NASA Names Brian Hughes to Launch Operations Role

NASA announced Friday that Brian Hughes will return to the agency as senior director of launch operations, based at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

In this role, Hughes will provide enterprise-level leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for NASA’s launch infrastructure.

Reporting to NASA Headquarters in Washington, Hughes will have direct responsibility for launch operations at NASA Kennedy, as well as the agency’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.

He will work across government, industry, and local leadership to strengthen coordination among stakeholders supporting NASA’s spaceports, enable increased launch cadence, and support execution of the President’s National Space Policy to ensure continued American leadership in space.

“Brian brings a unique combination of operational expertise, strategic leadership, and public service experience at the highest levels of government,” said NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman.

“His track record leading complex organizations and executing high-stakes missions makes him exceptionally well-suited to help shape the future of NASA’s launch operations as we accelerate into a new era of exploration and innovation.”

Most recently, Hughes served as NASA’s chief of staff, where he helped drive agencywide priorities and decision-making.

Prior to NASA, he served as deputy national security advisor for Strategic Communications at the White House, helping shape policy and communications on national security matters.

Hughes also served as chief administrative officer for the City of Jacksonville, overseeing a workforce of more than 7,000 employees and managing a multi-billion-dollar budget across public safety, infrastructure, and emergency management operations.

Earlier in his career, he served as chief of staff to former Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry and as chief executive officer of the Downtown Investment Authority, leading economic development initiatives across the city.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Hughes served as a KC-135 aircrew member during operations over the Middle East in support of the Gulf War.

His return comes as NASA continues advancing a growing portfolio of civil, commercial, and national security launch activities across its spaceport infrastructure.

ESA Begins Developing Replacements for NASA’s Contributions to LISA

The European Space Agency has begun mitigation efforts for key elements of its LISA mission after a White House budget proposal sought, for the second year running, to eliminate most of NASA’s planned support.

One of these mitigation efforts was formalised on 5 May, when ESA awarded a €26.1 million contract to Thales Alenia Space for the development of the mission’s telescopes.

ESA’s Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) consists of three spacecraft working in tandem to detect gravitational waves from significant events in the Universe, such as when two black holes collide.

When ESA adopted the mission in early 2024, NASA was expected to provide several critical LISA subsystems, including laser systems, telescopes, and devices to reduce disturbances from electromagnetic charges.

In May 2025, just months after Donald Trump took office, the White House’s proposed FY2026 NASA budget sought to cut the agency’s science funding by almost 50%, which included eliminating the agency’s support for ESA’s LISA mission.

While Congress later rejected the proposal and allocated $80.5 million for the mission, the White House has once again proposed cutting the majority of NASA’s support in its FY2027 budget.

The request includes just $2.4 million for Physics of the Cosmos Supporting Research and Technology, which would support technology development efforts for several missions, including LISA.

In June 2025, following ESA’s 334th Council meeting, the agency’s Director of Science said ESA had identified 19 missions that could be affected by the proposed NASA budget cuts.

She said the impact on 16 of those missions could be mitigated through “good planning”, while three, LISA, EnVision, and NewAthena, would require specific recovery actions.

Although Congress later rejected the proposed cuts, ESA nonetheless moved ahead with recovery actions as uncertainty over NASA’s long-term support remained unresolved.

On 30 September 2025, ESA issued a call for proposals covering the development of LISA’s telescopes.

The agency outlined a four-phase development process that would begin with initial testing of a breadboard model, followed by delivery of a qualification model, one flight-ready telescope, and, finally, telescopes for all three spacecraft.

Each phase includes decision points, allowing time for NASA to resolve uncertainty around its commitments while still enabling ESA to pursue European replacements.

On 5 May 2026, Thales Alenia Space announced that it had been awarded a contract to begin the first phase of LISA telescope development.

In response to questions from European Spaceflight, ESA explained that, while NASA was still involved in the mission, ongoing budget uncertainty had prompted the mitigation actions.

“NASA is still involved in LISA, but budget discussions are ongoing. We have been informed that some projects may be impacted,” explained an ESA spokesperson.

“In light of this, ESA has taken the decision, supported by our member states, to initiate risk mitigation actions on LISA. This TAS contract is the result of one of the actions.”

NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, which is responsible for developing LISA’s telescopes, acknowledged a request for comment but had not responded by the time of publication.

The Thales Alenia Space telescope contract is one of several planned mitigation efforts. A tender for a European-developed Charge Management Device (CMD) was announced in November 2025.

The call explains that the agency’s executive considers it “prudent to take action now to limit any potential damage to the programme stemming from the unstable situation with NASA.”

The CMD initiative is currently under evaluation, suggesting an award is imminent.

Moscow sees no point in continuing the trilateral contacts with Ukraine and the US until Kiev makes “one serious step,” Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aide Yury Ushakov has said.

The senior official was apparently referring to the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the parts of Donbass still under Ukrainian control, a move long demanded by Russia and consistently rejected by Kiev.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Ushakov admitted that the US-mediated contacts with Ukraine have halted to a grind following the latest meeting that was held in Geneva in February.

Since then, the “American participants have been preoccupied with a different, more serious problem,” he added, apparently referring to the crisis in the Middle East.

The discussions have effectively boiled down to “one serious step” Kiev must take to greatly advance the settlement process. While Ushakov did not explicitly name said step, he was likely referring to the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from parts of Donbass they still control.

“Everyone understands, including, I would say, Ukrainian negotiators, that Kiev now needs to take just one serious step, after which, firstly, military action will cease, and secondly, prospects for serious discussions of a further long-term resolution of this issue will open,” Ushakov stated.

The status of Donbass, which voted to join Russia in 2022, has remained one of the key obstacles to peace negotiations, with Moscow and Kiev maintaining opposing positions on the matter.

Russia has repeatedly outlined Ukraine’s full withdrawal from the region as an essential step for reaching a lasting ceasefire and paving the way for further discussions of a sustainable settlement.

The Ukrainian leadership, however, has repeatedly refused to cede any territory and has maintained that recapturing the regions incorporated into Russia remains one of its ultimate goals.

In March, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky claimed that Washington had pressed Kiev into accepting Moscow’s terms, allegedly making its offer of security guarantees to Ukraine conditional on it ceding all the contested territory in Donbass to Russia.

Washington, however, has dismissed such claims, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio describing Zelensky’s assertions as a “lie.”

Strikes reported in Lebanon, missiles intercepted in northern Israel - report

Strikes were reported on Friday in Beqaa, an eastern Lebanese governorate bordering Syria, N12 reported.

Later on Friday, incoming missiles were intercepted over Western Galilee. No sirens were activated, according to N12.

NIH Whistleblower Exposes ‘Full Coverup Mode’ Over Fauci’s Bat Virus Mad Scientist Vincent Munster’s Monkey Bite Horror and Illegal African Pathogen Smuggling, FBI Criminal Probe Underway

A whistleblower letter alleges that a National Institutes of Health (NIH) animal lab long targeted by White Coat Waste (WCW) is in “full coverup mode” over a dangerous monkey bite accident and an apparent international pathogen smuggling incident that reportedly led to the suspension of animal experimenters and an ongoing FBI investigation.

Earlier this week, WCW was the first to report that a notorious taxpayer-funded animal experimenter at NIH’s Rocky Mountain Laboratory (RML) named Vincent Munster was removed from the agency directory and reportedly suspended.

In an anonymous letter recently obtained by WCW, a whistleblower alleges that Munster, who conducts animal experiments with dangerous foreign viruses, attempted to smuggle “dozens of vials in his baggage” on a trip back from Africa in January and lied to customs officials about their contents.

The letter states Munster “got caught trying to sneak VHF [viral hemorrhagic fever] samples into the United States from Africa” and that NIH officials “did not inform the RML campus and went into full coverup mode.” The source claims Munster and two colleagues traveling with him were quietly banned from the RML campus.

Additionally, the new whistleblower complaint alleges that a monkey bite was the cause of an incident first uncovered by WCW in January that exposed an RML lab staffer to Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever — a deadly, foreign virus used by NIH for maximum-pain experiments on monkeys.

The source stated the lab staffer was “bitten by an infected monkey (macaque) that was being tortured (infected and sickened with no pain mitigation)”

The letter alleges that the accident was “hidden” from most of RML’s employees, and the exposed lab worker was “flown out” to avoid suspicion.

