Iron Dome shoots down Iranian missile fragments fired at Jordan

Minutes before the interception, the IDF issued a warning to southern areas near the border.

The IDF's Iron Dome was used on Sunday afternoon to shoot down fragments of an Iranian ballistic missile fired at Jordan near the border with Israel after the US Aegis anti-missile system had already been used to shoot down the primary missile warhead.

This is the first time that Iron Dome has been used against an Iranian aerial threat since the April 7 ceasefire, which included Israel, kicked in.

Jordan has not ordered evacuation of Aqaba airport or seaport, gov't spokesperson says

Over the last week, Jordan has repeatedly said that it has intercepted Iranian missiles.

Jordanian authorities have not issued any decision to evacuate the airport or seaport in Aqaba on Sunday, the government's spokesperson told Reuters, after the US embassy in Amman said they had been evacuated due to a credible threat.

"No potential threats have been recorded by the relevant Jordanian authorities in the past few hours," government spokesperson Mohammad Al-Momani told Reuters in a written statement. "The airport and port are operating normally."

Iran targets Kuwaiti infrastructure to send 'calibrated signal' to US following direct strikes

The attacks, which also saw Bahrain, Jordan and Saudi Arabia targeted, carried through onto Sunday.

Critical infrastructure in Kuwait was a “relatively attractive target” for Iran as it sought to escalate without risking a larger response from its Gulf neighbors, international relations expert Dr. Arman Mahmoudian, a research fellow at the University of South Florida’s Global and National Security Institute, explained to The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.

Over the weekend, Iranian attacks caused significant damage at a power generation plant, a water desalination plant and several residential areas in Kuwait. Kuwait Petroleum Corporation also confirmed on Saturday that one of its oil facilities was hit by "repeated Iranian attacks," resulting in significant material damage and some injuries.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed the attacks had been on a US military support center at Kuwait's Camp Arifjan, and alleged it had destroyed a radar facility at Ali Al Salem Air Base.

American refueling tankers to be stationed in IDF bases, Ramon Airport as US reinforces Middle East

Tiny drone hits invisible mode by twisting faster than eye can detect

Engineers at Northwestern University have built a drone that vanishes without camouflage or transparent panels.

Its trick is spinning so fast that your eyes simply give up trying to focus, a stealth edge that could turn surveillance into something almost invisible.

The aircraft, nicknamed Phantom Twist, rotates up to 25 times per second, a rate that outpaces how quickly our visual system can process sharp detail. Instead of true invisibility, the drone dissolves into a faint, ghostly blur that blends into whatever is behind it.

The work, led by associate professor Michael Rubenstein, was presented on July 16 at the Robotics: Science and Systems 2026 conference in Sydney, Australia, under the title Computational Design of a Low-Visibility UAV Using Human-Aligned Perceptual Metric.

"Most efforts to hide drones focus on making them look like their surroundings," says Rubenstein.

"Instead, we asked whether we could design the drone itself around the way humans perceive motion. This idea of low visibility through persistent motion is something few people have explored."

That distinction matters because drones are increasingly used to watch wildlife, check aging infrastructure, or survey wetlands, but their mere presence changes the behavior of whatever they're observing.

Birds scatter, animals flee, people act differently. A drone that's hard to spot could do the same job without that side effect.

Prior attempts at motion-based concealment offer useful context here.

The Northwestern paper points to an earlier project nicknamed the Boomerang Drone, covered in a 2006 New York Times Magazine piece, which tried a similar high-speed rotation trick but couldn't spin fast enough to fully exploit the blur effect, leaving it largely visible.

The paper authors also trace the broader idea of active concealment back to the "Yehudi light," a counter-illumination project developed by the National Defense Research Committee in 1944 to hide Allied sea-search aircraft from enemy view.

The Phantom Twist itself takes a very different shape from those earlier attempts.

Rather than a typical quadcopter with four separate rotors, it runs on a single motor and a single propeller, with the propeller spinning one way while the rest of the drone's body spins the opposite way.

"For a typical quadrotor drone, the propellers are spinning, but the robot is stationary," Rubenstein explains. "So, you still see its body. For our drone, the whole thing is rotating, so there are no stationary parts."

To reach that layout, the team's computer model generated roughly 20,000 possible drone configurations capable of stable flight, then used artificial intelligence and optimization algorithms to repeatedly rearrange the motor, propeller, circuit board, counterweight, and batteries.

