Travis Dhanraj blamed years of dysfunction at the state broadcaster on a 'small group of insiders.'

Travis Dhanraj, former Canada Tonight host, emailed CBC employees Monday stating he was “forced to resign from CBC News.” The state broadcaster refused to comment on privacy and confidentiality grounds.

“I was once one of CBC’s most visible journalists… Promoted as a symbol of progress—until I began questioning the gap between CBC’s stated values and its internal reality,” reads a copy of Dhanraj’s email.

Dhanraj states he was “shut out” and “ultimately erased” for his pushback against observed trends.

The CBC confirmed Dhanraj’s departure from the outlet Monday afternoon. The authenticity of the email has been verified.

The former host claims his tendency to ask difficult questions “became a career-ending move” due to the “erosion of editorial independence” at the state broadcaster.

Dhanraj has been on indefinite leave for several months, having entertained diversity of thought on his programme, Canada Tonight. Ian Hanomansing now hosts the primetime program.

Jennifer Dundas, another ex-CBC reporter, condemned the broadcaster last December 18 as “warped beyond repair.”

“We are entitled to expect more from the state broadcaster. The CBC should serve all Canadians, not the adherents of favoured political ideologies,” Dundas said.

Active members of the Canadian Armed Forces are among four people facing terrorism charges in Quebec for allegedly plotting an anti-government militia.

At least three of the four are accused of taking “concrete actions to facilitate terrorist activity,” including a plot “to forcibly take possession of land in the Québec City area,” according to the RCMP.

The alleged target was not specified, but it was not a government facility or a political landmark, the RCMP told National Post. It was described more as land that could be used to build their group or use as a base to start a “new society.”

“They took part in military-style training, as well as shooting, ambush, survival, and navigation exercises. They also conducted a scouting operation. A variety of firearms, some prohibited, as well as high-capacity magazines and tactical equipment were allegedly used in these activities,” the RCMP said in a written release Tuesday morning.

The group was active as far back as 2021, at a time of COVID pandemic travel restrictions and vaccination rollouts. The RCMP investigation began in March 2023, RCMP Staff Sgt. Camille Habel, with the RCMP’s national security team in Quebec, said in an interview.

Marc-Aurèle Chabot, 24, of Québec City, Simon Angers-Audet, 24, of Neuville and Raphaël Lagacé, 25, of Québec City, face a charge of knowingly facilitating a terrorist activity, with a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison.

Matthew Forbes, 33, of Pont-Rouge, faces charges including possession of firearms, prohibited devices and explosives, and possession of controlled items. Forbes faces charges under the Defence Production Act, which regulates military procurement and access to military or national security goods. London, Ont., public health officials have declared an outbreak of legionnaires’ disease in the region, which officials say has left one person dead and more than 40 others infected.

The Middlesex-London health unit says there have been 43 cases of legionnaires’ disease in the city of London this year, one of which led to the death of the individual, according to a July 8 news release.

Most of the cases took place over the last week and nearly all of the affected individuals live or work within a six-kilometre radius of one another in the southeast side of the city, health officials say.

Legionnaires’ disease is a “serious” respiratory illness caused by Legionella bacteria, which can lead to pneumonia and be life-threatening in severe cases, according to the health unit. Following exposure to the bacteria, symptoms usually develop within two to 10 days and can include high fever, chills, dry cough, and shortness of breath.

“Legionella bacteria are naturally found in water sources such as hot tubs, cooling towers, hot water tanks, large plumbing systems or parts of air-conditioning systems,” the health unit said. “If the bacteria are then aerosolized or misted into the air (via wind or fans), people may inhale the bacteria and become unwell.”

While most people exposed to the bacteria do not become ill, some individuals could also experience a more mild illness known as Pontiac fever, which causes flu-like symptoms and generally resolves itself in two to five days. Continue...

The Quebec government has reassigned the president and CEO of the province’s auto insurance board.

