An important story developed this weekend, unspooling in real time on Twitter over a Friday evening. Basically, billionaire Elon Musk gave a good friend of mine — the journalist Matt Taibbi — extensive access to Twitter’s internal e-mails and communications, and told Taibbi he could start sharing.

What ensued was an epic takedown of Twitter, delivered on Twitter, in what was ultimately a 41-Tweet thread. It was parceled out as fast as Taibbi could post, side by side with readers commenting in real time — offering responses ranging from “wow!” to “this is garbage”, claims that history was being made before our eyes countered by sarcastic gifs of a sesame seed bun with no hamburger inside, and quite a few variations of the line: “This is fun! Twitter is fun again!”

Twitter executives — under the watchful eyes of their FBI colleagues — were left all alone to try to sort through this moment. I almost feel sorry for them when I think of it. Did the professional journalists of America step up to help? Please. Sadly, the more “respectable” a news media is, the fewer ethics it still has. What about our politicians? Taibbi could find only a single Congressional Democrat, the reliable Ro Khanna, who would reach out to Twitter to ask about the First Amendment implications of censoring a major newspaper story of critical public interest.

Caribbean Clone Lab Offers ET Religion

Valiant Venture, an offshoot of a group that believes humans descended from clones created by extraterrestrials, wants you to make a US$200,000 investment in a new you.

HUMAN CLONING MAY still be a technique of the future, but for US$200,000 you can lay claim to your own clone today. Members of the ET-oriented Rael Movement say they have founded Valiant Venture Ltd., a Bahamas-based company devoted to replicating those who can afford it.

VV offers two services: Clonaid, for those who want to parent an exact twin of themselves; and Insuraclone, for parents who want to safeguard the DNA of their child by simply freezing blood or skin cells, and then spawn a clone should the child pass away. (Out of respect for bereft parents, this service is only $50,000.)

Although "a lot of people don't want to do cloning in human beings," says VV biologist Marc Rivard, according to surveys in the US and Canada, "10 percent do want to do it."

But despite various press conferences, two press releases, a Web page, and marketing-friendly brand names, VV hasn't gotten much respect from the media, investors, or the scientific community since its launch in March (just two weeks after the sheep Dolly, the first successful clone of an adult mammal, was unveiled to the world). One reason: Most scientists agree that safe human cloning technology is still years away.

Another reason is that Rael, head of both VV and the Rael Movement, preaches that humans descended from clones created by extraterrestrials, and that his mother, like the Virgin Mary, was inseminated by these same extraterrestrials. The movement claims 35,000 followers in 85 countries.

"It seems they're a little bit nuts," says Gregory Stock, a fellow at the UCLA Center for the Study of Evolution and the Origin of Life. "I've noticed a lot of reaction to cloning as a path to immortality - that seems to be their take."

Indeed, toward the bottom of the Clonaid Web site, Rael is quoted as saying, "Cloning will enable mankind to reach eternal life. The next step … will be to directly clone adult people without the growing process, and to transfer memory and personality."

"That's nonsense," Stock says.

Nonetheless, some of the ideas aren't totally otherworldly and may, in time, be pursued by mainstream groups. For example, two of the goals of VV's staff of five, which includes two PhDs, are simply to change the public's perception of human cloning as evil and to foster research.

"What we saw after the announcement of Dolly was that a lot of people wanted to banish cloning," says Rivard, pointing out that President Clinton even withdrew federal funds for such research. "It [Valiant Venture] is a way to fund research of human cloning" - which explains the steep price. Rivard says that money would go to existing laboratories doing such research, or toward the creation of Valiant Ventures' own lab.

"To me, it's interesting that it clicks in people's heads that this is possible," Stock says. "[Genetic manipulation] is coming faster than we think. It's important in our society that we deal with this, and it's naive to think we're not going to apply these technologies to ourselves … it's natural to get a fringe group that tries to get ahead of the curve."

Rivard would not say if anyone had bought one of Valiant Venture's services yet.

Tesla is widely considered by his biographers to have been a humanist in philosophical outlook. This did not preclude Tesla, like many of his era, from becoming a proponent of an imposed selective breeding version of eugenics.