WCW was the very first to expose how Dr. Fauci funded the Wuhan animal lab. Moderna is out with timely news that it is working on early-stage research on vaccines targeting hantaviruses. The news comes as a Spanish woman has been hospitalized for a suspected infection, while a hantavirus cluster has ravaged a Dutch-flagged cruise ship, with five confirmed and three suspected cases of hantavirus. Three deaths have been reported so far.

Bloomberg reports that Moderna is collaborating with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases on hantavirus vaccine research and is also working with Korea University College of Medicine's Vaccine Innovation Center on a potential vaccine.

"These efforts are early-stage and ongoing and reflect Moderna's broader responsibility to develop countermeasures against emerging infectious diseases," Moderna said.

Moderna said its work on hantavirus vaccines began before the cruise ship Hondius reported an outbreak while anchored off the coast of Cape Verde, on the west coast of Africa, last week.

Anais Legand, a technical officer at the World Health Organization (WHO), provided an update earlier today stating that all remaining passengers on the Hondius have left the ship without symptoms.

"They will be asked to take their temperature every single day for 42 days. They will be asked to check every day for other symptoms like feeling unwell or a headache," Legand said, adding, "They will be provided with someone to contact. If they're not feeling well, it's up to the national authorities where people will go next."

Already looking like something right out of the dot com bubble, Intel stock soared even more moments ago, surging almost 20% and hitting a new all time high over $130 (it was trading at $80 a few days ago), after the WSJ reported that the White House-backed chipmaker has reached a preliminary agreement to manufacture some of the chips that power Apple devices. Which is ironic as just 6 short years ago Apple surprised the market when it announced it was parting ways with Intel, replacing the company's chips with its own, a move which was dubbed a huge success. Now, following intense White House pressure, it has decided to reverse this decision.

While it is well known that talks between the two companies have been ongoing for more than a year - which has been one of the reasons for Intel's recent meteoric advance - they hammered out a formal deal in recent months.

It’s still unclear which Apple products Intel would make chips for, if any, or if today's PR was just to plant the seeds for the US to sell its Intel stake after Trump was boasting recently how much money he made for US taxpayers since getting a big stake in the company last summer when it was trading below $20.

Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy provided a first look at the initial batch of UFO files released by the Trump administration on Friday.

Appearing on Friday’s edition of Fox & Friends, Doocy introduced his report by showing off the flash drive left on his desk with the first tranche of UFO files that the Department of Defense will sporadically roll out.

“So a White House official left this hard drive on my desk overnight,” Doocy told co-hosts Brian Kilmeade, Ainsley Earhardt, and Griff Jenkins.

“You can see on it, it says ‘AARO files, copy two of three.’ That is the All Domain Resolution Office, copy two of three. This is the first big batch of UFO disclosure ordered by President Trump.”

He added: “We have been going through this all morning and overnight to try and put together the best videos so we can all look at this together. This is a world exclusive.”

Doocy then introduced the first video, from the skies of the United Arab Emirates in 2024, showing a flying object that looks like “an inverted teardrop” with a “vertically linear trailing mass.”

“The War Department can’t say for sure what this is,” Doocy said.

Doocy then presented a clip from December 2022 in Iraq, showing a thin object drifting across the screen.

“All CENTCOM gets from this is ‘an area of contrast’ — that’s what they describe it as,” Doocy said.

A third video from the skies of Greece shows a “Small and circular UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena).”“CENTCOM can’t tell us what it is,” Doocy said. He noted that all of the videos are now available for viewing at War.gov/UFO.

The files also include a transcript of a conversation from the Apollo 17 mission, where “jagged angular fragments” are spotted outside astronaut Ron Evan’s window that “looks like the 4th of July.”

So is the truth out there? Do aliens exist? Doocy could only offer this reply: “They don’t know. But in an effort of transparency, they are giving us all of the material that they are working with as they try to answer that question.”

VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Amid renewed claims by U.S. President Donald Trump and members of Congress that secret UFO files could soon be declassified, a Vatican parish hosted a discussion on extraterrestrial life and the modern disclosure movement.

