Ex-IDF generals, top Mossad officials urge Biden to return to Iran deal

Former senior defense officials express support for Biden's position not to lift Iran sanctions unless it returns to 2015 deal

A group of former top officials from the Israel’s Atomic Energy Commission, the IDF and the Mossad sent a letter on Monday to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressing support for a US return to the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.

Led by former deputy IDF chief of staff Matan Vilnai, Commanders for Israel’s Security said in the letter that it “welcomes the American initiative to get Iran to again transparently follow the guidelines in the JCPOA as long as it includes an Iranian commitment to abide by the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (regarding development of ballistic missiles.”

In addition to Vilnai, the letter was signed by former Mossad director Tamir Pardo, former head of the IDF Operations Directorate Maj.-Gen. (res.) Nitzan Alon, former head of the National Security Council Uzi Arad and former principal deputy director general for policy at the Israeli Atomic Energy Commission Eli Levite.

The former senior defense officials expressed support for President Joe Biden’s current position not to lift sanctions on Iran unless it returns to abide by the 2015 deal. It said that first the goal needs to be to get Iran back into compliance and then to work on a follow-up deal that would fill the holes in the JCPOA.

“This will take into account new information that has been accumulated since the JCPOA as well as additional problems that Iran presents,” the letter said.

It was not the first time that the group has come out against Netanyahu’s efforts to stop the JCPOA. Ahead of the signing of the 2015 deal, the group called on Netanyahu to cancel his speech to the US Congress.

Former deputy head of the Mossad Amiram Levin said then that while it was difficult for him to speak out against Netanyahu, who served under him in the IDF, the prime minister's navigation was off.

"Leaders speak privately, not out in the open,” he said. “The visit and the speech are exactly the opposite of that. Rather than working hand in hand with the US president we are going there and sticking our thumb in his eye. That hurts not only the president, but, above all, it hurts the citizens of the US that are fans of Israel, but first and foremost are Americans."

Biden’s Interior nominee failed to report casino income on congressional ethics report

Rep. Deb Haaland failed to report nearly a third of her 2018 earnings, according to newly amended ethics report.

The Democratic congresswoman named by President Biden to be the next interior secretary failed to disclose on her House ethics report $16,000 in casino salary that made up more than a third of her income in 2018 when she first won her congressional seat, according to an amended report she filed as her nomination was being vetted.

Rep. Deb Haaland (D-N.M.), who would be America's first Native American cabinet secretary if her nomination is approved, faces a confirmation hearing Tuesday before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

Republicans such as Sen. Steve Daines of Montana are expected to grill Haaland about her relative lack of management experience and her views on the environment and energy, which they have labeled as radical.

The change that Haaland made on her 2018 congressional ethics form last month may open another avenue of inquiry for Republicans.

Haaland, a member of the Laguna Pueblo Nation in New Mexico, has been one of the most modestly earning members in Congress since she joined in January 2019.

The financial disclosure form she filed for interior secretary shows she had no income in 2020 beyond her congressional salary and a $175 distribution payment from her tribe. She also reported owning no assets, and carrying up to $50,000 in student loan debts, a balance sheet dwarfed by those of the preponderance of members of Congress, the majority of whom are millionaires.

After she joined Congress in 2019, Haaland reported on her House ethics form dated May 13, 2019 that her only source of income in 2018 was $30,550 as an independent contractor for her tribe’s Laguna Development Corp. She also listed no liabilities on the form.

But on Jan. 5 of this year, she quietly filed an amendment to the 2019 form adding $16,000 in "salary" from the San Felipe Casino, a gambling outlet near Santa Fe run by the San Felipe Pueblo. The casino recently changed its name to Black Mesa Casino.

The amendment also listed student loan debts of between $15,001 and $50,000 that were not on her 2019 form.

Spokespeople for Haaland, Daines and Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming, the ranking Republican on the committee, did not immediately return emails or calls seeking comment .

Kansas Bill Would Make Gold And Silver Legal Tender In The State

A bill introduced in the Kansas House would recognize gold and silver specie as legal tender and repeal all taxes levied on it. The legislation would pave the way for Kansans to use gold and silver in everyday transactions, a foundational step for the people to undermine the Federal Reserve’s monopoly on money.

The Federal Reserve is the engine that drives the most powerful government in the history of the world. Ron Paul popularized the slogan “End the Fed,” but Congress is nowhere near abolishing the central bank. It can’t even come up with the will to audit the Fed.