Each design was simulated spinning mid-flight and overlaid on 100 real-world backgrounds, then scored by a perceptual model built to mimic human vision, where a lower score meant better camouflage.

The 500 best-scoring designs were run through the optimizer again to squeeze out further gains before a final version was built.

Emma Alexander, an assistant professor of computer science and one of the study's co-authors, explains the underlying physics. "The human eye takes time to accumulate signals, roughly analogous to the exposure time of a camera," she says.

"When an object spins quickly, we perceive it as blurring out and losing distinct features. Because this new drone is almost entirely transparent, its few opaque components are visually averaged with the background for an overall appearance of a slight haze."

According to the paper's visibility metric, the finished drone is about 10 times harder to spot than a standard quadcopter.

But the spinning trick has real limits that make this drone far from being completely unnoticeable.

The propeller still makes an audible whir that gives the drone away even when the eye can't, and its support wires and rods remain partly visible.

The paper's authors suggest future versions could lean on more transparent materials and quieter propulsion, edging the drone ever closer to true – and somewhat scary – invisibility.

After all, the same trick making a drone less impactful on wildlife could just as easily help it sneak around for reasons that aren't so friendly.

Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb said Saturday that some of the unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAP, featured in a newly released government file dump likely have ordinary explanations, while others warrant further investigation because of their potential implications for national security and science.

Speaking on Newsmax TV's "Saturday Agenda," Loeb cautioned against assuming that every object shown in the released materials represents unexplained technology.

"Some of these are natural events," Loeb said.

He pointed to a widely circulated video of a star-shaped object, saying its appearance was likely caused by the camera rather than the object itself.

"The star-shaped object that you showed — that's a result of a diffraction pattern in the camera that is taking the image," he said.

Loeb added that some of the orb-like objects included in the files could also have conventional explanations, such as laser spots created by human technology or ball lightning, a rare atmospheric electrical phenomenon.

"There are also some of the orbs that may be a result of laser spots … or a result of ball lightning," he said.

Loeb said the challenge is distinguishing explainable events from those that remain genuinely anomalous.

"We are trying to separate the wheat from the chaff and advise the government how to get more information that will get to the bottom of it," he said.

He said a careful analysis of the government's UAP data could benefit both national security and scientific research.

According to Loeb, the two central questions are whether the objects represent potential security concerns and whether they could provide evidence that humanity is not alone in the universe.

"There are two subjects that are of importance to the American people," Loeb said. "That's national security, as well as, are we alone in the universe? Do we have a neighbor in our cosmic environment?"

Loeb said analyzing government data on anomalous objects could help answer both questions.

He also said officials within the Pentagon and U.S. intelligence agencies remain uncertain about some of the reported phenomena.

"Frankly, the Pentagon, as well as the intelligence agencies, are puzzled about the properties of these objects," he said.

Loeb said the advisory effort he is involved with aims to examine the evidence methodically.

"My council will try to figure out, like in a detective story, what it's all about," he said.

He credited President Donald Trump's directive to review UAP records and declassify information that does not affect national security with making more material available for analysis.

Loeb emphasized that the newly released records represent "a mixed bag," with some cases likely explainable and others requiring additional investigation.

'Part of these problems is that they're all very, very new to the subject,' he said.

He said his organization recently launched a worldwide appeal encouraging people working inside covert aerospace programs to disclose evidence they believe has been hidden from Congress and the public.

'We're encouraging them to defect with this positive proof of operations that have been run illegally,' Greer said.

Greer said he is also encouraged by conversations he has had with lawmakers serving on congressional oversight committees.

'They feel like this is sort of a slow roll, and they hope… they tell me they expect more,' he said.

While he acknowledged that many of his claims remain controversial, Greer maintained that disclosure is inevitable and argued that it has the potential to fundamentally change humanity's understanding of its place in the universe.

US claims PA’s prisoner payments reform a con, dismissing audit that suggested otherwise

While external review found welfare payments now conditioned on financial status instead of prison sentence, State Department says it didn’t examine ‘clandestine bypass channels’

The US State Department on Sunday accused the Palestinian Authority of trying to “dupe” the international community into believing it ended a welfare system that incentivized attacks on Israelis, dismissing an external audit that suggested otherwise.

PA President Mahmoud Abbas signed a decree in February 2025 ending the previous program, which conditioned payments to Palestinian security prisoners on the length of their sentence, and established a new system that tied all welfare stipends to recipients’ financial situation.

