Evacuations are underway on Sunday after a massive wildfire broke out in Los Angeles amid a blistering October heat wave.

Temperatures soared into the triple digits this weekend, and the winds began kicking up on Sunday.

According to CAL Fire, the “Bouquet Fire” broke out on Saturday afternoon in the Angeles National Forest to the east of Santa Clarita.

“This is a lawful order to leave now. The area is lawfully closed to public access,” LA County said of the affected area:

President Trump Calls for Mandatory Prison Sentences for Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security Fraudsters – Says Crooked Politicians Who Cover It Up Must Face Real Consequences

President Donald Trump is calling on Congress to finally put real teeth behind the government’s war on fraud, mandatory prison sentences for criminals caught stealing from Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

In a video released Saturday, Trump demanded legislation establishing mandatory minimum sentences for fraudsters who loot the federal programs millions of Americans depend on.

Under Trump’s proposal, probation would no longer be an option for covered fraud offenses.

“Today, I’m calling on Congress to pass legislation to address fraud in Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security programs,” Trump said.

“First, Congress must impose mandatory minimum sentences on fraudsters who steal from critical benefit programs designed to take care of the sick, feed the hungry, care for our children, and protect our senior citizens’ retirements.”

“Under our proposal, probation is no longer an option for the fraudsters. If you steal from the American people, you will go to prison and for a long period of time. And the more you steal, the longer you’ll stay in that prison,” he said. “If you’re a convicted fraudster who gets caught stealing from the American people a second time, your sentence will be doubled.”

Then he went after the politicians.

“Second, Congress must make sure that crooked and corrupt politicians who willfully turn a blind eye to fraud finally face real consequences,” Trump said.

“Under our proposal,if a state or local politician knows about fraud and has the ability to stop it, but does nothing about it, they can be personally liable for the full loss of the American taxpayers’ moneythat they should have stopped and they should have saved.”

The White House published the president’s announcement Saturday under the title “Minimum Sentences on Fraudsters.”

One 2026 Justice Department operation charged 455 defendants tied to more than $6.5 billion in alleged false claims, CRBC News reported.

House Republicans, according to Fox News, have been pushing a package of Medicaid-fraud bills afterwarnings that improper payments in federal health programs are running into the hundreds of billions.Rep. Jodey Arrington has described the losses as roughly $1 million a minute.

Nowhere has the rot been more obvious than Minnesota.

The Gateway Pundit has reported for months on the Medicaid and welfare schemes that flourished under Governor Tim Walz.

In January, CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz ordered a full federal audit of Minnesota Medicaid billings and told Walz fraudulent claims would be clawed back, after state programs were tied to more than $1 billion in suspected theft.

In April, The Gateway Pundit reported that Abdirashid Said, the lead defendantin an $11 million personal-care-assistant Medicaid scheme, fled the country before trial after a Hennepin County judge let him keep his passport on a $150,000 bond.

In May, legal scholar John Yoo told Fox News that Minnesota officials who knew money was moving to terrorist-linked networks could face prison for material support.

In June, Vice President JD Vance referred Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison to the Justice Department’s fraud division after a House Oversight reportsaid senior officials had credible fraud warnings as early as 2019 and still kept the money flowing, including in the $250 million Feeding Our Future case, where state officials kept paying for months after flagging deficiencies.

In September, The Gateway Pundit reported that a longtime associate of Democratic Senate candidate Peggy Flanagan was running an autism center the state had already kicked off Medicaid.

For months, the fake news cartel and woke agitators across the sports landscape have done nothing but smear, lie about, andvilify the millions of patriotic basketball fans who tune in to support Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.

Now, the leadership in Indianapolis is finally speaking out and setting the record straight! Indiana Fever Chief Operating Officer andGeneral Manager Amber Cox finally came out swinging Saturday in defense of the team’s massive and fiercely loyal fanbaseafter months of attacks and sweeping accusations from critics inside and outside the WNBA.

At Saturday’s end-of-season availability in Indianapolis, Cox read a prepared statement thanking theFever fan base and calling out the smear campaign that has followed Caitlin Clark’s crowds from Gainbridge Fieldhouse to the road.

According to OutKick, Cox said the attacks “have no basis in reality, and they need to stop, especially with members of the media,” and she was not talking about the reporters in the room. She meant the ones “who have never been to a game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.”

Cox did not pretend every spectator is an angel. She said every organization in pro sports, “all the way down to youth rec leagues,” deals with occasional bad behavior, and anyone who crosses the line in an arena or online “needs to be held accountable.” Then she dropped the number the narrative merchants keep skipping.

“We did not have one fan pointed out by a player who violated the WNBA Code of Conduct this season. Not one fan was removed from a game,” Cox said, according to the Indianapolis Star. She said that claim is backed by the team’s security stats and by the crowds the organization actually hosts.

Cox said fans from all 50 states and 57 countries have attended Fever home games and that more than 35% of the crowd comes from outside Indiana.

“We have the best fans in the league,” Cox said.

“Our fans love this team. They’re going to cheer, they’re going to boo, and sometimes they might point,” she added. “It’s a home-court advantage for a reason.”

In other words: Welcome to sports.

Fans cheer. Fans boo. Fans disagree with calls. Fans point at players. None of that automatically constitutes harassment or grounds for throwing paying customers out of an arena.

She also put the ratings on the table. Fever fans, she said, delivered 14 of the top 15 WNBA broadcasts this year, including some of the largest audiences the league has ever had.

The only top-drawing broadcast that did not include the Fever was the All-Star Game, and that game still had three Fever All-Star starters.