Even though state action can’t end the Fed, there are steps states can take that will undermine the Federal Reserve’s monopoly on money. By passing laws that encourage and incentivize the use of gold and silver in daily transactions by the general public, policy changes at the state level such as the Kansas Legal Tender Act has the potential to create a wide-reaching impact and set the foundation to nullify the Fed’s monopoly power over the monetary system.

A coalition of four Republicans introduced House Bill 2123 (HB2123) on Jan. 25. The legislation would make gold and silver legal tender in the state, recognizing it as a medium of exchange for the payment of debts and taxes. In effect, gold and silver specie would be treated as money, putting it on par with Federal Reserve notes in Kansas.

Under the proposed law, “Legal tender” means a recognized medium of exchange for the payment of debts and taxes. Specie legal tender would be defined as:

(a) Specie coin issued by the United States government at any time; or

(b) any other specie that a court of competent jurisdiction, by final and unappealable order, rules to be within state authority to make or designate as legal tender

By allowing the court to designate additional specie to be used as legal tender, Kansas could free its citizens from potential supply constraints imposed by the use of only United States minted gold and silver coin. More importantly, the people of the state of Kansas would be able to define what specie is considered constitutional tender, further distancing themselves from potential control of their competing currency by Washington D.C.

Practically speaking, the passage of HB2123 would allow residents to use gold or silver coins to pay taxes and other debts owed to the state. In effect, it would put gold and silver on the same footing as Federal Reserve notes.

HB2123 would also repeal property and capital gains taxes on gold and silver.

“No specie or legal tender shall be characterized as personal property for taxation or regulatory purposes.”

Passage of this bill would build on a foundation set in 2019 when Kansas repealed the sales tax on gold and silver.

Kansas could become the fourth state to recognize gold and silver as legal tender. Utah led the way, reestablishing constitutional money in 2011. Wyoming and Oklahoma have since joined.

8 Companies Paying Workers To Get The COVID Vaccine

As the COVID-19 vaccine continues to roll out to eligible recipients, many companies are offering their workers pay in exchange for vaccinations.

From paid time off to cash incentives, grocers and retailers are making it as easy as possible for their frontline workers to get the vaccine without missing work or having to take unpaid time off for a shot appointment.

Frontline workers are part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Phase 1b group of individuals to receive the COVID shot, which also includes firefighters, police officers, corrections officers, food and agricultural workers, post office employees, manufacturing workers, public transit workers, and educational employees.

While many areas of the U.S. are still just vaccinating those that are 65 and old and those with underlying health conditions, the COVID vaccine is expected to be offered to the Phase 1b group soon as the supply of the shot warrants.

The CDC said it has administered over 63 million doses of the COVID vaccine to over 43.6 million people to date. Over 18.8 million people have received two doses of the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNtech shot.

With the next phased-in approach of inoculations, these eight companies will begin paying employees that choose to receive their COVID shot.

Aldi announced that it will give its hourly workers two hours of pay for each vaccine dose that they receive, equaling up to four hours of paid time off for shot appointments. The grocer also said it will provide scheduling flexibility for vaccine appointments and “cover costs associated with vaccine administration.”

“Since the onset of the pandemic, our entire Aldi team has worked to keep stores safe and stocked, and serve communities without interruption,” said Jason Hart, CEO at Aldi U.S. “Providing accommodations so employees can receive this critical vaccine is one more way we can support them and eliminate the need to choose between earning their wages and protecting their well-being.”

First Government Launches Green Pass For Vaccinated

The Health Ministry on Thursday launched the long-awaited “Green Pass” certificate which will enable those vaccinated or recovered from the coronavirus to take part in various activities. At the same time, the ministry warned of serious legal penalties for those who falsify the passes.

Health Minister Yuli Edelstein, Ministry Director-General Chezy Levy, and other health officials presented the new certification and demonstrated the methods of issuing the QR-code-secured pass, which has been the target of skepticism following reports demonstrating how easy it is to falsify.

Cabinet ministers on Monday approved the reopening of stores, gyms, hotels, and other venues starting Sunday, in a major easing of sweeping lockdown measures meant to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Street-front shops, malls, markets, museums, and libraries will be open to all Israelis. But only those who have been vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 will be able to use gyms and pools, attend sporting and culture events, and stay at hotels.

To be allowed to open Sunday, relevant businesses must undertake to scan for the pass and only accept those carrying it.

