Texas Gov. Greg Abbott defunds Texas Legislature after Dem lawmakers blocked election integrity bill

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott followed through on a promise to defund the Texas Legislature after Democratic lawmakers staged a walkout to protest legislation meant to strengthen election integrity. The bill was championed by Republicans, including Abbott.

During the final moments of a legislative session in late May, Texas House Democrats staged a walkout to protest SB7, a sweeping election reform bill. The move, which broke decorum, was meant to block the bill's passage.

The Texas Tribune explained:

Senate Bill 7, a Republican priority bill, is an expansive piece of legislation that would alter nearly the entire voting process. It would create new limitations to early voting hours, ratchet up voting-by-mail restrictions and curb local voting options like drive-thru voting. Democrats had argued the bill would make it harder for people of color to vote in Texas. Republicans called the bill an "election integrity" measure — necessary to safeguard Texas elections from fraudulent votes, even though there is virtually no evidence of widespread fraud.

In response, Abbott threatened to veto funding for the Texas Legislature, which prompted questions about the separation of powers.

"I will veto Article 10 of the budget passed by the legislature. Article 10 funds the legislative branch. No pay for those who abandon their responsibilities. Stay tuned," Abbott said.

What did Abbott do?

Abbott made good on his promise, vetoing a portion of the state budget that funds the Texas Legislature.

"Texans don't run from a legislative fight, and they don't walk away from unfinished business," Abbott said. "Funding should not be provided for those who quit their job early, leaving their state with unfinished business and exposing taxpayers to higher costs for an additional legislative session."

The dramatic action effectively chokes off pay for lawmakers, their staffers and a host of other legislative functions starting Sept. 1, when the state's next two-year budget begins.

As expected, Democrats were outraged over Abbott's decision.

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Chris Turner accused Abbott of an "abuse of power," and said Democrats are "exploring every option, including immediate legal options, to fight back," the Texas Tribune reported.

"Texas has a governor, not a dictator," Turner said. "The tyrannical veto of the legislative branch is the latest indication that [Abbott] is simply out of control."

Japanese stocks fell by the most in over a month, extending losses from late last week following hawkish comments from the Federal Reserve. Russian envoy returns to US after Putin-Biden summit

The ambassador was recalled after US President Joe Biden branded Russian counterpart Putin "a killer" during an interview.

The Russian ambassador arrived back in the United States on Sunday, three months after being recalled amid a diplomatic row between the two countries. The plane transporting ambassador Anatoly Antonov took off at 9:20 a.m. (0620 UTC/GMT) from Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport for New York, where he will travel on to Washington, Russian news agencies reported. Russia in March took the rare step of recalling Antonov from Washington after US President Joe Biden branded his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, "a killer" during an interview. At the same time, Russia said US envoy to Moscow John Sullivan should return to Washington.

But during a bilateral summit last week in Geneva, Putin and Biden agreed that both diplomats should return to their posts. A date for Sullivan's return to Moscow has not yet been announced.

America’s Soup-Brained President Says The US Never Interferes In Other Countries’ Elections

During an astonishingly sycophantic press conference after the Geneva summit with Vladimir Putin, President Biden posited an entirely hypothetical scenario about what the world would think of the United States if it were interfering in foreign elections and everybody knew it.

When AP’s Jonathan Lemire asked the president of the most powerful government in the world what “consequences” he’d threatened the Russian leader with should the Kremlin interfere in US elections going forward, Biden meandered his way through one of his signature not-quite-lucid word salads, and then said the following:

“Let’s get this straight: How would it be if the United States were viewed by the rest of the world as interfering with the elections directly of other countries, and everybody knew it? What would it be like if we engaged in activities that he is engaged in? It diminishes the standing of a country that is desperately trying to make sure it maintains its standing as a major world power.”

The fact that the entire press corps did not erupt in side-splitting laughter at this ridiculous utterance is in itself proof that western news media is pure propaganda. The United States has directly interfered in scores of foreign elections since it began its ascent to global domination at the end of the second World War, to say nothing of all the coups, color revolutions, proxy conflicts and regime change military invasions it has also participated in during that time. The US openly interfered in Russia’s elections in the nineties, and literally just tried to stage a coup in Bolivia by interfering in its democratic process. The US is far and away the single most egregious offender in the world on this front, which is largely why it is perceived around the world as a greater threat to democracy than any other government.

This is not a secret, internationally or in the United States. Anyone who has done any learning about the US government’s actual behavior on the world stage knows this. Hell, a former CIA director openly joked about it on Fox News a few years ago.

Fox’s Laura Ingraham unsurprisingly introduced former CIA Director James Woolsey as “an old friend” in a 2018 interview about Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller’s indictment of 13 alleged members of a Russian troll farm, in which Woolsey unsurprisingly talked about how dangerous Russian “disinformation” is and Ingraham unsurprisingly said that everyone should actually be afraid of China. What was a bit surprising, though, was what happened at the end of the interview.

“Have we ever tried to meddle in other countries’ elections?” Ingraham asked in response to Woolsey’s Russia remarks.

“Oh, probably,” Woolsey said with a grin. “But it was for the good of the system in order to avoid the communists from taking over. For example, in Europe, in ’47, ’48, ’49, the Greeks and the Italians we CIA-”

“We don’t do that anymore though?” Ingraham interrupted. “We don’t mess around in other people’s elections, Jim?”

Woolsey smiled and said said “Well…”, followed by a joking incoherent mumble, adding, “Only for a very good cause.”

And then they both laughed.

