The lawmaker criticized the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for falsely describing the incident as "a crash."

"The culture of lies in the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as in other higher military headquarters, leads to the fact that the system of managing military decisions does not improve on the basis of truthful, consistently collected analytics, but deteriorates and even collapses, as is happening in the other directions," she wrote.

The EU has made its first transfer of interest earned on Russia’s frozen central bank assets to Ukraine and other states aiding Kiev, the bloc’s chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, announced on Thursday. A total of €1.4 billion ($1.5 billion) was transferred, he said.

Speaking to reporters ahead of a meeting with EU foreign ministers, Borrell called the development “good news” and said that the funds would be used for Kiev’s military needs and to finance Ukrainian industry.

“We have started using the revenues from windfall profits from frozen Russian assets. [They] have already been sent to Ukraine and sent to the member states who will provide with this money more military equipment to Ukraine,” Borrell stated. He stressed that the frozen assets have allowed the EU to change “the financial logic” of aid, making it possible to “give money directly to Ukraine.”

The Supreme Court of Canada will not hear People's Party Leader Maxime Bernier and former Progressive Conservative premier of Newfoundland Brian Peckford's appeals over the vaccine mandate imposed on air travellers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

From Nov. 30, 2021, to June 20, 2022, all air and rail passengers travelling within Canada or leaving Canada were required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Bernier and Peckford filed judicial reviews taking issue with those rules, but the mandates were suspended before a hearings could take place.

The Federal Court struck down the judicial review applications on the basis that the issue had become moot, ruling that hearing a review of a mandate that no longer existed was not warranted.

The Federal Court of Appeal also dismissed the cases in a decision that said the Federal Court had "correctly identified the approach on a motion to strike for mootness," according to a Supreme Court summary of the case. Continue…

Researchers analyzing 651 products from 10 U.S. grocery chains discovered that 60 percent of the processed foods fell short of nutritional requirements set by the World Health Organization (WHO). The foods sampled were intended for children 6 to 36 months old.

“The lowest compliance was found for total protein and total sugar, with over 70% of products failing to meet protein requirements and 44% exceeding total sugar recommendations,” the researchers wrote in the study published last week in the journal Nutrients.

“Infant formulas, fortified milk, and oral electrolytes were not included because the U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulates these products separately,” the authors added.

The note, authored by Martin Eichenbaum, Michelle Alexopoulos, and Jeremy M. Kronick, said that the United States’ labour productivity has grown around 100% since 1985. In contrast, Canada has only grown 40%, making Canadian workers 70% as productive as workers in the United States.

“We’re not just falling behind the US — the growth rate of our productivity is well below that of the UK, Germany, and France,” reads the note.

Nearly $1 million worth of drugs and cell phones were confiscated at a maximum-security federal institution, on Aug. 19, according to the Correctional Service of Canada.

The federal agency issued a press release on Monday confirming the estimated value of the seized contraband and unauthorized items at Edmonton Institution was $917,400. The items included THC, crystal methamphetamine, and cell phones.

The Correctional Services of Canada said the confiscation was “a result of the vigilance of staff members.”

The agency responsible for jailing and rehabilitating criminal offenders sentenced to two years or more said that the police have been informed and that the institution is investigating.

The WHO failed to draft the pandemic treaty before the May 2024 deadline, as its world assembly member states could not agree unanimously on the articles of the agreement. The treaty was supposed to give the WHO authority to direct the public health responses of its 194 member nations. The WHO has stated that its failure to draft the treaty was a setback and it will attempt to pass the treaty in the future.

Before the draft failed to reach a consensus, Conservative MP Leslyn Lewis advocated against the treaty saying it would infringe on Canada’s sovereignty by giving undue powers over Canada’s health response to the WHO.

China is launching an anti-dumping investigation into Canadian canola imports in response to tariffs recently imposed on imports of Chinese electric vehicles, steel, aluminum and other related components last week.

The Chinese commerce ministry said in a statement released on Tuesday that Canadian canola exports, also called rapeseed, had been steadily increasing in recent years, up 170% on a year-on-year basis resulting in a “continuous decline in prices.”

