Trump’s DOJ sues states trying to extract billions from ‘Big Oil’ with retroactive fines, lawsuits

The Department of Justice filed lawsuits Thursday against Hawaii and Michigan over planned climate-based litigation against fossil fuel companies. The DOJ also filed separate lawsuits against New York and Vermont over those states’ “climate superfund” laws, that levy fines against fossil fuel companies for producing legal products that consumers willingly and needfully purchase.

Citing President Donald Trump’s “Protecting American Energy from State Overreach” executive order, Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement that these laws and lawsuits “threaten American energy independence and our country’s economic and national security.”

5.3-magnitude earthquake rattles rural southeastern New Mexico, West Texas

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake shook a rural area of West Texas and southeastern New Mexico Saturday night.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that the earthquake occurred at 7:47 p.m. local time, with an epicenter in West Texas, about 35 miles south of Whites City, New Mexico.

Whites City is a small resort town located near Carlsbad Caverns National Park, just north of the Texas border and about 95 miles south of Roswell, New Mexico.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 3.9 miles. Jennifer Armendariz, an emergency manager for Eddy County, New Mexico, which includes Whites City, told CBS News in an email that "although" the earthquake "was felt by many residents," there were "no calls into either dispatch or my office for damage at this time."

Amgen announced a $900 million investment in its Ohio-based manufacturing operation.

The Bel Group announced a $350 million investment to expand its U.S.-based production, including at its South Dakota, Idaho and Wisconsin facilities — which will create 250 new jobs.

DC Court Smacks Down Federal Judge After He Ordered Trump Admin. to Rehire Liberal Voice of America Staffers – Legal Expert Reveals Why Ruling Will Have Widespread Impacts on Other Trump Cases

The liberal DC Circuit Court of Appeals handed President Trump a massive win on Saturday after a district court judge ordered him to rehire staff from far-left Voice of America that will have impacts lasting beyond just this one case, according to a legal expert.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, a federal judge last month ordered the Trump Administration to rehire Voice of America (VOA) and other affiliate news services staff. The affiliate staff included Radio Free Asia and the Middle East Broadcasting Network.

In March, Trump placed employees and contractors for government-funded Voice of America on leave.

US District Judge Royce Lamberth, a Reagan appointee, said Voice of America is funded by Congress and Trump’s cuts to the agency are “a direct affront to the power of the legislative branch.”

He then granted a preliminary injunction.

Thanks to this ridiculous decision, Voice of America staffers were set to return to work next week, and the station was set to resume broadcasting. But then an unexpected setback occurred this afternoon.

The DC Court of Appeals entered a stay of Lamberth’s injunction and suspended the first-instance decision, blocking the order that allowed them to return to work.

Legal Professor Margot Cleveland analyzed the decision and explained in detail why this ruling will have widespread implications.

“The Court of Appeals decision is based on fundamental issue of “jurisdiction,” she explained. “This conclusion should have wide-spread ramifications because many of challenges to Trump Administration are about employment decisions which CONGRESS said are NOT for district courts to decide.”

Cleveland went on to add that Lamberth made another fundamental error, as the Court of Appeals pointed out: that the district court lacked jurisdiction to restore grants because Congress gave that authority to the Court of Claims. The DC Circuit Court also noted that Voice of America was not being shuttered and that “with no bond, the harm to government is irreparable.” Moreover, the Court made clear that the Judiciary Branch, following the law, was not an option.

Cleveland summed up her analysis of the massive decision by noting Trump achieved a big win that will apply to other cases brought against him for three key reasons: First, courts have no jurisdiction over firings; second, they have no jurisdiction over grant terminations; and third, judges can use creative ‘loopholes’ to get around Congress.

“In sum, this opinion is a HUGE win for Trump because it establishes 3 key principles that apply to many of the other cases being brought against Trump Administration: a) no jurisdiction over firings; b) no jurisdiction over grant terminations; c) you can’t get around Congress limiting district court jurisdiction by creative pleading of claims under other theories

Wow: D.C. Circuit Hands Trump Administration a Huge Win That Will Have Far-Reaching Implications

The Trump administration scored a HUGE win on Saturday in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. Not only did the court grant the administration's request for a stay pending appeal in several consolidated/related cases, but it set forth the framework that district courts should be adhering to in analyzing many of the cases currently pending before them regarding the administration's actions.

