The Air Force finally handed over a trove of documents pertaining to its sweeping “goal” of reducing the number of white male applicants in a popular officer program after spending months stonewalling requests for their release.

Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman C.Q. Brown — at the time the highest-ranking member of the Air Force — issued a memorandum in 2022 that the branch was updating its racial and gender demographic goals for applicants seeking to become officers, in a bid to prioritize “diversity and inclusion.” Internal documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation include a slideshow from 2022 where the Air Force outlinesracial and gender quotasand details how it hopes to “achieve” a reduced number of white males in its Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) officer’s applicant program.

The documents reflect the Biden-Harris Pentagon’s intense focus on implementing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies in the armed forces, even as the military continues to combat dwindling morale among its rank-and-file, recruiting and retention shortfalls and low pay.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) —Mayor Gavin Newsom boosted his hipness factor after spending about 15 minutes chatting with members of Coldplayon local radio.

Newsom, 36, called in to KLLC-FM to express his admiration for the band, quiz its members about recent performances and welcome them to the San Francisco Bay area.

In return, singer and frontman Chris Martin and drummer Will Champion invited Newsom to the band’s show at the Fillmore — 1,100 tickets sold out in mere seconds Sunday.

During the Wednesday call-in, Newsom, Martin, Champion and two disc jockeys chatted about the elections in the United Kingdom; Martin’s daughter, Apple, with his wife, Gwyneth Paltrow; and Newsom’s luxury resort in Napa, where Champion stayed earlier in the week.

After Newsom hung up, the band members said he sounded like a well-intentioned, genuine guy that San Francisco was lucky to have as mayor.

NEW YORK (AP) — Get ready for a second season of “Making the Band 3.”

Sean “P. Diddy” Combs will continue his reality TV talent search to form and develop an all-girl group, MTV and Combs announced Thursday.

“Get ready for the next season of ‘Making the Band,’ ‘cause believe me, we’re gonna make a band,” Combs said in a statement.

The hip-hop mogul will continue his search for contestants to compete against three returning cast members. Production will begin with open call auditions starting later this month in New York.

“Season one showed our viewers that landing a spot in P. Diddy’s next group requires incredible drive, determination and star power,” said Lois Curren, executive vice president, MTV Series Entertainment. “As Combs’ quest for an all-girl group continues, we invite our viewers who aspire to stardom to pack their bags and audition in a city near them.”

Contestants are judged on their dancing ability, vocal talent, star power and willingness to be part of a group. Those who don’t meet Diddy’s standards are eliminated.

Auditions also will be held in Washington, Detroit, Minneapolis, Dallas, San Francisco, Virginia Beach, Va., and Orlando, Fla.

The first presidential debate loomed over last night’s 2016 Boys & Girls Harbor Salute to Achievement Gala held at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, giving a rushed feeling to the evening’s proceedings. “I’m going to make this brief,” Boys & Girls Harbor Board Chairman, Stephen Dannhauser, said at the start of his remarks. “I know most of you want to go watch the debate.”Lyor Cohen did the same in his introduction to the evening’s lead honoree, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, who was given the Tony Duke Award for establishing his own charter school, Capital Prep, which recently struck a shared facilities partnership with Boys & Girls Harbor.

Rather than follow suit, the legendary rapper chose to arrive just under an hour late to the evening’s dinner with a handful accompanying guests, including his mother Janice Combs, girlfriend Cassie, and a full camera crew, and treated the crowd to his own non-partisan political grandstanding. He accepted his award with a 25-minute speech focused primarily on the state of education in inner-city communities, including his native Harlem, New York. “As we wait for the government to call a state of emergency on the unfairness of the education system, and how it’s going to be fixed, we have to do it ourselves,” he said. “We can’t slow down. We have to lead by example. We have to show the success rate, and we have to instill the importance of education in our communities, and how hard you have to work to really be a leader.”

We need to make sure that we’re not standing here 8 years from now when nothing has drastically changed to deal with these issues. A Dramatic Tax Pounding Come 2026

It’s a matter of debate as to whether or not the future of democracy is at stake in this year’s presidential election. But the future of your tax bill certainly is. And the differences for successful business owners could be dramatic depending on who wins.

