The Florida Attorney General on Wednesday ordered an investigation into Mike Bloomberg for pledging $16 million to help convicted felons vote in the November election.

The experience of the modern day immigrant, by contrast, is often one of blissful comfort: handouts have been enshrined into law by the Trudeau government, provinces, and cities alike.

Our immigration department, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), has committed 2.2 million dollars of taxpayer money to fund a new program in Ontario: the Newcomers’ health and Wellbeing Program. This new program is “designed to meet the needs of each newcomer in a personalized and comprehensive manner”. Think about that the next time you are shelling out your hard-earned money on expensive prescription drugs or hunting for an available family clinic in town.

Here’s the really interesting part: settlement agencies and mental health care providers already provide service to immigrants and refugees, “but most of the existing resources are not designed with the specific and unique realities of immigrant populations in mind”.

Yes, the programs our government and private industry provides to you and me are not quite up to the standard of immigrants in the strange times we live in.

The new program will have a focus on “describ[ing] experiences of mental health” in a way that “ensure[s] that the clients’ spiritual and religious needs are met”. They are speaking here no doubt of tailoring mental health recovery services in a way that caters to foreign religious perspectives, probably the Islamic perspective in particular. Islam is the fastest-growing religion in Canada.

Furthermore, interpretation services will be offered to provide the mental health interventions in the language most preferred by the immigrant. No doubt there are many more immigrants who don’t speak English or French since the Trudeau government rolled back the 2006 language proficiency requirement.

Previously applied to those aged 14-64, it now applies only from ages 18-54. This means that in an immigrant family composed of two grandparents, four children, and two parents, most likely only two out of eight need to speak one of the national languages. Not only has Canada completed the shift away from the core Anglo-French identity of the past, our new nation is busily dismantling any vestiges of basic civic nationalism found in simple policies like language requirements - as even this is seen as a form of exclusion unacceptable in a “post-national state” with “no core identity”. Trudeau has declared that “…at it’s best, Canadian identity is additive”.

They're just removing/revising certain 230 protections(not all of it) which keep search engines from being liable for content that they have no control over.

Google, Yahoo, Bing are just a gateway(search engine) to websites and this is why section 230 was created in the first place. They are NOT under control of the content that is produced by the websites thus they get protections from lawsuits that may host CP and such. The only thing search engines can do is remove the website from the search engine, not the website itself.

Twitter/Facebook/Reddit/ect(a website) for some reason(lobby money) receive these same protections also(even though they host plenty of CP).... In the case of Twitter/Facebook/Reddit/ect they are in control of the content on their website and they can and do delete/manipulate/alter other people's content.

Is Your Drinking Water Toxic? This App May Help You Find Out

A new tool developed by Penn Medicine researchers informs users about their potential exposure to hydraulic fracturing chemicals

Exposure to hydraulic fracturing fluid in drinking water has been shown to increase the risk of respiratory problems, premature births, congenital heart defects, and other medical problems. But not all wells are created equal. Since different hydraulic fracturing — or fracking — sites use a diverse mix of chemical ingredients, often individuals and researchers are in the dark about the health consequences of living near a particular well.

Now, a new, interactive tool created by Penn Medicine researchers allows community members and scientists to find out which toxins may be lurking in their drinking water as a result of fracking. By typing your ZIP code into the website or accompanying app — called WellExplorer — you can view the closest fracking sites in your state, learn which chemicals are used at those sites, and view their levels of toxicity.

In a recent study, published in Database: The Journal of Biological Databases and Curation, the WellExplorer app’s creators found, for example, that wells in Alabama use a disproportionately high number of ingredients targeting estrogen pathways, while Illinois, Ohio, and Pennsylvania use a high number of ingredients targeting testosterone pathways. The information found through WellExplorer might be particularly relevant for individuals who use private water wells, which are common in rural Pennsylvania, since homeowners may not be performing rigorous testing for these fracking chemicals, according to the study’s principal investigator Mary Regina Boland, PhD, an assistant professor of Informatics in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

“The chemical mixtures used in fracking are known to regulate hormonal pathways, including testosterone and estrogen, and can therefore affect human development and reproduction,” Boland said. “Knowing about these chemicals is important, not only for researchers who may be studying health outcomes in a community, but also for individuals who may want to learn more about possible health implications based on their proximity to a well. They can then potentially have their water tested.”

While FracFocus.org serves as a central registry for fracking chemical disclosures in the United States, the database is not user-friendly for the general public, and it does not contain information about the biological action of the fracking chemicals that it lists. In order to create a tool that could provide more in-depth, functional information for researchers and individuals alike, the Penn researchers first cleaned, shortened, and subsetted the data from FracFocus.org to create two newly usable files that could be in used in WellExplorer website and app.