“Our fans love this team. They’re going to cheer, they’re going to boo, and sometimes they might point. It’s a home court advantage for a reason, and it’s the same for the Pacers. And all of that is within the code of conduct,” Cox said.

She closed with the line the league’s activists hate: Fever games have always been about inclusivity, sports are the ultimate unifier, and everyone is welcome. “Go Fever.”

Asked why she felt the need to say it, Cox pointed straight at the playoff series. Narratives around the fan base “just frankly are not true,” she said.

Night after night, she walks out to roughly 17,000 people spending hard-earned money, including kids being inspired by the team. Painting that crowd with a broad brush, she said, is not fair.

Prestigious, selective, and predominantly liberal Stanford Universityis witnessing a Catholic revival “as a growing share of Gen Z students embrace the 2,000-year-old faith,”the California Post reported Sunday.

Stanford, known for its formidable list of high intellect and successful alumni, has seen a three-fold increase in Catholic converts, Fr. Bart Hutcherson, pastor of the Catholic Community at the school, told the Post.

Located just 30 miles south of San Francisco, the exclusive university has graduated 13 Nobel Prize winners, 4 Supreme Court justices, and founders of Internet and Silicon Valley tech firms, including Google, Netflix, Yahoo, and Hewlett-Packard.

A total of 46 adults entered the church at Easter this year, up from 14 the previous year, he said, with regular masses packed with hundreds of other young Catholics in recent months.

While the number 46 may not seem large in astudent population of over 17,000, it is an “astonishing turnaround” at an institution that averaged just four adult baptisms annually for about three decades, he explained.

“There is, not just at Stanford, a sense of recovery of tradition and what beauty teaches us about God,” Fr. Hutcherson told the Post.“It’s very, very exciting.”

According to the news outlet:

Hutcherson said he’s sought to make Stanford’s ministries more welcoming to students after he was appointed pastor roughly three years ago. The Catholic-curious coeds are drawn to traditional forms of worship, he said — complete with age-old hymns played on a pipe organ, Latin prayers and the ornate Byzantine details at Stanford Memorial Church.

Contrary to the “pay, pray and obey” tropes about Catholicism, the priest saidbrainy and motivated Stanford students are often first attracted to Catholicism on an intellectual basis, educating themselves on church’s history and centuries-old philosophical traditions before taking the plunge.

The revival at the Palo Alto campus is not just in the conversion numbers. Some 600 students packed into a recent Saturday afternoon Mass of the Holy Spirit. That is hundreds more than Fr. Hutchinson said he would have expected just a couple of years ago.

A sixth-year PhD student in electrical engineering named Obi Nnorom, who grew up a protestant, told the tabloid that the writings of church fathers, early martyrs, and philosophers such as St. Thomas Aquinas drew him to convert.

YouTube videos also played a part as he became “astounded” by the more than 10,000 saints and early martyrs who formed the early church.

“That, ultimately, definitely had a major impact on my conversion,” the 27-year-old doctoral candidate said. “The intellectual tradition of Catholicism shocked me beyond belief.”

Stanford is also the home of the conservative Hoover Institution founded in 1919 by Herbert Hoover, a Stanford alumnus and the 31st president. Its fellows have included iconic economist Milton Friedman, social theorist Thomas Sowell, historian Victor Davis Hanson, and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who now serves as director.

As with the Catholic conversions,the irony is that the conservative Hoover think tank sits inside one of the most liberal universities in the country.

Stanford, however, is in line with the trend of students gravitating to Catholic teachings. “According to data released by the prayer app Hallow, participation in the Order of theChristian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) on college campuses surged by 115% on averagefrom the 2024-25 school year to 2025-26,” according to the news outlet.

The trend defies the political leanings of various states in the U.S.

Campuses in red states, such as Kansas State University and Texas A&M, and more liberal-leaning campuses such as University of Southern California (USC), Harvard, and Columbia University — all have seen an increase.

“All of this has happened at USC with zero marketing. Nothing,” said Deacon Paul Pesqueira of the USC Caruso Catholic Center. “Always word of mouth.”

What we're watching: At 80, leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is running in a close election for an unprecedented, non-consecutive fourth term. His biggest competition is Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, who narrowly lost to Lula in 2022 and was convicted for plotting a coup to overturn the result.

Lula has accused the Trump administration of using tariffs and other means to interfere with Brazilian affairs. Bolsonaro has portrayed Trump as an ally, and is expected to strengthen ties with Washington if elected.

A runoff between both is expected on October 25, if neither passes 50% of votes. Sunday’s results will offer the first real measure of the candidates’ support beyond polls.

Media are now reporting the U.S. has removed all Air Force’s bombers, including B-1s, B-2s, and B-52s, on Sunday from RAF Fairford base in the U.K.

The bombers were redeployed back to their home bases in the United States, AP reported, initially citing a Pentagon official who was not authorized to discuss sensitive military movements and spoke on condition of anonymity. However, multiple news outlets are now reporting on official statements from the Pentagon.

Roughly 500 US troops are moving into Texas’ Rio Grande Valley this week, with video showing soldiers arriving in Chinook helicopters, days after a Coast Guard boat came under fire from cartel members.

The Coast Guard says its crew was on a joint interdiction patrol when gunfire came from across the border. Personnel returned fire, no one was hurt, and no boats were damaged. Law enforcement sources describe the shooters as suspected cartel members, and the incident is still under investigation.

Northern Command is calling the surge Operation Unified Response, which will involve more patrols, sensors, and force protection for Border Patrol and Coast Guard crews working the river.