Initial skepticism in Washington over the announcement intensified when it was discovered the following November that a subsequent round of payments was made under the previous mechanism. Abbas fired his finance minister over the transgression, but Ramallah has failed to earn the Trump administration’s trust on the issue.

In an attempt to demonstrate its seriousness, the PA commissioned the prominent global consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal to conduct an audit of its new welfare system being run out of the Palestinian National Economic Empowerment Institution (PNEEI or “Tamkeen” in Arabic).

Earlier this month, the PA announced that the audit had confirmed that the reform of its welfare program is being properly implemented.

The US responded by calling on the PA to publicly release the audit. Last week, Ramallah released A&M’s summary of the audit, which confirmed Ramallah’s own description of the results.

The audit identified the batch of illicit payments under the previous system that was made in November 2025, but noted that the PA had informed A&M that those were for previously accrued obligations before the February 2025 reform was announced. The audit said additional documentation was still needed to independently verify that the old payment mechanisms have been permanently shut down.

Overall, though, the auditors concluded that the reform has largely succeeded in separating the new cash assistance program from the previous prisoner payment system, while recommending stronger documentation, automation and financial controls to ensure the separation remains permanent.

Asked for comment on the matter, a State Department spokesperson again offered a dismissive response.

“The review commissioned by the PA examined only the new social payments institution (“Tamkeen”) without looking into the various clandestine bypass channels that the PA built around it, under the international community’s radar,” the spokesperson said in a statement to The Times of Israel.

“This review alone cannot serve as any proof that ‘pay-for-slay’ payments have stopped. It did not receive, nor examine, any evidence on the continuing payments to terrorists and their families, which are disguised as fake wages and pensions or simply handed in cash,” the State Department spokesperson said, suggesting that those are the methods that the PA is now using to pay the families of prisoners and slain attackers, albeit without providing evidence.

The Israeli government has made similar accusations.

“The PA is trying to mislead the international community that it met its commitment to end ‘pay-for-slay’ by presenting the A&M review as proof. The fact that the PA has not published the full review should be enough to raise suspicion that such disclosure would expose its deceit,” the statement continued. A source familiar with the matter said the remainder of the audit is largely technical, but said the PA has handed over the document in its entirety to the Trump administration.

The bombshell records revealed by the Senate Judiciary Committee this week confirm that unaccountable special counsels and federal agencies did in fact use their power to secretly and unconstitutionally surveil elected representatives without proper legal process.

Accessing the private communications of lawmakers is an assault on the separation of powers, on congressional independence, and on the constitutional rights of every American.

There must be criminal consequences for this egregious, unconstitutional and illegal abuse of power.

That means prosecution for those responsible — and quickly enacting strong reforms to prevent any presidential administration, now or in the future, from wielding government tools against Americans or their elected representatives.

The American people sent us to Washington to defend the Constitution, not to let it be shredded by politically motivated investigators.

I will continue leading the fight against this appalling abuse of power until we achieve real accountability and lasting change.

That’s what President Trump means when he says we must drain the swamp — because, even now, it continues to be shocking just how deep its weaponized muck goes.

Police Keep Losing Their Jobs For Using Flock Cameras To Stalk People

Flock cameras—solar-powered, automated license plate readers, weighing less than 3 pounds and designed to be unobtrusive—can be found on 80,000 street corners throughout the country. The company behind the cameras built an $8.3 billion business empowering officers to track people’s movements. Nationwide, Flock cameras log billions of license plates each month. And now dozens of reports are emerging of police using the cameras not to solve crimes, but to stalk their partners and exes.

Over a two-month period in 2025, Milwaukee police officer Josue Ayala searched the license plate number of someone he was dating over 200 times, according to court documents. He also searched for his partner’s ex.

Another Milwaukee officer, Tehrangi Chapman, was assigned to investigate Ayala’s case. Ayala was charged with misconduct, resigned, and was sentenced to one year’s probation. Then, this week, Chapman too was charged with “misuse of GPS information.” While investigating Ayala, he allegedly engaged in the exact same misconduct, using the technology to track people in his own life.

The Institute for Justice, a libertarian public-interest law firm, identified at least 24 similar cases nationwide of officers using automated license-plate reader (ALPR) cameras like Flock to stalk romantic interests over the past two years. Nearly all of those officers were criminally charged and lost their jobs.

This month alone, at least six new cases were reported in local media outlets. Beyond Chapman’s case in Wisconsin, officers in Illinois, South Carolina, Texas, California, and Georgia all lost their jobs due to alleged misuse of Flock cameras.