Since President Donald Trump resumed office in January and began issuing a series of executive orders and actions aimed at dismantling and/or sizably reducing the size of the bureaucratic state, lawsuit after lawsuit has been filed against the administration in an effort to thwart his agenda.

Just attempting to keep up with the litigation has been a daunting task — and I'm not the one filing pleadings and briefs or arguing motions on them; I'm just trying to write on some of the more significant rulings and developments (as are my colleagues).

It's also a bit dispiriting to see multiple rulings issued that seem more focused on allowing the judiciary to cluck its tongue at the Bad Orange Man than on actually adhering to the law. Trying to report on those while offering some encouragement to readers that, when all is said and done, the Trump administration is likely to prevail on a lot of these issues — not all of them, of course, they don't get everything right all of the time (no one does), but more of them than not, in my view — has become a delicate balancing act. Still, I understand the frustration expressed frequently in the comments and on social media, even while it troubles me, because I recognize the critical role the judiciary plays in our tripartite system, and I don't want the American people to lose faith in it. But, boy howdy, some of these judges have made that a challenge of late.

We've somewhat been waiting for the Supreme Court to weigh in a bit more forcefully to steer their wayward lower court brethren back on course. I hadn't really expected the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to take up that mantle, but in this order and opinion, they did.

In sum, the ruling holds that the courts do not have jurisdiction over personnel decisions (those belong in front of the Merit Systems Protection Board), do not have jurisdiction over grant termimations (those belong in front of the Court of Claims), and the failure to require a bond for the injunction will cause irreparable harm to the government.

This Group Wants to “Affirm” Pedophilia

B4U-ACT is part of a growing movement to legitimize sexual attraction to children.

Leading this effort is B4U-ACT, a Maryland-based organization founded in 2003 to support pedophiles, or as they call them, “Minor-Attracted Persons” (MAPs). From May 2 through May 4, 2025, the group will host a conference in Ohio to train mental-health providers in “affirmative MAP therapy,” which seeks to help clients accept their “age of attraction” as an intrinsic and valid part of their identity. This approach abandons clinicians’ traditional risk-management focus when treating pedophiles and raises serious concerns about public safety.

Historically, mental-health professionals have classified pedophilia as a paraphilia, a psychiatric disorder characterized by an abnormal or harmful sexual interest in anyone or anything other than a legally consenting adult. For decades, clinicians treating pedophilia have sought to manage clients’ harmful impulses, prevent abuse, and protect potential victims. Researchers and clinicians working in this tradition aim to understand the condition and develop prevention strategies. They are in a tough position: to get pedophiles to participate, they must create nonjudgmental environments where they feel safe enough to disclose sensitive information, even though the language used can seem, to outsiders, to validate pedophilia. Working with pedophiles can help prevent child abuse, but the public often wrongly accuses these professionals of condoning it. Researchers typically distinguish people with pedophilic inclinations from those who act on them, and believe that such impulses can be effectively managed with cognitive-behavioral therapy, medications that lower sexual drive, and structured support groups.

B4U-ACT, however, advances a different model. The group believes that attempts to alter pedophilic desires are not just ineffective but unethical, and it insists that efforts to reduce patients’ attraction to children through “reconditioning methods” or sex-drive-reducing drugs are harmful—drawing direct comparisons to conversion therapy for homosexuality. The organization discourages clinicians from diagnosing clients with Pedophilic Disorder and instead claims that pedophilia is a “sexual age orientation.”

Founded by social worker Russell Dick and convicted child sex offender Michael Melsheimer, B4U-ACT includes pedophiles in its working group and invokes the activist slogan “nothing about us without us,” arguing that pedophiles should help shape therapeutic models. Though the group states on its website that it does not endorse sexual contact between adults and minors, individuals familiar with B4U-ACT note that its language around consent is worryingly ambiguous, allegedly referring to so-called “willing” children.

It's the end of an era at America's largest hedge fund/private equity/insurance float-cum-rollup conglomerate, whatever you want to call it: Warren Buffett just announced during the Berkshire annual pilgrimage to Omaha that he is stepping down as CEO of Berkshire at the end of the year, and that Greg Abel, the vice chairman for non-insurance operations who has been groomed over the past decade for just this moment, will take over the conglomerate. The news was greeted with a standing ovation by the thousands of Berkshire shareholders who were present at Omaha's Convention Center.

