Dear Member of Congress,

Reflecting on four years of achievements in his farewell address, President Trump suggested that

deregulation might have been the most significant accomplishment of all. Under his

administration, the United States government eliminated more than two old regulations for every

new regulation adopted. The results were unmistakable: a stronger economy that delivered results

for the American people.

Perhaps nowhere has this been so clear as for privately-owned freight railroads. For four years,

the Trump administration repealed unneeded regulations, rejecting special interest calls to impose

policies unrelated to the core focus of the U.S. Department of Transportation: advancing safety.

Policymaking was based on sound data, and it showed: train derailments were down on average

compared to the Obama administration.

Unfortunately, today, some Republicans are falling prey to the idea that government regulators

can deliver better results on rail than free markets and a pro-growth economy. History proves

otherwise: railroads exist today in large part due to deregulatory efforts that took place nearly half

a century ago.

Proposed legislation like the Railway Safety Act in the Senate and the Railroad Safety

Enhancement Act in the House ignores these hard lessons of the past. Purporting to respond to

the 2023 derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, many of these bills’ provisions (e.g. two-man crew

mandates) look more like regulatory opportunism, with no grounding in the facts—not even

according to the safety report compiled by a Biden-appointed National Transportation Safety

Board (NTSB).

These bills fly in the face of the Trump legacy of eliminating unnecessary, burdensome, and

costly regulations. Republicans must not turn their backs on the reality that American railroads

are safer than ever before. Despite recent high-profile incidents, hazmat incidents are down 78%

since 2000, and mainline accidents are down 44% thanks to private capital investment and

technology upgrades empowered by the free market over the years.

We already have enough regulation and stagnation. We don’t need more. We simply need to

unleash America.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro suspect in an apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump now faces formal federal charges with more pending.

58-year-old Ryan Routh made his first court appearance Monday morning in federal court in West Palm Beach, Florida. He received charges of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

The FBI arrested Routh Sunday after Secret Service agents saw the muzzle of an AK-47-style rifle pointing through shrubbery toward the former President Trump as Trump golfed on one of his courses.

Trump is safe and thanking Secret Service for quick action.

Many questions remain about Routh. Investigators say he currently lives in Hawaii, but for years, he lived, studied, worked, and committed crimes in Greensboro.

According to public records, Routh owned a company called United Roofing. WFMY News 2 went by the property on Husbands Street, which appeared to be unoccupied for some time. Neighbors and businesses in the area said they haven't seen anyone at the listed address in years, but said the company used the property to dump trash.

Records show Ryan Routh owned the business United Roofing in Greensboro. We went by the property, which now appears abandoned.

Court documents show several legal battles United Roofing has been in. Many people have sued the business in years past.

Routh owned many properties through Guilford County. WFMY News 2's Amber Lake drove to several of those properties and many appear abandoned. Neighbors at those properties said they haven't seen anyone come by in years.

Voter registration records show Routh is registered to vote in North Carolina and listed a Greensboro address. WFMY News 2 went to that address, where a neighbor said Routh lived, but moved out in May.

Routh lived in Greensboro before moving to Hawaii with his son to operate a shed-building company.

WFMY News 2 obtained footage from 2002 where Routh was accused of barricading himself in a home in Guilford County. He was charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

Routh has a long criminal history in North Carolina, according to the Department of Adult Corrections website - from hit-and-run to possession of stolen goods.

CBS News found several social media profiles that appear to be connected to Routh. He posted a lot about politics, but never seemed to post any threats. Routh did, however, post quite a bit about the war in Ukraine, hoping to raise money and recruit volunteers to go over and help fight against Russia.

Records also show Routh divorced a few years back and has adult children.

He attended North Carolina A&T State University for two semesters but did not graduate.

WFMY News 2 is continuing to learn more about Routh's connections to Greensboro.

A day after the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, Sen. Josh Hawley released a whistleblower report on the Secret Service’s failures in the first assassination attempt on the 45th president, including some that have never been reported on previously.

The Missouri Republican senator’s report found the Secret Service intelligence units were absent from the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally on July 13. The intelligence units are teams of Secret Service agents that are paired with state and local law enforcement to handle reports of suspicious persons.

Hawley also found that the hospital where Trump was treated was poorly secured. His report states that the hospital site agent failed to answer basic questions regarding site security.

The report further highlights that neither the Secret Service, a division of the Department of Homeland Security, nor the department itself, provided answers about who made the decisions to deny counter-sniper coverage to the rooftop where the Pennsylvania shooter shot Trump.

The report also says neither agency would publicly name the lead site agency for the rally.

They also did not answer questions about reports that the Secret Service denied the Trump campaign the protection resources it requested.

Hawley is a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and is among the members of Congress to personally survey the Butler site.

The senator shared the report with the House Task Force investigating the July 13 shooting in Butler.

Would-Be Trump Assassin Palled Around With Neo-Nazi Azov Brigade In Ukraine: What Did The Government Know?

Perhaps the most interesting angle to attempted Trump assassin Ryan Routh's recent history in his Ukraine connection. We documented that when he went to Ukraine to recruit for its International Legion in 2022 he was a Western mainstream media darling for a time, having been quoted on behalf of the cause to get more foreign fighters thrown into the battle against Russia by a who's who of major media sources from FT to Newsweek to the NY Times.

But when he arrived in Ukraine, according to these media reports, the 58-year old Routh himself was considered too old to fight alongside the Ukrainian army. "So plan B," Routh described to one outlet, "was to come to Kiev and promote the idea of many others coming to join the International Legion. We need thousands of people here to fight alongside Ukrainians."

"There are about 190 countries on our planet, and if the governments are not officially sending soldiers here, then we civilians should pick up this torch and make it happen," he described. He had told Newsweek in a video interview from Ukraine that the war with Russia was as simple as "good vs. evil" and essentially the same as good guys and bad guys in the Hollywood movies Americans grew up with. It was not a gray conflict, he described, but "black and white".

In March of 2022, just a month into the Russian invasion, he tweeted that everyone around the globe should be willing to volunteer and "fight and die" in Ukraine. Still, much of his time was reportedly spent in a hotel room in the far western city of Lviv.

Among the more bizarre aspects to his campaigning on behalf of the Ukrainian military's foreign legion were his efforts to recruit US-trained Afghan special soldiers to go to Ukraine's front lines. The initiative appeared so large in scale (given Routh was seeking to transfer hundreds, or even thousands, of Afghan fighters - according to his words) - that one commentator questions in light of the attempted assassination of Donald Trump: "Who was he working with in the US government that was allowing him to do this?"

In a 2023 interview with the NY Times Routh openly displayed his proclivity toward violent acts by threatening to shoot his critics, and the Times featured the quote almost as if lionizing his commitment to defending Ukraine:

In a telephone interview with The New York Times in 2023, when Mr. Routh was in Washington, he spoke with the self-assuredness of a seasoned diplomat who thought his plans to support Ukraine’s war effort were sure to succeed. But he appeared to have little patience for anyone who got in his way. When an American foreign fighter seemed to talk down to him in a Facebook message he shared with The New York Times, Mr. Routh said, "he needs to be shot."

Surely visibility like this put him on the federal government's radar… or given Washington's pro-Ukraine euphoria US officials were possibly even helping him in some way.
