The top executive for San Jose’s police union imported synthetic opioids over an eight-year period to orchestrate a national drug ring that disguised packages of pills as wedding gifts, makeup and chocolate, federal officials said Wednesday.

Joanne Marian Segovia, the 64-year-old executive director of the San Jose Police Officers’ Association, used her home computer and police union equipment to facilitate the mailing of the synthetic opioids, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The drug smuggling allegedly took place from October 2015 to January 2023, with Segovia facilitating more than 60 shipments from Hong Kong, Hungary, India and Singapore.

In a three-and-a-half-year period ending in January, officials allegedly intercepted five shipments to Segovia that contained thousands of pills, including synthetic opioids Tramadol and Tapentadol. Opioid overdose deaths have reached epidemic levels across the country, particularly in San Francisco. Since 2019, more than 2,000 people in the city have died—often after overdosing on the synthetic opioid fentanyl.

A video game featuring a transgender hero who shoots down trans critics — including priests — in order to allow players to “unleash [their] pent-up fury upon the gender-critical tyrants with an arsenal of deadly weapons” was published by a trans game developer two months before Monday’s Christian school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee.

Titled “Terfenstein 3D,” the game’s name is a play on the pejorative term “TERF” or “Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist.”

According to Dictionary.com, it refers to an “advocate of radical feminism who believes that a trans woman’s gender identity is not legitimate and who is hostile to the inclusion of trans people and gender-diverse people in the feminist movement.”

The game is a spinoff of the classic Wolfenstein, the longest-running first-person shooter series, where an American Army captain protagonist battles off evil Nazis.

However, in the Terfenstein version, Nazis are replaced with enemies such as religious clergy and transgenderism critics who are to be hunted and killed.

A trailer for the game released in advance appears to show the main character gunning down unarmed priests.

The game was released in mid-January this year by trans game developer Sandra Moen and is available on the Steam video game digital distribution service.

According to the developer’s description on the site, the game entails “escaping a gender-fascist concentration camp.”

“Unleash your pent-up fury upon the gender-critical tyrants with an arsenal of deadly weapons and tactics in cathartic bliss,” it reads.

It further states:

The game offers LGBTQAI+, transgender, and feminist themes of gender-critical people and what a post-war apocalyptic world would look like if gender fascists won. In this dystopian world, fascists have killed and imprisoned all transgender and queer people, subjecting them to harsh conversion therapy, imprisonment, and death. You play as an escapee fleeing their detention center, while you exact your revenge.

This game brings to light the very real transphobic violence many transgender people face for just existing. And draw a comparison between gender critics and nazi Germany.

It also claims that the ability to “artistically express yourself is a proven way to heal trauma and possibly also move on.”

Only nine days prior to the attack, Moen appeared delighted that the game was gaining positive momentum.

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Professors at the New College of Florida are using personal email because they’re afraid of being subpoenaed.

Students are concerned, too. Some fear for their physical safety. Many worry their teachers will be fired en masse and their courses and books will be policed. It’s increasingly hard to focus on their studies.

For years, students have come to this public liberal arts college on the western coast of Florida because they were self-described free thinkers. Now they find themselves caught in the crosshairs of America’s culture war.

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has targeted the tiny school on the shores of Sarasota Bay as a staging ground for his war on “woke.” The governor and his allies say New College, a progressive school with a prominent LGBTQ+ community, is indoctrinating students with leftist ideology and should be revamped into a more conservative institution.

Students and faculty say America should take note because the transformation at New College could become a blueprint with national implications as DeSantis gears up for a likely presidential bid.

Seattle is installing fentanyl detectors on city buses after operators have gotten sick from fumes emitted by passengers' drugs.

The city this week began installing detectors on buses and trams in King County, the Seattle Times reported. Over 50 bus operators filed worker compensation claims for drug and chemical exposure in 2022, according to the Times. Many of the drivers became so sick they needed to stop driving and seek emergency medical treatment.

