Mass graves found in war-torn Sudan

A local official accused the RSF of executing civilians including women, children, and hospital workers

Mass graves containing the bodies of 25 civilians have been found in Kurmuk in Sudan’s Blue Nile region after the army retook the town, Kurmuk commissioner Abdel Aty Mohamed al Faki has said.

Al Faki accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of executing the victims, local news outlets reported on Sunday. The dead include women, children, and hospital workers, according to the commissioner.

Army units discovered the graves during clearing operations in northeastern Kurmuk, more than a month after government forces regained control of the town. The victims were killed near Jebel Fankat, a hill that the RSF used to launch suicide drones, the Sudan Tribune reported.

The war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF began in April 2023. Fighting has since spread across the country and forced millions of people from their homes.

Similar allegations were reported in Darfur in November 2025. The Sudan Doctors Network accused the RSF of collecting hundreds of bodies from the streets and neighborhoods of El-Fasher and burying some in mass graves while burning others to conceal evidence of killings.

The recapture of Kurmuk came as the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) made gains in other parts of Sudan. In late July, the army regained several areas in North Kordofan from the RSF, including Bara, Jabra al-Sheikh, and Um Sayala. Later, Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan visited frontline positions in the region.

The SAF has regained other key areas during the war. In 2025, the army retook Khartoum and later declared the entire capital region free of RSF forces.

However, Sudan’s wider humanitarian crisis has continued to worsen. Earlier this month, International Federation of Red Cross special envoy Derk Segaar called for more international support. “Sudan is one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises, yet it is also one of its most overlooked,” he said.

Bigelow said he prepared seven reports for the president, including one focused on UAPs, extraterrestrials and disclosure. He claimed he asked Trump to publicly acknowledge what he believes is a non-human presence on Earth, while arguing that disclosure should begin with a simple presidential confirmation rather than the release of thousands of classified files.

'A non-human intelligent presence has been on Earth for a very long time,' Bigelow said, amid renewed debate over UAP disclosure.

Bigelow's account remains unverified and does not establish the existence of extraterrestrial activity on Earth, so his claims should be treated with caution.

Bigelow's position is not that a president could simply release every file connected to UAPs.

He said even presidents might not have access to the most highly compartmentalised Special Access Programmes, meaning that any attempt at disclosure would involve more than a single announcement from the Oval Office.

'Disclosure is a process,' Bigelow explained. He was also reluctant to blame private corporations entirely for withholding information, arguing that 'the entire United States government has been complicit.'

Bigelow also spoke about the position of whistleblowers who may possess important information but remain bound by secrecy agreements. He said Trump's promises to protect them would not be enough and argued that granting full amnesty should be treated as a priority.

What they know is irreplaceable,' Bigelow said, describing whistleblowers as 'your biggest asset walking around.'

It is a forceful argument, but also an awkward one. If the people who allegedly hold the most valuable information are legally prevented from speaking, then public disclosure depends on the same gatekeepers giving them permission to speak.

The Falcon 9 upper stage weighed about four tonnes and was roughly the size of a school bus. According to the supplied account, it had spent 18 months drifting through space after deploying two lunar landers.

Normally, rocket stages involved in such missions are guided back towards Earth. In this case, the Falcon 9 had reportedly used too much fuel for that option. It was left in a looping, unstable orbit, with the gravitational pull of the Earth, Sun and Moon gradually pushing it towards a collision.

The rocket eventually hit the far side of the Moon early on Wednesday morning. No one was aboard, so the event posed no danger to human life. Its significance was instead tied to the growing amount of discarded equipment travelling through space, where even an apparently inert object can eventually find itself on a collision course.

South Korea's Danuri lunar orbiter reportedly released before-and-after images showing the aftermath of the impact.

Those images offered a rare visual record of the crash, while Bigelow's briefing returned the conversation to a less tangible question, one that remains unanswered despite his confidence.

If humanity is being watched, Bigelow has yet to provide publicly verifiable evidence establishing it. If it is not, his warning about what humans might look like from a distance still offers a provocative thought experiment.

The Zone of Silence is widely reported to have first been coined in 1966 when Augusto Harry de la Peña, the leader of an expedition for oil company Pemex, experienced problems with his radio.

Since then, thousands have visited the zone and come up with their own theories – which sceptics have dismissed as inventions to attract tourists.

Some of the claims include sightings of mutant animals and plants.

Travellers continue to come from around the world to witness these strange phenomena, including US digital nomad Hannah Pinkerton, who lives in Mexico teaching Spanish.

She visited the Zone of Silence last year and camped the night in the desert with a tour group, in an experience she documented on her travel website Destined for Adventure.

“It’s really beautiful, the sunset was really beautiful, and it was a nice camping experience – there is not a lot out there,” she said.

“It’s very quiet and peaceful, there’s not a lot of trees, there’s not a lot of mountains, there’s just a lot of sand and open land.”

Hannah said the Zone of Silence is not well known outside the Spanish-speaking world, but it is very well known in Mexico with friends telling her before she left that she might “see a spaceship”.

She said she is “open minded and curious” about the paranormal but did not see anything out of the ordinary.

“It’s a vast desert and it’s very quiet and peaceful, the radios and cell phones and things don’t work, so there is not a lot of distraction to take you away from the quietness,” she said.

Benjamin agreed the remoteness and beauty of the zone – as well as its strange phenomena – is what has “captivated” him for decades.

“It is a remarkable place; one feels a very special energy that recharges the body, making one feel dynamic and highly active – as if infused with a surge of energy,” he said.

“That is the sensation one experiences in the Zone of Silence.”
