China has approved the creation of one of the world’s largest rare-earths companies to aim to maintain its dominance in the global supply chain of the strategic metals as tensions deepen with the U.S., according to people familiar with the matter.
The new firm will be called China Rare Earth Group and will be based in resource-rich Jiangxi province in southern China as soon as this month, the people said. The new entity would be created by merging rare-earths assets from some state firms, including China Minmetals Corp. , Aluminum Corp. of China Ltd. and Ganzhou Rare Earth Group Co.

The DOJ may soon release an "alternative" version of the Mueller report, Politico first reported.
Prosecutors told a judge that they're in the initial stages of reviewing the document for release.
Mueller's deputy Andrew Weissmann revealed the existence of the alternate report in his book last year.
The Justice Department is in the process of reviewing an "alternative" version of the Mueller report that's been kept under wraps, according to a new court filing.
The Manhattan US attorney's office notified District Judge Katherine Polk Failla on Thursday that the department has "located and begun processing" the document, which is sometimes referred to as the "Alternative Mueller Report." Politico first reported the news.
Andrew Weissmann, a longtime former federal prosecutor who served as one of special counsel Robert Mueller's top deputies during the FBI's Russia investigation, revealed the existence of the report in his book, "Where the Law Ends: Inside the Mueller Investigation."
Weissmann expressed deep dissatisfaction with the final report that was released to the public in April 2019 and accused Mueller of having let down the public.
In Thursday's letter to Judge Failla, the Manhattan US attorney's office said it "has located and begun processing this record and intends to release all non-exempt portions to [The Times] once processing is complete."

Alec Baldwin told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that he feels no guilt for fatally shooting a producer on the set of “Rust.”
Baldwin fatally shot 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins and injured 48-year-old Joel Souza on the movie set in Santa Fe, Mexico in October.
Baldwin absurdly claimed he didn’t pull the trigger.

Omicron cases, hospitalizations surging among kids under 5 in South Africa
December 3, 2021
The “highly transmissible” Omicron variant of COVID-19 has disproportionately hospitalized kids under age 5 as it tears through South Africa, health officials in the country said Friday.
The new strain of the coronavirus — which had largely not caused serious illness in young children previously — has led to a dramatic spike in severe cases in the age group, South African government medical adviser Waasila Jassat said at a press conference.
“The week-on-week increase we’re seeing in cases and admissions is higher than we’ve seen it before. We’ve seen quite a sharp increase [in hospital admissions] across all age groups but particularly in the under 5s,” Jassat said of the Gauteng province area, which includes Johannesburg and has been at the epicenter of the spread of the new variant.
“The incidence in those under 5 is now second-highest, second only to those over 60. The trend that we’re seeing now, that is different to what we’ve seen before, is a particular increase in hospital admissions in children under 5 years,” she said, according to the Daily Beast.
Jassat said the Omicron variant — which has at least 50 mutations and is being closely monitored by world health officials — may have evolved to target kids under 5 during the pandemic’s so-called “fourth wave.”
“We’ve always seen children not being very heavily affected by the COVID epidemic in the past, not having many admissions. In the third wave, we saw more admissions in young children under 5 and in teenagers, 15 to 19, and now, at the start of this fourth wave, we have seen quite a sharp increase across all age groups, but particularly in the under 5s,” she said.
In most Omircon cases in South Africa, the parents of children who’ve been hospitalized were not vaccinated.
Jassat, who revealed graphs showing an alarming increase in hospitalizations, said the development may be due to an “immunity gap” caused by a lack of vaccinations in the area.
Between Nov. 14 and Nov. 27, the time period when Omicron was first detected, more than 100 kids under 5 were admitted to hospitals with COVID-19 in the city of Tshwane, she said. By contrast, in May, fewer than 20 children were hospitalized.
As more adults get vaccinated, kids are becoming the ones who are “getting sick and need to be admitted,” she said.
In the vast majority of cases at the area’s Tshwane hospital, pediatricians said the parents of hospitalized kids were not vaccinated.
“And the younger children, younger than 12, who were not eligible for vaccination, none of their parents, except for three, were vaccinated,” Jassat said. “[It shows] the value of vaccination in the adult protecting the children in the homes.”
In South Africa, just over 42 percent of all adults have received at least one vaccination dose, said Health Minister Joe Phaahla.
“This variant is indeed highly transmissible, including in people who have already been vaccinated,” said Phaahla.
Cases have increased to 9,000 cases per day, up from “2,465 new cases last Thursday when this variant was announced,” he said.
At the press conference, epidemiologist Michelle Groome also reported that overall daily hospital admissions in the worst-affected parts of Gauteng province have soared from 19 to 78 in recent weeks.
“This is the highest we’ve ever seen it since the start of the pandemic,” she said.
The startling increase in severe infections comes as Omicron, labeled “a variant of concern” by the World Health Organization, has spread to at least 23 other countries, including the US.