The city is installing the detectors as part of a University of Washington study whose researchers hope to "better understand drugs that are being smoked on the buses and trains." Symptoms of fentanyl exposure include dizziness and breathing difficulties.

While officials from the Washington Poison Center downplayed the risk of secondhand fentanyl exposure, local transit union president Kenneth Price noted to the Times that if the drug is dangerous enough to kill its users, it is likely potent enough to hurt those who are nearby. Typically, people smoke fentanyl by placing a pill on aluminum foil and heating it with a lighter, then sucking the vapor through a straw. It smells like engine oil mixed with peanut butter.

Seattle's detectors will monitor public transit air for heroin, methamphetamine, and oxycodone as well as fentanyl.

Price wants city transit agencies also to post QR codes inside vehicles for passengers to scan and report public drug use directly to authorities. He hopes these codes could alert legislators to the scope of the problem.

Vatican rejects doctrine that fueled centuries of colonialism

VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican on Thursday responded to Indigenous demands and formally repudiated the “Doctrine of Discovery,” the theories backed by 15th-century “papal bulls” that legitimized the colonial-era seizure of Native lands and form the basis of some property laws today.

A Vatican statement said the papal bulls, or decrees, “did not adequately reflect the equal dignity and rights of Indigenous peoples” and have never been considered expressions of the Catholic faith.

The statement, from the Vatican’s development and education offices, marked a historic recognition of the Vatican’s own complicity in colonial-era abuses committed by European powers. It was issued under history’s first Latin American pontiff, who was hospitalized Thursday with a respiratory infection, exactly one year after Francis met at the Vatican with Indigenous leaders from Canada who raised the issue.

On Thursday, these Indigenous leaders welcomed the statement as a first good step, even though it didn’t address the rescinding of the bulls themselves and continued to take distance from acknowledging actual Vatican culpability in abuses. The statement said the papal documents had been “manipulated” for political purposes by competing colonial powers “to justify immoral acts against Indigenous peoples that were carried out, at times, without opposition from ecclesial authorities.”

It said it was right to “recognize these errors,” acknowledge the terrible effects of colonial-era assimilation policies on Indigenous peoples and ask for their forgiveness.

The statement was a response to decades of Indigenous demands for the Vatican to formally rescind the papal bulls that provided the Portuguese and Spanish kingdoms the religious backing to expand their territories in Africa and the Americas for the sake of spreading Christianity.

Those decrees underpin the “Doctrine of Discovery,” a legal concept coined in a 1823 U.S. Supreme Court decision that has come to be understood as meaning that ownership and sovereignty over land passed to Europeans because they “discovered” it.

It was cited as recently as a 2005 Supreme Court decision involving the Oneida Indian Nation written by the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Mills completely destroyed Lloyd Austin. He told the defense secretary that he viewed his conduct during the failed Afghanistan operation as dereliction of duty and that Austin lacked the honor to resign.

He next called out Austin for leaving Americans and their Afghan friends to die. Mills also revealed the massive increase in suicide rates of American soldiers as a result of the botched withdrawal.

Mills then showed Austin that he had drafted the articles of impeachment against him.

A freight train carrying ethanol derailed earlier this morning, prompting the evacuation of residents from a small town near Minneapolis, reported Fox News.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway said 22 cars derailed around 0100 local time near Raymond in Kandiyohi County. Of the derailed cars, some were hauling ethanol and corn syrup liquid that caught on fire.

As a result of the incident, the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office evacuated the nearby town. Here's what they said:

"Fire departments from Raymond and numerous area departments responded as several of the derailed tankers started on fire and were determined to be carrying a form of ethanol and others with a corn syrup liquid.

"An evacuation area of ½ mile was established around the crash site and law enforcement officers and other EMS assisted with that evacuation.

"Residents were instructed to leave their homes and an emergency collection site for those with nowhere to go was established at the Central Minnesota Christian School building in nearby Prinsburg, Minnesota."

Footage of the incident published on social media shows flames shooting from the tankers carrying ethanol – an eerie sight considering the East Palestine train disaster is still fresh in everyone's mind.

