"It must be done immediately. It supersedes everything else. MUST GO TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE. I, as President, will not sign other Bills until this is passed, AND NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION - GO FOR THE GOLD," he added.
Trump described the main parts of the bill that passed the House.

Iran's Assembly of Experts has named Mojtaba Khamenei to replace his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the country's new supreme leader, state media reported on Sunday.
Mojtaba, a mid-ranking cleric with close ties to the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, had long been viewed by elements of Iran's ruling establishment as a potential successor to his father, who was killed after the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran.

The crew of the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Bushehr, an auxiliary ship accompanying the warship IRIS Dena that was attacked by the United States,fled to Sri Lanka after abandoning the ship, a former Sri Lankan navy official told Iran International.
The vessel, belonging to the Iranian army’s navy, docked at the port of Colombo on March 5 due to what wasdescribed as an “engine technical malfunction,” carrying 208 naval personnel, including 53 officers and 84 officer cadets.
The former officialsaid the ship’s request for humanitarian assistance due to engine trouble was in fact a cover for a “mass escape” by the crew.
He said the crew’s decision stemmed from a deep collapse of their trust in the Islamic Republic amid the current war in Iran.
The source added that the sinking of the destroyer Dena by a US submarine further intensified this distrust, saying the incident showed the crew that the Islamic Republic does not care about the lives and fate of its forces.
The source said all 208 sailors had left the ship, were transferred to the Welisara naval base and are now under the supervision of Sri Lankan security authorities.

US Considers Idea of Special Operation to Seize Iran’s Uranium Mar. 8, 2026. 1/2
The strikes on atomic facilities last June complicated the task of tracking the Islamic Republic’s stockpile.
President Donald Trump is weighing the option of deploying special forces on the ground to seize Iran’s near-bomb-grade uranium, as officials grow increasingly concerned the stockpile may have been moved, according to three diplomatic officials briefed on the matter.
The US and Israel struck key nuclear facilities during last June’s 12-day war. Uncertainty over Iran’s highly enriched uranium has intensified because it’s almost nine months since United Nations atomic inspectors last verified its location, the officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss restricted deliberations.
“They haven’t been able to get to it and at some point, maybe we will,” Trump said late on Saturday during a briefing aboard Air Force One. “We haven’t gone after it, but it’s something we can do later on. We wouldn’t do it now.”
One of the stated aims of the attacks on Iran has been to rid the Islamic Republic of any capability to produce nuclear weapons. But the strikes on atomic facilities last year complicated the task of tracking the uranium. That’s now become a live issue again for military planners, and it’s unclear whether any special operation would be conducted by US or Israeli forces.
Publicly, US officials have projected confidence that they know where the uranium is stored. Privately, there is said to be less certainty. In the weeks before the latest US and Israeli strikes, monitors from the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency observed sustained activity outside tunnels built into a hillside near Isfahan, where the material was last documented before the fighting began.
That activity increases the likelihood that at least some of the 441 kilograms (972 pounds) of highly enriched uranium stored at the complex was moved, said a diplomat in the Austrian capital familiar with the agency’s assessments.
The stockpile is sufficient for roughly a dozen nuclear warheads if further refined, with the US saying specifically 11 bombs. Iran also possesses more than 8,000 kilograms of uranium enriched to lower levels, material that could be upgraded if enrichment capacity is restored.
US and Israeli officials are actively searching for the highly enriched material and have contingency plans that include deploying special forces if its location is confirmed, one of the officials said.
A senior Trump administration official said on March 3 that the US had two options to render Iran’s enriched uranium unusable. If the US had physical control of the territory, people could be sent in to dilute it on-site and safely dispense of it, the official said. They could otherwise remove it from Iran and deal with it in another location, the official said.
Axios reported earlier that the US and Israel were looking at potential ground forces to seize Iran’s nuclear stockpile. The White House didn't respond to requests for comment on any potential plan.
Trump said on Saturday he didn’t want to talk about ground troops, though he didn’t rule out the possibility. He said they would have to be “for a very good reason” and if they were ever used, Iran would have to be so “decimated that they wouldn’t be able to fight at the ground level.”
The US military has prepared detailed plans for incursions into Iran in the past. One such operation, named Project Honey Badger and developed decades ago in the wake of the US embassy hostage crisis, envisioned airlifting roughly 2,400 special operations troops on more than 100 aircraft into Iran.
The plan involved transporting excavation equipment, including a heavy bulldozer, that would be critical for troops if they needed to remove buried uranium.
One key challenge they would face is that it could be dispersed and then concealed indefinitely.
According to US regulatory estimates, the highly enriched uranium could be stored in roughly 16 cylinders about 36 inches (91 centimeters) tall, comparable in size to large scuba tanks. Each cylinder would weigh about 25 kilograms, light enough to be transported by vehicle or even potentially by hand.