China claims this was evidence of potential dumping behaviour, causing imports to cost less compared to the price on the domestic market, hurting local producers.

“Affected by unfair competition from the Canadian side, China’s domestic rapeseed-related industries continue to lose money,” it said.

The statement made it clear that the investigation was in retaliation for Ottawa’s EV tariffs, calling them “discriminatory unilateral restrictive measures.”

Staffing shortages led to five B.C. emergency rooms being closed over the long weekend

Five B.C. hospital emergency rooms were closed during the long weekend due to being short staffed, according to several news releases which cited “limited physician availability.”

The Interior Health Authority announced that the emergency rooms at 100 Mile District, Nicola Valley, Lillooet, Cariboo Memorial and South Okanagan hospitals were all closed as a result of the staffing shortage, however, most have since reopened.

The closures follow a growing trend for B.C. hospitals that William Lake Coun. Scott Nelson has called a “worrisome” situation.

“Instead of [the Interior Health] posting when they’re closing, how about they just post when they’re open,” Nelson told CBC News over the long weekend.

Emergency room closures at both 100 Mile House and Williams Lake forced residents to have to travel to neighbouring communities for help, according to Nelson.

“There are 10 to 15,000 people that don’t have a doctor [in our region], so they rely on the emergency department for services,” he said. Continue…

FDA Authorizes New COVID-19 Vaccine Without Clinical Data

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized a new COVID-19 vaccine from Novavax, giving Americans an alternative to shots from Moderna and Pfizer.

Novavax’s protein-based vaccine will be available soon after regulators granted emergency authorization to the Maryland-based company for the product.

FDA officials said that animal testing data supported the decision.

“Today’s authorization provides an additional COVID-19 vaccine option that meets the FDA’s standards for safety, effectiveness and manufacturing quality needed to support emergency use authorization,” Dr. Peter Marks, who directs the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, said in an Aug. 30 statement.

The FDA cleared vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer that are built on messenger ribonucleic acid technology (mRNA) earlier in the month.

Critics say that the agency should not be making an assertion about safety and effectiveness in the absence of clinical trial data.

“The assertion rings hollow when FDA has not required manufacturers of the mRNA biological [products] to provide scientific evidence to the public that safety and effectiveness has been demonstrated,” Barbara Loe Fisher, co-founder and president of the National Vaccine Information Center, told The Epoch Times previously via email.

Alberta sees decline in opioid-related deaths, reaching pre-pandemic levels for first time

Opioid deaths in Alberta have reached their lowest level since before the pandemic, according to the province’s most recently released data on opioid-related fatalities in May.

In May, 18.4 Albertans per 100,000 people lost their lives to opioid use across the province. A lower rate was not seen since Feb. 2020, when 11.4 Albertans per 100,000 died from opioid poisoning. The World Health Organization declared the pandemic on Mar. 11, 2020.

In total, 72 Albertans died from opioid use in May 2024. Feb. 2020 saw 42 Albertans die from opioid use, spiking to 71 in Mar. 2020, 80 in Apr. 2020, and 128 in May 2020. The number of total deaths in the province did not fall below 100 in any month between May 2020 and Mar. 2024.

A spokesperson for Alberta’s Minister of Mental Health and Addiction said that Alberta has taken steps to engage with communities to assess the impact of drug consumption sites throughout the province.

“This is what led Alberta to be the first jurisdiction in Canada to establish recovery-oriented standards for drug consumption sites, making them much more accountable to government and community. An Ontario school hid a student’s gender transition from her parents and when they found out and objected, the school brought the wrath of the Children’s Aid Society down on them, the National Post reported.

Julie (at 10 years old) first began to question her gender identity during the Covid pandemic, when she was isolated from other students, doing classes online and spending a lot of time on social media, especially TikTok, where she “discovered the LGBTQ+ community.”

“At first, it was only my sexuality: pansexual, lesbian, maybe bi?” the girl later revealed in a personal essay. She became more engrossed in the online material and agreed that she was feeling “anxious and uncomfortable” about her body and it prompted her to question her gender.