In a further easing of restrictions, the Health Ministry and the Prime Minister’s Office said Tuesday that the government will allow outdoor gatherings of up to 20 people, and indoor gatherings of up to 10, starting Friday morning. The previous rules restricted outdoor gatherings to 10 people and indoors to five.

Those eligible will be able to get the Green Pass using three methods starting Sunday, February 21:

Downloading the Traffic Light (Ramzor) app on Google Play or the Apple App Store, entering personal details and getting the pass on one’s phone.

Signing up on the Health Ministry website and downloading a printable personal document.

Calling the Health Ministry’s hotline at *5400 and having the pass sent by email or fax.

“The vaccinated and recovered will be able to enter gyms, events, hotels, and synagogues that are registered under the Green Pass certificate from Sunday,” Edelstein said. “This is how the first stage will look in the return to your almost normal lives.”

Still, he stressed the importance of continuing to wear masks — even those who’ve received both vaccine doses.

The pass has already been criticized as easy to counterfeit. A black market for fake certificates is thriving on Telegram, where more than 100,000 users have joined groups that offer the forgeries at a price, Channel 12 News reported.

In response, Edelstein stated, “Those who think this a game and print a vaccination certificate without being vaccinated will be caught and their activities may end with them in jail.”

Sting operation in Anderson ends with two arrests for sex trafficking

ANDERSON, Calif. — Two men were arrested after Anderson Police Department carried out a sting operation targeting sex traffickers. The operation was set up at an Anderson motel with Anderson police and a multi-agency human trafficking operation team. During this operation, known prostitution websites were utilized to solicit commercial sex acts from providers that were likely under the control of pimps or traffickers. The operation also provided services to the victims of human trafficking.

Saturday around 5 p.m. police arrested 28-year-old Ravanaur Gohleston from Yuba City. Police said he arrived at the motel in a vehicle along with two young women who were there to engage in prostitution. One woman was 17 years old from Hayward and the other was 22 years old from Yuba City.

Police said it appeared Gohleston was pimping both of the women and using forms of control specifically on the 17-year-old. They were detained and questioned leading to Gohleston's arrest for pimping and pandering. Additionally, Gohleston was arrested for the human trafficking of a minor, which could carry a life sentence if convicted.

The 17-year-old female was transported to the Children’s Legacy Center (CLC), where she was offered services and met with their forensic interviewer. Child Family Services responded to the CLC where they waited with the juvenile until she was released to the custody of her mother. The adult female was offered resources and later released from the scene.

A second arrest happened around 10 p.m. Saturday when police said 25-year-old Jonathan Lee of Stockton arrived with a 24-year-old woman who was also from Stockton. Police arrested Lee for pimping and pandering, as well as violating parole. The woman was offered resources and released from the scene.

The agencies that participated in this operation were the Shasta County District Attorney's Office, Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Shasta County Probation Department, Shasta County Children’s Services, Children's Legacy Center, and Federal Allied Agencies.

The supreme court has taken a knee… let me explain why it is so evident:

In a 6-3 ruling today the U.S. Supreme Court has refused to grant writ to hear the Pennsylvania election challenge cases [pdf here – begin page 25]. While the majority of media will likely celebrate this decision; and while the court has refused to hear the case(s) based on their position the issues are “moot”; there appears to be an underlying motive not being discussed.

It only takes four justices to agree to hear a case and grant a writ of certiorari. In October 2020 the issues with the Pennsylvania court overruling the Pennsylvania legislature was of such importance four justices agreed to block the lower court order. However, four months later the majority claim the arguments within the case are “moot”; & the election is over.

In essence the Robert’s Court is saying they will allow any/all methods and manipulations of election law within states, and only look to the state outcome. This is very troublesome.

Why would Justice Kavanaugh reverse his position? In October the state action to supersede the Pennsylvania legislature was a hazard. In February it is moot.

While it is never a good idea to look into the background of the court for motives, one cannot easily dismiss that Roberts, Kavanaugh and Barrett may have voted against the writ because they were concerned such a decision would cause the senate to start a process of “packing the court.” Retaining the current number of justices within the court is more likely if the justices avoid triggering the consequences from the previous threat.

Justices’ Thomas, Alito and Gorsuch remained consistent with their earlier decisions to hear the cases and settle the disputes. Barrett never weighed in on the October injunction, but Kavanaugh has completely reversed his position with his denial of the writ.