Buffett - whose track record cemented him, along his long-time sidesick Charlie Munger, into a celebrity billionaire renowned for his investing acumen and witticisms - built Berkshire Hathaway into a business valued at more than $1.16 trillion, generating compounded annual returns to shareholders at double the rate of the S&P (19.9% vs 10.4%), since 1965, and a staggering 5,502,482% overall gain on BRK stocks since 1964, vs "only" 39,054% for the S&P. His investing success gave him the power to move stocks and helped him strike lucrative deals with Goldman Sachs and General Electric during times of crisis.

The announcement stunned the board and even Abel, who, while long signaled as Buffett’s successor, was unaware that the news was coming as the annual meeting drew to a close.

“That’s the news hook for the day,” Buffett said. “Thanks for coming.”

Berkshire grew aggressively over the decades with Buffett as chairman and CEO, as he chose acquisitions and stocks for the company portfolio alongside trusted adviser and vice chairman, Charlie Munger, who died in 2023 at 99. As Bloomberg notes, "the conglomerate acquired a bewildering assortment of businesses, which Buffett often said mirrored the US economy as a whole. A bet on Berkshire, he said, was a bet on America."

Buffett started managing money when he was young, a disciple of Benjamin Graham’s investing style. He moved more into the corporate world when his Buffett Partnership Ltd. bought shares of Berkshire. In 1965, he took control of the rest of the business.

Composed mostly of struggling textile operations that would eventually fade away, Berkshire became the foundation for Buffett’s modern-day giant. Piece by piece, he built and acquired operations into a varied set of industries, including insurance — which gave him cash, or “float” — to help his investing strategy.

Now, Berkshire owns businesses ranging from railroad BNSF to auto insurer Geico, sprawling energy operations, and even retailers such as Dairy Queen and See’s Candies. Its collection of companies generated $47.4 billion of annual operating earnings in 2024. Buffett also built up the stock portfolio — populating it with giant bets on the likes of Apple Inc. and American Express — and offering Berkshire another way to participate in the gains of businesses that it didn’t fully own.

The IDF has confirmed that it failed to intercept a projectile that landed in Ben Gurion near Tel Aviv1/2

Israel’s main airport was struck by a ballistic missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Sunday morning. The missile hit a grove near an access road inside the perimeter of Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv. Media reports suggest that at least six people were wounded.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that it failed to intercept the missile despite several attempts.

“An impact was identified in the area of Ben Gurion Airport,” the IDF said in a post on Telegram. The Israeli Air Force is investigating the failure.

The Houthis, who control western Yemen, including the capital and the port of Hodeidah, have launched a number of drones and missiles at commercial vessels passing through the Red Sea and at targets in Israel over the past year, aiming to pressure West Jerusalem over its military operation in Gaza. Israel launched the campaign following a deadly raid by the Palestinian militant group Hamas in October 2023. The Houthis said they would stop the attacks if Israel halts its operation in Gaza.

Israel has not launched strikes against Yemen in response to the Houthi attacks. The US, however, began air and naval strikes against Houthi targets in March, citing threats to Red Sea shipping. Last week, US President Donald Trump ordered the Pentagon to intensify strikes in Yemen and warned that the Houthis would be “completely annihilated” if they continued their attacks. The UK has also taken part in the strikes, with the Defense Ministry saying it targeted a Houthi-controlled facility.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth accused Iran of arming the Houthis and warned there would be consequences. Tehran denied the claims. The US, however, announced sweeping sanctions on countries buying Iranian oil or petrochemicals on Thursday, citing Tehran’s alleged role in fueling conflict in the Middle East, among other things.

Russia has urged Washington to halt its strikes on Yemen. In a phone call in March with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called for an immediate end to the use of force and urged all sides to engage in political dialogue.

Local journalist Nick Kolyohin has told RT that the missile struck near a plane preparing for takeoff as passengers were boarding, wounding several people.

“People didn’t have enough time to run for shelter,” he said, adding that while Israelis are accustomed to air raid sirens, “this time it was too close to them.”

Kolyohin said the strike shocked many, noting that Ben Gurion is Israel’s main international airport and a heavily protected facility. He said it was sheer luck the missile did not directly hit an aircraft, as it could have caused a tragedy with hundreds of casualties.