“Transgender activists were actively posting videos about ‘safe’ breast binding and how euphoric testosterone makes you feel and how it makes all your problems suddenly disappear. The more I was brainwashed by these videos, the more I started to resonate with them,” she wrote.

Julie started to privately identify as non-binary in 2021, as she began grade 5. She announced her decision to her class early in 2022.

A teacher at the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) assisted in her “transition” and ensured that her parents were never informed about her choice of “they/them” pronouns and a different, male name that she answered to in the classroom. When the parents demanded to be at least included in the discussion, the school called the Children’s Aid Society (CAS), which immediately began harassing the parents.

In December 2023, Julie detransitioned after the revelation that she had been subsumed by the gender ideology hype and was discouraged from examining her anxiety from the perspective of mental health. But her parents have been warning other families that schools assume they have the right to overrule and ignore parents and then call in the authorities to punish them when they demand the rights of parents. Although the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party secured a first-place finish in the Saxony elections on Sunday, the party is still launching an investigation into an alleged computer error that cost them a seat in parliament and is also calling for an end to mail-in votes, citing security concerns and shady practices.

The first issue is the alleged software glitch that resulted in the AfD and the Christian Democrats (CDU) both losing a seat, while the Greens and Social Democrats (SPD) both gained one seat. The party says that it is launching an investigation into this.

“We want to know exactly what went wrong,” said the AfD’s state and parliamentary group leader Jörg Urban in a statement. He is demanding an exact error analysis. “If there are any irregularities, we will take legal action.”

Notably, the loss of one seat resulted in the AfD losing its blocking majority, which would have allowed the party, for example, to block the appointment of certain judges in the state. Continue…

The DOJ has accused several conservative influencers of unwittingly working for a Kremlin-funded media outlet.

A federal indictment unsealed on Wednesday alleges that a Tennessee-based media company, later identified as Tenet Media, received nearly $10 million from employees of Russian state-backed media company, Russia Today (RT), as part of "a scheme to create and distribute content to U.S. audiences with hidden Russian government messaging."

The DOJ claims that RT and two of its employees - Kostiantyn “Kostya” Kalashnikov and Elena “Lena” Afanasyeva - worked to funnel money to Tenet Media as part of a series of "covert projects" aimed at shaping narratives within Western audiences.

The indictment specifically notes that the influencers - including Tim Pool, Benny Johnson, Dave Rubin and Lauren Southern - had no idea they were taking Russian money, and were deceived. They were told by Tenet founder Lauren Chen - who allegedly knew the true source of the funds - that the money was from a wealthy private investor named "Eduard Grigoriann." Continue…

Another overnight Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine included major strikes on the far western city of Lviv, which lies hundreds of miles from the front lines, which resulted in seven people killed, according to Ukrainian authorities.

These stepped-up strikes are widely viewed as retaliation for Kiev forces' ongoing Kursk cross-border offensive. But given that missiles rained down so close in proximity to Ukraine's border with Poland, Polish aerial forces were scrambled during the attack.

LGBTQ activists are calling for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step down from running in the next federal election, claiming that his lack of support is putting their community at risk.

Group advocates argue that the Conservatives’ commanding lead in the polls will likely see Pierre Poilievre elected the new prime minister after the next election, slated for October 2025 which they claim would be dangerous for the LGBTQ community.

Executive director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Queer Research Initiative Sarah Worthman said that she’s worried about what potential harm a Conservative government could cause for LGBTQ Canadians.

She noted Poilievre’s stance on puberty blockers for minors and comments he made that “female spaces should be exclusively for females, not for biological males.”

Worthman said the Liberals would fare better in an election against the Conservatives if Trudeau was not leading the charge, however, she did not endorse an alternative candidate, reported the Canadian Press. Continue…

Two arrested in Canada-wide human trafficking investigation, facing 36 charges

Two people are now facing dozens of charges in connection with a human trafficking investigation that began in Ontario and led police as far as Nova Scotia.

One of the two charged in the 10-month-long investigation is a resident of Brampton, Ont.