Attacks on Iran a breach of international law, Swiss defence minister says
The United States and Israel have broken international law with their attacks on Iran, saidSwiss Defence Minister Martin Pfisterin an interview published on March 8.
He is the latest European leader to raise concerns about the conflict.
Legal experts have said many countries will consider the attacks unjustified under the United Nations Charter, under which member countries must refrain from using force or the threat of force without UN authorisation or unless acting in self-defence.
Mr Pfister, speaking to the SonntagsZeitung newspaper, said: “The Federal Council is of the opinion that the attack on Iran constitutes a violation of international law.
“In our view, it constitutes a violation on the prohibition of violence.” He also called on all sides to halt the fighting to protect the civilian population. The Federal Council is the Swiss Cabinet.
Mr Pfister said he was referring to all the countries not complying with the prohibition on violence, including the US and Israel.
“The Americans and Israel have attacked Iran from the air. In doing so, they, like Iran, violated international law,” he added.

Just three months after declaring “I’m not quitting,” California RepublicanRep. Darrell Issa announced Friday he is retiring instead of facing a difficult reelection campaign in a redrawn district.
“It’s the right time for a new chapter and new challenges,” Issa said in a statement.
“Serving in Congress has been the honor of my life.”
Issa, a car alarm magnate considered one of the wealthiest members of Congress,had been a chief antagonist for President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton while he served as chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
Issa’s abrupt reversal injects more uncertainty in the race for Southern California’s 48th District, which was drastically reshaped in November after voters approved a new U.S. House map for California to favor Democrats.
With an incumbent out of the running, it may be harder for Republicans to hold the seat and, by extension, the party’s fragile majority in the House.
After redistricting, Issa flirted with the idea of leaving California to run for Congress in Texas. But he decided to stay put in his home state.
“I can hold this seat. I’m not quitting on California and neither should anyone else,” Issa, who represents a district anchored in San Diego County, said in a statement at the time.
California’s new congressional map, which was spearheaded by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, is intended to tip as many as five Republican-held seats to Democrats this year to offset President Donald Trump’s push in Texas to gain five seats for his party there.

Crude oil prices almost touched $110 per barrel on Sunday, after major Middle East producers cut output because the critical Strait of Hormuz remains closed due to the Iran war.

advanced 18.2%, or $16.81, to $109.48. U.S. crude oil surged about 35% last week in its biggest gain in futures trading history dating back to 1983. The last time oil prices topped $100 per barrel was after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
Shortly after oil blasted past $100 at the open of trading Sunday evening, President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that a gain in “short term oil prices” was a “very small price to pay” for destroying Iran’s nuclear threat.
“Only fools would think differently!” Trump added.
Kuwait, the fifth-biggest producer in OPEC, announced precautionary cuts Saturday to its oil production and refinery output due to “Iranian threats against safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.” The state-owned Kuwait Petroleum Corporation did not detail the size of the cuts.
Output in Iraq, the second-biggest OPEC producer, has effectively collapsed. Production from its three main southern oilfields has fallen 70% to 1.3 million barrels per day, three industry officials told Reuters Sunday. Those fields produced 4.3 million bpd before Iran war.
And the United Arab Emirates, the third-biggest producer in OPEC, said Saturday that it is “carefully managing offshore production levels to address storage requirements.” The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) said its onshore operations are continuing normally.
Gulf Arab states are cutting production because they are running out of storage space, as oil barrels pile up with nowhere to go due to the closure of the Strait. Tankers are unwilling transit the narrow waterway because they are worried Iran will attack them. About 20% of the world’s oil consumption is exported through the Strait.