The talk, titled “UAPs from Schopenhauer to Other Forms of Intelligence,” was presented April 29 by UFO researcher Vladimiro Bibolotti at the Vatican’s St. Anne parish, where a long-running series known as “Cultural Wednesdays” has for decades featured presentations on subjects ranging from music and poetry to science and religion.

The UFO talk was one example of the parish’s broader effort to engage timely cultural topics and their intersection with Catholic thought.

“Every day I publish at least 20 news items about debates in the U.S. Congress — in both the House of Representatives and the Senate — where this subject is being discussed with concrete evidence,” said Bibolotti, who is the president of the National Ufology Center based in Italy.

UFOs discussed in event hosted at Vatican parish

During the roughly one-hour talk, Bibolotti surveyed the history of UFOs from classical antiquity to the modern American disclosure movement, citing Greek philosophers, military reports and congressional testimony.

He also highlighted Vatican astronomers and pontifical university professors who have spoken on the compatibility of extraterrestrial life with the Catholic faith.

“I don’t have the truth in my pocket,” Bibolotti said. “But I’m presenting things that are not merely personal speculation — they are based on scientific documents.”

The talk evolved at times into an extended exchange between speakers and attendees, including skeptical questions from Giuseppe Loiacono, a retired philosophy teacher, who argued that scientific claims require verification and reproducibility.

“Scientific conjectures have to be tested and verified,” Loiacono said, arguing UFO sightings cannot be taken at face value. “Otherwise, it becomes a dogma.”

As the plug gets pulled on E2EE, Meta will now be able to read your messages, see your pictures, watch your videos, and listen to your voice notes.

The change has been met with hostility from privacy campaigners who say the move is a step backwards for digital rights.

However, E2EE has long been accused of making it easier to spread harmful material online, including terrorist materials, hate speech, and child sexual abuse material.

This means Meta's move away from encryption has been welcomed by child protection groups, which has argued that digital encryption risks harming children.

An international law enforcement operation led by the Spanish Guardia Civil and coordinated through Europol has disrupted a major cocaine trafficking route across the Atlantic Ocean.

Between 13 and 26 April 2026, law enforcement targeted criminal networks moving cocaine from Latin America to Europe through complex at-sea transfers designed to avoid major ports and traditional detection methods.

During the two-week operational phase, maritime assets were deployed across the Atlantic to detect, track and intercept suspect vessels involved in drug transfers at sea. Law enforcement activity focused on the eastern Atlantic corridor between the Spanish Canary Islands and the Portuguese Azores. In total, 11 tonnes of cocaine and 8.5 tonnes of hashish were seized during the operation.

Earlier this year, Europol issued a warning that criminal networks were increasingly shifting cocaine trafficking away from major European ports and towards fragmented maritime routes across the Atlantic Ocean. Since identifying this evolving modus operandi, Europol and its partners have intensified maritime coordination and operational cooperation to adapt to the threat, with this operation delivering the clearest results to date.

Criminal networks are becoming increasingly flexible, and internationally connected. But our response is evolving fast too. Over a two-week operational period, law enforcement dealt a significant blow to what is known as the cocaine highway. And our work does not stop with seizures or the arrest of crew members - Europol will now build on the intelligence gathered to help identify and dismantle the criminal networks behind these trans-Atlantic operations.

Criminal networks have moved offshore

The recent operation demonstrates the patterns Europol had identified earlier this year: criminal networks are increasingly moving cocaine offshore to reduce exposure to law enforcement at major ports. Shipments are now moved in multiple stages across the Atlantic:

Mother vessels collect cocaine in Latin America and travel hundreds to thousands of nautical miles into international waters. These vessels include container ships, bulk carriers, and smaller non-commercial vessels.

Mid-ocean transfers move cargo onto high-speed vessels capable of long-range crossings, including rigid-hulled inflatable boats and other fast craft.

Final-stage transfers deliver cocaine to smaller boats for landing at remote coastal areas in Portugal and Spain, often using beaches or small marinas to avoid detection.

The model is designed to fragment risk across multiple vessels and crews. The recent operation directly targeted this structure, halting multiple shipments and preventing criminal networks from completing their deliveries to Europe.