A former State Department budget analyst has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $650,000 from the agency over a two-year span, according to the US Attorney’s Office in Washington, DC.

Levita Almuete Ferrer, 64, of Maryland, admitted to abusing her signature authority over a State Department checking account between March 2022 and April 2024 in her capacity as a senior budget analyst in the department’s Office of the Chief of Protocol.

She wrote 60 checks to herself and three checks to someone else she had a personal relationship with, prosecutors said.

She printed and signed each check before depositing all 63 checks into her personal bank accounts.

The country’s president, who pledged to attend despite pressure from the EU, was recently hospitalized with a heart condition

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is expected to attend Russia’s Victory Day celebrations, despite a recent health scare, Finance Minister and Deputy PM Sinisa Mali has said.

The May 9 parade on Moscow’s Red Square will mark the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. The Kremlin has invited a number of leaders from countries including Serbia, Slovakia, China, India, and Brazil. EU officials have warned member and candidate states against attending.

On Friday, Vucic abruptly ended a trip to the US after experiencing chest pain during a meeting in Florida, reportedly caused by high blood pressure. He had planned to meet with the Serbian diaspora and US President Donald Trump, but returned to Belgrade and was admitted to the Military Medical Academy, according to local broadcaster RTS. Doctors said the president “cannot be expected to return to his regular activities for several days.”

Speaking on Saturday, Mali said Vucic will likely follow through with the visit. “One thing I can say is, knowing him, considering that he is a man of his word, he gave his word that he would be there, I assume that he will keep his word. But I cannot tell you that at this moment.” Vucic was discharged from the hospital on Saturday.

The Military Medical Academy confirmed that the president underwent cardiovascular and hematological diagnostics and is now in stable condition. Doctors ordered him to rest, and he has canceled all activities and obligations for the next few days.

Among the EU leaders invited to the event were Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his Slovak counterpart, Robert Fico. Hungary declined the invitation, stating that the end of World War II represented “a bitter defeat” due to the country’s alliance with Nazi Germany. Fico has confirmed his attendance.

During a meeting with Vucic last month, EC Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos reportedly cautioned that his attendance would be held against Serbia’s EU bid. Despite the pressure, Vucic said he had not changed his decision to attend the event, where a unit of the Serbian Armed Forces will also take part. Russian President Vladimir Putin praised those who accepted the invitation, calling them courageous for attending despite pressure from Brussels.

Romanian presidential election rerun kicks off

The previous vote was annulled on grounds of alleged “Russian interference,” with the leading candidate barred from running again

Romania is holding a rerun of its presidential election on Sunday after the previous vote was annulled on grounds of alleged Russian interference and electoral violations. Moscow has denied all claims of interference.

The annulled election in late Novembersaw independent right-wing candidate Calin Georgescu, known for his NATO-sceptic stance, unexpectedly prevail in the first round with 23% of the vote. However, the Constitutional Court later invalidated the results, citing electoral “irregularities.” The country’s officials claimed that the candidate’s campaign had utilized undeclared funds, and that Russia was behind “hybrid” attacks, including in the cyber realm.

In March, Georgescu was barred by the Central Electoral Bureau from running again, citing his alleged “anti-democratic” and “extremist” stanceas well as a failure to comply with electoral procedures.

In the current election, a total of 11 candidates are competing for the presidential post. The keycontenders include George Simion, the leader of the far-rightAlliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), who is known for his opposition to the EU, and criticism of military support to Ukraine.He is leading the polls with approximately 30% support.

Other prominent candidates include Crin Antonescu, representing the governing Social-Democrat and National Liberal coalition, and Nicusor Dan, the mayor of Bucharest,both of whom support pro-EU agendas.

If no candidate wins an absolute majority, a run-off between the two leading candidates will be held on May 18.

Ahead of the rerun, meanwhile, Romanian detained RT journalist Chay Bowes, who had traveled to Bucharest from Dublin, Ireland, to cover the election. According to the reporter, he was presented with a paper – of which he was not given a copy – alleging that he was “a threat to the security of the state” and therefore should be deported. Bowes, a EU citizen, has insisted that he entered Romania “completely legally… to do [his] job.”