Although Democrat nominee and current vice president Kamala Harris has offered few new tax policy specifics, she did roll out a grab bag of expensive tax credits, including $25,000 grants for first-time homebuyers. In addition, The Wall Street Journal reports that she’s expected to hew closely to Joe Biden’s tax philosophy. And she did re-emphasize that she will stick to President Biden’s “no tax increases for earners under $400,000” pledge.

With billions of dollars in proposed new tax credits and no new taxes for those below a $400,000 income threshold, a Democrat administration will by definition be coming after higher-income taxpayers full force.

There have been enough public statements and published policy proposals from both sides to be able to compare a successful business owner’s likely tax bill under a Harris presidency compared to a second Trump presidency. The differences are stark.

Trump Tax Legacy: Cuts and Jobs Act incentives

The defining tax policy of Donald Trump’s presidency was the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), which combined significant personal and corporate tax cuts with features that encouraged more aggressive business investment.

The TCJA lowered most individual tax rates; adjusted tax bracket thresholds upward; adjusted various personal tax credits; and limited state and local tax deductions, mortgage interest deductions, and charitable giving deductions.

On the business front, the TCJA lowered corporate tax rates dramatically, taking the U.S. from one of the highest corporate tax rates in the industrialized world to about the average rate of the nations belonging to the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD). It also allowed accelerated depreciation for investment in many kinds of business equipment while closing several corporate tax deductions and loopholes.

For successful small business owners, a key feature of the TCJA was its qualified business income deduction for up to 20% of the income of pass-through entities like S-corporations, sole proprietorships, and others.

But a critical feature of the TCJA was that key provisions of it would sunset — expire — in 2025. Why would Congress make such a critical thing as our fundamental tax policy, in effect, temporary? Essentially, because it couldn’t have passed any other way, and the sunset provisions allowed the bill to overcome objections and legislative blocking mechanisms.

Donald Trump has said (no surprise) that his administration will renew and make permanent all of the TCJA’s provisions.

The Biden/Harris administration (also no surprise) has said they’ll let most of the TCJA’s provisions expire, other than the expanded Child Tax Credit and a few other individual tax provisions. The administration’s determination to scrap most of the TCJA forms the foundation for the dramatic divergence in tax outcomes for business owners under Democrats versus Republicans starting next year.

Harris reiterated last week that no one who makes under $400,000 would face a tax increase — though the devil is in the details. Since every income group saw a reduction in its tax rate in 2017, allowing the provisions to expire would seem to logically impose a tax rate increase for everyone.

In addition, the 2021 Inflation Reduction Act contained a massive increase in funding for IRS auditors, and the IRS’s own data show that 63% of 2023 IRS audits targeted taxpayers with incomes under $200,000. So the idea that there’s some kind of legal fence around sub-$400,000 earners is illusory.

The Biden/Harris administration has also proposed hiking corporate tax rates by 33%, raising rates on high earners, and setting a minimum tax rate for them regardless of other tax considerations.

Kamala Harris further tax background

Historically, Kamala Harris has staked out very progressive taxation policies with aggressive marginal rates on high income earners and corporations. As a presidential candidate in 2020, she advocated for the full repeal of the TCJA — not simply waiting for it to sunset.

Highlights of her previously stated plans:

Raising corporate taxes 66% to a marginal rate of 35%

Pushing the top income tax rate to 39.6%.

Taxing capital gains and dividends at ordinary income tax rates.

She would also give huge tax credits to middle- and low-income families that are estimated to cost the federal government more than $2 trillion over the next decade.

Finally, she has in the past proposed “Medicare for All,” one of the most costly policies ever proposed at roughly $3 trillion annually. Harris suggested a surtax of 4% on all incomes above $100,000 to pay for it.

The effects on a successful small business taxpayer

To look at the effect of who’s in the White House for the next four years, let’s examine what a sample successful small businessperson’s tax return might look for the exact same amounts of income this year versus in 2026, when the bulk of the 2017 Trump tax cuts expire, under both Trump’s and Harris’s stated or affirmed tax plans.