A federal appeals court overrode a three-judge panel decision Wednesday, restoring an injunction blocking President Joe Biden’s “sanctuary country” orders as legal challenges continue.
These so-called “sanctuary country” orders are directives by top officials in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The new guidance from acting ICE Director Tae Johnson instructed agents to not pursue illegal aliens for arrest and deportation until they have been convicted of aggravated felonies against Americans — crimes such as rape, murder, child pornography, sexual abuse of a minor, trafficking firearms, and theft.
It also requires ICE agents to prioritize convicted illegal alien aggravated felons, a very small percentage of the estimated 20 plus million illegal alien population in the U.S.
If ICE agents try to arrest an illegal alien who is not a convicted aggravated felon, or a known or suspected terrorist or gang member, they must first get approval through an overwhelmed and inefficient chain of command process in which a field director or a special agent in charge has to give the green light, or it’s a no go.
In August, Judge Drew Tipton of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas issued a preliminary injunction blocking the sanctuary country orders following a lawsuit from the states of Texas and Louisiana.
However, a three-judge panel stayed Tipton’s ruling the following month, saying that “eliminating DHS’s ability to prioritize removals poses a number of practical problems given its limited resources.”
Now a majority of the 16-judge Fifth Circuit has voted to vacate the three-judge panel’s decision and for all of them to hear the case together in what is called an en banc rehearing.
Hearing cases en banc allows the full circuit court to overturn a decision reached by a three-judge panel. Due to the decreasing probability of U.S. Supreme Court intervention, the circuit court is often the court of last resort in the ordinary life of a case, thereby amplifying the importance of en banc review.
The case is Texas v. U.S., No. 21-40618 in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

The clips she selected were heinous, and Ms. Taylor Greene, who also goes by her initials MTG, noted that the daily slander by the mainstream media does not help. “I have been the most attacked freshman member of congress probably in United States history,” she said in the nine minute video posted on Twitter.

Back in May, we reported on the fight brewing in a DC federal court, where Fusion GPS and Glenn Simpson were trying to keep secret their internal correspondence and records relating to their role in pushing the Alfa Bank/Trump hoax. New court filings indicate Fusion GPS and Glenn Simpson improperly failed some of their most damning e-mails.
For background, the fight arises out of a lawsuit – Fridman, et al. (Alfa Bank) v. Bean LLC a/k/a Fusion GPS, and Glenn Simpson, where the owners of Alfa Bank have sued Fusion GPS and Simpson for falsely accusing “the Plaintiffs—and Alfa (“Alfa”), a consortium in which the Plaintiffs are investors—of criminal conduct and alleged cooperation with the ‘Kremlin’ to influence the 2016 presidential election.”
The case was filed in October 2017. Litigation has been ongoing for over four years – with Alfa Bank still fighting to obtain written discovery from Fusion GPS that is material to its case. Our previous report had to do with that very discovery dispute. Back in May, Alfa Bank “filed a motion to compel, asking the Court to require Fusion GPS and Glenn Simpson to produce nearly 500 critically important documents improperly withheld as privileged.” (More background here.)
These documents included e-mail correspondence within Fusion GPS regarding the “Alfa Playbook” and showed the early development of the Fusion GPS/Simpson work on Trump/Russia. One would assume this entails the early or emerging thought process of the “intelligence” group as they sought to falsely accuse the Trump campaign of colluding with Russia.
In a later post from July 2021, we observed that records indicated Fusion GPS had been in contact with Michael Sussmann of Perkins Coie regarding Alfa Bank. More communications Fusion GPS is trying to keep secret.
What nobody realized at the time, however, was the importance of these communications. Michael Sussmann – the DNC/Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer – would later face false statement charges and be basically accused of being part of a conspiracy to defraud the federal government with respect to the Trump/Alfa Bank allegations.

Judges Confirm GOP Win in Virginia Beach House Seat, Cementing Republican Majority
A three-judge panel on Friday upheld a GOP win in a close Virginia Beach House race, AP reported.
The decision by the judges cemented the GOP’s new majority after Democrats tried derailing the Republican victory with recounts.
Democrats requested recounts in two races which left open the possibility of a 50-50 legislature, however the judges overseeing the recount reaffirmed the GOP majority in the House after making a decision on 85th District.
The other recount in the 91st District is still ongoing, however the Democrats have no shot at taking the majority in the House.
Democrats still hold a slim majority in the Senate.
Republicans won the governor’s race, the state Attorney General, the state Lieutenant Governor’s race in last month’s election.

The Amazing Story of Charles Joughin
Charles Joughin worked as a chief baker on RMS Titanic. He led a team of thirteen bakers and took care of Titanic always had fresh bread available. He earned 15 British pounds per month which would roughly equal 1500 pounds today.
At the time Titanic crashed an iceberg, at 23.40 on the 14th of April, 1912, he was in his room, drinking whiskey. When orders for evacuation came, he summoned his team to supply each boat with bread.
Joughin helped children and women get into lifeboats. After a while women panicked and refused to enter lifeboats, claiming it was safer to stay aboard of Titanic. He forcibly threw them in boats.
Although he was assigned as captain of lifeboat 10, he refused to enter and left his place to another lucky passenger.
Realizing Titanic was out of lifeboats, he went back to his room and drank as much whiskey he could, preparing himself to die.

Passengers started to panic, yet Joughin remained calm (and drunk). He threw around fifty wooden chairs into the water hoping they would help those already in the freezing water to hang on them.
Charles Joughin was the last man who left the Titanic and he got off with style.
In Hollywood blockbuster movie Charles Joughin is portrayed hanging on rails next to Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet, while Titanic is vertically sinking. This actually happened. Not Leonardo and Kate part. Of course.
Joughin recalled he rode the ship like an elevator, not even getting his head wet. It was 2.20 in the morning.
Joughin calmly paddled around for the next two hours until the dawn around 4.30 AM. He saw an upturned lifeboat with 25 people standing on it, he paddled towards the boat, but there was no space for him.
A cook, Isaac Maynard, recognized him and extended his hand to support him. Luckily, another lifeboat came by and Joughin was taken aboard. After two hours in freezing water, he just complained about his swollen feet. He stayed there until being saved by HMS Carpathia.
After surviving the Titanic disaster, Joughin went back to work on the various ships. He also baked bread for soldiers on transport ships during World war II.
With a colorful life under his belt, he died because of pneumonia in 1956 at the age of 78.
