantaneously.
But the problem is that these big digital music companies, like Pandora and Spotify, with their catalogs of millions of songs, simply don’t have the capability to find every single songwriter for every single one of their songs. Tracking down the recording artist—that is, the singer—usually can be done. But finding songwriters is a different story.
And so the bill creates a mechanical licensing collective that is tasked with identifying songwriters, matching them to sound recordings, and then ensuring that the songwriter actually gets paid. Importantly, this collective will be run by songwriters themselves and by their representatives in the publishing community.
This is an enormous victory for songwriters. For the first time in history, songwriters and their representatives will be in charge of making sure they get paid when their songs get played.
Now, this is not the only thing the bill does, not by a long shot. It also changes the rate standard for reproduction and distribution rights, to ensure that songwriters get paid a fair market rate. And it provides important protections to digital music companies. It creates a blanket digital license for companies like Pandora and Spotify so that they can have certainty that they won’t be sued when they offer songs for download or interactive streaming. It also provides a liability shield against past infringement provided certain conditions are met, again so that digital music companies can have certainty going forward.
The Music Modernization Act also makes important changes to performance rights. It creates a federal performance right for pre-72 sound recordings and moves our licensing laws away from the patchwork of inconsistent state laws and toward a more uniform, coherent federal standard. It ends the rate carve-out that legacy cable and satellite providers have enjoyed for two decades that has allowed them to pay below-market rates and stave off meaningful competition. This will result in fairer rates for recording artists and create a more level playing field for new market entrants.
The bill also provides that rate proceedings for performance rights will rotate amongjudges and that judges may consider sound recording royalty rates when setting corresponding rates for musical works. And it makes a clear statement that the Department of Justice should work with Congress to ensure there is a proper framework in place to administer performance rights for musical works in the event the Department decides it’s time to sunset the ASCAP and BMI consent decrees.
Lastly, the bill puts in place a formal process for producers, sound engineers, and other behind-the-scenes players to receive a share of performance royalties. This will help ensure that all of the participants in the music-making process are fairly compensated for their contributions."

Credico testified before a federal grand jury convened by special counsel Robert Mueller earlier this month, and the subpoena calls on him to turn over any documents he has to Mueller's team or the FBI. Federal investigators on Mueller's team predominantly focused on Credico’s relationship with Stone, he said after the testimony, declining to disclose the substance of the interview. Credico also denied he was a back-channel between Stone and WikiLeaks during the presidential campaign.
Stone told the House Intelligence Committee last year that Credico was his “intermediary” between him and Assange during the 2016 presidential campaign. Then, in a Facebook post in November, Stone confirmed that Credico was his WikiLeaks contact — but defended his hesitation to reveal his name to the House panel.''' "The Committee is wasting their time. He merely confirmed what Assange had said publicly," Stone wrote. "Credico never said he knew or had any information as to source or content of the material Mr. Credico never said he confirmed this information with Mr. Assange himself. Mr. Stone knew Credico had his own sources within WikiLeaks and is credible. Credico turned out to be 100 % accurate." Seems like everyone is questioning the Clinton's handling of funds, whether it is the Haiti donor funds or the millions their foundation accepted from foreign governments. These hot-button questions just won't go away and will dog this "inevitable" democratic candidate.
The Clinton's are as toxic a choice for the democrats as they were in 2008. Makes one think that the democrats are not in it to win it. The discussion may just be academic though because, the last time voters elected a Democrat to the White House after a president from the same party had just served a full term? The last time was 159 years ago in 1856, before the Civil War.