Commenting on the detention,Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Romanian election had turned into a “meme.” She added that “the situation around the election in Romania is so scandalous. It’s so dead-ended and it discredits the level of that pseudo democracy in Romania.”

The face-to-face conversation last month was “the most substantive,” the Ukrainian leader has said

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has claimed that US President Donald Trump adjusted his view of the Russia-Ukraine conflict following their brief, impromptu meeting at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican last week. According to him, the discussion stood in sharp contrast to the heated argument the two had in the White House in February.

On April 26, Zelensky and Trump met on the sidelines of Pope Francis’ funeral and spoke for 15 minutes without aides or interpreters. “I think the conversation I had with Trump was the best we’ve had so far. It was possibly the shortest, but also the most substantive. With all due respect to our teams, I believe the tête-à-tête format worked well. The discussion had the right atmosphere,” Zelensky told reporters on Saturday.

“I’m sure that after our meeting at the Vatican, President Trump will see things a bit differently… I believe we conducted ourselves constructively and with decency, which is important,” he added.

“I see him as calmer. I think he understands the picture. And I think he wants to make a deal,”Trump said of Zelensky last Sunday. “It was a beautiful meeting, I tell you, it was the nicest office I’ve ever seen. It was a beautiful scene.”

Zelensky’s trip to the US in February was cut short after Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance accused him of being ungrateful for US military aid and acting disrespectfully during their meeting in the Oval Office.Zelensky later said he regretted the incident but refused to issue a formal apology.

Trump has since toned down his criticism of Kiev, as his team continues efforts to broker a truce between Ukraine and Russia.Zelensky, however, has accused Trump’s top negotiator, Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, of “spreading Russian narratives.”

Ukraine has rejected Russia’s proposal for a 72-hour truce starting on May 8, instead pushing for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire. Russia has insisted that for any comprehensive ceasefire to succeed, Ukraine must halt its mobilization drive and stop receiving weapons from abroad. Moscow also demanded that Kiev withdraw troops from territories it claims are under “illegal occupation.”

The Washington Post (but of course, CIA outlet) is reporting on a downsizing effort within the CIA to eliminate approximately 1,200 jobs. The number represents approximately 5% of the workforcealthough the actual number of CIA employees is classified (national security, dontchaknow).

Within the report, Director John Ratcliffe is noted as shifting the focus of America’s leading spy agency to use more “human intelligence.”That phrase, “human intelligence,” is IC silo code speak for shifting away from “analysts” (political operatives) and engaging in more ¹factual intelligence information.

According to the report,DNITulsi Gabbard hasalso reduced the employment levelwithin the Director of National Intelligence office byapproximately 25%(current payroll estimate of 2,000 employees). The general narrative within theWaPoreporting is that “national security” is being compromised by large downsizing of spy agency employment.

Additionally, to bolster the positions of the current political operatives within the CIA, the WaPo waxes concerningly about China and othermysterious foreign adversaries recruiting the CIA employeeswho are now becoming increasingly concerned about their paychecks.

WASHINGTON POST – “The Trump administration is planning significant personnel cuts at the Central Intelligence Agency and other major U.S. spy units, downsizing the government’s most sensitive national security agencies, according to people familiar with the plans.

The administration recently informed lawmakers on Capitol Hill that it intends to reduce theCIA’s workforce by about 1,200 personnel over several yearsand cut thousands more from other parts of the U.S. intelligence community, including at the National Security Agency, a highly secretive service that specializes in cryptology and global electronic espionage, a person familiar with the matter said. The person, like others interviewed, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters.

Do we realize the same IC people at Dan Bongino’s ‘global security conference‘ are the same IC people who stimulated the threat response noted above?

Do we realize the same industry professionals now control the election outcomes in Brazil, France, Romania, Germany and 2020 USA?

Those who benefit from fear, claim it is a scary world out there. However, be careful about hiring some entity to protect you from it; and ask yourself quiet questions about the rules they show up with.

What exactly is this global security network protecting us from? And why do we need to be protected from it?

Ask Jair Bolsonaro. Ask Marine LePen. Ask Donald Trump. Ask Romania. Ask the AfD party in Germany. As we are witnessing in real time, the western global security network is protecting us from all of these ‘threats.’

Some nervous people say, “trust the plan.” I ask the simple question, “why do we need a plan“?