This incident occurred just hours after a Canadian National Railway Company train derailed near Pittsburgh on Wednesday and only days following a 70-car train carrying hazardous materials derailed in North Dakota on Sunday.

What has caught our attention is the increasing number of news stories on train derailments throughout the nation. Bloomberg data reveals that reports on derailments have reached an all-time high.

France Buys 65,000 Tons Of LNG From China In First Ever Yuan-Denominated Trade

China has just completed its first trade of liquefied natural gas (LNG) settled in yuan, the Shanghai Petroleum and Natural Gas Exchange said on Tuesday. As OilPrice notes, the Chinese state oil and gas giant CNOOC and TotalEnergies completed the first LNG trade on the exchange with settlement in the Chinese currency, the exchange said in a statement carried by Reuters.

The trade involved around 65,000 tons of LNG imported from the United Arab Emirates (because China will never admit that it is re-exporting Russian LNG even though it now does it all the time) the Shanghai Petroleum and Natural Gas Exchange added.

The French supermajor, one of the world’s top LNG traders, confirmed to Reuters that the trade involved LNG imported from the UAE, but declined to comment further on the deal.

Rupert Murdoch called Trump’s Jan. 6 actions ‘pretty much a crime,’ court doc says

Rupert Murdoch’s disdain for former President Donald Trump’s actions after the 2020 election came out again in evidence presented in the $1.6 billion defamation suit against Fox News.

“Trump insisting on the election being stolen and convincing 25% of Americans was a huge disservice to the country,” Murdoch wrote to Fox News Media Chief Executive Suzanne Scott, according to recently unredacted evidence. “Pretty much a crime. Inevitable it blew up on Jan. 6th.”

Murdoch, the executive chairman of Fox Corp., also acknowledged in his deposition testimony given late last year that he told Scott to stop putting Trump on the network.

That ban has since ended as Trump, who is leading in most polls for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, gave a lengthy interview to Fox News host Sean Hannity that is running in multiple parts this week.

Murdoch’s comments surfaced in a slide deck of points by Dominion Voting Systems that were made public this week in its lawsuit against Fox. The presentation included a number of statements and communications by executives at Fox News and its parent company that were previously redacted.

Dominion, a maker of voting machines, claims Fox News deliberately ran Trump’s false allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 election to placate its viewers, who were fleeing the network in anger over how it called the state of Arizona for then-candidate Joe Biden.

Guests on Fox News made false claims about Dominion’s ownership and said its machines manipulated votes to favor Biden. Fox News has maintained that the allegations were newsworthy and that its reporting is protected by the First Amendment.

“These documents once again demonstrate Dominion’s continued reliance on cherry-picked quotes without context to generate headlines in order to distract from the facts of this case,” a Fox News representative said in a statement.

Evidence and depositions filed in the case — expected to go to trial in mid-April — have revealed deep misgivings among executives, producers and hosts about Trump’s assertions, while expressing concerns that denouncing them completely would turn off its audience.

The evidence revealed in the slide deck also included documentation from the “brain room” — a research unit within Fox News — that alerted executives and producers that there was no evidence of voter fraud. The unit made clear that claims made by Trump’s lawyers about Dominion’s machines flipping votes from Trump to Biden were false.

Trump’s camp said Dominion deleted 2.7 million Trump votes nationwide and switched Trump votes to Biden votes in several key states.

“Election officials from both political parties have stated publicly that the election went well and international observers confirmed there were no irregularities,” according to one memo from the research group.

House Republicans say a new Fox News Digital report revealing that Hunter Biden's former business partner frequented the White House more than a dozen times when President Biden was vice president presents further evidence against the Biden family and the investigation into whether they sold White House access to foreign adversaries.

Fox News Digital reported this week that Hunter's former business partner, John Robinson "Rob" Walker, appeared to have visited the Obama White House at least 16 times during Joe's vice presidency. This is the same Rob Walker whom Republicans say paid out more than $1 million to Hunter, James Biden and Hallie Biden with alleged funds connected to a Chinese Communist Party-tied company.