"Last night, a U.S. service member passed away from injuries received during the Iranian regime's initial attacks across the Middle East," U.S. Central Command said in a post on X.
"Major combat operations continue. The identity of the fallen warrior will be withheld until 24 hours after next of kin notification," CENTCOM said.
The seven service members have been killed during the first week of Operation Epic Fury, which the United States and Israel launched on Feb. 28.
Since the beginning of the onslaught, Iran has launched retaliatory strikes at its neighbors, some of which host U.S. bases and assets that are being used in the war.
A March 1 retaliatory strike on an Army sustainment unit based in Kuwait killed six service members and injured 18 others, whose remains returned to the United States on Saturday.
Overall, Iran's retaliatory strikes have killed at least 20 people across the region, The New York Times reported, while between 800 and 1,300 hundred people in Iran have died during the widening conflict.

An Iranian sailor who was killed when the warship Dena was struck by the US near Sri Lanka had called his father shortly beforehand, saying American forces had issued two warnings for the crew to abandon the vessel, a source close to the family told Iran International.
The Iranian navy warship's commander refused to allow the crew to abandon Dena despite the imminent threat, the source added.
The sailor’s father said some crew members argued with the commander, and the 32 crew members who survived were mainly sailors who managed to escape on lifeboats, according to the source.
A US submarine torpedoed Dena in the Indian Ocean on Wednesday, about 19 nautical miles from the southern Sri Lankan port of Galle, killing dozens of sailors and significantly expanding Washington’s campaign against Iran’s naval forces.
The sinking of the Dena — described by US War Secretary Pete Hegseth as a “quiet death” — marked the first time since World War II that the United States had torpedoed an enemy warship, underscoring the widening geographic reach of the conflict with Iran.
An internal US State Department cable dated March 6 seen by Reuters said the US urged Sri Lankan authorities not to return the 32 surviving sailors from Dena and the 208 sailors Sri Lanka rescued from naval auxiliary ship IRIS Booshehr.

The fish, also known as “doomsday fish,” can measure up to 30-feet long.
Oarfish are very rarely observed and live at a depth of around 3000 feet.
“Just as they finished helping the first one, they spotted another oarfish near the shore. Seeing even one is extremely rare. Seeing two in the same place is almost unheard of,” a description read on YouTube.

US President Donald Trump told The Times of Israel on Sunday that adecision on when to end the war with Iran will be a “mutual” one that he’ll make together with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.(contradiction?)
Trump also asserted in the brief telephone interview that the Islamic Republic would have destroyed Israel if he and Netanyahu had not been around. “Iran was going to destroy Israel and everything else around it… We’ve worked together.We’ve destroyed a country that wanted to destroy Israel.”
The US president was asked whether he alone would decide when the war with Iran ends or if Netanyahu would also have a say.
“I think it’s mutual… a little bit. We’ve been talking. I’ll make a decision at the right time, but everything’s going to be taken into account,” he responded, indicating that while Netanyahu will have input, the US president will have the final say.
Asked whether Israel could continue the war against Iran even after the US decides to halt its strikes, Trump declined to entertain the theoretical possibility before adding: “I don’t think it’s going to be necessary.”
Trump has sought to avoid being locked down to a specific timeline for the war, but White House press secretary KarolineLeavitt said Friday that Washington expects it to last four to six weeks.
Trump’s answers to The Times of Israel pointed to the significant degree of influence Netanyahu would appear to have over Trump’s decision-making in the war, which the US and Israel launched jointly on February 28 with a strike that killed Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
Hours earlier, Trump told ABC News that the next leader of Iran won’t “last long” if he doesn’t have approval from the White House.
Trump declined to comment to ToI on Mojtaba’s election, sufficing by declaring:“We’ll see what happens.”
Give Netanyahu that pardon
The US president made headlines in Israel last week by calling President Isaac Herzog a “disgrace” for not heeding his call to pardon Netanyahu, who is standing trial for alleged bribery, fraud and breach of trust.
The next day, though, Trump’s ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, met with Herzog and hailed the latter’s leadership.
Asked if this was part of a “good cop-bad cop” strategy to sway Herzog,Trump avoided answering directly, but again chided the Israeli president.