This analysis focuses on a successful small businessperson who is reporting combined income from all sources of just under $750,000. The numbers in the example are drawn from an actual 2023 return and anonymized. We can assume the same nominal income from all categories for 2026.

IRS data suggest that about 1% of all taxpayers reported more than $500,000 in income, so with roughly 167 million taxpayers, there would be roughly 1.67 million taxpayers whose returns might look like this — or worse.

Conclusions

What the sample data and calculations suggest is that the hammer will come down hard on high-income taxpayers if Kamala Harris is elected president and Congress doesn’t have enough votes to override her likely vetoes of any legislation that perpetuated the 2017 Trump tax cut.

A taxpayer making $750,000 with relatively straightforward deductions and business investments could see his tax bill leap from about $150,000 under a Trump administration’s stated policies to $217,000 under a Harris administration’s proposed and inferred policies.

That’s an increase of almost 45% in total tax dollars paid.

That painful outcome for the successful taxpayer under Harris would largely be a result of two factors: a reversion to pre-2017 top marginal tax rates and the removal of the Qualified Business Income Deduction.

And all that is before considering that the Biden/Harris administration let a budget footnote slip that indicated that it would seek a gigantic doubling of the capital gains tax.

Our national tax policy and how it affects successful economic contributors will swing wildly on the hinge of this November’s election. High earners will need to prepare for the possibility that the tax door may hit them square in the wallet.

“The Attorney General Merrick Garland just vetoed charging Ryan Routh with attempted assassination. So I want you to think about what the thought process of Merrick Garland must be. He must somehow think that this man was in that bush on that golf course for some other reason.

Even though this man, Ryan Routh, has actually written and published a book where he calls for the assassination of Donald Trump. This man then went and camped out in a bush on Donald Trump's golf course for more than 12 hours with body armor and a fully loaded SKS.

Like, sure, the rifle you could explain away, but the body armor, you only have body armor if you expect for rounds to be fired at you. And I don't know any animals he'd be hunting with opposable thumbs, so I can only surmise that he was worried about people shooting at him.

There he was camped out in a bush on Donald Trump's golf course, waiting on the 6th hole while Donald Trump was on the 5th hole minutes away from being within range of him. And thankfully, the secret service was able to notice the barrel of his rifle sticking out of that bush, and then they opened fire, he fled, and he was eventually apprehended.

But to not charge him with attempted assassination, that means that Merrick Garland has found some reason to think that Ryan Ruth was there for some other reason, wearing body armor and carrying a fully loaded rifle.

I'm just curious what other reason could that be? What other reason could a man who's written and published a book calling for Donald Trump's assassination, bearing body armor with a fully loaded rifle hiding in a bush on Trump's golf course in a spot where Trump was gonna be within a couple minutes.

What other reason did he have to be there? Like, somebody give me something. I'd love to hear Merrick Garland tell us why he thought Ryan Routh was there.

Former Bad Boy president Harve Pierre has been sued for sexual assault and grooming.

According to Rolling Stone, a Jane Doe has accused Pierre of predatory behavior and abusing his position for his sexual gain. “[Pierre preyed] on multiple occasions in New York City and other locations throughout the country,” the suit alleges. “Pierre used his position of authority as plaintiff’s boss to groom, exploit, and sexually assault her. Pierre engaged in a year-long pattern of grooming plaintiff, leading to sexual harassment of plaintiff, and sexual assault.”

The lawsuit points to 2016 and 2017 as key years that the ex-Bad Boy boss allegedly sexually assaulted her. Harve’s actions allegedly left her with physical injuries, and emotional and mental trauma. Doe is seeking undisclosed damages that she believes will “fully and fairly compensate” her.

Additionally, Bad Boy Entertainment has been named in the suit for their role in neglecting Pierre’s alleged behavior. The suit states that the company failed to “properly supervise” and reprimand the former president. “Defendants knew or should have known that Pierre was unfit to be in a position of authority before Pierre sexually assaulted plaintiff,” the suit added.

A Bad Boy spokesperson asserted that they had no idea that such behavior had taken place “many years ago.” However, the company did state they were taking the suit seriously and handling it with “top priority.”