The Provincial Human Trafficking Intelligence-led Joint Forces Strategy launched Project Nebula last September to investigate reports of suspected human trafficking.

The investigation consisted of a total of 20 police agencies working in tandem across the province, including Kingston, Ottawa, Peel, Toronto, Windsor and York.

While the investigation was first launched in eastern Ontario, authorities were then led to southern Ontario, Quebec, and ultimately Nova Scotia. Continue…

Calgary city councillors and Mayor Jyoti Gondek are furious with the Alberta government after the province announced they would pull $1.53 billion in funding for the city’s Green Line LRT project.

In a Sept. 3 letter, Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors Minister Devin Dreeshen called the revised Green Line plan “unacceptable,” stating that the project had become a “multi-billion-dollar boondoggle that will serve very few Calgarians.”

Dreeshen also criticized former Calgary Mayor and current provincial NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi.

“To be clear, we recognize your and the current Council’s efforts to try and salvage the untenable position you’ve been placed in by the former Mayor and his utter failure to competently oversee the planning, design, and implementation of a cost-effective transit plan that could have served hundreds of thousands of Calgarians in the city’s southern and northern communities,” he wrote.

Calgary city council spent much of Wednesday debating the uncertain future of the Green Line LRT project, directing their frustration at the province.

“I lay the blame squarely at the feet of the province for not doing their work and having appropriate conversations with the experts that we have working on this project to understand what it is we are delivering and how we can best deliver it to meet everybody’s goals,” Calgary Councillor Kourtney Penner said. BREAKING: Hunter Biden Changes Plea to GUILTY in Tax Fraud Case

Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has entered a guilty plea in his federal tax fraud case. The entry of the guilty plea is not believed to be part of a plea deal with the Department of Justice (DOJ). Specifically, Biden’s attorneys filed an Alford plea in which their client acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to convict him, though he does not formally admit to the criminal acts.

In January of this year, Hunter Biden was arraigned on nine federal tax charges in Los Angeles on January 11. DOJ Special prosecutor David Weiss alleges Joe Biden’s son “[E]ngaged in a four-year scheme to not pay at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016 through 2019” and “spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle at the same time he chose not to pay his taxes.”

Reports suggest Joe Biden is considering pardoning his son in his tax and firearms cases, or commuting his sentences. Such a move would be less immediately damaging to the Democrat politically now he is not running for reelection.This story is developing.

Liberal govt official found guilty of transferring public funds to his private company

A public servant was found guilty of breach of trust last week after he admitted to transferring nearly $250,000 of taxpayer funds to his privately owned company.

The RCMP announced that Marc Primeau, a former Liberal government employee who was responsible for the transport of goods at Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, has received a 24-month conditional sentence for breach of trust.

According to the police, Primeau inappropriately used his position as an ISED employee to direct purchases totalling $231,663.48 from the government agency to his personal and solely owned company Access Security Logistix, between Feb. 1, 2016, and Sept. 26, 2018.

The RCMP began investigating after changes to ISED’s internal accounting and record-keeping practices led to the discovery that Primeau purchased goods from his personal company with taxpayer funds. He was dismissed from his job at ISED in February 2019, and the evidence was handed off to the RCMP for investigation.

Primeau admitted to directing 72 sole-source contracts to ASL in an agreed statement of facts while successfully competing for six purchase orders.

“Primeau was the person responsible for ensuring that goods were properly received from ASL to ISED while concealing his relationship with ASL from ISED,” the news release said. Continue…

The Liberal’s national campaign director has quit his role ahead of the next election because he believes that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau cannot win a fourth term, sources say.

The Liberals’ federal campaign director Jeremy Broadhurst privately told Trudeau that he would be leaving the position last month, anonymous sources reported to the Toronto Star.

Broadhurst allegedly told the prime minister that he didn’t think he could win the next election and that Trudeau should acquire a new campaign director who did think a fourth term was possible.

According to one source within the Liberal party, Broadhurst also told Trudeau that he no longer had the fight in him to continue.

News of his departure was allegedly kept from many senior staff and caucus until recently.
