Tehran Willing to Strike Deal Before Midterm Elections

President Trump has on multiple occasions indicated his belief that Iran will hold off making a deal to end the war until after the US midterm elections in November. In somewhat surprising statements which contradict this, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has just told American media that Tehran is willing to strike an agreement before the midterms. Per the Thursday afternoon NBC report:

“We don’t want it to get to the midterm elections,” Pezeshkian said Thursday in a brief meeting with NBC News and other news organizations on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

“We wish Americans to return to the MOU before the midterms,” Pezeshkian added, referring to a memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran that laid out plans for a temporary ceasefire. The agreement, signed in June, eventually collapsed.

This Is What A “Perfect Storm” Looks Like: A Global Fertilizer Crisis, A Global Fuel Crisis, A Super El Niño And World War 3 All At The Same Time

If you think that things are bad now, just wait until food shortages really start to kick in next year. Even the UN is admitting that there isn’t going to be enough food for everyone in 2027. As you will see below, they are preparing for a huge spike in global hunger in 2027. The war in the Middle East has caused a global fertilizer crisis which will produce “thinner harvests” both this fall and next year. At the same time, the soaring price of diesel is putting extreme financial pressure on farmers all over the world. Needless to say, soaring fuel costs will get passed on to the rest of us. On top of everything else, the Super El Niño that I have been writing so much about is causing chaotic weather that is literally wiping out crops in Central America and other parts of the planet. The food that is being harvested now is what is supposed to feed us in 2027, and there simply is not going to be enough of it.

Commenting on the findings, Rob Weston, founder and CEO of CropGPT, said, “The market is fundamentally mispricing the sheer scale of this crisis. Traders are understandably watching the forecasts to understand the impact of El Niño, but the real catastrophe is already happening on the ground.” He explained that when 57% of farmers across key agricultural regions are reporting they cannot access or afford the fertiliser they need, “we are not just looking at thinner margins, we are facing a global food crisis. Global food systems cannot absorb a shock of this magnitude without supermarket prices exploding and people starving.”

This is what a “perfect storm” looks like, and we are still only in the early stages.

There will be food shortages in impoverished countries all over the globe in 2027.

In wealthy countries, food prices are already ridiculously high, but they will soon go even higher.

We have got an unprecedented global food crisis on our hands, and there is no relief in sight for the foreseeable future.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has displayed a pager at the UN General Assembly, invoking a deadly 2024 covert sabotage operation targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon that killed dozens and severely wounded thousands, including women and children.

Thousands of pagers carried by Hezbollah members exploded across Lebanon on September 17, 2024, followed by hundreds of weaponized walkie-talkies the next day. The attacks killed dozens and injured up to 4,000 people, including numerous civilian bystanders, healthcare workers and their families. Israel later acknowledged responsibility for the operation.

Speaking at the General Assembly on Thursday, Netanyahu held up a pager, saying: “You remember the beepers? Remember these?” He added: “Hezbollah certainly remembers them.”

France will deploy troops, radar and air-defense systems to Saudi Arabia to protect a key Red Sea oil hub as Riyadh struggles to contain escalating Houthi missile and drone attacks, President Emmanuel Macron has announced.

Macron claimed that French forces would not join the fighting but would merely protect the strategic energy facility under an agreement finalized with Riyadh. The announcement came hours after the Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted six ballistic missiles heading toward Taif, which hosts a key Saudi air base, and the strategic port city of Yanbu.

“We are going to send military resources, that is to say, soldiers, radar systems and defense systems, to protect the site of Yanbu,” Macron told TF1 and France 2 on Thursday.

Macron said the Yanbu hub, which handles several million barrels of oil, had been “very badly damaged” in previous attacks. The Red Sea port has become increasingly important for Saudi exports as the US-Iran war severely restricts tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

shares fell more than 3% on Thursday following news that the company sent a “force majeure” notice tied to its New Mexico data center project to protect itself from higher expenses.

“Project Jupiter remains on our planned schedule,” Oracle said in a statement to CNBC. “We are fully committed to New Mexico and confident in our path forward.”

Bloomberg was first to report the news, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The company is looking to delay payment on the campus, dubbed Project Jupiter, if it fails to come online as expected in 2028, according to the report.

Oracle sent the notice to the developer, which is a unit of Blue Owl Capital

, CNBC confirmed. Blue Owl also saw its shares fall on Thursday.

“This notice does not change the financial commitments to this multi-year project,” Blue Owl Capital said in a statement to CNBC.

The New Mexico data center project, which is part of the broader Stargate artificial intelligence infrastructure build-out with President Donald Trump, has been riddled with setbacks and regulatory hurdles.

That includes local opposition to data centers ahead of the upcoming midterm elections and concerns from environmental groups. The site has also faced delays with the buildout of a natural gas pipeline intended to fuel the facility.

Shares of Bloom Energy, which is slated to power the more than 2.4-gigawatt facility with its fuel cells, fell 3% on the news. In a post to X, the company said it remains “committed” to the contract and following the “planned timeline.”

Oracle co-CEO Clay Magouyrk told analysts on the company’s earnings call on Sept. 10 that Project Jupiter would not affect its previously stated fiscal 2027 revenue or earnings guidance.

Concerns have also mounted over Oracle’s $18 billion in debt tied to the data center, which is already trading at stressed levels, according to the Financial Times.