“Bibi Netanyahu should be given that pardon immediately. I think [Herzog is] doing a terrible thing by not giving it.We want Bibi to be focused on the war, not on a ridiculous pardon,” Trump told ToI, referring to Netanyahu by his nickname.
Herzog’s office said last week that it’s his prerogative to decide for himself whether to grant Netanyahu a pardon. (Why didn’t Israel do this before this new war happened? Something weird they bring this up with the start of war.)
“President Herzog greatly respects and appreciates the tremendous contribution of Donald Trump to Israel’s security,” his office said,while stressing that Israel “is a sovereign state governed by the rule of law,” and as such, the pardon request is currently being dealt with by the Justice Ministry, which will offer its legal opinion, as per the law. No timeline has been announced for when that legal opinion will be issued.
Trump’s relationship with Netanyahu has improved dramatically since the 2024 US presidential election season, after the pair seemed to have had a falling out four years earlier when the Israeli premier congratulated Joe Biden for defeating Trump.
In a 2021 interview with Israeli journalist Barak Ravid, Trump blasted Netanyahu for calling Biden to congratulate him on the 2020 election win and went on to assert that the Israeli premier had never been interested in making peace with the Palestinians.
Asked during the Sunday phone interview whether his feelings about Netanyahu have evolved since his previous tenure, Trump responded:“We’ve done a great job together, like what we’ve done with Iran.”
‘Now we have Iran being destroyed’
The US president then made a new assertion regarding Iran’s intentions, in an apparent attempt to further justify the decision to launch the war against the Islamic Republic eight days earlier.
“Iran was going to destroy Israel and everything else around it… and now look what we have — we have them being destroyed,” Trump said of Iran.
The US president said he wasn’t surprised by how widespread support for the Iran war is in Israel, joking that the only thing more popular there is his own favorables.
He then reiterated his praise for Netanyahu and their partnership against the Islamic Republic: “Bibi’s done a great job. He’s been a wartime prime minister. We’ve worked together. We’ve destroyed a country that wanted to destroy Israel. Would have destroyed Israel if I wasn’t around.
“And [if] Bibi wasn’t around, Israel would not exist today,” he added. (If Bibi wasn’t around more people would appreciate Israel.)
Will Iran war lead to Hamas disarmament?
The Iran war appears to have pushed off discussions the USand fellow Gaza mediating countries Egypt, Qatar and Turkey are slated to hold with Palestinian terror group Hamas on its disarmament.
Given Iran’s longstanding financial support for Hamas, Trump was asked whether Tehran’s weakening in the ongoing war would make it easier to coax the Gaza-based terror group to give up its weapons.
“Many people will disarm because of [the war against Iran],”he responded. “Because right now, Iran is in a position that it’s never known before, and it’s only going to get worse for them.”
Before ending the call, Trump said again: “Tell this president to give him the pardon right now.”

Graham described the cost of the attacks on Iran as the “best money ever spent,” and argued that the war is meant to prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons – which Iran denies that it intends to do, insisting that its nuclear program is peaceful.
“When this regime goes down, we’re going to have a new Middle East, we are going to make a ton of money. Nobody will threaten the Strait of Hormuz again,” Graham said, adding that the US will install a “friendly” government in Tehran.
“Venezuela and Iran have 31% of the world’s oil reserves. We’re going to have a partnership with 31% of the known reserves. This is China’s nightmare. This is a good investment.”

WASHINGTON — The U.S. military said it killed six men Sunday in a strike on an alleged drug-smuggling vessel in the eastern Pacific Ocean as part of the Trump administration's campaign against alleged traffickers.
Sunday's attack brought the death toll to at least 157 people since the Trump administration began targeting those it calls "narcoterrorists" in small vessels in early September.
