im my opinion, and historically the position of the board generally is that deletion and banning is an EXTREME last resort

and only to be used in the case of potential legal liability to the board

as in, you would delete material that is defined as illegal in the countries our servers operate in (in our case, the Unites States...... right?)

and it would stand to reason, that a repeat offender, posting illegal content, would be banned

and thus

you would have an affirmitive defense in the case law enforcement asks "what you did about it"

the ban wont prevent the user from circumventing it

and you cant prevent illegal content from being posted before it happens

but at least you have an affirmative defense

any deletions or bannings beyond that are capricious and have no defensible reason for being applied

So, an event happened at the end of 2020

I am not bringing up the event to accuse anyone of anything

but it was the context of posts that have been deleted in bread #19937, so I will be referencing it here

the event in question:

the deliberate "salting" of a benign news story that was notable at the time with an overt bomb threat

as in

the copypasta of a news story that woud likely be considered notable at the time was editied in the middle of the body

a bomb threat on a specific location at a specific time was typed in the middle of a paragraph where it would have been difficult to notice

this "story" was then posted in a /qresearch/ bread, and was nominated as notable

this was an attempt to get the baker on duty to bake this bomb threat into the notables

the baker on duty DID in fact bake it into the notables, as they did not notice the bomb threat it had been "salted" with

in the end, it was OSS that in fact noticed the bomb threat, and informed the baker, who immediately removed it

OSS did in fact have the screenshots of the conversation where this was planned

the conversation did in fact happen in the /comms/ board

I am not making a value judgement on the above entities

I am not implying either should be revered or derided

I am merely making a statement of fact, based on an event I witnessed

I am not going to make any claim as to the motives

but this event did happen

re CHAOS -

there was maximum chaos when oss was active and fj let that happen. It is much less chaotic now because of restoration of global announcements, standardized notable formatting, use of handoff protocols, cleaner catalog, and deletion of illegal spam from main board and side boards (pedo bear) - so we don't get deplatformed for "harboring" such content.

DOAR and later HM/OSS have been attacking this board. The Q is: how to deal with those attacks?

If anyone had dared posted their entire notables from another board in QR as spam, OSS would have done a PERMABAN in a second. He permabanned at least 1000 anons for NO REASON. Anons had NO WAY to appeal those bans with 8kun admin. Now they do.

When a hostile group (often but not always OSS) posts attack messages as spam, should admins sit back and allow it? Is that what anons really want? It is certainly an option. But is it the best option?

Spam is not free speech. Have no problems deleting it. But only to the extent it is wanted by anons as a whole.

However, most anons are silent - do not reeeee much about anything. Just do the work.

Shills are loud, always complaining. Not seeking solutions.

There are also anons who speak up with legit concerns - those are the voices that should be heard. Even so, they may or may not represent most anons (who tend to say their piece when the louder voices are quiet).

Admins are trying to find the balance between too much deleting/banning and none at all.

Previously, the spam posted was by those who had nothing to do with QR (muh masons, muh joos, others). Mostly ignored by admins, who also ignored requests for catalog cleanup, renumbering of breads, and locking of dup baker.

Much of the current spam is from OSS and minions. Completely new scenario.

There have been many other Q boards besides this one - HM is the only board that has ever done a full frontal attack on Q Research. Before that, FJ and OSS was hostile to 8kun admin - FJ doxxed JW convo a long time ago. They are a generally hostile group who never cleaned up QR.

So we are listening to the feedback and are seeking CONSTRUCTIVE solutions.I have outlined the problem above.

IMO, letting chaos reign (completely) will not work. OSS showed us that. Discovering the balance between chaos and order is where we are at.

Right now, board admins have backed off completely - just watching. Still deleting illegal content but not much else. Where do we go from here?

There is no policy written in stone at this point, just efforts to deal with a new kind of problem. Appreciate your concern and that of other anons genuinely seeking solutions.

OSS is the baker who is banned, both from baking and posting due to repeated efforts to subvert the board.

Other baker is daily baker trying to protect the board bc it has been under attack. Earlier today, some baker posted incomplete dough that had to be reconstructed. When irresponsible or shill bakers are in charge, bakers or admins have to repair the damage.

The question is: What is the best way to protect the work while at the same time being as open as possible to bakers?

Admins cannot be here 24/7 to "vet" bakers. And if they were, it would not work for occasional bakers. We appreciate all bakers. Sorry you had a bad experience but it is not personal.

Anons have asked about board deletions and bans -

On Feb 15, I sent this out to all BVs for QR -

Bans are for 3 to 7 days for spam, make sure to specify or else they are forever. [They can also be for less time but not more.]

On Mar 6, after a bread was accidentally deleted, sent another email out encouraging BVs to be careful about deleting spam so that accidents like this do not happen.

bottom line -

It's more important to have the support and confidence of anon than to eliminate spam.

This morning I sent BVs a reminder of these policies. Along with this -

USE PERMABANS ONLY FOR ILLEGAL CONTENT - NEVER FOR SPAM OR "JUST BECAUSE".

Am in the process of a more thorough guide for deletions and bans. Meanwhile, this is the policy. It is CRITICAL that we have a consistent and conservative policy regarding BANS and that all of us follow it.

It takes time to develop policies because it's first necessary to see what works and what doesn't. Have been watching a lot to answer these questions.

Deletions can be useful for intensive spamming or for spam or other content that is reported by anons. Bans are used for illegal content as a matter of 8kun policy and may also be used for persistent spamming but only for a limited time. The problems caused by bans are now mitigated by the existence of a ban appeal process addressed to 8kun admins but it is existing policy to use them conservatively. BVs have just been reminded of this so things should smooth out in the future.

That said, when baking, you represent all anons, not just yourself.

If your views diverge too much from those of most anons, and your notables reflect this, they will object.

If there is a perceived shill in the bakery and there's no BV around and the shill is causing mass chaos I'll try to steal the bake (mainly to get eyes on), but let me emphasize - it is LAST RESORT ONLY. I've done it once since the new board staff appeared and it cleared up some baking rules that some were bending to benefit them greatly but anons benefitted very little.