"It’s no surprise that another Biden family associate frequently visited the Obama-Biden White House," Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, told Fox News Digital. "We already know that another associate visited the White House almost 30 times when Joe Biden was Vice President. This is more evidence showing the Biden family enterprise centered around Joe Biden’s political career. Americans deserve answers about the Biden family’s business schemes, and we will keep pressing for transparency and accountability."

The office of Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, said the committee would be working closely with Comer to investigate any possible Chinese influence in President Biden's political career.

"Chairman McCaul takes the Foreign Affairs Committee’s duty to conduct oversight into Chinese interference with U.S. officials and affairs seriously," McCaul's office said. "He looks forward to collaborating with Chairman Comer and learning more about payments from Chinese state-owned energy company HK Limited to Robinson Walker, LLC. and then to various Biden family members."

A recent report reveals that one of the six victims who were killed by Audrey Hale during her shooting rampage in Nashville was the daughter of a pastor who had been providing counseling to her.

According to Jim Bachmann, a former pastor at Covenant School, current Covenant pastor Chad Scruggs had been Hale’s private counselor, and his 9-year-old daughter, Hallie, was among those killed.

Bachmann told Inside Edition that Hale seemed to be looking for Scruggs in surveillance footage.

The video appears to show rifle-toting Hale searching as she walks through empty hallways.

Bachmann speculated that if Hale had found Scruggs and attempted to harm him, perhaps she would have spared his daughter.

It is unclear why Scruggs was counseling Hale and for how long he had been doing so.

Nashville Metro police are still investigating the motive for the attack and analyzing a manifesto written by Hale. The manifesto has not been made public.

“60 Minutes Australia” posted a teaser for a Sunday segment about parents raising “theybies,” and it’s garnering a big reaction online.

The program’s official Twitter account restricted commenting on the post, which they shared Wednesday, but plenty of outraged people were retweeting the clip and providing their reactions anyway.

The video caption says, “Meet the ‘theybies’. Not baby boys, not baby girls. SUNDAY on #60Mins, the new parenting trend letting young children choose their own gender.” In the accompanying clip, multiple parents can be heard defending their decision to ignore their baby’s sex and raise them with “they/them” pronouns, which the show dubbed “gender creative parenting.”

One parent said in the clip, “We didn’t assign a gender at birth. … We’re not trying to eliminate gender, we’re just really helping kids find their own path to it.”

“I’m letting this little person be who they want to be,” another interviewee from the preview said.

Twitter users reacted strongly to the tweet, which as of Thursday morning had more than 7.1 million views.

“Meet the parents who think their ‘theybies’ are gender-neutral playthings, to abuse & confuse, no doubt leaving them mentally ill for life. Obviously, the replies have been switched off …,” U.K.-based journalist Martin Daubney wrote.

“This is what a cult looks like,” another person observed.

“Munchausen syndrome by proxy is a mental illness and a form of child abuse,” a third commenter noted. “The caretaker of a child, either makes up fake symptoms or causes real symptoms to make it look like the child is sick.”

“This is a form of child abuse,” Lila Rose wrote. “Parents relentlessly denying basic reality to a young, impressionable child, which can lead to extreme lifelong confusion and social trauma.”

Raising gender-neutral babies, dubbed “theybies,” has been a parenting “trend” since 2018, as The Daily Wire previously reported. These parents often can’t maintain the gender-free existence they’re pursuing once the child begins attending school or interacting with people in other social settings.

“Once your child meets the outer world, which may be day care, or preschool, or grandparents — it’s pretty much impossible to maintain a gender-free state,” a professor told NBC of the trend. “And depending on how conventional your community is, you could be setting your child up for bullying or exclusion.”

Evan Gershkovich was detained in the city of Yekaterinburg while allegedly trying to obtain classified information, the Federal Security Service, known by the acronym FSB, said Thursday.