The fact that not one person in the press pool questioned or criticized Biden’s outrageous remarks tells you everything you need to know about the western media and what its real function is. This is further illustrated by the rest of the behavior of these odious propagandists during the summit, which was illustrated quite well by the glowing praise of Democratic Party insider Andrea Chalupa on Twitter:

“The winners of #GenevaSummit2021 are the White House press corp,” Chalupa said. “Excellent questions confronting Putin and challenging Biden on holding a summit with a ruthless dictator. And they literally held their ground when shoved by Putin’s security and propagandists.”

That actually says it all. Western reporters are forbidden by their oligarchic owners from ever confronting power in any meaningful way; the closest they’re ever allowed to get to punching up is challenging the leaders of CIA-targeted governments, and demanding to know why their own officials aren’t being more hawkish and aggressive toward those leaders.

As RT’s Murad Gazdiev pointed out, “ABC, NBC, BBC, CNN, and many other Western outlets were invited for Putin’s press conference. No Russian media was invited to Biden’s press conference.” The whole thing was a navel-gazing, masturbatory cold war propaganda orgy where western “journalists” made up fantasies about their soup-brained leader staring down Putin, where they yelled nonsense about Alexei Navalny at the Russian president and then fangirled at Biden’s response.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon got over $2 million from the Soros operation, he ended cash bail and is no longer prosecuting the crimes of trespassing, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, prostitution, or driving without a license.

Kim Foxx is the Illinois State’s Attorney and has received $807,000 from Soros. She also declined to prosecute rioters, saying “The question it comes down to is, is it a good use of our time and resources? No, it’s not.” Foxx likewise declined to prosecute hate crime hoaxer, Jussie Smollett.

Philly District Attorney Larry Krasner has received $1.7 million from Soros. He won’t be prosecuting rioters, looters, and arsonists. Krasner was very open about the ideology driving his permitting chaos in the city: “Prosecution alone will achieve nothing close to justice—not when power imbalances and lack of accountability make it possible for government actors including police or prosecutors to regularly take life or liberty unjustly and face no criminal or career penalty.”

Krasner is worth calling out for special attention because he filed 75 cases against the police and has represented both Occupy Philadelphia and Black Lives Matter. At his victory party, supporters chanted, “F* the police! F* the police!” He generally declines to call himself a “prosecutor,” instead labelling himself a “public defender with power.”

The results in Philadelphia are stunning as charges are dropped in 60 percent of all shooting cases – though we suspect your odds of being a conservative self-defense case and having your charges waived are rather slim. Shootings in Philadelphia were up 57 percent year over year from 2019 to 2020.

San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin, who’s working off $620,000 in Soros money, proclaims that “[t]he criminal justice system isn’t just massive and brutal, it’s also racist.” He doesn’t prosecute crimes such as solicitation, public camping, or public urination, which has certainly transformed San Francisco into a paradise on earth. Homicide rates have increased, burglary cases have increased by 42 percent, motor vehicle theft increased by 31 percent, and arson rates increased by 45 percent. He was formerly an advisor to Hugo Chavez and his parents were members of the Weather Underground, a far-left terrorist organization who directly participated in the robbery of an armored car. His victory party included obscene anti-police chants.

DA Mike Schmidt of Portland, who’s received $230,000 in Soros money, also declined to prosecute rioters who burned the city for months while besieging a federal building. "Atherosclerosis is a multifactorial process that commences in childhood but manifests clinically later in life. Atherosclerosis is increasingly considered an immune system–mediated process of the vascular system. The presence of macrophages and activated lymphocytes within atherosclerotic plaques supports the concept of atherosclerosis as an immune system–mediated inflammatory disorder."

"Cells of the immune system can be found within atherosclerotic plaques, which suggests that they have a role in the atherogenic process. Their migration and activation within the plaques can be secondary to various stimuli, including infectious agents.3 These cells probably aggravate atherosclerosis, because CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell depletion reduced fatty streak formation in C57BL/6 mice. In addition, after crossing of apolipoprotein E (ApoE)-knockout mice with immunodeficient scid/scid mice, the offspring had a 73% reduction in aortic fatty streak lesions compared with the immunocompetent apoE mice. Moreover, when CD4+ T cells were transferred from the immunocompetent to the immunodeficient mice, they increased lesion area in the latter by 164%.4 It is therefore not surprising that as in autoimmune diseases, the cellular components within atherosclerotic plaques secrete various cytokines, including many interleukins as well as tumor necrosis factor-α and platelet-derived growth factor.

A cellular immune response specifically directed against heat-shock proteins (HSPs), oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL), and β2-glycoprotein-I (β2GPI) has been reported, suggesting a direct involvement of these molecules in atherosclerosis.1 β2GPI can be found in human atherosclerotic lesions obtained from carotid endarterectomies, it is abundantly expressed within the subendothelial regions and the intimal-medial border of human atherosclerotic plaques, and it colocalizes with CD4+ lymphocytes.5 On transfer of lymphocytes obtained from β2GPI-immunized LDL-receptor–deficient mice into syngeneic mice, the recipients exhibited larger fatty streaks compared with mice that received lymphocytes from control mice. However, T-cell depletion of lymphocytes failed to induce this effect.6 Therefore, T cells specific for β2GPI are capable of increasing atherosclerosis, suggesting that β2GPI is a target autoantigen in atherosclerosis. There are probably many more such specific cell lines reacting with specific antigens that can modulate atherosclerosis by either aggravating or decreasing its extent (proatherogenic or antiatherogenic)."