Tesla expressed the belief that human "pity" had come to interfere with the natural "ruthless workings of nature". Though his argumentation did not depend on a concept of a "master race" or the inherent superiority of one person over another, he advocated for eugenics. In a 1937 interview he stated:

… man's new sense of pity began to interfere with the ruthless workings of nature. The only method compatible with our notions of civilization and the race is to prevent the breeding of the unfit by sterilization and the deliberate guidance of the mating instinct … The trend of opinion among eugenists is that we must make marriage more difficult. Certainly no one who is not a desirable parent should be permitted to produce progeny. A century from now it will no more occur to a normal person to mate with a person eugenically unfit than to marry a habitual criminal.[276]

In 1926, Tesla commented on the ills of the social subservience of women and the struggle of women toward gender equality, and indicated that humanity's future would be run by "Queen Bees". He believed that women would become the dominant sex in the future.[277]

Tesla made predictions about the relevant issues of a post-World War I environment in a printed article entitled "Science and Discovery are the great Forces which will lead to the Consummation of the War" (20 December 1914).[278] Tesla believed that the League of Nations was not a remedy for the times and issues.[26][better source needed]

Tesla was raised an Orthodox Christian. Later in life he did not consider himself to be a "believer in the orthodox sense", said he opposed religious fanaticism, and said "Buddhism and Christianity are the greatest religions both in number of disciples and in importance."[279] He also said "To me, the universe is simply a great machine which never came into being and never will end" and "what we call 'soul' or 'spirit,' is nothing more than the sum of the functionings of the body. When this functioning ceases, the 'soul' or the 'spirit' ceases likewise."

Subjects are Caucasian children tested from 6 to 12 years of age. This first report of the IQ QTL Project presents allelic association results for 46 two-allele markers and for 26 comparisons for 14 multiple-allele markers. Two markers yielded significant (p < .01) allelic frequency differences between the high- and the low-IQ groups in the combined sample-a new HLA marker for a gene unique to the human species and a new brain-expressed triplet repeat marker (CTGB33). The prospects for harnessing the power of molecular genetic techniques to identify QTL for quantitative dimensions of human behavior are discussed.

• Both had separate clashes with Loomer, in 2022 and 2020, respectively. Yiannopoulos and Giorno dismissed Loomer’s criticisms as the result of their falling out.

• Loomer was one of the first high-profile right-wing activists banned from Twitter in 2018, after calling one of the nation’s first Muslim congresswomen, Democrat Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, “anti Jewish” and attacking Islam for abusing women.

• Loomer also criticized Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., for being complicit in the alleged Trump setup because she is an ally of Yiannopoulos and had hired him as a summer intern.

• A spokesperson for Greene denied the accusation of her involvement but declined to comment further to NBC News; Greene fired back at Loomer on her Telegram social media channel. Greene also has a Fuentes connection: She spoke at his America First Political Action confab in Florida in February but then said she didn’t know who he was.

• Giorno said she had been caught in the blast radius of the dinner with Ye and Fuentes but was an unwitting participant.On the night she drove the crew to Mar-a-Lago, she said, she didn’t realize there was going to be a confrontation and she didn’t have time to call or text anyone with a heads-upbecause Ye’s flight landed about 5 p.m., in the middle of the South Florida metropolis’ rush hour on a rainy day. It took the party three hours to get to Mar-a-Lago, double what it normally takes. (This is bullshit, she could have asked the President for a minute of his time before he took them into the Dining Room. She was a 30 year political consultant, where there’s a will there is a way.

• About halfway to Mar-a-Lago, Giorno said in an interview, she realized that Ye, Fuentes and the other man weren’t properly attired.

• “All of you are wearing jeans. Did they not tell you about the dress code?” she said she asked.

• Ye said he hadn’t been informed and that “I doubt Nick is going to get in anyway.”

• “Nick,” she said she asked, “what’s your last name?” Fuentes gave his last name.

• “I’m going to kill Milo,” Giorno said she thought. Giorno kept driving and said they would probably have trouble getting into Mar-a-Lago because of private security and Secret Service. Giorno said she also realized she had forgotten her driver’s license, so she had to use a credit card with her name on it to prove her identity to get in.

• Because she had Ye in her car and she is a frequent visitor to the property, having attended Trump’s campaign announcement seven days before, Giorno said, the four of them were able to get in.

• Trump met the party in the foyer and warmly greeted everyone, but he was puzzled that his old adviser was somehow with Ye, Giorno said. Giorno said she tried to leave Trump with Ye privately.

• “Sir, it’s really good to see you again,” she said she told Trump. “My understanding is you’re supposed to have a private meeting with Ye and I’m happy to go to the bar with these two guys while you have dinner.” (again bullshit). But Trump deferred.

• “I’ll leave that to Ye. Do you want them to join?” Trump asked, according to Giorno.

• “Yes,” Ye replied. “Let’s all eat.”

• “Great,” Trump said. “Let’s go out to the patio.”