While they readily acknowledge that there is no organized or governmental effort against them, Christian clergy in the Old City tell of a deteriorating atmosphere of harassment, apathy from authorities, and a growing fear that incidents of spitting and vandalism could turn into something far darker.

And with Netanyahu already under scrutiny from Western allies over policies toward the Palestinians and attempts at sweeping judicial reform, deteriorating safety for Christians — or at least Church leaders disseminating that narrative — could become another serious diplomatic problem for Israel’s embattled government.

An extremist Israeli group associated with the Temple Mount Movement called for followers to carry out animal sacrifices at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound next week.

An Israeli settler group has called on supporters to bring live animals to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound next week and slaughter them for sacrifice on the occasion of Passover.

The extremist Temple Mount movement asked followers on Tuesday evening to gather at the entrance to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on the eve of the Jewish Passover holiday, which takes place on 5 April.

Supporters were told to bring animals for sacrificial slaughter inside the Al-Aqsa compound, the third-holiest site in Islam and an area where non-Muslim prayers and rituals are forbidden by long-standing agreement.

Sheikh Omar Al Kiswani, director of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, The New Arab's Arabic-language sister edition, that the announcement was "very dangerous".

He vowed that the mosque authorities would stop settlers from going ahead with the sacrifices.

"This is what we are telling the occupation, and we demand that it rein in its extremist settlers," he said.

Political analyst Rasem Obeidat warned that these sacrifices would lead to an "explosion" in tensions at the gate of the Al-Aqsa compound.

"In the event that they enact their threats with support from their extremist government, matters might explode across all the Palestinian territories, like the Saif Al-Quds ("the Sword of Jerusalem") battle which took place in May 2021 - in fact it could be on an even wider scale which could lead to a regional war," said Obeidat, who was referring to a 10-day conflict between Hamas and Israel in 2021 which was provoked by Israeli police attacks on worshippers at Al-Aqda.

Scores of Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the early hours of Wednesday morning, in what has become a regular occurrence at the holy Islamic site.

They often enter with heavy police protection to provoke Muslim worshippers and perform rituals at the compound, which is under the custodianship of Jordan.

It comes amid an increase in violence in occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank following the establishment of a far-right government in Israel. At least 90 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in 2023 alone.

Fox News host Jesse Watters grilled Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina about his co-sponsorship of the RESTRICT Act Wednesday, asking if the senator read the bill he co-sponsored.

“Did the United States Senate just say we are going to protect you from China by spying on you? Let’s try to get some answers out of Sen. Lindsey Graham who supports this and is here now,” Watters said just prior to Graham appearing on the show. “You have got to be kidding me, Senator. Did you read this?”

The White House announced it would support the Restricting the Emergence of Security Threats that Risk Information and Communications Technology (RESTRICT) Act, which targets technology from Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, China and Venezuela on March 7, NBC News reported. The legislation does not explicitly name TikTok, but senators supporting the legislation have cited the national-security concerns surrounding the Chinese-owned app.

“I don’t think I support the RESTRICT Act,” Graham told Watters.

“You don’t support this?” Watters asked, “Because you were named as one of the supporters, ‘cause this is garbage.”

Graham co-sponsored the RESTRICT Act, S 686, on Monday, according to congress.gov, joining 20 other senators. Many conservatives criticized the legislation over the potential to be used against American citizens.

“Here’s the problem as I see it. China is the parent company of TikTok and my nieces like TikTok,” Graham said. “I don’t mind them using TikTok. I just don’t want the Chinese government to seize all their data and manipulate the information America sees for political purposes. China is helping drug cartels in Mexico. China is not a friend.”

“On Congress.gov you are listed as one of the co-sponsors,” Watters said. “Maybe it’s like Fetterman when your chief of staff does all your work for you.”

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Feb. 15 to undergo inpatient treatment for depression. A top Fetterman aide told the New York Times that Fetterman’s continued campaigning for the Senate seat after a March 2022 stroke may have caused permanent damage, contradicting a letter released by Fetterman’s campaign last year.