Peter Schweizer: Xi Jinping Is NOT Winning Within China or Abroad

Americans tend to believe China’s President Xi Jinping enjoys a smooth ride as president but, as Peter Schweizer explains,that’s only because Xi puts his dissenters in jail.

“As he was stepping on the plane to come to the United States, Xi purged two top generals. And he purged them for ‘political unreliability,’” says Schweizer, who is author of three bestselling books about China. “These two generals were members of the Central Military Commission, which is the most important political body in all of China.”

On the most recent episode of The Drill Down, Schweizer and co-host Eric Eggers of the Government Accountability Instituteexplain that Xi’s position in China is not as solid as media critics of Trump like to portray.

“In the last two years, President Xi has purged six members” out of a total of eight from the same body, Schweizer adds. “They were arrested, imprisoned, and charged with capital crimes.The only two remaining are Xi himself, and the dude that he has investigating the other guys,” he says.

“That speaks to the overall level of instability within China,” says Eggers, “and also his ability to quell dissent in China that no one else who doesn’t live in a dictatorship can.”

“This guy is a hard-nosed S.O.B. People criticize Trump for his language,but Xi is enormously nasty when it comes to political opponents,” Schweizer says. “Over the last two years, more than forty-five Chinese generals or admirals… went missing,” Schweizer adds. “Their families don’t know where they are… This is not the sign of a guy who is stable and loved and in a strong position.”

The news draws historical parallels to Josef Stalin’s repeated purges, exiles, and executions of so-called “counterrevolutionaries” in the Soviet Union. The question for western political analysts and intelligence is whether there is real and growing resistance to Xi within China, or a new viral strain of Stalin’s infamous paranoia. That requires a look at how the Chinese economy is really doing behind the regime’s unfailingly rosy economic growth claims.

“The reality is largely hidden,” says Eggers.

“The Chinese economy is headed towards its lowest growth since 1991,”says Schweizer. “They’ve actually stopped reporting a lot of economic data because it’s so bad… This is things like business confidence, real estate transactions, etc.”

One key comparative measure we do know is that for the U.S., the total debt is about 125 percent of annual GDP. For China, the debt ratio is 300 percent of that country’s total output, Eggers explains.

All of this, Schweizer believes, is important to bear in mind when Trump and Xi meet this week in Washington and various political commentators try to handicap the positions of each country’s leader.

“The underlying dynamics and power positions of these two leaders is frankly the opposite of what a lot of the domestic media is telling you, either because they just don’t like Trump or because they are so ignorant of what is really happening in China today,” Schweizer explains.

And both hosts predict the coverage from the legacy media will remain that way. “ABC is owned by Disney, which has a lot of commercial activity in China,” Schweizer says. “You do something to tick off Xi, and he’s going to kick them out of the country.”

The topics of the summit will focus on Iran and AI, the hosts predict. As pressure is building on Trump within the tech communityto make some kind of deal with China to slow down AI progress, Schweizer is blunt aboutthe odds China would honor any such deal: “zero percent.”He recalls what happened during COVID. “They signed a grant agreement with the NIH [National Institutes of Health] to give us all the research records. They violated that agreement.” He cites several other related agreements China violated.

“The bottom line is they are not going to abide by any AI agreement,” Schweizer says.“It’s designed to constrain us, not them.”

On the Iran situation, the hosts note that China imports 90 percent of its oil and, because of Trump’s moves in Venezuela and with Iran, China’s ability to import oil has been hobbled. The country is using up its own stockpiles and will soon have to buy at elevated prices, causing yet more damage to the Chinese economy.

During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Chinese military and civilians rescued hundreds of American pilots at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives. This friendship, forged through blood and fire, will surely be passed down from generation to generation.

However, on the day of the raid, the mission took an unexpected turn when a Japanese warship spotted the American carrier. The pilots decided to take off ahead of schedule, at a much greater distance from Japan than planned.

They accomplished their mission. But with fuel running out and communications disrupted, they were forced to bail out of the aircraft or make emergency landings across the Chinese provinces of Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, and Jiangxi.

Starving and injured, the airmen were rescued by Chinese soldiers and civilians, who bandaged their wounds and shared the very food they had saved for their own families.

"The Doolittle Raid, they had a jump in the middle of the night into a very dark China. There were no lights in the countryside. They were all gathered by the Chinese people, normal people – soldiers, doctors, merchant men, farmers, kids, children," said Greene.

In one harrowing instance, three pilots landed in a Japanese-occupied zone. To save them, more than a dozen Chinese civilians formed a human wall, using their own bodies to shield the airmen from Japanese assaults, successfully escorting them to safety.

However, these acts of heroism triggered a brutal and devastating retaliation. Less than a month later, Japanese forces launched a military campaign in east China's Zhejiang Province and Jiangxi Province.

A newspaper at the time depicted the horrors of the invasion: "There is no sign of life in the fields, only cries of grief at midnight; there is nothing on the roads, but coffins being carried".

During the offensive, members of the notorious Unit 731 of the Japanese army even deployed biological weapons.

"The Japanese soldiers went berserk, and in the next three months, they killed at least 250,000 Chinese men, women and children – anyone they suspected of giving aid and comfort to the American pilots. They used rifles and bayonets and bombs and grenades. They also used bacteriological weapons. We see a holocaust," said Greene.