Éric Ducharme’s dismissal from the top job was confirmed by a government source who was not authorized to speak publicly.

Ducharme was appointed to the position in April 2023 to restore order at the auto board, which has been in crisis since the disastrous rollout of its new online platform.

He is being dismissed in the middle of a public inquiry announced last spring after Quebec’s auditor general revealed cost overruns of at least $500 million in the creation of the platform.

Quebec’s anticorruption squad conducted a search of the auto board’s head office in June.

Premier François Legault has refused to publicly reiterate his confidence in Ducharme in recent months, but had suggested he would wait for the report from the public inquiry before taking any action.

Journalist Travis Dhanraj publicly resigned from CBC this week, but his lawyer Kathryn Marshall says Canada’s public broadcaster is “refusing“ to accept his resignation.

Dhanraj resigned publicly on July 7, sending a letter of resignation to executives and an email explaining his decision to colleagues.

Dhanraj said his decision to leave CBC was driven by an environment that he described as being “defined by retaliation, exclusion, and psychological harm,” adding that “when I pushed for honest conversations about systemic issues and editorial imbalance I was shut out.”

CBC, however, has said Dhanraj remains one of its employees, Marshall said.

“The CBC wants to maintain control over him, that’s really the true reason they’re not accepting his resignation,” Marshall said in a July 9 interview with Candice Malcolm of Juno News. The Department of Justice and the White House knows that there are millions of Epstein-related documents that are still in existence.

Part of the response so far has been to characterize the remaining documents as all being related to child porn. And the alleged child porn that Epstein had on his personal devices is irrelevant to what the public is seeking: documents and evidence about Epstein, where his wealth came from, who aided his criminal and espionage enterprise, who was being blackmailed, and who covered it up.

As the Gateway Pundit exclusively showed yesterday, though: plenty of public evidence could give the DOJ cause to file a criminal investigation into dead alleged child abusers linked to Epstein, to find the clients, uncover more evidence, and get prosecutions.

Trump supporters and long-time allies are expressing major frustration across the country at the way the Epstein affair, and issues like Iran and Ukraine, has been handled since January.

Worth noting is that it was the then-Bill Barr Department of Justice that had custody of Epstein when he died under extremely suspicious circumstances in the first place, with Barr, whose father had first employed Epstein, declaring that Epstein killed himself.

A twelfth suspect has been charged and is being sought in the ambush on the night of July Fourth at the ICE Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas following the arrests of eleven other alleged Antifa members in the shooting attack that wounded an Alvarado police officer in the neck.

The FBI announced on Wednesday up to a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of former Marine Reservist Benjamin Song, 32, who has been charged with six counts related to the attack. The Department of Justice has issued more than 20 subpoenas to doctors and clinics accused of performing gender-affirming procedures on minors.

The subpoenas span investigations into healthcare fraud, false statements and even definitions of gender medicine as female genital mutilation (FGM).

“Medical professionals and organizations that mutilated children in the service of a warped ideology will be held accountable by this Department of Justice,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi.

This sweeping legal push stems directly from Bondi’s April memorandum.

The memo declares that “gender ideology” has infiltrated American culture and the medical community, causing children to undergo irreversible procedures (puberty blockers, hormone therapy, surgeries) due to “junk science” and political capture by far-left activists.

According to the memo:

* The DOJ will investigate and prosecute any gender-affirming surgery on minors as a potential violation of FGM laws under 18 U.S.C. § 116, which carries up to 10 years in prison per count.

* DOJ will investigate drug companies and doctors for mislabeling or misbranding puberty blockers and hormones.

* The DOJ will coordinate with state Attorneys General to prosecute hospitals and physicians under both federal and state laws banning gender transitions for minors.

After seven years of construction on an export terminal, the first large-scale shipment of Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG) was shipped to Asia on July 1 from Kitimat, B.C., marking a start to a largely untapped sector of the Canadian export market.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration projects that North America’s capacity to export LNG will more than double between 2024 and 2028, leaving room for major growth and prosperity in Canada’s LNG industry going forward.