It is not clear if incoming President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, a leftist and NAFTA critic, would support the deal as written. But last year, when Rosenstein's name surfaced as a possible court nominee, Maryland's Democratic Sens. Barbara A. Mikulski and Paul S. Sarbanes said Rosenstein lacked experience.
The decision to nominate Rosenstein rests with the White House, which declined to comment yesterday. The Senate must confirm nominations to federal courts.
"Rod Rosenstein is doing a good job as the U.S. attorney in Maryland, and that's where we need him," Mikulski said yesterday through a spokeswoman. "The White House should look at Maryland's federal bench for experienced jurists who have already passed the Senate with bipartisan support."
Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin's office did not respond to requests for comment.
Mikulski and Sarbanes blocked a previous Bush appointee to the Richmond Va.-based 4th circuit, considered the nation's most conservative appellate court. The court, which covers Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and North and South Carolina, has five vacancies.
Last week, Bush made two nominations, and experts say the administration is in a rush to retain the court's conservative reputation before the 2008 election.
It is unclear how politics will play out if Rosenstein is nominated, but without backing from Maryland's senators, confirmation would be difficult, said Carl Tobias, the Williams Professor at the University of Richmond School of Law.
"If someone is not a consensus nominee who the home state senators favor and are willing to push, a Democratic Senate is not inclined to confirm them," he said.
Those close to Rosenstein, who in law school was a member of the Federalist Society, say political ideology should not be a factor in the decision.
"My experience is good lawyers, whatever their political persuasion, make good judges," said Mark H. Tuohey, a Democrat, who worked with Rosenstein in 1995 on the Starr legal team. "This appointment should not be based on ideological grounds."
Tuohey said the Justice Department contacted him about Rosenstein a couple of weeks ago and said the prosecutor is a terrific choice for the federal bench. The FBI vetting process was first reported in yesterday's Washington Post.
"He impressed me with his judgment, his sense of fairness, his scholarship and lawyering skills," Tuohey said. "I think he has done very good work through his career and will continue to do good work."
Rosenstein, reached at his home yesterday, declined to comment.
Baltimore State's Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy, who said she was contacted about Rosenstein's possible nomination, credited the prosecutor with increasing cooperation with local law enforcement. "He has been in the trenches," she said. "I think that's a good thing."
Gansler called the prosecutor, "somebody who really wants to do the right thing for the right reasons."
"He wants to be sure that justice is served," Gansler said. "Not necessarily to get convictions or the harshest sentences. He calls 'em like he sees 'em, in accordance to the law."

Special counsel Robert Mueller could see significant changes to the way his Russia investigation operates if President Trump were to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein or if he were to resign, according to close observers of the Justice Department. The question suddenly became relevant this week after it became clear that Rosenstein offered to resign following a report said he was mulling a coup against Trump. The two men are expected to meet Thursday to clear the air about the reports that Rosenstein might be dismissed, but the possibility he might still be let go has some worried that the change could prove to be significant for Mueller's investigation.
Rosenstein oversees the Mueller investigation into whether President Trump's campaign colluded with Russia to defeat Hillary Clinton. And while Mueller's work would continue without Rosenstein, some say it has the potential to be altered, depending on who takes over. The next person in line for that job is Solicitor General Noel Francisco, a Trump appointee confirmed last year in the Senate by a party vote. Francisco is a known conservative lawyer that worked in the George W. Bush administration, as well as in the private sector. Jeffrey Cramer, a former federal prosecutor, told the Washington Examiner that Francisco “is a not a fan of independent counsel type investigations," and could find ways to limit Mueller's work. "At the end of his efforts, Mueller could produce a report” to Francisco, said Cramer. “Legally, the [person overseeing Mueller] could do anything he wants with the report. There would be tremendous political pressure to make the report public to some level.” Francisco or anyone else overseeing Mueller would also continue to exert power of decisions such as indictments and search warrants, Cramer explained, so decisions to approve or not approve those actions could change.
Federal guidelines make it clear that whoever replaces Rosenstein could find ways to adjust the way Mueller works. Those guidelines say the special counsel "shall not be subject to the day-to-day supervision of any official of the department." But those same guidelines also say his replacement "may request that the Special Counsel provide an explanation for any investigative or prosecutorial step, and may after review conclude that the action is so inappropriate or unwarranted under established departmental practices that it should not be pursued.” The replacement can also rein in the investigation by disciplinary action for "misconduct and breach of ethical duties under the same standards and to the same extent as are other employees" of the Justice Department, according to the guidelines. If Francisco recuses himself from the Mueller investigation, Steve Engel, who heads the department’s Office of Legal Counsel, is the next in line. Engel served in the Justice Department during the George W. Bush administration and clerked for Judge Alex Kozinski, who stepped down from his post in December amid sexual misconduct allegations.
If it's Engel, he would have the same flexibility as Francisco to alter Mueller's work. One observer said the nature of Rosenstein's dismissal could affect how Mueller's investigation proceeds.