“The future is really bright if we seize this opportunity with a renewed focus nationally on trade diversification, and an understanding that maybe we don’t want to always be reliant on the U.S.,” Cody Battershill, CEO and founder of Canada Action, a grassroots non-profit that supports Canadian energy, told The Epoch Times.

Canada and the European Union (EU) announced the signing of a Security and Defence Partnership during the G7 Summit in Alberta in mid-June. The deal allows the start of negotiations for Canada to join the EU’s rearmament program.

In a paper published jointly by the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at the Carleton University and the Canadian Global Affairs Institute, former top officials from different areas of the federal government have examined the potential economic gains from the deal, while also analyzing the factors that could hamper its fulfilment.

The authors said the partnership offers “significant strategic and economic promise,” while adding its success is “far from assured.”

“Fiscal realities, political resistance, and structural challenges on both sides will likely slow or limit progress toward the ambitious goals set out in the agreement,” the report says.

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s new principal secretary is David Lametti, the former justice minister has confirmed.

“Time to officially confirm a rumour that has been circulating for a while now: I have now joined the Prime Ministers team and on July 14 will assume the role of Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Mark Carney,” Lametti announced in a July 9 social media post.

While Carney had not yet appointed a principal secretary since he was sworn-in as prime minister in March, some media outlets had reported that Lametti would become Carney’s top adviser this July.

Lametti previously served as minister of justice and attorney general of Canada from 2019 to 2023. He also served as Liberal MP for the LaSalle-Émard-Verdun riding in Montreal from 2015 until he stepped down from politics at the end of January last year following his removal from cabinet by then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the summer 2023 cabinet shuffle.

An investigation into an attack that seriously injured an eight-year-old girl in the town of Quadeville, Ont., took an unexpected and terrifying turn after OPP arrested a 17-year-old male yesterday and charged him with attempted murder and sexual assault with a weapon on a person under 16 years old.

“This has definitely been a tough one for our officers, as it has been for the entire community,” an OPP spokesman told National Post. “Sometime people forget that many police officers are also parents.”

Police had originally suspected an animal attack when the injured child was found by officers from the OPP’s Upper Ottawa Valley detachment along Quadeville Road at around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25. She was transported to hospital and later to a regional trauma centre. She remains under the care of medical professionals.

“During the investigation, the cause of the victim’s injuries was unclear,” police said in a release announcing the arrest. “While early evidence suggested a possible animal attack, investigators did not rule out human involvement. In a letter to FCC Chair Brendan Carr, T-Mobile executive Mark Nelson said the wireless carrier had made some “adjustments” to ensure its policies and practices “maintain close alignment with our values” and are “responsive to the direction you’ve provided.”

“For the last several years, we have described some aspects of our company culture and practices as aligned with ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion’ (DEI),” Nelson wrote.

“Our primary intention always was to create a culture that makes employees feel supported and therefore able to bring their best to the company.”

Nelson said the mobile carrier believes that “skills, aptitude, and a growth mindset are what contribute to exceptional performance—and that merit is how you advance at our company, regardless of who you are or where you’re from.”

The company recognizes, however, that the “legal and policy landscape” surrounding DEI under federal law has changed, and it remains “fully committed to ensuring that T-Mobile does not have any policies or practices that enable invidious discrimination, whether in fulfillment of DEI or any other purpose,” he wrote.

To that end, T-Mobile is ending DEI-related policies “not just in name but in substance,” according to Nelson.

The European Commission published its 2025 Rule of Law Report on Tuesday, before which European Commissioner for Justice Michael McGrath told RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland that they are concerned about the situation in Hungary and are ready to use all means available to force Hungary to fall in line.

What does that mean in practice? Withholding billions in cohesion funds from Hungary, and possibly much more in the future.

“As far as Hungary is concerned, the Commission remains seriously concerned about the rule of law situation,” the EU justice commissioner said before the report was published, as cited by the Mandiner news portal.

McGrath noted that various tools were at Brussels’ disposal to take action, from freezing EU funds to referring the case to the European Court of Justice. The rule of law, he said, “means justice instead of arbitrariness, and trust instead of fear.” He said he refused to allow it to be deemed some form of “abstract value.”

The EC’s report targets the Hungarian judiciary, which they say is compromised by political influence, and Hungary’s case allocation and appointment system, which they deem insufficiently transparent. They considered that progress had been made in terms of corruption, but they found the anti-corruption institutions, including the Integrity Authority, insufficiently effective.

The EU also claims that the allocation of public funds and EU funds is not transparent.

The document makes note of the fact that Transparency International’s 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) ranks Hungary as the “most corrupt country” in the EU.

Confirmed measles cases in the United States have hit the highest number since 1992, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In the United States, so far in 2025, 1,288 cases have been recorded as of July 8, the CDC said in an update on Wednesday.

That’s the highest number in one year since 1992, when 2,126 cases were logged.

Zachary Stieber reports that spokespersons for the CDC and its parent agency, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), said in emails to The Epoch Times that HHS “continues to support community efforts in dealing with the measles outbreaks” while the CDC “continues to provide technical assistance, laboratory support, and vaccines as requested.”

Officials say they’ve sent nearly 12,000 mumps, measles, rubella (MMR) vaccine doses to states since cases began appearing in January.

Measles was marked as eliminated from the United States in 2000. That designation means measles was not spreading within the country and that new cases only cropped up when individuals contracted measles in other countries and returned to the United States.

The United States is likely on the way to losing the elimination status, Dr. Monica Gandhi, professor of medicine at the University of California–San Francisco, wrote on social media platform X.

The previous annual peak of case numbers since the elimination was in 2019, when 1,274 cases were confirmed.

That number was primarily driven by an outbreak that occurred in New York.

Cases this year have been recorded in 38 states. More than half of the cases happened in Texas, where an outbreak broke out and spread among Mennonite communities, according to health officials. The source of the outbreak has not been identified.

Of the Texas patients, 5 percent had received at least one dose of the MMR vaccine. Nationwide, 8 percent of patients have a confirmed vaccination history.

The remaining patients are either unvaccinated or have unknown vaccination status.

Three patients have died in the United States in 2025. None of them had received a vaccine.

Measles has also been spreading in other countries.

The number of CBC employees earning six-figure salaries has more than quadrupled since 2015, with taxpayers now footing a $240 million bill for the broadcaster’s top-paid staff, according to records obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF).

In 2024–25, 1,831 CBC employees collected salaries of $100,000 or more, up 318% from just 438 employees in 2015–16. The average salary among this high-paid cohort is now $131,060.

“Taxpayers don’t need all these extra CBC employees taking six-figure salaries,” said Franco Terrazzano, federal director of the CTF. “The government should save money by taking air out of its highly paid bureaucracy — and that includes Crown corporations like the CBC.”

The rise in CBC’s sunshine list has been relentless: the number of six-figure earners increased 17% in just the past year, and the total cost has ballooned from $59.6 million in 2015 to $240 million in 2024. Continue...

A year-long RCMP investigation into human trafficking across Alberta has resulted in charges against an Edmonton father and son accused of exploiting immigrant workers at businesses in Calmar and Fox Creek. While police confirm that both the four alleged victims and the two suspects were “legally in Canada,” they refuse to say whether any were temporary foreign workers, permanent residents, or held other immigration statuses.

The investigation, launched in July 2024, was triggered by tips to Alberta Employment Standards regarding questionable labour practices at a Calmar gas station and the Grizzly Motor Hotel in Fox Creek. What investigators uncovered was a pattern of alleged exploitation involving unpaid wages, excessive work hours, coercion, and the manipulation of vulnerable immigrants.
